ਤੇਲ ਜਲੇ ਬਾਤੀ ਠਹਰਾਨੀ ਸੂੰਨਾ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥
Ŧel jale bāṯī ṯẖėhrānī sūnnā manḏar ho▫ī. ||1||
But when the oil is burnt, the wick goes out, and the mansion becomes desolate. ||1||

ਰੇ ਬਉਰੇ ਤੁਹਿ ਘਰੀ ਰਾਖੈ ਕੋਈ
Re ba▫ure ṯuhi gẖarī na rākẖai ko▫ī.
O mad-man, no one will keep you, for even a moment.

ਤੂੰ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਸੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
Ŧūʼn rām nām jap so▫ī. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Meditate on the Name of that Lord. ||1||Pause||

ਕਾ ਕੀ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਕਹੁ ਕਾ ਕੋ ਕਵਨ ਪੁਰਖ ਕੀ ਜੋਈ
Kā kī māṯ piṯā kaho kā ko kavan purakẖ kī jo▫ī.
Tell me, whose mother is that, whose father is that, and which man has a wife?

ਘਟ ਫੂਟੇ ਕੋਊ ਬਾਤ ਪੂਛੈ ਕਾਢਹੁ ਕਾਢਹੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੨॥
Gẖat fūte ko▫ū bāṯ na pūcẖẖai kādẖahu kādẖahu ho▫ī. ||2||
When the pitcher of the body breaks, no one cares for you at all. Everyone says, "Take him away, take him away!"||2||

ਦੇਹੁਰੀ ਬੈਠੀ ਮਾਤਾ ਰੋਵੈ ਖਟੀਆ ਲੇ ਗਏ ਭਾਈ
Ḏehurī baiṯẖī māṯā rovai kẖatī▫ā le ga▫e bẖā▫ī.
Sitting on the threshold, his mother cries, and his brothers take away the coffin.

ਲਟ ਛਿਟਕਾਏ ਤਿਰੀਆ ਰੋਵੈ ਹੰਸੁ ਇਕੇਲਾ ਜਾਈ ॥੩॥
Lat cẖẖitkā▫e ṯirī▫ā rovai hans ikelā jā▫ī. ||3||
Taking down her hair, his wife cries out in sorrow, and the swan-soul departs all alone. ||3||

ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਰੇ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਭੈ ਸਾਗਰ ਕੈ ਤਾਈ
Kahaṯ Kabīr sunhu re sanṯahu bẖai sāgar kai ṯā▫ī.
Says Kabeer, listen, O Saints, about the terrifying world-ocean.

ਇਸੁ ਬੰਦੇ ਸਿਰਿ ਜੁਲਮੁ ਹੋਤ ਹੈ ਜਮੁ ਨਹੀ ਹਟੈ ਗੁਸਾਈ ॥੪॥੯॥
Is banḏe sir julam hoṯ hai jam nahī hatai gusā▫ī. ||4||9||
This human suffers torture and the Messenger of Death will not leave him alone, O Lord of the World. ||4||9||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ
Ik▫oaʼnkār saṯgur parsāḏ.
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਆਸਾ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀਉ ਕੇ ਚਉਪਦੇ ਇਕਤੁਕੇ
Āsā sarī Kabīr jī▫o ke cẖa▫upḏe ikṯuke.
Aasaa Of Kabeer Jee, Chau-Padas, Ik-Tukas:

ਸਨਕ ਸਨੰਦ ਅੰਤੁ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਇਆ
Sanak sanand anṯ nahī pā▫i▫ā.
Sanak and Sanand, the sons of Brahma, could not find the Lord's limits.

ਬੇਦ ਪੜੇ ਪੜਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੇ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
Beḏ paṛe paṛ barahme janam gavā▫i▫ā. ||1||
Brahma wasted his life away, continually reading the Vedas. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਬਿਲੋਵਨਾ ਬਿਲੋਵਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ
Har kā bilovanā bilovahu mere bẖā▫ī.
Churn the churn of the Lord, O my Siblings of Destiny.

ਸਹਜਿ ਬਿਲੋਵਹੁ ਜੈਸੇ ਤਤੁ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
Sahj bilovahu jaise ṯaṯ na jā▫ī. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Churn it steadily, so that the essence, the butter, may not be lost. ||1||Pause||

ਤਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਮਟੁਕੀ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਬਿਲੋਈ
Ŧan kar matukī man māhi bilo▫ī.
Make your body the churning jar, and use the stick of your mind to churn it.

ਇਸੁ ਮਟੁਕੀ ਮਹਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੰਜੋਈ ॥੨॥
Is matukī mėh sabaḏ sanjo▫ī. ||2||
Gather the curds of the Word of the Shabad. ||2||

ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਬਿਲੋਵਨਾ ਮਨ ਕਾ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ
Har kā bilovanā man kā bīcẖārā.
The churning of the Lord is to reflect upon Him within your mind.

ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਧਾਰਾ ॥੩॥
Gur parsāḏ pāvai amriṯ ḏẖārā. ||3||
By Guru's Grace, the Ambrosial Nectar flows into us. ||3||

ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਜੇ ਮੀਰਾ
Kaho Kabīr naḏar kare je mīʼnrā.
Says Kabeer, if the Lord, our King casts His Glance of Grace,

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਲਗਿ ਉਤਰੇ ਤੀਰਾ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੦॥
Rām nām lag uṯre ṯīrā. ||4||1||10||
one is carried across to the other side, holding fast to the Lord's Name. ||4||1||10||

ਆਸਾ
Āsā.
Aasaa:

ਬਾਤੀ ਸੂਕੀ ਤੇਲੁ ਨਿਖੂਟਾ
Bāṯī sūkī ṯel nikẖūtā.
The wick has dried up, and the oil is exhausted.

ਮੰਦਲੁ ਬਾਜੈ ਨਟੁ ਪੈ ਸੂਤਾ ॥੧॥
Manḏal na bājai nat pai sūṯā. ||1||
The drum does not sound, and the actor has gone to sleep. ||1||

ਬੁਝਿ ਗਈ ਅਗਨਿ ਨਿਕਸਿਓ ਧੂੰਆ
Bujẖ ga▫ī agan na niksi▫o ḏẖūʼn▫ā.
The fire has gone out, and no smoke is produced.

ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਏਕੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਦੂਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
Rav rahi▫ā ek avar nahī ḏū▫ā. ||1|| rahā▫o.
The One Lord is pervading and permeating everywhere; there is no other second. ||1||Pause||

ਟੂਟੀ ਤੰਤੁ ਬਜੈ ਰਬਾਬੁ
Tūtī ṯanṯ na bajai rabāb.
The string has broken, and the guitar makes no sound.

ਭੂਲਿ ਬਿਗਾਰਿਓ ਅਪਨਾ ਕਾਜੁ ॥੨॥
Bẖūl bigāri▫o apnā kāj. ||2||
He mistakenly ruins his own affairs. ||2||

ਕਥਨੀ ਬਦਨੀ ਕਹਨੁ ਕਹਾਵਨੁ
Kathnī baḏnī kahan kahāvan.
All preaching, ranting and raving, and arguing,

ਸਮਝਿ ਪਰੀ ਤਉ ਬਿਸਰਿਓ ਗਾਵਨੁ ॥੩॥
Samajẖ parī ṯa▫o bisri▫o gāvan. ||3||
is forgotton when one comes to understand. ||3||

ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਪੰਚ ਜੋ ਚੂਰੇ
Kahaṯ Kabīr pancẖ jo cẖūre.
Says Kabeer, who conquer the five demons of the body passions,

ਤਿਨ ਤੇ ਨਾਹਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਦੂਰੇ ॥੪॥੨॥੧੧॥
Ŧin ṯe nāhi param paḏ ḏūre. ||4||2||11||
for them the state of supreme dignity is never far. ||4||2||11||

ਆਸਾ
Āsā.
Aasaa:

ਸੁਤੁ ਅਪਰਾਧ ਕਰਤ ਹੈ ਜੇਤੇ
Suṯ aprāḏẖ karaṯ hai jeṯe.
As many mistakes as the son commits,

ਜਨਨੀ ਚੀਤਿ ਰਾਖਸਿ ਤੇਤੇ ॥੧॥
Jannī cẖīṯ na rākẖas ṯeṯe. ||1||
his mother does not hold them against him in her mind. ||1||

ਰਾਮਈਆ ਹਉ ਬਾਰਿਕੁ ਤੇਰਾ
Rām▫ī▫ā ha▫o bārik ṯerā.
O Lord, I am Your child.

ਕਾਹੇ ਖੰਡਸਿ ਅਵਗਨੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
Kāhe na kẖandas avgan merā. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Why not destroy my sins? ||1||Pause||

ਜੇ ਅਤਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਪ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਿ ਧਾਇਆ
Je aṯ karop kare kar ḏẖā▫i▫ā.
If the son, in anger, runs away,

ਤਾ ਭੀ ਚੀਤਿ ਰਾਖਸਿ ਮਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
Ŧā bẖī cẖīṯ na rākẖas mā▫i▫ā. ||2||
even then, his mother does not hold it against him in her mind. ||2||

ਚਿੰਤ ਭਵਨਿ ਮਨੁ ਪਰਿਓ ਹਮਾਰਾ
Cẖinṯ bẖavan man pari▫o hamārā.
My mind has fallen into the whirlpool of anxiety.

ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੈਸੇ ਉਤਰਸਿ ਪਾਰਾ ॥੩॥
Nām binā kaise uṯras pārā. ||3||
Without the Naam, how can I cross over to the other side? ||3||

ਦੇਹਿ ਬਿਮਲ ਮਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਸਰੀਰਾ
Ḏėh bimal maṯ saḏā sarīrā.
Please, bless my body with pure and lasting understanding, Lord;

ਸਹਜਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਗੁਨ ਰਵੈ ਕਬੀਰਾ ॥੪॥੩॥੧੨॥
Sahj sahj gun ravai kabīrā. ||4||3||12||
in peace and poise, Kabeer chants the Praises of the Lord. ||4||3||12||

ਆਸਾ

Aasaa:

ਹਜ ਹਮਾਰੀ ਗੋਮਤੀ ਤੀਰ
Haj hamārī gomṯī ṯīr.
My pilgrimage to Mecca is on the banks of the Gomati River;

ਜਹਾ ਬਸਹਿ ਪੀਤੰਬਰ ਪੀਰ ॥੧॥
Jahā basėh pīṯambar pīr. ||1||
the spiritual teacher in his yellow robes dwells there. ||1||

ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਕਿਆ ਖੂਬੁ ਗਾਵਤਾ ਹੈ
vāhu vāhu ki▫ā kẖūb gāvṯā hai.
Waaho! Waaho! Hail! Hail! How wondrously he sings.

ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵਤਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
Har kā nām merai man bẖāvṯā hai. ||1|| rahā▫o.
The Name of the Lord is pleasing to my mind. ||1||Pause||
