ਹੁਕਮੀ ਪੈਧਾ ਜਾਇ ਦਰਗਹ ਭਾਣੀਐ ॥
हुकमी पैधा जाइ दरगह भाणीऐ ॥
Hukmī paiḏẖā jā▫e ḏargėh bẖāṇī▫ai.
If it pleases the Commander, one goes to His Court, robed in honor.

ਹੁਕਮੇ ਹੀ ਸਿਰਿ ਮਾਰ ਬੰਦਿ ਰਬਾਣੀਐ ॥੫॥
हुकमे ही सिरि मार बंदि रबाणीऐ ॥५॥
Hukme hī sir mār banḏ rabāṇī▫ai. ||5||
By His Command, God's slaves are hit over the head. ||5||
|
ਲਾਹਾ ਸਚੁ ਨਿਆਉ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਾਈਐ ॥
लाहा सचु निआउ मनि वसाईऐ ॥
Lāhā sacẖ ni▫ā▫o man vasā▫ī▫ai.
The profit is earned by enshrining Truth and justice in the mind.

ਲਿਖਿਆ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ਗਰਬੁ ਵਞਾਈਐ ॥੬॥
लिखिआ पलै पाइ गरबु वञाईऐ ॥६॥
Likẖi▫ā palai pā▫e garab vañā▫ī▫ai. ||6||
They obtain what is written in their destiny, and overcome pride. ||6||
|
ਮਨਮੁਖੀਆ ਸਿਰਿ ਮਾਰ ਵਾਦਿ ਖਪਾਈਐ ॥
मनमुखीआ सिरि मार वादि खपाईऐ ॥
Manmukẖī▫ā sir mār vāḏ kẖapā▫ī▫ai.
The self-willed manmukhs are hit over the head, and consumed by conflict.

ਠਗਿ ਮੁਠੀ ਕੂੜਿਆਰ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਚਲਾਈਐ ॥੭॥
ठगि मुठी कूड़िआर बंन्हि चलाईऐ ॥७॥
Ŧẖag muṯẖī kūṛi▫ār banėh cẖalā▫ī▫ai. ||7||
The cheaters are plundered by falsehood; they are chained and led away. ||7||
|
ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਵਸਾਇ ਨ ਪਛੋਤਾਵਹੀ ॥
साहिबु रिदै वसाइ न पछोतावही ॥
Sāhib riḏai vasā▫e na pacẖẖoṯāvhī.
Enshrine the Lord Master in your mind, and you shall not have to repent.

ਗੁਨਹਾਂ ਬਖਸਣਹਾਰੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਮਾਵਹੀ ॥੮॥
गुनहां बखसणहारु सबदु कमावही ॥८॥
Gunhāʼn bakẖsaṇhār sabaḏ kamāvahī. ||8||
He forgives our sins, when we practice the Teachings of the Guru's Word. ||8||
|
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮੰਗੈ ਸਚੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਘਾਲੀਐ ॥
नानकु मंगै सचु गुरमुखि घालीऐ ॥
Nānak mangai sacẖ gurmukẖ gẖālī▫ai.
Nanak begs for the True Name, which is obtained by the Gurmukh.

ਮੈ ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲੀਐ ॥੯॥੧੬॥
मै तुझ बिनु अवरु न कोइ नदरि निहालीऐ ॥९॥१६॥
Mai ṯujẖ bin avar na ko▫e naḏar nihālī▫ai. ||9||16||
Without You, I have no other at all; please, bless me with Your Glance of Grace. ||9||16||

ਕਿਆ ਜੰਗਲੁ ਢੂਢੀ ਜਾਇ ਮੈ ਘਰਿ ਬਨੁ ਹਰੀਆਵਲਾ ॥
किआ जंगलु ढूढी जाइ मै घरि बनु हरीआवला ॥
Ki▫ā jangal dẖūdẖī jā▫e mai gẖar ban harī▫āvlā.
Why should I go searching in the forests, when the woods of my home are so green?

ਸਚਿ ਟਿਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਆਇ ਸਬਦਿ ਉਤਾਵਲਾ ॥੧॥
सचि टिकै घरि आइ सबदि उतावला ॥१॥
Sacẖ tikai gẖar ā▫e sabaḏ uṯāvalā. ||1||
The True Word of the Shabad has instantaneously come and settled in my heart. ||1||
|
ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਸੋਇ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੀਐ ॥
जह देखा तह सोइ अवरु न जाणीऐ ॥
Jah ḏekẖā ṯah so▫e avar na jāṇī▫ai.
Wherever I look, there He is; I know no other.
|
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਇ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਛਾਣੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
गुर की कार कमाइ महलु पछाणीऐ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Gur kī kār kamā▫e mahal pacẖẖāṇī▫ai. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Working for the Guru, one realizes the Mansion of the Lord's Presence. ||1||Pause||
|
ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ਸਚੁ ਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵਈ ॥
आपि मिलावै सचु ता मनि भावई ॥
Āp milāvai sacẖ ṯā man bẖāv▫ī.
The True Lord blends us with Himself, when it is pleasing to His Mind.
|
ਚਲੈ ਸਦਾ ਰਜਾਇ ਅੰਕਿ ਸਮਾਵਈ ॥੨॥
चलै सदा रजाइ अंकि समावई ॥२॥
Cẖalai saḏā rajā▫e ank samāva▫ī. ||2||
One who ever walks in accordance with His Will, merges into His Being. ||2||
|
ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਸੋਈ ॥
सचा साहिबु मनि वसै वसिआ मनि सोई ॥
Sacẖā sāhib man vasai vasi▫ā man so▫ī.
When the True Lord dwells in the mind, that mind flourishes.
|
ਆਪੇ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈਆ ਦੇ ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੩॥
आपे दे वडिआईआ दे तोटि न होई ॥३॥
Āpe ḏe vaḏi▫ā▫ī▫ā ḏe ṯot na ho▫ī. ||3||
He Himself grants greatness; His Gifts are never exhausted. ||3||
|
ਅਬੇ ਤਬੇ ਕੀ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਕਿਉ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
अबे तबे की चाकरी किउ दरगह पावै ॥
Abe ṯabe kī cẖākrī ki▫o ḏargėh pāvai.
Serving this and that person, how can one obtain the Lord's Court?
|
ਪਥਰ ਕੀ ਬੇੜੀ ਜੇ ਚੜੈ ਭਰ ਨਾਲਿ ਬੁਡਾਵੈ ॥੪॥
पथर की बेड़ी जे चड़ै भर नालि बुडावै ॥४॥
Pathar kī beṛī je cẖaṛai bẖar nāl budāvai. ||4||
If someone embarks on a boat of stone, he shall drown with its cargo. ||4||
|
ਆਪਨੜਾ ਮਨੁ ਵੇਚੀਐ ਸਿਰੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਨਾਲੇ ॥
आपनड़ा मनु वेचीऐ सिरु दीजै नाले ॥
Āpnaṛā man vecẖī▫ai sir ḏījai nāle.
So offer your mind, and surrender your head with it.
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਪਛਾਣੀਐ ਅਪਨਾ ਘਰੁ ਭਾਲੇ ॥੫॥
गुरमुखि वसतु पछाणीऐ अपना घरु भाले ॥५॥
Gurmukẖ vasaṯ pacẖẖāṇī▫ai apnā gẖar bẖāle. ||5||
The Gurmukh realizes the true essence, and finds the home of his own self. ||5||
|
ਜੰਮਣ ਮਰਣਾ ਆਖੀਐ ਤਿਨਿ ਕਰਤੈ ਕੀਆ ॥
जमण मरणा आखीऐ तिनि करतै कीआ ॥
Jamaṇ marṇā ākẖī▫ai ṯin karṯai kī▫ā.
People discuss birth and death; the Creator created this.
|
ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਮਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਮਰਣੁ ਨ ਥੀਆ ॥੬॥
आपु गवाइआ मरि रहे फिरि मरणु न थीआ ॥६॥
Āp gavā▫i▫ā mar rahe fir maraṇ na thī▫ā. ||6||
Those who conquer their selfhood and remain dead, shall never have to die again. ||6||
|
ਸਾਈ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵਣੀ ਧੁਰ ਕੀ ਫੁਰਮਾਈ ॥
साई कार कमावणी धुर की फुरमाई ॥
Sā▫ī kār kamāvṇī ḏẖur kī furmā▫ī.
Do those deeds which the Primal Lord has ordered for you.
|
ਜੇ ਮਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਕਿਨਿ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੭॥
जे मनु सतिगुर दे मिलै किनि कीमति पाई ॥७॥
Je man saṯgur ḏe milai kin kīmaṯ pā▫ī. ||7||
If one surrenders his mind upon meeting the True Guru, who can estimate its value? ||7||
|
ਰਤਨਾ ਪਾਰਖੁ ਸੋ ਧਣੀ ਤਿਨਿ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
रतना पारखु सो धणी तिनि कीमति पाई ॥
Raṯnā pārakẖ so ḏẖaṇī ṯin kīmaṯ pā▫ī.
That Lord Master is the Assayer of the jewel of the mind; He places the value on it.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਚੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੮॥੧੭॥
नानक साहिबु मनि वसै सची वडिआई ॥८॥१७॥
Nānak sāhib man vasai sacẖī vadi▫ā▫ī. ||8||17||
O Nanak, True is the Glory of that one, in whose mind the Lord Master dwells. ||8||17||

Aasaa, First Mehl:

ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਈ ॥
जिन्ही नामु विसारिआ दूजै भरमि भुलाई ॥
Jinĥī nām visāri▫ā ḏūjai bẖaram bẖulā▫ī.
Those who have forgotten the Naam, the Name of the Lord, are deluded by doubt and duality.
|
ਮੂਲੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਡਾਲੀ ਲਗੇ ਕਿਆ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਛਾਈ ॥੧॥
मूलु छोडि डाली लगे किआ पावहि छाई ॥१॥
Mūl cẖẖod dālī lage ki▫ā pāvahi cẖẖā▫ī. ||1||
Those who abandon the roots and cling to the branches, shall obtain only ashes. ||1||
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕਿਉ ਛੂਟੀਐ ਜੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਕੋਈ ॥
बिनु नावै किउ छूटीऐ जे जाणै कोई ॥
Bin nāvai ki▫o cẖẖūtī▫ai je jāṇai ko▫ī.
Without the Name, how can one be emancipated? Who knows this?
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਇ ਤ ਛੂਟੀਐ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
गुरमुखि होइ त छूटीऐ मनमुखि पति खोई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Gurmukẖ ho▫e ṯa cẖẖūtī▫ai manmukẖ paṯ kẖo▫ī. ||1|| rahā▫o.
One who becomes Gurmukh is emancipated; the self-willed manmukhs lose their honor. ||1||Pause||
|
ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਏਕੋ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਪੂਰੀ ਮਤਿ ਭਾਈ ॥
जिन्ही एको सेविआ पूरी मति भाई ॥
Jinĥī eko sevi▫ā pūrī maṯ bẖā▫ī.
Those who serve the One Lord become perfect in their understanding, O Siblings of Destiny.
|
ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨਾ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੨॥
आदि जुगादि निरंजना जन हरि सरणाई ॥२॥
Āḏ jugāḏ niranjanā jan har sarṇā▫ī. ||2||
The Lord's humble servant finds Sanctuary in Him, the Immaculate One, from the very beginning, and throughout the ages. ||2||
|
ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਭਾਈ ॥
साहिबु मेरा एकु है अवरु नही भाई ॥
Sāhib merā ek hai avar nahī bẖā▫ī.
My Lord and Master is the One; there is no other, O Siblings of Destiny.
|
ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਾਚੇ ਪਰਥਾਈ ॥੩॥
किरपा ते सुखु पाइआ साचे परथाई ॥३॥
Kirpā ṯe sukẖ pā▫i▫ā sācẖe parthā▫ī. ||3||
By the Grace of the True Lord, celestial peace is obtained. ||3||
|
ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਕੇਤੀ ਕਹੈ ਕਹਾਏ ॥
गुर बिनु किनै न पाइओ केती कहै कहाए ॥
Gur bin kinai na pā▫i▫o keṯī kahai kahā▫e.
Without the Guru, no one has obtained Him, although many may claim to have done so.
|
ਆਪਿ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ਵਾਟੜੀਂ ਸਚੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ॥੪॥
आपि दिखावै वाटड़ीं सची भगति द्रिड़ाए ॥४॥
Āp ḏikẖāvai vātṛīʼn sacẖī bẖagaṯ driṛ▫ā▫e. ||4||
He Himself reveals the Way, and implants true devotion within. ||4||
|
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਜੇ ਸਮਝਾਈਐ ਭੀ ਉਝੜਿ ਜਾਏ ॥
मनमुखु जे समझाईऐ भी उझड़ि जाए ॥
Manmukẖ je samjā▫ī▫ai bẖī ujẖaṛ jā▫e.
Even if the self-willed manmukh is instructed, he stills goes into the wilderness.
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਨ ਛੂਟਸੀ ਮਰਿ ਨਰਕ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੫॥
बिनु हरि नाम न छूटसी मरि नरक समाए ॥५॥
Bin har nām na cẖẖūtsī mar narak samā▫e. ||5||
Without the Lord's Name, he shall not be emancipated; he shall die, and sink into hell. ||5||
|
ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰੈ ਭਰਮਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਲੇਵੈ ॥
जनमि मरै भरमाईऐ हरि नामु न लेवै ॥
Janam marai bẖarmā▫ī▫ai har nām na levai.
He wanders through birth and death, and never chants the Lord's Name.
|
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਾ ਪਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵੈ ॥੬॥
ता की कीमति ना पवै बिनु गुर की सेवै ॥६॥
Ŧā kī kīmaṯ nā pavai bin gur kī sevai. ||6||
He never realizes his own value, without serving the Guru. ||6||
