ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ਜਿਨ ਸਿਰਿ ਸੋਹਨਿ ਪਟੀਆ ਮਾਂਗੀ ਪਾਇ ਸੰਧੂਰੁ ॥
Jin sir sohan patī▫ā māʼngī pā▫e sanḏẖūr.
Those heads adorned with braided hair, with their parts painted with vermillion -

ਸੇ ਸਿਰ ਕਾਤੀ ਮੁੰਨੀਅਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਗਲ ਵਿਚਿ ਆਵੈ ਧੂੜਿ ॥
Se sir kāṯī munnī▫aniĥ gal vicẖ āvai ḏẖūṛ.
those heads were shaved with scissors, and their throats were choked with dust.

ਮਹਲਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਹੋਦੀਆ ਹੁਣਿ ਬਹਣਿ ਨ ਮਿਲਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥੧॥
Mėhlā anḏar hoḏī▫ā huṇ bahaṇ na milniĥ haḏūr. ||1||
They lived in palatial mansions, but now, they cannot even sit near the palaces. ||1||
|
ਆਦੇਸੁ ਬਾਬਾ ਆਦੇਸੁ ॥
Āḏes bābā āḏes.
Hail to You, O Father Lord, Hail to You!
|
ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖਹਿ ਵੇਸ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Āḏ purakẖ ṯerā anṯ na pā▫i▫ā kar kar ḏekẖėh ves. ||1|| rahā▫o.
O Primal Lord. Your limits are not known; You create, and create, and behold the scenes. ||1||Pause||
|
ਜਦਹੁ ਸੀਆ ਵੀਆਹੀਆ ਲਾੜੇ ਸੋਹਨਿ ਪਾਸਿ ॥
Jaḏahu sī▫ā vī▫āhī▫ā lāṛe sohan pās.
When they were married, their husbands looked so handsome beside them.
|
ਹੀਡੋਲੀ ਚੜਿ ਆਈਆ ਦੰਦ ਖੰਡ ਕੀਤੇ ਰਾਸਿ ॥
Hīdolī cẖaṛ ā▫ī▫ā ḏanḏ kẖand kīṯe rās.
They came in palanquins, decorated with ivory;
|
ਉਪਰਹੁ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਾਰੀਐ ਝਲੇ ਝਿਮਕਨਿ ਪਾਸਿ ॥੨॥
Uprahu pāṇī vārī▫ai jẖale jẖimkan pās. ||2||
water was sprinkled over their heads, and glittering fans were waved above them. ||2||
|
ਇਕੁ ਲਖੁ ਲਹਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਬਹਿਠੀਆ ਲਖੁ ਲਹਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਖੜੀਆ ॥
Ik lakẖ lėhniĥ bėhṯẖī▫ā lakẖ lėhniĥ kẖaṛī▫ā.
They were given hundreds of thousands of coins when they sat, and hundreds of thousands of coins when they stood.

ਗਰੀ ਛੁਹਾਰੇ ਖਾਂਦੀਆ ਮਾਣਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਸੇਜੜੀਆ ॥
Garī cẖẖuhāre kẖāʼnḏī▫ā māṇniĥ sejṛī▫ā.
They ate coconuts and dates, and rested comfortably upon their beds.

ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਗਲਿ ਸਿਲਕਾ ਪਾਈਆ ਤੁਟਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਮੋਤਸਰੀਆ ॥੩॥
Ŧinĥ gal silkā pā▫ī▫ā ṯutniĥ moṯsarī▫ā. ||3||
But ropes were put around their necks, and their strings of pearls were broken. ||3||
|
ਧਨੁ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਵੈਰੀ ਹੋਏ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਰਖੇ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਇ ॥
Ḏẖan joban ḏu▫e vairī ho▫e jinĥī rakẖe rang lā▫e.
Their wealth and youthful beauty, which gave them so much pleasure, have now become their enemies.
|
ਦੂਤਾ ਨੋ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਆ ਲੈ ਚਲੇ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
Ḏūṯā no furmā▫i▫ā lai cẖale paṯ gavā▫e.
The order was given to the soldiers, who dishonored them, and carried them away.
|
ਜੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਜੇ ਭਾਵੈ ਦੇਇ ਸਜਾਇ ॥੪॥
Je ṯis bẖāvai ḏe vadi▫ā▫ī je bẖāvai ḏe▫e sajā▫e. ||4||
If it is pleasing to God's Will, He bestows greatness; if is pleases His Will, He bestows punishment. ||4||
|
ਅਗੋ ਦੇ ਜੇ ਚੇਤੀਐ ਤਾਂ ਕਾਇਤੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥
Ago ḏe je cẖeṯī▫ai ṯāʼn kā▫iṯ milai sajā▫e.
If someone focuses on the Lord beforehand, then why should he be punished?
|
ਸਾਹਾਂ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਗਵਾਈਆ ਰੰਗਿ ਤਮਾਸੈ ਚਾਇ ॥
Sāhāʼn suraṯ gavā▫ī▫ā rang ṯamāsai cẖā▫e.
The kings had lost their higher consciousness, reveling in pleasure and sensuality.

ਬਾਬਰਵਾਣੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਗਈ ਕੁਇਰੁ ਨ ਰੋਟੀ ਖਾਇ ॥੫॥
Bābarvāṇī fir ga▫ī ku▫ir na rotī kẖā▫e. ||5||
Since Baabar's rule has been proclaimed, even the princes have no food to eat. ||5||
|
ਇਕਨਾ ਵਖਤ ਖੁਆਈਅਹਿ ਇਕਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਪੂਜਾ ਜਾਇ ॥
Iknā vakẖaṯ kẖu▫ā▫ī▫ah iknĥā pūjā jā▫e.
The Muslims have lost their five times of daily prayer, and the Hindus have lost their worship as well.

ਚਉਕੇ ਵਿਣੁ ਹਿੰਦਵਾਣੀਆ ਕਿਉ ਟਿਕੇ ਕਢਹਿ ਨਾਇ ॥
Cẖa▫uke viṇ hinḏvāṇī▫ā ki▫o tike kadẖėh nā▫e.
Without their sacred squares, how shall the Hindu women bathe and apply the frontal marks to their foreheads?

ਰਾਮੁ ਨ ਕਬਹੂ ਚੇਤਿਓ ਹੁਣਿ ਕਹਣਿ ਨ ਮਿਲੈ ਖੁਦਾਇ ॥੬॥
Rām na kabhū cẖeṯi▫o huṇ kahaṇ na milai kẖuḏā▫e. ||6||
They never remembered their Lord as Raam, and now they cannot even chant Khudaa-i||6||
|
ਇਕਿ ਘਰਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਆਪਣੈ ਇਕਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਪੁਛਹਿ ਸੁਖ ॥
Ik gẖar āvahi āpṇai ik mil mil pucẖẖėh sukẖ.
Some have returned to their homes, and meeting their relatives, they ask about their safety.

ਇਕਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਏਹੋ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਬਹਿ ਬਹਿ ਰੋਵਹਿ ਦੁਖ ॥
Iknĥā eho likẖi▫ā bahi bahi rovėh ḏukẖ.
For some, it is pre-ordained that they shall sit and cry out in pain.

ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਥੀਐ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਿਆ ਮਾਨੁਖ ॥੭॥੧੧॥
Jo ṯis bẖāvai so thī▫ai Nānak ki▫ā mānukẖ. ||7||11||
Whatever pleases Him, comes to pass. O Nanak, what is the fate of mankind? ||7||11||

ਕਹਾ ਸੁ ਖੇਲ ਤਬੇਲਾ ਘੋੜੇ ਕਹਾ ਭੇਰੀ ਸਹਨਾਈ ॥
Kahā so kẖel ṯabelā gẖoṛe kahā bẖerī sėhnā▫ī.
Where are the games, the stables, the horses? Where are the drums and the bugles?
|
ਕਹਾ ਸੁ ਤੇਗਬੰਦ ਗਾਡੇਰੜਿ ਕਹਾ ਸੁ ਲਾਲ ਕਵਾਈ ॥
Kahā so ṯegbanḏ gāderaṛ kahā so lāl kavā▫ī.
Where are the sword-belts and chariots? Where are those scarlet uniforms?
|
ਕਹਾ ਸੁ ਆਰਸੀਆ ਮੁਹ ਬੰਕੇ ਐਥੈ ਦਿਸਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੧॥
Kahā so ārsī▫ā muh banke aithai ḏisėh nāhī. ||1||
Where are the rings and the beautiful faces? They are no longer to be seen here. ||1||
|
ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਤੂ ਗੋਸਾਈ ॥
Ih jag ṯerā ṯū gosā▫ī.
This world is Yours; You are the Lord of the Universe.
|
ਏਕ ਘੜੀ ਮਹਿ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪੇ ਜਰੁ ਵੰਡਿ ਦੇਵੈ ਭਾਂਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Ėk gẖaṛī mėh thāp uthāpe jar vand ḏevai bẖāʼn▫ī. ||1|| rahā▫o.
In an instant, You establish and disestablish. You distribute wealth as it pleases You. ||1||Pause||
|
ਕਹਾਂ ਸੁ ਘਰ ਦਰ ਮੰਡਪ ਮਹਲਾ ਕਹਾ ਸੁ ਬੰਕ ਸਰਾਈ ॥
Kahāʼn so gẖar ḏar mandap mėhlā kahā so bank sarā▫ī.
Where are the houses, the gates, the hotels and palaces? Where are those beautiful way-stations?
|
ਕਹਾਂ ਸੁ ਸੇਜ ਸੁਖਾਲੀ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਵੇਖਿ ਨੀਦ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
Kahāʼn so sej sukẖālī kāmaṇ jis vekẖ nīḏ na pā▫ī.
Where are those beautiful women, reclining on their beds, whose beauty would not allow one to sleep?

ਕਹਾ ਸੁ ਪਾਨ ਤੰਬੋਲੀ ਹਰਮਾ ਹੋਈਆ ਛਾਈ ਮਾਈ ॥੨॥
Kahā so pān ṯambolī harmā ho▫ī▫ā cẖẖā▫ī mā▫ī. ||2||
Where are those betel leaves, their sellers, and the harem? They have vanished like shadows. ||2||
|
ਇਸੁ ਜਰ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਘਣੀ ਵਿਗੁਤੀ ਇਨਿ ਜਰ ਘਣੀ ਖੁਆਈ ॥
Is jar kāraṇ gẖaṇī viguṯī in jar gẖaṇī kẖu▫ā▫ī.
For the sake of this wealth, so many were ruined; because of this wealth, so many have been disgraced.

ਪਾਪਾ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਮੁਇਆ ਸਾਥਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
Pāpā bājẖahu hovai nāhī mu▫i▫ā sāth na jā▫ī.
It was not gathered without sin, and it does not go along with the dead.

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪਿ ਖੁਆਏ ਕਰਤਾ ਖੁਸਿ ਲਏ ਚੰਗਿਆਈ ॥੩॥
Jis no āp kẖu▫ā▫e karṯā kẖus la▫e cẖangi▫ā▫ī. ||3||
Those, whom the Creator Lord would destroy - first He strips them of virtue. ||3||
|
ਕੋਟੀ ਹੂ ਪੀਰ ਵਰਜਿ ਰਹਾਏ ਜਾ ਮੀਰੁ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਧਾਇਆ ॥
Kotī hū pīr varaj rahā▫e jā mīr suṇi▫ā ḏẖā▫i▫ā.
Millions of religious leaders failed to halt the invader, when they heard of the Emperor's invasion.
