ਕੰਚਨ ਕਾਇਆ ਜੋਤਿ ਅਨੂਪੁ ॥
His body becomes gold by God's incomparable light.
|
ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਦੇਵਾ ਸਗਲ ਸਰੂਪੁ ॥
He beholds Lord's beauty in all the three worlds.
|
ਮੈ ਸੋ ਧਨੁ ਪਲੈ ਸਾਚੁ ਅਖੂਟੁ ॥੪॥
That true and inexhaustible wealth is, now in my lap.
|
ਪੰਚ ਤੀਨਿ ਨਵ ਚਾਰਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥
The Lord pervades in the five elements, three worlds, nine regions and the four directions.
|
ਧਰਣਿ ਗਗਨੁ ਕਲ ਧਾਰਿ ਰਹਾਵੈ ॥
Exercising His power, He is supporting the earth and the sky.
|
ਬਾਹਰਿ ਜਾਤਉ ਉਲਟਿ ਪਰਾਵੈ ॥੫॥
The Lord brings back the outgoing mind.
|
ਮੂਰਖੁ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਆਖੀ ਸੂਝੈ ॥
whoever is a fool sees not with his (mind's) eyes.
|
ਜਿਹਵਾ ਰਸੁ ਨਹੀ ਕਹਿਆ ਬੂਝੈ ॥
His language gives not pleasure and he understands not what is told to him.
|
ਬਿਖੁ ਕਾ ਮਾਤਾ ਜਗ ਸਿਉ ਲੂਝੈ ॥੬॥
Intoxicated with vice, he quarrels with the world.
|
ਊਤਮ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਊਤਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
With good association, the man becomes good.
|
ਗੁਣ ਕਉ ਧਾਵੈ ਅਵਗਣ ਧੋਵੈ ॥
He runs after virtues and washes off his sins.
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਸਹਜੁ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ॥੭॥
Without serving the Guru, poise is not obtained.
|
ਹੀਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਵੇਹਰ ਲਾਲੁ ॥
Lord's Name is the diamond jewel and ruby.
|
ਮਨੁ ਮੋਤੀ ਹੈ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਮਾਲੁ ॥
The mind-pearl is that Lord's wealth.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਪਰਖੈ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲੁ ॥੮॥੫॥
Nanak, the Lord assays the man and makes him happy with a glance.

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਮਨਿ ਮਾਨੁ ॥
Through the Guru, divine knowledge, concentration and mind's satiation are attained.
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਹਲੀ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਛਾਨੁ ॥
Through the Guru, the Master's mansion is recognised.
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਨੀਸਾਨੁ ॥੧॥
Through the Guru, God's Name become manifest in man's mind.
|
ਐਸੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥
This is how the Lord's devotional worship is deliberated upon.
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Through the Guru, the True Name of God, the enemy of pride, is obtained. Pause.
|
ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਥਾਨਿ ਸੁਥਾਨੁ ॥
The man, day and night, remains pure and abides in a exalted place.
|
ਤੀਨ ਭਵਨ ਨਿਹਕੇਵਲ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
He acquires the true knowledge of the three worlds.
|
ਸਾਚੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਨੁ ॥੨॥
Through the True Guru, Lord's fiat is recognised.
|
ਸਾਚਾ ਹਰਖੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਸੋਗੁ ॥
He enjoys true bliss and no woe befalls him.
|
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਭੋਗੁ ॥
He relishes the Nectarean gnosis and the supreme essence.
|
ਪੰਚ ਸਮਾਈ ਸੁਖੀ ਸਭੁ ਲੋਗੁ ॥੩॥
His five evil passions are stilled and he becomes the happiest of all the men.
|
ਸਗਲੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ॥
Thy light is contained among all and every one is Thine, O Lord.
|
ਆਪੇ ਜੋੜਿ ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਸੋਈ ॥
He Himself unites and separates.
|
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੪॥
Whatever the Creator Himself does, that alone happens.
|
ਢਾਹਿ ਉਸਾਰੇ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥
He Himself demolishes and builds and by His order obliterates He.
|
ਹੁਕਮੋ ਵਰਤੈ ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
Whatever Pleases Him, happens under His fiat.
|
ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੫॥
Without the Guru, none attains the Perfect Lord.
|
ਬਾਲਕ ਬਿਰਧਿ ਨ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਪਰਾਨਿ ॥
In childhood and old age, the mortal lacks understanding.
|
ਭਰਿ ਜੋਬਨਿ ਬੂਡੈ ਅਭਿਮਾਨਿ ॥
In the prime of youth, he is drowned in pride.
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕਿਆ ਲਹਸਿ ਨਿਦਾਨਿ ॥੬॥
Without the Name, what can he, the fool, attain?
|
ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਅਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਨ ਜਾਨਾ ॥
Man knows Him not devotionally, to whom belong the provision and wealth.
|
ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਨਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਨਾ ॥
Gone amiss in doubt he regrets afterwards.
|
ਗਲਿ ਫਾਹੀ ਬਉਰਾ ਬਉਰਾਨਾ ॥੭॥
Around the neck of the most foolish man is death's noose.
|
ਬੂਡਤ ਜਗੁ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਤਉ ਡਰਿ ਭਾਗੇ ॥
Seeing the world drowning, I ran away in fear, then.
|
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੇ ॥
Very fortunate are they, whom True Guru has saved.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਾਗੇ ॥੮॥੬॥
Nanak, they cling to the Guru's Feet.
|
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥
Asa 1st Guru.
|
ਗਾਵਹਿ ਗੀਤੇ ਚੀਤਿ ਅਨੀਤੇ ॥
Men sing religious songs but in their mind is wickedness.
|
ਰਾਗ ਸੁਣਾਇ ਕਹਾਵਹਿ ਬੀਤੇ ॥
They sing music and call themselves divines.
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਮਨਿ ਝੂਠੁ ਅਨੀਤੇ ॥੧॥
Without the Name, their mind is false and evil.
|
ਕਹਾ ਚਲਹੁ ਮਨ ਰਹਹੁ ਘਰੇ ॥
Where goest thou? O man, remain at home.
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਸੇ ਖੋਜਤ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਹਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
The Guru-wards are satiated with the Lord's Name, and by searching, they easily find God. Pause.
|
ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਮਨਿ ਮੋਹੁ ਸਰੀਰਾ ॥
Lust, wrath, worldly attachment are in the body,
|
ਲਬੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ਸੁ ਪੀਰਾ ॥
and greed, avarice and ego are within man's mind, so he is in pain.
|
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਧੀਰਾ ॥੨॥
How can the soul be consoled without the Name of the Omnipresent the Lord.
|
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਵਣੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥
He, who laves internally knows the True Lord.
|
ਅੰਤਰ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
The pious person knows the condition of his mind.
|
ਸਾਚ ਸਬਦ ਬਿਨੁ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥੩॥
Without the True Name, Lord's presence cannot be realised.
|
ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਮਹਿ ਆਕਾਰੁ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥
He, who merges his from into the Formless Lord,
|
ਅਕਲ ਕਲਾ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਚਿ ਟਿਕਾਵੈ ॥
and abides in the Truest of the true, mighty Unknowable Lord,
|
ਸੋ ਨਰੁ ਗਰਭ ਜੋਨਿ ਨਹੀ ਆਵੈ ॥੪॥
that man enters not the womb-existences again.
|
ਜਹਾਂ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਹ ਜਾਉ ॥
Go thou there, where thou may obtain the Name.
