ਸੁਖੁ ਮਾਨੈ ਭੇਟੈ ਗੁਰ ਪੀਰੁ
सुखु मानै भेटै गुर पीरु ॥
Sukẖ mānai bẖetai gur pīr.
Peace is enjoyed, meeting the Guru, the Spiritual Teacher.

ਏਕੋ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਏਕੁ ਵਜੀਰੁ ॥੫॥
एको साहिबु एकु वजीरु ॥५॥
Ėko sāhib ek vajīr. ||5||
The Lord is the only Master; He is the only Minister. ||5||

ਜਗੁ ਬੰਦੀ ਮੁਕਤੇ ਹਉ ਮਾਰੀ
जगु बंदी मुकते हउ मारी ॥
Jag banḏī mukṯe ha▫o mārī.
The world is held in bondage; he alone is emancipated, who conquers his ego.

ਜਗਿ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਆਚਾਰੀ
जगि गिआनी विरला आचारी ॥
Jag gi▫ānī virlā ācẖārī.
How rare in the world is that wise person, who practices this.

ਜਗਿ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ
जगि पंडितु विरला वीचारी ॥
Jag pandiṯ virlā vīcẖārī.
How rare in this world is that scholar who reflects upon this.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੇ ਸਭ ਫਿਰੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥੬॥
बिनु सतिगुरु भेटे सभ फिरै अहंकारी ॥६॥
Bin saṯgur bẖete sabẖ firai ahaʼnkārī. ||6||
Without meeting the True Guru, all wander in ego. ||6||

ਜਗੁ ਦੁਖੀਆ ਸੁਖੀਆ ਜਨੁ ਕੋਇ
जगु दुखीआ सुखीआ जनु कोइ ॥
Jag ḏukẖī▫ā sukẖī▫ā jan ko▫e.
The world is unhappy; only a few are happy.

ਜਗੁ ਰੋਗੀ ਭੋਗੀ ਗੁਣ ਰੋਇ
जगु रोगी भोगी गुण रोइ ॥
Jag rogī bẖogī guṇ ro▫e.
The world is diseased, from its indulgences; it weeps over its lost virtue.

ਜਗੁ ਉਪਜੈ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਇ
जगु उपजै बिनसै पति खोइ ॥
Jag upjai binsai paṯ kẖo▫e.
The world wells up, and then subsides, losing its honor.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੭॥
गुरमुखि होवै बूझै सोइ ॥७॥
Gurmukẖ hovai būjẖai so▫e. ||7||
He alone, who becomes Gurmukh, understands. ||7||

ਮਹਘੋ ਮੋਲਿ ਭਾਰਿ ਅਫਾਰੁ
महघो मोलि भारि अफारु ॥
Mahgẖo mol bẖār afār.
His price is so costly; His weight is unbearable.

ਅਟਲ ਅਛਲੁ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਧਾਰੁ
अटल अछलु गुरमती धारु ॥
Atal acẖẖal gurmaṯī ḏẖār.
He is immovable and undeceivable; enshrine Him in your mind, through the Guru's Teachings.

ਭਾਇ ਮਿਲੈ ਭਾਵੈ ਭਇਕਾਰੁ
भाइ मिलै भावै भइकारु ॥
Bẖā▫e milai bẖāvai bẖa▫ikār.
Meet Him through love, become pleasing to Him, and act in fear of Him.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਨੀਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥੮॥੩॥
नानकु नीचु कहै बीचारु ॥८॥३॥
Nānak nīcẖ kahai bīcẖār. ||8||3||
Nanak the lowly says this, after deep contemplation. ||8||3||

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ
आसा महला १ ॥
Āsā mėhlā 1.
Aasaa, First Mehl:

ਏਕੁ ਮਰੈ ਪੰਚੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਰੋਵਹਿ
एकु मरै पंचे मिलि रोवहि ॥
Ėk marai pancẖe mil rovėh.
When someone dies, the five passions meet and mourn his death.

ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਇ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਲੁ ਧੋਵਹਿ
हउमै जाइ सबदि मलु धोवहि ॥
Ha▫umai jā▫e sabaḏ mal ḏẖovėh.
Overcoming self-conceit, he washes off his filth with the Word of the Shabad.

ਸਮਝਿ ਸੂਝਿ ਸਹਜ ਘਰਿ ਹੋਵਹਿ
समझि सूझि सहज घरि होवहि ॥
Samajẖ sūjẖ sahj gẖar hovėh.
One who knows and understands, enters the home of peace and poise.

ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਸਗਲੀ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਵਹਿ ॥੧॥
बिनु बूझे सगली पति खोवहि ॥१॥
Bin būjẖe saglī paṯ kẖovėh. ||1||
Without understanding, he loses all his honor. ||1||

ਕਉਣੁ ਮਰੈ ਕਉਣੁ ਰੋਵੈ ਓਹੀ
कउणु मरै कउणु रोवै ओही ॥
Ka▫uṇ marai ka▫uṇ rovai ohī.
Who dies, and who weeps for him?

ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਭਸੈ ਸਿਰਿ ਤੋਹੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
करण कारण सभसै सिरि तोही ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Karaṇ kāraṇ sabẖsai sir ṯohī. ||1|| rahā▫o.
O Lord, Creator, Cause of causes, You are over the heads of all. ||1||Pause||

ਮੂਏ ਕਉ ਰੋਵੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਕੋਇ
मूए कउ रोवै दुखु कोइ ॥
Mū▫e ka▫o rovai ḏukẖ ko▫e.
Who weeps over the pain of the dead?

ਸੋ ਰੋਵੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਬੇਦਨ ਹੋਇ
सो रोवै जिसु बेदन होइ ॥
So rovai jis beḏan ho▫e.
Those who weep, do so over their own troubles.

ਜਿਸੁ ਬੀਤੀ ਜਾਣੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੋਇ
जिसु बीती जाणै प्रभ सोइ ॥
Jis bīṯī jāṇai parabẖ so▫e.
God knows the condition of those who are so affected.

ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
आपे करता करे सु होइ ॥२॥
Āpe karṯā kare so ho▫e. ||2||
Whatever the Creator does, comes to pass. ||2||

ਜੀਵਤ ਮਰਣਾ ਤਾਰੇ ਤਰਣਾ
जीवत मरणा तारे तरणा ॥
Jīvaṯ marṇā ṯāre ṯarṇā.
One who remains dead while yet alive, is saved, and saves others as well.

ਜੈ ਜਗਦੀਸ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਸਰਣਾ
जै जगदीस परम गति सरणा ॥
Jai jagḏīs param gaṯ sarṇā.
Celebrate the Victory of the Lord; taking to His Sanctuary, the supreme status is obtained.

ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਚਰਣਾ
हउ बलिहारी सतिगुर चरणा ॥
Ha▫o balihārī saṯgur cẖarṇā.
I am a sacrifice to the feet of the True Guru.

ਗੁਰੁ ਬੋਹਿਥੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਭੈ ਤਰਣਾ ॥੩॥
गुरु बोहिथु सबदि भै तरणा ॥३॥
Gur bohith sabaḏ bẖai ṯarṇā. ||3||
The Guru is the boat; through the Shabad of His Word, the terrifying world-ocean is crossed over. ||3||

ਨਿਰਭਉ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਜੋਤਿ
निरभउ आपि निरंतरि जोति ॥
Nirbẖa▫o āp niranṯar joṯ.
He Himself is Fearless; His Divine Light is contained in all.

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸੂਤਕੁ ਜਗਿ ਛੋਤਿ
बिनु नावै सूतकु जगि छोति ॥
Bin nāvai sūṯak jag cẖẖoṯ.
Without the Name, the world is defiled and untouchable.

ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਕਿਆ ਕਹਿ ਰੋਤਿ
दुरमति बिनसै किआ कहि रोति ॥
Ḏurmaṯ binsai ki▫ā kahi roṯ.
Through evil-mindedness, they are ruined; why should they cry out and weep?

ਜਨਮਿ ਮੂਏ ਬਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਰੋਤਿ ॥੪॥
जनमि मूए बिनु भगति सरोति ॥४॥
Janam mū▫e bin bẖagaṯ saroṯ. ||4||
They are born only to die, without hearing the music of devotional worship. ||4||

ਮੂਏ ਕਉ ਸਚੁ ਰੋਵਹਿ ਮੀਤ
मूए कउ सचु रोवहि मीत ॥
Mū▫e ka▫o sacẖ rovėh mīṯ.
Only one's true friends mourn one's death.

ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਰੋਵਹਿ ਨੀਤਾ ਨੀਤ
त्रै गुण रोवहि नीता नीत ॥
Ŧarai guṇ rovėh nīṯā nīṯ.
Those under the sway of the three dispositions continue to mourn on and on.

ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਰਹਰਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਚੀਤ
दुखु सुखु परहरि सहजि सुचीत ॥
Ḏukẖ sukẖ parhar sahj sucẖīṯ.
Disregarding pain and pleasure, center your consciousness on the Lord.

ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸਉਪਉ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਪਰੀਤਿ ॥੫॥
तनु मनु सउपउ क्रिसन परीति ॥५॥
Ŧan man sa▫opa▫o krisan parīṯ. ||5||
Dedicate your body and mind to the Love of the Lord. ||5||

ਭੀਤਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਅਨੇਕ ਅਸੰਖ
भीतरि एकु अनेक असंख ॥
Bẖīṯar ek anek asaʼnkẖ.
The One Lord dwells within the various and countless beings.

ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਬਹੁ ਸੰਖ ਅਸੰਖ
करम धरम बहु संख असंख ॥
Karam ḏẖaram baho sankẖ asaʼnkẖ.
There are so many rituals and religious faiths, their number is innumerable.

ਬਿਨੁ ਭੈ ਭਗਤੀ ਜਨਮੁ ਬਿਰੰਥ
बिनु भै भगती जनमु बिरंथ ॥
Bin bẖai bẖagṯī janam biranth.
Without the Fear of God, and devotional worship, one's life is in vain.

ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਪਰਮਾਰੰਥ ॥੬॥
हरि गुण गावहि मिलि परमारंथ ॥६॥
Har guṇ gāvahi mil parmāranth. ||6||
Singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, the supreme wealth is obtained. ||6||

ਆਪਿ ਮਰੈ ਮਾਰੇ ਭੀ ਆਪਿ
आपि मरै मारे भी आपि ॥
Āp marai māre bẖī āp.
He Himself dies, and He Himself kills.

ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਏ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪਿ
आपि उपाए थापि उथापि ॥
Āp upā▫e thāp uthāp.
He Himself establishes, and having established, disestablishes.

ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਈ ਜੋਤੀ ਤੂ ਜਾਤਿ
स्रिसटि उपाई जोती तू जाति ॥
Sarisat upā▫ī joṯī ṯū jāṯ.
He created the Universe, and by His Divine Nature, instilled His Divine Light into it.

ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ਮਿਲਣੁ ਨਹੀ ਭ੍ਰਾਤਿ ॥੭॥
सबदु वीचारि मिलणु नही भ्राति ॥७॥
Sabaḏ vīcẖār milaṇ nahī bẖarāṯ. ||7||
One who reflects upon the Word of the Shabad, meets the Lord, without doubt. ||7||

ਸੂਤਕੁ ਅਗਨਿ ਭਖੈ ਜਗੁ ਖਾਇ
सूतकु अगनि भखै जगु खाइ ॥
Sūṯak agan bẖakẖai jag kẖā▫e.
Pollution is the burning fire, which is consuming the world.

ਸੂਤਕੁ ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਥਾਇ
सूतकु जलि थलि सभ ही थाइ ॥
Sūṯak jal thal sabẖ hī thā▫e.
Pollution is in the water, upon the land, and everywhere.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸੂਤਕਿ ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰੀਜੈ
नानक सूतकि जनमि मरीजै ॥
Nānak sūṯak janam marījai.
O Nanak, people are born and die in pollution.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਜੈ ॥੮॥੪॥
गुर परसादी हरि रसु पीजै ॥८॥४॥
Gur parsādī har ras pījai. ||8||4||
By Guru's Grace, they drink in the Lord's sublime elixir. ||8||4||

ਰਾਗੁ ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ
रागु आसा महला १ ॥
Rāg āsā mėhlā 1.
Aasaa, First Mehl:

ਆਪੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੈ ਸੁ ਪਰਖੇ ਹੀਰਾ
आपु वीचारै सु परखे हीरा ॥
Āp vīcẖārai so parkẖe hīrā.
One who contemplates his own self, tests the worth of the jewel.

ਏਕ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਤਾਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰਾ
एक द्रिसटि तारे गुर पूरा ॥
Ėk ḏarisat ṯāre gur pūrā.
With a single glance, the Perfect Guru saves him.

ਗੁਰੁ ਮਾਨੈ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਮਨੁ ਧੀਰਾ ॥੧॥
गुरु मानै मन ते मनु धीरा ॥१॥
Gur mānai man ṯe man ḏẖīrā. ||1||
When the Guru is pleased, one's mind comforts itself. ||1||

ਐਸਾ ਸਾਹੁ ਸਰਾਫੀ ਕਰੈ
ऐसा साहु सराफी करै ॥
Aisā sāhu sarāfī karai.
He is such a banker, who tests us.

ਸਾਚੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਏਕ ਲਿਵ ਤਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
साची नदरि एक लिव तरै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Sācẖī naḏar ek liv ṯarai. ||1|| rahā▫o.
By His True Glance of Grace, we are blessed with the Love of the One Lord, and are saved. ||1||Pause||

ਪੂੰਜੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਸਾਰੁ
पूंजी नामु निरंजन सारु ॥
Pūnjī nām niranjan sār.
The capital of the Naam is immaculate and sublime.

ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਾਚਿ ਰਤਾ ਪੈਕਾਰੁ
निरमलु साचि रता पैकारु ॥
Nirmal sācẖ raṯā paikār.
That peddler is rendered pure, who is imbued with the Truth.

ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਹਜ ਘਰਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
सिफति सहज घरि गुरु करतारु ॥२॥
Sifaṯ sahj gẖar gur karṯār. ||2||
Praising the Lord, in the house of poise, he attains the Guru, the Creator. ||2||

ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਏ
आसा मनसा सबदि जलाए ॥
Āsā mansā sabaḏ jalā▫e.
One who burns away hope and desire through the Word of the Shabad,

ਰਾਮ ਨਰਾਇਣੁ ਕਹੈ ਕਹਾਏ
राम नराइणु कहै कहाए ॥
Rām narā▫iṇ kahai kahā▫e.
chants the Lord's Name, and inspires others to chant it as well.

ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਵਾਟ ਮਹਲੁ ਘਰੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੩॥
गुर ते वाट महलु घरु पाए ॥३॥
Gur ṯe vāt mahal gẖar pā▫e. ||3||
Through the Guru, he finds the Path home, to the Mansion of the Lord's Presence. ||3||
