ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਫੁਨਿ ਹੋਇ
जो तिसु भावै सो फुनि होइ ॥
Jo ṯis bẖāvai so fun ho▫e.
Whatever pleases Him, comes to pass.

ਸੁਣਿ ਭਰਥਰਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਹੈ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ
सुणि भरथरि नानकु कहै बीचारु ॥
Suṇ bẖarthar Nānak kahai bīcẖār.
Listen, O Bharthari Yogi - Nanak speaks after deliberation;

ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥੮॥੧॥
निरमल नामु मेरा आधारु ॥८॥१॥
Nirmal nām merā āḏẖār. ||8||1||
the Immaculate Name is my only Support. ||8||1||

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ
आसा महला १ ॥
Āsā mėhlā 1.
Aasaa, First Mehl:

ਸਭਿ ਜਪ ਸਭਿ ਤਪ ਸਭ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ
सभि जप सभि तप सभ चतुराई ॥
Sabẖ jap sabẖ ṯap sabẖ cẖaṯurā▫ī.
All meditation, all austerities, and all clever tricks,

ਊਝੜਿ ਭਰਮੈ ਰਾਹਿ ਪਾਈ
ऊझड़ि भरमै राहि न पाई ॥
Ūjẖaṛ bẖarmai rāhi na pā▫ī.
lead one to wander in the wilderness, but he does not find the Path.

ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਕੋ ਥਾਇ ਪਾਈ
बिनु बूझे को थाइ न पाई ॥
Bin būjẖe ko thā▫e na pā▫ī.
Without understanding, he is not approved;

ਨਾਮ ਬਿਹੂਣੈ ਮਾਥੇ ਛਾਈ ॥੧॥
नाम बिहूणै माथे छाई ॥१॥
Nām bihūṇai māthe cẖẖā▫ī. ||1||
without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, ashes are thrown upon one's head. ||1||

ਸਾਚ ਧਣੀ ਜਗੁ ਆਇ ਬਿਨਾਸਾ
साच धणी जगु आइ बिनासा ॥
Sācẖ ḏẖaṇī jag ā▫e bināsā.
True is the Master; the world comes and goes.

ਛੂਟਸਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦਾਸਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
छूटसि प्राणी गुरमुखि दासा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Cẖẖūtas parāṇī gurmukẖ ḏāsā. ||1|| rahā▫o.
The mortal is emancipated, as Gurmukh, as the Lord's slave. ||1||Pause||

ਜਗੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਬਾਧਾ ਬਹੁਤੀ ਆਸਾ
जगु मोहि बाधा बहुती आसा ॥
Jag mohi bāḏẖā bahuṯī āsā.
The world is bound by its attachments to the many desires.

ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਇਕਿ ਭਏ ਉਦਾਸਾ
गुरमती इकि भए उदासा ॥
Gurmaṯī ik bẖa▫e uḏāsā.
Through the Guru's Teachings, some become free of desire.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਮਲੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਾ
अंतरि नामु कमलु परगासा ॥
Anṯar nām kamal pargāsā.
Within them is the Naam, and their heart lotus blossoms forth.

ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਤ੍ਰਾਸਾ ॥੨॥
तिन्ह कउ नाही जम की त्रासा ॥२॥
Ŧinĥ ka▫o nāhī jam kī ṯarāsā. ||2||
They have no fear of death. ||2||

ਜਗੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਅ ਜਿਤੁ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਹਿਤਕਾਰੀ
जगु त्रिअ जितु कामणि हितकारी ॥
Jag ṯari▫a jiṯ kāmaṇ hiṯkārī.
The men of the world are conquered by woman; they love the ladies.

ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕਲਤ੍ਰ ਲਗਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰੀ
पुत्र कलत्र लगि नामु विसारी ॥
Puṯar kalṯar lag nām visārī.
Attached to children and wife, they forget the Naam.

ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਬਾਜੀ ਹਾਰੀ
बिरथा जनमु गवाइआ बाजी हारी ॥
Birthā janam gavā▫i▫ā bājī hārī.
They waste this human life in vain, and lose the game in the gamble.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਾਰੀ ॥੩॥
सतिगुरु सेवे करणी सारी ॥३॥
Saṯgur seve karṇī sārī. ||3||
Serving the True Guru is the best occupation. ||3||

ਬਾਹਰਹੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਹੈ ਕਹਾਏ
बाहरहु हउमै कहै कहाए ॥
Bāhrahu ha▫umai kahai kahā▫e.
One who speaks egotistically in public,

ਅੰਦਰਹੁ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਲੇਪੁ ਕਦੇ ਲਾਏ
अंदरहु मुकतु लेपु कदे न लाए ॥
Anḏrahu mukaṯ lep kaḏe na lā▫e.
never attains liberation within.

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਏ
माइआ मोहु गुर सबदि जलाए ॥
Mā▫i▫ā moh gur sabaḏ jalā▫e.
One who burns away his attachment to Maya, by the Word of the Guru's Shabad,

ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਧਿਆਏ ॥੪॥
निरमल नामु सद हिरदै धिआए ॥४॥
Nirmal nām saḏ hirḏai ḏẖi▫ā▫e. ||4||
meditates forever within his heart on the Immaculate Naam. ||4||

ਧਾਵਤੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਏ
धावतु राखै ठाकि रहाए ॥
Ḏẖāvaṯ rākẖai ṯẖāk rahā▫e.
He restrains his wandering mind, and keeps it under control.

ਸਿਖ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ
सिख संगति करमि मिलाए ॥
Sikẖ sangaṯ karam milā▫e.
The company of such a Sikh is obtained only by Grace.

ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਭੂਲੋ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਏ
गुर बिनु भूलो आवै जाए ॥
Gur bin bẖūlo āvai jā▫e.
Without the Guru, he goes astray and continues coming and going.

ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੰਜੋਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥੫॥
नदरि करे संजोगि मिलाए ॥५॥
Naḏar kare sanjog milā▫e. ||5||
Bestowing His Mercy, the Lord unites him in Union. ||5||

ਰੂੜੋ ਕਹਉ ਕਹਿਆ ਜਾਈ
रूड़ो कहउ न कहिआ जाई ॥
Rūṛo kaha▫o na kahi▫ā jā▫ī.
I cannot describe the Beauteous Lord.

ਅਕਥ ਕਥਉ ਨਹ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ
अकथ कथउ नह कीमति पाई ॥
Akath katha▫o nah kīmaṯ pā▫ī.
I speak the unspoken; I cannot estimate His value.

ਸਭ ਦੁਖ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੂਖ ਰਜਾਈ
सभ दुख तेरे सूख रजाई ॥
Sabẖ ḏukẖ ṯere sūkẖ rajā▫ī.
All pain and pleasure come by Your Will.

ਸਭਿ ਦੁਖ ਮੇਟੇ ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਈ ॥੬॥
सभि दुख मेटे साचै नाई ॥६॥
Sabẖ ḏukẖ mete sācẖai nā▫ī. ||6||
All pain is eradicated by the True Name. ||6||

ਕਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਵਾਜਾ ਪਗ ਬਿਨੁ ਤਾਲਾ
कर बिनु वाजा पग बिनु ताला ॥
Kar bin vājā pag bin ṯālā.
He plays the instrument without hands, and dances without feet.

ਜੇ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੁਝੈ ਤਾ ਸਚੁ ਨਿਹਾਲਾ
जे सबदु बुझै ता सचु निहाला ॥
Je sabaḏ bujẖai ṯā sacẖ nihālā.
But if he understands the Word of the Shabad, then he shall behold the True Lord.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਸਭੇ ਸੁਖ ਨਾਲਾ
अंतरि साचु सभे सुख नाला ॥
Anṯar sācẖ sabẖe sukẖ nālā.
With the True Lord within the self, all happiness comes.

ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਰਾਖੈ ਰਖਵਾਲਾ ॥੭॥
नदरि करे राखै रखवाला ॥७॥
Naḏar kare rākẖai rakẖvālā. ||7||
Showering His Mercy, the Preserving Lord preserves him. ||7||

ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਸੂਝੈ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਵੈ
त्रिभवण सूझै आपु गवावै ॥
Ŧaribẖavaṇ sūjẖai āp gavāvai.
He understands the three worlds; he eliminates his self-conceit.

ਬਾਣੀ ਬੂਝੈ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ
बाणी बूझै सचि समावै ॥
Baṇī būjẖai sacẖ samāvai.
He understands the Bani of the Word, and he is absorbed into the True Lord.

ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ਏਕ ਲਿਵ ਤਾਰਾ
सबदु वीचारे एक लिव तारा ॥
Sabaḏ vīcẖāre ek liv ṯārā.
Contemplating the Shabad, he enshrines love for the One Lord.

ਨਾਨਕ ਧੰਨੁ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰਾ ॥੮॥੨॥
नानक धंनु सवारणहारा ॥८॥२॥
Nānak ḏẖan savāraṇhārā. ||8||2||
O Nanak, blessed is the Lord, the Embellisher. ||8||2||

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ
आसा महला १ ॥
Āsā mėhlā 1.
Aasaa, First Mehl:

ਲੇਖ ਅਸੰਖ ਲਿਖਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਮਾਨੁ
लेख असंख लिखि लिखि मानु ॥
Lekẖ asaʼnkẖ likẖ likẖ mān.
There are innumerable writings; those who write them take pride in them.

ਮਨਿ ਮਾਨਿਐ ਸਚੁ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਵਖਾਨੁ
मनि मानिऐ सचु सुरति वखानु ॥
Man mānī▫ai sacẖ suraṯ vakẖān.
When one's mind accepts the Truth, he understands, and speaks of it.

ਕਥਨੀ ਬਦਨੀ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਭਾਰੁ
कथनी बदनी पड़ि पड़ि भारु ॥
Kathnī baḏnī paṛ paṛ bẖār.
Words, spoken and read again and again, are useless loads.

ਲੇਖ ਅਸੰਖ ਅਲੇਖੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
लेख असंख अलेखु अपारु ॥१॥
Lekẖ asaʼnkẖ alekẖ apār. ||1||
There are innumerable writings, but the Infinite Lord remains unwritten. ||1||

ਐਸਾ ਸਾਚਾ ਤੂੰ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣੁ
ऐसा साचा तूं एको जाणु ॥
Aisā sācẖā ṯūʼn eko jāṇ.
Know that such a True Lord is the One and only.

ਜੰਮਣੁ ਮਰਣਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਣੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
जमणु मरणा हुकमु पछाणु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Jamaṇ marṇā hukam pacẖẖāṇ. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Understand that birth and death come according to the Lord's Will. ||1||Pause||

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਜਗੁ ਬਾਧਾ ਜਮਕਾਲਿ
माइआ मोहि जगु बाधा जमकालि ॥
Mā▫i▫ā mohi jag bāḏẖā jamkāl.
Because of attachment to Maya, the world is bound by the Messenger of Death.

ਬਾਂਧਾ ਛੂਟੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਲਿ
बांधा छूटै नामु सम्हालि ॥
Bāʼnḏẖā cẖẖūtai nām samĥāl.
These bonds are released when one remembers the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਗੁਰੁ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਭਾਲਿ
गुरु सुखदाता अवरु न भालि ॥
Gur sukẖ▫ḏāṯa avar na bẖāl.
The Guru is the Giver of peace; do not look for any other.

ਹਲਤਿ ਪਲਤਿ ਨਿਬਹੀ ਤੁਧੁ ਨਾਲਿ ॥੨॥
हलति पलति निबही तुधु नालि ॥२॥
Halaṯ palaṯ nibhī ṯuḏẖ nāl. ||2||
In this world, and the next, He shall stand by you. ||2||

ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਤਾਂ ਏਕ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ
सबदि मरै तां एक लिव लाए ॥
Sabaḏ marai ṯāʼn ek liv lā▫e.
One who dies in the Word of the Shabad, embraces love for the One Lord.

ਅਚਰੁ ਚਰੈ ਤਾਂ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਏ
अचरु चरै तां भरमु चुकाए ॥
Acẖar cẖarai ṯāʼn bẖaram cẖukā▫e.
One who mends the difficult mind, has his doubts dispelled.

ਜੀਵਨ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਮਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਾਏ
जीवन मुकतु मनि नामु वसाए ॥
Jīvan mukaṯ man nām vasā▫e.
He is Jivan Mukta - liberated while yet alive; the Naam abides in his mind.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੩॥
गुरमुखि होइ त सचि समाए ॥३॥
Gurmukẖ ho▫e ṯa sacẖ samā▫e. ||3||
Becoming Gurmukh, he merges into the True Lord. ||3||

ਜਿਨਿ ਧਰ ਸਾਜੀ ਗਗਨੁ ਅਕਾਸੁ
जिनि धर साजी गगनु अकासु ॥
Jin ḏẖar sājī gagan akās.
The One who created the earth and the Akaashic ethers of the sky,

ਜਿਨਿ ਸਭ ਥਾਪੀ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪਿ
जिनि सभ थापी थापि उथापि ॥
Jin sabẖ thāpī thāp uthāp.
established all; He establishes and disestablishes.

ਸਰਬ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ
सरब निरंतरि आपे आपि ॥
Sarab niranṯar āpe āp.
He Himself is permeating all.

ਕਿਸੈ ਪੂਛੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਆਪਿ ॥੪॥
किसै न पूछे बखसे आपि ॥४॥
Kisai na pūcẖẖe bakẖse āp. ||4||
He does not consult anyone; He Himself forgives. ||4||

ਤੂ ਪੁਰੁ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਮਾਣਕ ਹੀਰੁ
तू पुरु सागरु माणक हीरु ॥
Ŧū pur sāgar māṇak hīr.
You are the Ocean, over-flowing with jewels and rubies.

ਤੂ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਚੁ ਗੁਣੀ ਗਹੀਰੁ
तू निरमलु सचु गुणी गहीरु ॥
Ŧū nirmal sacẖ guṇī gahīr.
You are immaculate and pure, the true treasure of virtue.
