ਸੰਚਤ ਸੰਚਤ ਥੈਲੀ ਕੀਨੑੀ ॥
संचत संचत थैली कीन्ही ॥
Sanchaṫ sanchaṫ ṫʰælee keenĥee.
Gathering it and collecting it, he fills his bags.
|
ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਉਸ ਤੇ ਡਾਰਿ ਅਵਰ ਕਉ ਦੀਨੑੀ ॥੧॥
प्रभि उस ते डारि अवर कउ दीन्ही ॥१॥
Parabʰ us ṫé daar avar ka▫o ḋeenĥee. ||1||
But God takes it away from him, and gives it to another. ||1||
|
ਕਾਚ ਗਗਰੀਆ ਅੰਭ ਮਝਰੀਆ ॥
काच गगरीआ अ्मभ मझरीआ ॥
Kaach gagree▫aa ambʰ majʰree▫aa.
The mortal is like an unbaked clay pot in water;
|
ਗਰਬਿ ਗਰਬਿ ਉਆਹੂ ਮਹਿ ਪਰੀਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
गरबि गरबि उआहू महि परीआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Garab garab u▫aahoo mėh paree▫aa. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
indulging in pride and egotism, he crumbles down and dissolves. ||1||Pause||
|
ਨਿਰਭਉ ਹੋਇਓ ਭਇਆ ਨਿਹੰਗਾ ॥
निरभउ होइओ भइआ निहंगा ॥
Nirbʰa▫o ho▫i▫o bʰa▫i▫aa nihangaa.
Being fearless, he becomes unrestrained.

ਚੀਤਿ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਕਰਤਾ ਸੰਗਾ ॥
चीति न आइओ करता संगा ॥
Cheeṫ na aa▫i▫o karṫaa sangaa.
He does not think of the Creator, who is ever with him.
|
ਲਸਕਰ ਜੋੜੇ ਕੀਆ ਸੰਬਾਹਾ ॥
लसकर जोड़े कीआ स्मबाहा ॥
Laskar joṛé kee▫aa sambaahaa.
He raises armies, and collects arms.
|
ਨਿਕਸਿਆ ਫੂਕ ਤ ਹੋਇ ਗਇਓ ਸੁਆਹਾ ॥੨॥
निकसिआ फूक त होइ गइओ सुआहा ॥२॥
Niksi▫aa fook ṫa ho▫é ga▫i▫o su▫aahaa. ||2||
But when the breath leaves him, he turns to ashes. ||2||
|
ਊਚੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਮਹਲ ਅਰੁ ਰਾਨੀ ॥
ऊचे मंदर महल अरु रानी ॥
Ooché manḋar mahal ar raanee.
He has lofty palaces, mansions and queens,
|
ਹਸਤਿ ਘੋੜੇ ਜੋੜੇ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਨੀ ॥
हसति घोड़े जोड़े मनि भानी ॥
Hasaṫ gʰoṛé joṛé man bʰaanee.
elephants and pairs of horses, delighting the mind;
|
ਵਡ ਪਰਵਾਰੁ ਪੂਤ ਅਰੁ ਧੀਆ ॥
वड परवारु पूत अरु धीआ ॥
vad parvaar pooṫ ar ḋʰee▫aa.
he is blessed with a great family of sons and daughters.
|
ਮੋਹਿ ਪਚੇ ਪਚਿ ਅੰਧਾ ਮੂਆ ॥੩॥
मोहि पचे पचि अंधा मूआ ॥३॥
Mohi paché pach anḋʰaa moo▫aa. ||3||
But, engrossed in attachment, the blind fool wastes away to death. ||3||
|
ਜਿਨਹਿ ਉਪਾਹਾ ਤਿਨਹਿ ਬਿਨਾਹਾ ॥
जिनहि उपाहा तिनहि बिनाहा ॥
Jinėh upaahaa ṫinėh binaahaa.
The One who created him destroys him.
|
ਰੰਗ ਰਸਾ ਜੈਸੇ ਸੁਪਨਾਹਾ ॥
रंग रसा जैसे सुपनाहा ॥
Rang rasaa jæsé supnaahaa.
Enjoyments and pleasures are like just a dream.
|
ਸੋਈ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਰਾਜੁ ਮਾਲੁ ॥
सोई मुकता तिसु राजु मालु ॥
So▫ee mukṫaa ṫis raaj maal.
He alone is liberated, and possesses regal power and wealth,
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਜਿਸੁ ਖਸਮੁ ਦਇਆਲੁ ॥੪॥੩੫॥੮੬॥
नानक दास जिसु खसमु दइआलु ॥४॥३५॥८६॥
Naanak ḋaas jis kʰasam ḋa▫i▫aal. ||4||35||86||
O Nanak! Whom the Lord Master blesses with His Mercy. ||4||35||86||

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:

ਇਨੑ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕਰੀ ਘਨੇਰੀ ॥
इन्ह सिउ प्रीति करी घनेरी ॥
Inĥ si▫o pareeṫ karee gʰanéree.
The mortal is in love with this,
|
ਜਉ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਤਉ ਵਧੈ ਵਧੇਰੀ ॥
जउ मिलीऐ तउ वधै वधेरी ॥
Ja▫o milee▫æ ṫa▫o vaḋʰæ vaḋʰéree.
but the more he has, the more he longs for more.
|
ਗਲਿ ਚਮੜੀ ਜਉ ਛੋਡੈ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
गलि चमड़ी जउ छोडै नाही ॥
Gal chamṛee ja▫o chʰodæ naahee.
It hangs around his neck, and does not leave him.
|
ਲਾਗਿ ਛੁਟੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥
लागि छुटो सतिगुर की पाई ॥१॥
Laag chʰuto saṫgur kee paa▫ee. ||1||
But falling at the feet of the True Guru, he is saved. ||1||
|
ਜਗ ਮੋਹਨੀ ਹਮ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥
जग मोहनी हम तिआगि गवाई ॥
Jag mohnee ham ṫi▫aag gavaa▫ee.
I have renounced and discarded Maya, the Enticer of the world.
|
ਨਿਰਗੁਨੁ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਵਜੀ ਵਧਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
निरगुनु मिलिओ वजी वधाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Nirgun mili▫o vajee vaḋʰaa▫ee. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
I have met the Absolute Lord, and congratulations are pouring in. ||1||Pause||
|
ਐਸੀ ਸੁੰਦਰਿ ਮਨ ਕਉ ਮੋਹੈ ॥
ऐसी सुंदरि मन कउ मोहै ॥
Æsee sunḋar man ka▫o mohæ.
She is so beautiful, she captivates the mind.
|
ਬਾਟਿ ਘਾਟਿ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਬਨਿ ਬਨਿ ਜੋਹੈ ॥
बाटि घाटि ग्रिहि बनि बनि जोहै ॥
Baat gʰaat garihi ban ban johæ.
On the road, and the beach, at home, in the forest and in the wilderness, she touches us.
|
ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਹੋਇ ਕੈ ਮੀਠੀ ॥
मनि तनि लागै होइ कै मीठी ॥
Man ṫan laagæ ho▫é kæ meetʰee.
She seems so sweet to the mind and body.
|
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਮੈ ਖੋਟੀ ਡੀਠੀ ॥੨॥
गुर प्रसादि मै खोटी डीठी ॥२॥
Gur parsaaḋ mæ kʰotee deetʰee. ||2||
But by Guru’s Grace, I have seen her to be deceptive. ||2||
|
ਅਗਰਕ ਉਸ ਕੇ ਵਡੇ ਠਗਾਊ ॥
अगरक उस के वडे ठगाऊ ॥
Agrak us ké vadé tʰagaa▫oo.
Her courtiers are also great deceivers.
|
ਛੋਡਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਬਾਪ ਨ ਮਾਊ ॥
छोडहि नाही बाप न माऊ ॥
Chʰodėh naahee baap na maa▫oo.
They do not spare even their fathers or mothers.
|
ਮੇਲੀ ਅਪਨੇ ਉਨਿ ਲੇ ਬਾਂਧੇ ॥
मेली अपने उनि ले बांधे ॥
Mélee apné un lé baaⁿḋʰé.
They have enslaved their companions.
|
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਮੈ ਸਗਲੇ ਸਾਧੇ ॥੩॥
गुर किरपा ते मै सगले साधे ॥३॥
Gur kirpaa ṫé mæ saglé saaḋʰé. ||3||
By Guru’s Grace, I have subjugated them all. ||3||
|
ਅਬ ਮੋਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਇਆ ਅਨੰਦ ॥
अब मोरै मनि भइआ अनंद ॥
Ab moræ man bʰa▫i▫aa anand.
Now, my mind is filled with bliss;
|
ਭਉ ਚੂਕਾ ਟੂਟੇ ਸਭਿ ਫੰਦ ॥
भउ चूका टूटे सभि फंद ॥
Bʰa▫o chookaa tooté sabʰ fanḋ.
my fear is gone, and the noose is cut away.
|
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
कहु नानक जा सतिगुरु पाइआ ॥
Kaho Naanak jaa saṫgur paa▫i▫aa.
Says Nanak, when I met the True Guru,

ਘਰੁ ਸਗਲਾ ਮੈ ਸੁਖੀ ਬਸਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੩੬॥੮੭॥
घरु सगला मै सुखी बसाइआ ॥४॥३६॥८७॥
Gʰar saglaa mæ sukʰee basaa▫i▫aa. ||4||36||87||
I came to dwell within my home in absolute peace. ||4||36||87||

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:

ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
आठ पहर निकटि करि जानै ॥
Aatʰ pahar nikat kar jaanæ.
Twenty-four hours a day, he knows the Lord to be near at hand;
|
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਕੀਆ ਮੀਠਾ ਮਾਨੈ ॥
प्रभ का कीआ मीठा मानै ॥
Parabʰ kaa kee▫aa meetʰaa maanæ.
he surrenders to the Sweet Will of God.
|
ਏਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੰਤਨ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥
एकु नामु संतन आधारु ॥
Ék naam sanṫan aaḋʰaar.
The One Name is the Support of the Saints;
|
ਹੋਇ ਰਹੇ ਸਭ ਕੀ ਪਗ ਛਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
होइ रहे सभ की पग छारु ॥१॥
Ho▫é rahé sabʰ kee pag chʰaar. ||1||
they remain the dust of the feet of all. ||1||
|
ਸੰਤ ਰਹਤ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥
संत रहत सुनहु मेरे भाई ॥
Sanṫ rahaṫ sunhu méré bʰaa▫ee.
Listen, to the way of life of the Saints, O my Siblings of Destiny;
|
ਉਆ ਕੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਕਥਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
उआ की महिमा कथनु न जाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
U▫aa kee mahimaa kaṫʰan na jaa▫ee. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
their praises cannot be described. ||1||Pause||
|
ਵਰਤਣਿ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮ ॥
वरतणि जा कै केवल नाम ॥
varṫaṇ jaa kæ kéval naam.
Their occupation is the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
|
ਅਨਦ ਰੂਪ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮ ॥
अनद रूप कीरतनु बिस्राम ॥
Anaḋ roop keerṫan bisraam.
The Kirtan, the Praise of the Lord, the embodiment of bliss, is their rest.
|
ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਸਤ੍ਰੁ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਏਕ ਸਮਾਨੈ ॥
मित्र सत्रु जा कै एक समानै ॥
Miṫar saṫar jaa kæ ék samaanæ.
Friends and enemies are one and the same to them.
|
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ॥੨॥
प्रभ अपुने बिनु अवरु न जानै ॥२॥
Parabʰ apuné bin avar na jaanæ. ||2||
They know of no other than God. ||2||
|
ਕੋਟਿ ਕੋਟਿ ਅਘ ਕਾਟਨਹਾਰਾ ॥
कोटि कोटि अघ काटनहारा ॥
Kot kot agʰ kataṇhaaraa.
They erase millions upon millions of sins.
|
ਦੁਖ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਰਨ ਜੀਅ ਕੇ ਦਾਤਾਰਾ ॥
दुख दूरि करन जीअ के दातारा ॥
Ḋukʰ ḋoor karan jee▫a ké ḋaaṫaaraa.
They dispel suffering; they are givers of the life of the soul.
|
ਸੂਰਬੀਰ ਬਚਨ ਕੇ ਬਲੀ ॥
सूरबीर बचन के बली ॥
Soorbeer bachan ké balee.
They are so brave; they are men of their word.
|
ਕਉਲਾ ਬਪੁਰੀ ਸੰਤੀ ਛਲੀ ॥੩॥
कउला बपुरी संती छली ॥३॥
Ka▫ulaa bapuree sanṫee chʰalee. ||3||
The Saints have enticed Maya herself. ||3||
|
ਤਾ ਕਾ ਸੰਗੁ ਬਾਛਹਿ ਸੁਰਦੇਵ ॥
ता का संगु बाछहि सुरदेव ॥
Ṫaa kaa sang baachʰėh surḋév.
Their company is cherished even by the gods and the angels.
|
ਅਮੋਘ ਦਰਸੁ ਸਫਲ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਸੇਵ ॥
अमोघ दरसु सफल जा की सेव ॥
Amogʰ ḋaras safal jaa kee sév.
Blessed is their Darshan, and fruitful is their service.
|
ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਰੇ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥
कर जोड़ि नानकु करे अरदासि ॥
Kar joṛ Naanak karé arḋaas.
With his palms pressed together, Nanak offers his prayer:

ਮੋਹਿ ਸੰਤਹ ਟਹਲ ਦੀਜੈ ਗੁਣਤਾਸਿ ॥੪॥੩੭॥੮੮॥
मोहि संतह टहल दीजै गुणतासि ॥४॥३७॥८८॥
Mohi sanṫėh tahal ḋeejæ guṇṫaas. ||4||37||88||
O Lord, Treasure of Excellence, please bless me with the service of the Saints. ||4||37||88||

ਸਗਲ ਸੂਖ ਜਪਿ ਏਕੈ ਨਾਮ ॥
सगल सूख जपि एकै नाम ॥
Sagal sookʰ jap ékæ naam.
All peace and comforts are in the meditation of the One Name.
|
ਸਗਲ ਧਰਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਮ ॥
सगल धरम हरि के गुण गाम ॥
Sagal ḋʰaram har ké guṇ gaam.
All righteous actions of Dharma are in the singing of the Lord’s Glorious Praises.
|
ਮਹਾ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਸਾਧ ਕਾ ਸੰਗੁ ॥
महा पवित्र साध का संगु ॥
Mahaa paviṫar saaḋʰ kaa sang.
The Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, is so very pure and sacred.
