Nānak pā▫i▫ā nām kẖajānā. ||4||27||78||
Nanak has obtained the treasure of God's Name.

आसा महला ५ ॥

Asa 5th Guru.
|
ਠਾਕੁਰ ਸਿਉ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਬਨਿ ਆਈ ॥
ठाकुर सिउ जा की बनि आई ॥
Ŧẖākur si▫o jā kī ban ā▫ī.
They who are on intimate terms with the Lord,
|
ਭੋਜਨ ਪੂਰਨ ਰਹੇ ਅਘਾਈ ॥੧॥
भोजन पूरन रहे अघाई ॥१॥
Bẖojan pūran rahe agẖā▫ī. ||1||
they remain satiated with the Name's perfect food.
|
ਕਛੂ ਨ ਥੋਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਨ ਕਉ ॥
कछू न थोरा हरि भगतन कउ ॥
Kacẖẖū na thorā har bẖagṯan ka▫o.
God's saints run short of nothing.
|
ਖਾਤ ਖਰਚਤ ਬਿਲਛਤ ਦੇਵਨ ਕਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
खात खरचत बिलछत देवन कउ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Kẖāṯ kẖarcẖaṯ bilcẖẖaṯ ḏevan ka▫o. ||1|| rahā▫o.
They have plenty to eat, spend, enjoy and give. Pause.
|
ਜਾ ਕਾ ਧਨੀ ਅਗਮ ਗੁਸਾਈ ॥
जा का धनी अगम गुसाई ॥
Jā kā ḏẖanī agam gusā▫ī.
He whose master is the unfathomable Lord of the World,
|
ਮਾਨੁਖ ਕੀ ਕਹੁ ਕੇਤ ਚਲਾਈ ॥੨॥
मानुख की कहु केत चलाई ॥२॥
Mānukẖ kī kaho keṯ cẖalā▫ī. ||2||
how long can one stand up to him.
|
ਜਾ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਦਸ ਅਸਟ ਸਿਧਾਈ ॥
जा की सेवा दस असट सिधाई ॥
Jā kī sevā ḏas asat siḏẖā▫ī.
Whom serve the eighteen miraculous powers,
|
ਪਲਕ ਦਿਸਟਿ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਲਾਗਹੁ ਪਾਈ ॥੩॥
पलक दिसटि ता की लागहु पाई ॥३॥
Palak ḏisat ṯā kī lāgahu pā▫ī. ||3||
for a moment's glance cling thou to his feet.
|
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
जा कउ दइआ करहु मेरे सुआमी ॥
Jā ka▫o ḏa▫i▫ā karahu mere su▫āmī.
He unto whom Thou showest Thy mercy,
|
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਹੀ ਤਿਨ ਕਾਮੀ ॥੪॥੨੮॥੭੯॥
कहु नानक नाही तिन कामी ॥४॥२८॥७९॥
Kaho Nānak nāhī ṯin kāmī. ||4||28||79||
O Lord, Says Nanak, he feels not deficiency of anything.

ਜਉ ਮੈ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
जउ मै अपुना सतिगुरु धिआइआ ॥
Ja▫o mai apunā saṯgur ḏẖi▫ā▫i▫ā.
When, then I meditated on my True Guru,
|
ਤਬ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਮਹਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
तब मेरै मनि महा सुखु पाइआ ॥१॥
Ŧab merai man mahā sukẖ pā▫i▫ā. ||1||
did my mind attain the supreme peace.
|
ਮਿਟਿ ਗਈ ਗਣਤ ਬਿਨਾਸਿਉ ਸੰਸਾ ॥
मिटि गई गणत बिनासिउ संसा ॥
Mit ga▫ī gaṇaṯ bināsi▫o sansā.
My account is effaced and dispelled is my doubt.
|
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਜਨ ਭਏ ਭਗਵੰਤਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
नामि रते जन भए भगवंता ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Nām raṯe jan bẖa▫e bẖagvanṯā. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Imbued with the name his slave has become a man of good fortune. Pause.
|
ਜਉ ਮੈ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਚੀਤਿ ॥
जउ मै अपुना साहिबु चीति ॥
Ja▫o mai apunā sāhib cẖīṯ.
When I remembered my Lord,
|
ਤਉ ਭਉ ਮਿਟਿਓ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੀਤ ॥੨॥
तउ भउ मिटिओ मेरे मीत ॥२॥
Ŧa▫o bẖa▫o miti▫o mere mīṯ. ||2||
then was my fear dispelled, O my friend.
|
ਜਉ ਮੈ ਓਟ ਗਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੀ ॥
जउ मै ओट गही प्रभ तेरी ॥
Ja▫o mai ot gahī parabẖ ṯerī.
When I grasped Thy protection, O Lord,
|
ਤਾਂ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਈ ਮਨਸਾ ਮੇਰੀ ॥੩॥
तां पूरन होई मनसा मेरी ॥३॥
Ŧāʼn pūran ho▫ī mansā merī. ||3||
then was my desire fulfilled.
|
ਦੇਖਿ ਚਲਿਤ ਮਨਿ ਭਏ ਦਿਲਾਸਾ ॥
देखि चलित मनि भए दिलासा ॥
Ḏekẖ cẖaliṯ man bẖa▫e ḏilāsā.
Beholding thine wonderous plays, my soul acquires patience.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਤੇਰਾ ਭਰਵਾਸਾ ॥੪॥੨੯॥੮੦॥
नानक दास तेरा भरवासा ॥४॥२९॥८०॥
Nānak ḏās ṯerā bẖarvāsā. ||4||29||80||
Servant Nanak, has Thy reliance, O my Lord.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਮੂਸਾ ਲਾਜੁ ਟੁਕਾਈ ॥
अनदिनु मूसा लाजु टुकाई ॥
An▫ḏin mūsā lāj tukā▫ī.
Night and day, the mouse gnaws the rope. (of life's span)
|
ਗਿਰਤ ਕੂਪ ਮਹਿ ਖਾਹਿ ਮਿਠਾਈ ॥੧॥
गिरत कूप महि खाहि मिठाई ॥१॥
Giraṯ kūp mėh kẖāhi miṯẖā▫ī. ||1||
Falling into the well, the mortal is eating the sweets. (of passions)
|
ਸੋਚਤ ਸਾਚਤ ਰੈਨਿ ਬਿਹਾਨੀ ॥
सोचत साचत रैनि बिहानी ॥
Socẖaṯ sācẖaṯ rain bihānī.
In thinking and reflecting the (life's) night passes away.
|
ਅਨਿਕ ਰੰਗ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਚਿਤਵਤ ਕਬਹੂ ਨ ਸਿਮਰੈ ਸਾਰਿੰਗਪਾਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
अनिक रंग माइआ के चितवत कबहू न सिमरै सारिंगपानी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Anik rang mā▫i▫ā ke cẖiṯvaṯ kabhū na simrai saringpānī. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Thinking of the multifarious pleasure of the world, man reflects not on God, the sustainer of earth. Pause.
|
ਦ੍ਰੁਮ ਕੀ ਛਾਇਆ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਬਾਂਧਿਆ ॥
द्रुम की छाइआ निहचल ग्रिहु बांधिआ ॥
Ḏarum kī cẖẖā▫i▫ā nihcẖal garihu bāʼnḏẖi▫ā.
Deeming the tree's shade as immovable, man builds his home beneath it.

ਕਾਲ ਕੈ ਫਾਂਸਿ ਸਕਤ ਸਰੁ ਸਾਂਧਿਆ ॥੨॥
काल कै फांसि सकत सरु सांधिआ ॥२॥
Kāl kai fāʼns sakaṯ sar sāʼnḏẖi▫ā. ||2||
Death's noose is around his neck and mammon has aimed her arrow at him.
|
ਬਾਲੂ ਕਨਾਰਾ ਤਰੰਗ ਮੁਖਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
बालू कनारा तरंग मुखि आइआ ॥
Bālū kanārā ṯarang mukẖ ā▫i▫ā.
The sandy shore has fallen into the mouth of the waves.
|
ਸੋ ਥਾਨੁ ਮੂੜਿ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਕਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
सो थानु मूड़ि निहचलु करि पाइआ ॥३॥
So thān mūṛ nihcẖal kar pā▫i▫ā. ||3||
That place, the fool deems as permanent.
|
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਜਪਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥
साधसंगि जपिओ हरि राइ ॥
Sāḏẖsang japi▫o har rā▫e.
In the guild of saints, I have meditated on the sovereign Lord.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥੪॥੩੦॥੮੧॥
नानक जीवै हरि गुण गाइ ॥४॥३०॥८१॥
Nānak jīvai har guṇ gā▫e. ||4||30||81||
Nanak lives by singing God's praises.

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ਦੁਤੁਕੇ ੯ ॥
आसा महला ५ दुतुके ९ ॥
Āsā mėhlā 5 ḏuṯuke 9.
Asa 5th Guru. Dutuke.
|
ਉਨ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੂ ਕਰਤੀ ਕੇਲ ॥
उन कै संगि तू करती केल ॥
Un kai sang ṯū karṯī kel.
O body, with the soul, thou art engaged in frolics.
|
ਉਨ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਹਮ ਤੁਮ ਸੰਗਿ ਮੇਲ ॥
उन कै संगि हम तुम संगि मेल ॥
Un kai sang ham ṯum sang mel.
in her company thou comest in contact with every one.
|
ਉਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੁਮ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਊ ਲੋਰੈ ॥
उन्ह कै संगि तुम सभु कोऊ लोरै ॥
Unĥ kai sang ṯum sabẖ ko▫ū lorai.
In her company every one desires thee.
|
ਓਸੁ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਊ ਮੁਖੁ ਨਹੀ ਜੋਰੈ ॥੧॥
ओसु बिना कोऊ मुखु नही जोरै ॥१॥
Os binā ko▫ū mukẖ nahī jorai. ||1||
Without her, none wishes to see thee.
|
ਤੇ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਕਹਾ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
ते बैरागी कहा समाए ॥
Ŧe bairāgī kahā samā▫e.
Where is that detached soul, now, contained?
|
ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਤੁਹੀ ਦੁਹੇਰੀ ਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
तिसु बिनु तुही दुहेरी री ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Ŧis bin ṯuhī ḏuherī rī. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Without her, thou art is in miserable plight, O body. Pause.
|
ਉਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੂ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਮਹਿ ਮਾਹਰਿ ॥
उन्ह कै संगि तू ग्रिह महि माहरि ॥
Unĥ kai sang ṯū garih mėh māhar.
With it thou wert the mistress in the house.
|
ਉਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੂ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਜਾਹਰਿ ॥
उन्ह कै संगि तू होई है जाहरि ॥
Unĥ kai sang ṯū ho▫ī hai jāhar.
With it thou didst become distinguished.
|
ਉਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੂ ਰਖੀ ਪਪੋਲਿ ॥
उन्ह कै संगि तू रखी पपोलि ॥
Unĥ kai sang ṯū rakẖī papol.
With it thou wert fondled.
|
ਓਸੁ ਬਿਨਾ ਤੂੰ ਛੁਟਕੀ ਰੋਲਿ ॥੨॥
ओसु बिना तूं छुटकी रोलि ॥२॥
Os binā ṯūʼn cẖẖutkī rol. ||2||
Without it thou hast been left to roll in dust.
|
ਉਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਮਾਨੁ ਮਹਤੁ ॥
उन्ह कै संगि तेरा मानु महतु ॥
Unĥ kai sang ṯerā mān mahaṯ.
In her company thou hast honour and respect.
|
ਉਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੁਮ ਸਾਕੁ ਜਗਤੁ ॥
उन्ह कै संगि तुम साकु जगतु ॥
Unĥ kai sang ṯum sāk jagaṯ.
In her company thou hast relation with the world.
|
ਉਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਭ ਬਿਧਿ ਥਾਟੀ ॥
उन्ह कै संगि तेरी सभ बिधि थाटी ॥
Unĥ kai sang ṯerī sabẖ biḏẖ thātī.
In her company, thou were bedecked in all the ways.
|
ਓਸੁ ਬਿਨਾ ਤੂੰ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਮਾਟੀ ॥੩॥
ओसु बिना तूं होई है माटी ॥३॥
Os binā ṯūʼn ho▫ī hai mātī. ||3||
Without her, thou hast become dust.
|
ਓਹੁ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
ओहु बैरागी मरै न जाइ ॥
Oh bairāgī marai na jā▫e.
The detached soul neither dies nor is born.
|
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਬਾਧਾ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
हुकमे बाधा कार कमाइ ॥
Hukme bāḏẖā kār kamā▫e.
It acts subject to Lord's command.
|
ਜੋੜਿ ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਥਾਪਿ ॥
जोड़ि विछोड़े नानक थापि ॥
Joṛ vicẖẖoṛe Nānak thāp.
O Nanak, having fashioned the body, the Lord unites and separates the soul from it.

ਅਪਨੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਆਪਿ ॥੪॥੩੧॥੮੨॥
अपनी कुदरति जाणै आपि ॥४॥३१॥८२॥
Apnī kuḏraṯ jāṇai āp. ||4||31||82||
His omnipotence the Lord Himself knows.
