ਤਿਨ ਕਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਥਾ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
तिन का जनम मरण दुखु लाथा ते हरि दरगह मिले सुभाइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Ŧin kā janam maraṇ ḏukẖ lāthā ṯe har ḏargėh mile subẖā▫e. ||1|| rahā▫o.
their pains of birth and death are taken away. They are automatically ushered into the Court of the Lord. ||1||Pause||

ਸਬਦੁ ਚਾਖੈ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਦੁ ਪਾਏ
सबदु चाखै साचा सादु पाए ॥
Sabaḏ cẖākẖai sācẖā sāḏ pā▫e.
One who has tasted the Shabad, obtains the true flavor.

ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ
हरि का नामु मंनि वसाए ॥
Har kā nām man vasā▫e.
The Name of the Lord abides within his mind.

ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਦਾ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ
हरि प्रभु सदा रहिआ भरपूरि ॥
Har parabẖ saḏā rahi▫ā bẖarpūr.
The Lord God is Eternal and All-pervading.

ਆਪੇ ਨੇੜੈ ਆਪੇ ਦੂਰਿ ॥੨॥
आपे नेड़ै आपे दूरि ॥२॥
Āpe neṛai āpe ḏūr. ||2||
He Himself is near, and He Himself is far away. ||2||

ਆਖਣਿ ਆਖੈ ਬਕੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ
आखणि आखै बकै सभु कोइ ॥
Ākẖaṇ ākẖai bakai sabẖ ko▫e.
Everyone talks and speaks through speech;

ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਸੋਇ
आपे बखसि मिलाए सोइ ॥
Āpe bakẖas milā▫e so▫e.
the Lord Himself forgives, and unites us with Himself.

ਕਹਣੈ ਕਥਨਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ
कहणै कथनि न पाइआ जाइ ॥
Kahṇai kathan na pā▫i▫ā jā▫e.
By merely speaking and talking, He is not obtained.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੩॥
गुर परसादि वसै मनि आइ ॥३॥
Gur parsāḏ vasai man ā▫e. ||3||
By Guru's Grace, He comes to abide in the mind. ||3||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ
गुरमुखि विचहु आपु गवाइ ॥
Gurmukẖ vicẖahu āp gavā▫e.
The Gurmukh eradicates his self-conceit from within.

ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਇ
हरि रंगि राते मोहु चुकाइ ॥
Har rang rāṯe moh cẖukā▫e.
He is imbued with the Lord's Love, having discarded worldly attachment.

ਅਤਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦ ਵੀਚਾਰ
अति निरमलु गुर सबद वीचार ॥
Aṯ nirmal gur sabaḏ vīcẖār.
He contemplates the utterly Immaculate Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰ ॥੪॥੪॥੪੩॥
नानक नामि सवारणहार ॥४॥४॥४३॥
Nānak nām savāraṇhār. ||4||4||43||
O Nanak, the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is our Salvation. ||4||4||43||

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ
आसा महला ३ ॥
Āsā mėhlā 3.
Aasaa, Third Mehl:

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਲਗੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ
दूजै भाइ लगे दुखु पाइआ ॥
Ḏūjai bẖā▫e lage ḏukẖ pā▫i▫ā.
Attached to the love of duality, one only incurs pain.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ
बिनु सबदै बिरथा जनमु गवाइआ ॥
Bin sabḏai birthā janam gavā▫i▫ā.
Without the Word of the Shabad, one's life is wasted away in vain.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੈ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਇ
सतिगुरु सेवै सोझी होइ ॥
Saṯgur sevai sojẖī ho▫e.
Serving the True Guru, understanding is obtained,

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਲਾਗੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥
दूजै भाइ न लागै कोइ ॥१॥
Ḏūjai bẖā▫e na lāgai ko▫e. ||1||
and then, one is not attached to the love of duality. ||1||

ਮੂਲਿ ਲਾਗੇ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ
मूलि लागे से जन परवाणु ॥
Mūl lāge se jan parvāṇ.
Those who hold fast to their roots, become acceptable.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
अनदिनु राम नामु जपि हिरदै गुर सबदी हरि एको जाणु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
An▫ḏin rām nām jap hirḏai gur sabḏī har eko jāṇ. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Night and day, they meditate within their hearts on the Lord's Name; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they know the One Lord. ||1||Pause||

ਡਾਲੀ ਲਾਗੈ ਨਿਹਫਲੁ ਜਾਇ
डाली लागै निहफलु जाइ ॥
Dālī lāgai nihfal jā▫e.
One who is attached to the branch, does not receive the fruits.

ਅੰਧੀ ਕੰਮੀ ਅੰਧ ਸਜਾਇ
अंधीं कमी अंध सजाइ ॥
Aʼnḏẖīʼn kammī anḏẖ sajā▫e.
For blind actions, blind punishment is received.

ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਅੰਧਾ ਠਉਰ ਪਾਇ
मनमुखु अंधा ठउर न पाइ ॥
Manmukẖ anḏẖā ṯẖa▫ur na pā▫e.
The blind, self-willed manmukh finds no place of rest.

ਬਿਸਟਾ ਕਾ ਕੀੜਾ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਪਚਾਇ ॥੨॥
बिसटा का कीड़ा बिसटा माहि पचाइ ॥२॥
Bistā kā kīṛā bistā māhi pacẖā▫e. ||2||
He is a maggot in manure, and in manure he shall rot away. ||2||

ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ
गुर की सेवा सदा सुखु पाए ॥
Gur kī sevā saḏā sukẖ pā▫e.
Serving the Guru, everlasting peace is obtained.

ਸੰਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ
संतसंगति मिलि हरि गुण गाए ॥
Sanṯsangaṯ mil har guṇ gā▫e.
Joining the True Congregation, the Sat Sangat, the Glorious Praises of the Lord are sung.

ਨਾਮੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਕਰੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ
नामे नामि करे वीचारु ॥
Nāme nām kare vīcẖār.
One who contemplates the Naam, the Name of the Lord,

ਆਪਿ ਤਰੈ ਕੁਲ ਉਧਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੩॥
आपि तरै कुल उधरणहारु ॥३॥
Āp ṯarai kul uḏẖraṇhār. ||3||
saves himself, and his family as well. ||3||

ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਜਾਏ
गुर की बाणी नामि वजाए ॥
Gur kī baṇī nām vajā▫e.
Through the Word of the Guru's Bani, the Naam resounds;

ਨਾਨਕ ਮਹਲੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਘਰੁ ਪਾਏ
नानक महलु सबदि घरु पाए ॥
Nānak mahal sabaḏ gẖar pā▫e.
O Nanak, through the Word of the Shabad, one finds the Mansion of the Lord's Presence within the home of the heart.

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਤ ਸਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਲਿ ਨਾਇਆ
गुरमति सत सरि हरि जलि नाइआ ॥
Gurmaṯ saṯ sar har jal nā▫i▫ā.
Under Guru's Instruction, bathe in the Pool of Truth, in the Water of the Lord;

ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਰਤੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੫॥੪੪॥
दुरमति मैलु सभु दुरतु गवाइआ ॥४॥५॥४४॥
Ḏurmaṯ mail sabẖ ḏuraṯ gavā▫i▫ā. ||4||5||44||
thus the filth of evil-mindedness and sin shall all be washed away. ||4||5||44||

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ
आसा महला ३ ॥
Āsā mėhlā 3.
Aasaa, Third Mehl:

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਰਹਿ ਮਰਿ ਮਰਣੁ ਵਿਗਾੜਹਿ
मनमुख मरहि मरि मरणु विगाड़हि ॥
Manmukẖ marėh mar maraṇ vigāṛėh.
The self-willed manmukhs are dying; they are wasting away in death.

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਆਤਮ ਸੰਘਾਰਹਿ
दूजै भाइ आतम संघारहि ॥
Ḏūjai bẖā▫e āṯam sangẖārėh.
In the love of duality, they murder their own souls.

ਮੇਰਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵਿਗੂਤਾ
मेरा मेरा करि करि विगूता ॥
Merā merā kar kar vigūṯā.
Crying out, "Mine, mine!", they are ruined.

ਆਤਮੁ ਚੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੈ ਭਰਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਸੂਤਾ ॥੧॥
आतमु न चीन्है भरमै विचि सूता ॥१॥
Āṯam na cẖīnĥai bẖarmai vicẖ sūṯā. ||1||
They do not remember their souls; they are asleep in superstition. ||1||

ਮਰੁ ਮੁਇਆ ਸਬਦੇ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਇ
मरु मुइआ सबदे मरि जाइ ॥
Mar mu▫i▫ā sabḏe mar jā▫e.
He alone dies a real death, who dies in the Word of the Shabad.

ਉਸਤਤਿ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਮ ਜਾਣਾਈ ਇਸੁ ਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਲਾਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਲੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
उसतति निंदा गुरि सम जाणाई इसु जुग महि लाहा हरि जपि लै जाइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Usṯaṯ ninḏā gur sam jāṇā▫ī is jug mėh lāhā har jap lai jā▫e. ||1|| rahā▫o.
The Guru has inspired me to realize, that praise and slander are one and the same; in this world, the profit is obtained by chanting the Name of the Lord. ||1||Pause||

ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹੂਣ ਗਰਭ ਗਲਿ ਜਾਇ
नाम विहूण गरभ गलि जाइ ॥
Nām vihūṇ garabẖ gal jā▫e.
Those who lack the Naam, the Name of the Lord, are dissolved within the womb.

ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਦੂਜੈ ਲੋਭਾਇ
बिरथा जनमु दूजै लोभाइ ॥
Birthā janam ḏūjai lobẖā▫e.
Useless is the birth of those who are lured by duality.

ਨਾਮ ਬਿਹੂਣੀ ਦੁਖਿ ਜਲੈ ਸਬਾਈ
नाम बिहूणी दुखि जलै सबाई ॥
Nām bihūṇī ḏukẖ jalai sabā▫ī.
Without the Naam, all are burning in pain.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੨॥
सतिगुरि पूरै बूझ बुझाई ॥२॥
Saṯgur pūrai būjẖ bujẖā▫ī. ||2||
The Perfect True Guru has given me this understanding. ||2||

ਮਨੁ ਚੰਚਲੁ ਬਹੁ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਇ
मनु चंचलु बहु चोटा खाइ ॥
Man cẖancẖal baho cẖotā kẖā▫e.
The fickle mind is struck down so many times.

ਏਥਹੁ ਛੁੜਕਿਆ ਠਉਰ ਪਾਇ
एथहु छुड़किआ ठउर न पाइ ॥
Ėthahu cẖẖuṛki▫ā ṯẖa▫ur na pā▫e.
Having lost this opportunity, no place of rest shall be found.

ਗਰਭ ਜੋਨਿ ਵਿਸਟਾ ਕਾ ਵਾਸੁ
गरभ जोनि विसटा का वासु ॥
Garabẖ jon vistā kā vās.
Cast into the womb of reincarnation, the mortal lives in manure;

ਤਿਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਕਰੇ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥੩॥
तितु घरि मनमुखु करे निवासु ॥३॥
Ŧiṯ gẖar manmukẖ kare nivās. ||3||
in such a home, the self-willed manmukh takes up residence. ||3||

ਅਪੁਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਸਦਾ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈ
अपुने सतिगुर कउ सदा बलि जाई ॥
Apune saṯgur ka▫o saḏā bal jā▫ī.
I am forever a sacrifice to my True Guru;

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ
गुरमुखि जोती जोति मिलाई ॥
Gurmukẖ joṯī joṯ milā▫ī.
the light of the Gurmukh blends with the Divine Light of the Lord.

ਨਿਰਮਲ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ
निरमल बाणी निज घरि वासा ॥
Nirmal baṇī nij gẖar vāsā.
Through the Immaculate Bani of the Word, the mortal dwells within the home of his own inner self.

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਉਦਾਸਾ ॥੪॥੬॥੪੫॥
नानक हउमै मारे सदा उदासा ॥४॥६॥४५॥
Nānak ha▫umai māre saḏā uḏāsā. ||4||6||45||
O Nanak, he conquers his ego, and remains forever detached. ||4||6||45||

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ
आसा महला ३ ॥

Aasaa, Third Mehl:

ਲਾਲੈ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਾਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ
लालै आपणी जाति गवाई ॥
Lālai āpṇī jāṯ gavā▫ī.
The Lord's slave sets aside his own social status.

ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਅਰਪੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ
तनु मनु अरपे सतिगुर सरणाई ॥
Ŧan man arpe saṯgur sarṇā▫ī.
He dedicates his mind and body to the True Guru, and seeks His Sanctuary.
