ਖਸਮ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਸੋ ਦਿਨੁ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥੨॥
खसम पछाणै सो दिनु परवाणु ॥२॥
Kẖasam pacẖẖāṇai so ḏin parvāṇ. ||2||
that day alone would be auspicious, when he recognizes his Lord and Master. ||2||

ਦਰਸਨਿ ਦੇਖਿਐ ਦਇਆ ਹੋਇ
दरसनि देखिऐ दइआ न होइ ॥
Ḏarsan ḏekẖi▫ai ḏa▫i▫ā na ho▫e.
Beholding the sight of the petitioner, compassion is not aroused.

ਲਏ ਦਿਤੇ ਵਿਣੁ ਰਹੈ ਕੋਇ
लए दिते विणु रहै न कोइ ॥
La▫e ḏiṯe viṇ rahai na ko▫e.
No one lives without give and take.

ਰਾਜਾ ਨਿਆਉ ਕਰੇ ਹਥਿ ਹੋਇ
राजा निआउ करे हथि होइ ॥
Rājā ni▫ā▫o kare hath ho▫e.
The king administers justice only if his palm is greased.

ਕਹੈ ਖੁਦਾਇ ਮਾਨੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੩॥
कहै खुदाइ न मानै कोइ ॥३॥
Kahai kẖuḏā▫e na mānai ko▫e. ||3||
No one is moved by the Name of God. ||3||

ਮਾਣਸ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ
माणस मूरति नानकु नामु ॥
Māṇas mūraṯ Nānak nām.
O Nanak, they are human beings in form and name only;

ਕਰਣੀ ਕੁਤਾ ਦਰਿ ਫੁਰਮਾਨੁ
करणी कुता दरि फुरमानु ॥
Karṇī kuṯā ḏar furmān.
by their deeds they are dogs - this is the Command of the Lord's Court.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਮਿਹਮਾਨੁ
गुर परसादि जाणै मिहमानु ॥
Gur parsāḏ jāṇai mihmān.
By Guru's Grace, if one sees himself as a guest in this world,

ਤਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਾਵੈ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੪॥੪॥
ता किछु दरगह पावै मानु ॥४॥४॥
Ŧā kicẖẖ ḏargėh pāvai mān. ||4||4||
then he gains honor in the Court of the Lord. ||4||4||

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ
आसा महला १ ॥
Āsā mėhlā 1.
Aasaa, First Mehl:

ਜੇਤਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਧੁਨਿ ਤੇਤੀ ਜੇਤਾ ਰੂਪੁ ਕਾਇਆ ਤੇਰੀ
जेता सबदु सुरति धुनि तेती जेता रूपु काइआ तेरी ॥
Jeṯā sabaḏ suraṯ ḏẖun ṯeṯī jeṯā rūp kā▫i▫ā ṯerī.
As much as the Shabad is in the mind, so much is Your melody; as much as the form of the universe is, so much is Your body, Lord.

ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਰਸਨਾ ਆਪੇ ਬਸਨਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਕਹਉ ਮਾਈ ॥੧॥
तूं आपे रसना आपे बसना अवरु न दूजा कहउ माई ॥१॥
Ŧūʼn āpe rasnā āpe basnā avar na ḏūjā kaha▫o mā▫ī. ||1||
You Yourself are the tongue, and You Yourself are the nose. Do not speak of any other, O my mother. ||1||

ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਏਕੋ ਹੈ
साहिबु मेरा एको है ॥
Sāhib merā eko hai.
My Lord and Master is One;

ਏਕੋ ਹੈ ਭਾਈ ਏਕੋ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
एको है भाई एको है ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Ėko hai bẖā▫ī eko hai. ||1|| rahā▫o.
He is the One and Only; O Siblings of Destiny, He is the One alone. ||1||Pause||

ਆਪੇ ਮਾਰੇ ਆਪੇ ਛੋਡੈ ਆਪੇ ਲੇਵੈ ਦੇਇ
आपे मारे आपे छोडै आपे लेवै देइ ॥
Āpe māre āpe cẖẖodai āpe levai ḏe▫e.
He Himself kills, and He Himself emancipates; He Himself gives and takes.

ਆਪੇ ਵੇਖੈ ਆਪੇ ਵਿਗਸੈ ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥੨॥
आपे वेखै आपे विगसै आपे नदरि करेइ ॥२॥
Āpe vekẖai āpe vigsai āpe naḏar kare▫i. ||2||
He Himself beholds, and He Himself rejoices; He Himself bestows His Glance of Grace. ||2||

ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਣਾ ਸੋ ਕਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਅਵਰੁ ਕਰਣਾ ਜਾਈ
जो किछु करणा सो करि रहिआ अवरु न करणा जाई ॥
Jo kicẖẖ karṇā so kar rahi▫ā avar na karṇā jā▫ī.
Whatever He is to do, that is what He is doing. No one else can do anything.

ਜੈਸਾ ਵਰਤੈ ਤੈਸੋ ਕਹੀਐ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੩॥
जैसा वरतै तैसो कहीऐ सभ तेरी वडिआई ॥३॥
Jaisā varṯai ṯaiso kahī▫ai sabẖ ṯerī vadi▫ā▫ī. ||3||
As He projects Himself, so do we describe Him; this is all Your Glorious Greatness, Lord. ||3||

ਕਲਿ ਕਲਵਾਲੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਦੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਮਨੁ ਮਤਵਾਲਾ ਪੀਵਤੁ ਰਹੈ
कलि कलवाली माइआ मदु मीठा मनु मतवाला पीवतु रहै ॥
Kal kalvālī mā▫i▫ā maḏ mīṯẖā man maṯvālā pīvaṯ rahai.
The Dark Age of Kali Yuga is the bottle of wine; Maya is the sweet wine, and the intoxicated mind continues to drink it in.

ਆਪੇ ਰੂਪ ਕਰੇ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਂਤੀਂ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬਪੁੜਾ ਏਵ ਕਹੈ ॥੪॥੫॥
आपे रूप करे बहु भांतीं नानकु बपुड़ा एव कहै ॥४॥५॥
Āpe rūp kare baho bẖāʼnṯīʼn Nānak bapuṛā ev kahai. ||4||5||
He Himself assumes all sorts of forms; thus poor Nanak speaks. ||4||5||

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ
आसा महला १ ॥
Āsā mėhlā 1.
Aasaa, First Mehl:

ਵਾਜਾ ਮਤਿ ਪਖਾਵਜੁ ਭਾਉ
वाजा मति पखावजु भाउ ॥
vājā maṯ pakẖāvaj bẖā▫o.
Make your intellect your instrument, and love your tambourine;

ਹੋਇ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਸਦਾ ਮਨਿ ਚਾਉ
होइ अनंदु सदा मनि चाउ ॥
Ho▫e anand saḏā man cẖā▫o.
thus bliss and lasting pleasure shall be produced in your mind.

ਏਹਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਏਹੋ ਤਪ ਤਾਉ
एहा भगति एहो तप ताउ ॥
Ėhā bẖagaṯ eho ṯap ṯā▫o.
This is devotional worship, and this is the practice of penance.

ਇਤੁ ਰੰਗਿ ਨਾਚਹੁ ਰਖਿ ਰਖਿ ਪਾਉ ॥੧॥
इतु रंगि नाचहु रखि रखि पाउ ॥१॥
Iṯ rang nācẖahu rakẖ rakẖ pā▫o. ||1||
So dance in this love, and keep the beat with your feet. ||1||

ਪੂਰੇ ਤਾਲ ਜਾਣੈ ਸਾਲਾਹ
पूरे ताल जाणै सालाह ॥
Pūre ṯāl jāṇai sālāh.
Know that the perfect beat is the Praise of the Lord;

ਹੋਰੁ ਨਚਣਾ ਖੁਸੀਆ ਮਨ ਮਾਹ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
होरु नचणा खुसीआ मन माह ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Hor nacẖṇā kẖusī▫ā man māh. ||1|| rahā▫o.
other dances produce only temporary pleasure in the mind. ||1||Pause||

ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਵਜਹਿ ਦੁਇ ਤਾਲ
सतु संतोखु वजहि दुइ ताल ॥
Saṯ sanṯokẖ vajėh ḏu▫e ṯāl.
Play the two cymbals of truth and contentment.

ਪੈਰੀ ਵਾਜਾ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਹਾਲ
पैरी वाजा सदा निहाल ॥
Pairī vājā saḏā nihāl.
Let your ankle bells be the lasting Vision of the Lord.

ਰਾਗੁ ਨਾਦੁ ਨਹੀ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ
रागु नादु नही दूजा भाउ ॥
Rāg nāḏ nahī ḏūjā bẖā▫o.
Let your harmony and music be the elimination of duality.

ਇਤੁ ਰੰਗਿ ਨਾਚਹੁ ਰਖਿ ਰਖਿ ਪਾਉ ॥੨॥
इतु रंगि नाचहु रखि रखि पाउ ॥२॥
Iṯ rang nācẖahu rakẖ rakẖ pā▫o. ||2||
So dance in this love, and keep the beat with your feet. ||2||

ਭਉ ਫੇਰੀ ਹੋਵੈ ਮਨ ਚੀਤਿ
भउ फेरी होवै मन चीति ॥
Bẖa▫o ferī hovai man cẖīṯ.
Let the fear of God within your heart and mind be your spinning dance,

ਬਹਦਿਆ ਉਠਦਿਆ ਨੀਤਾ ਨੀਤਿ
बहदिआ उठदिआ नीता नीति ॥
Bahḏi▫ā uṯẖ▫ḏi▫ā nīṯā nīṯ.
and keep up, whether sitting or standing.

ਲੇਟਣਿ ਲੇਟਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਤਨੁ ਸੁਆਹੁ
लेटणि लेटि जाणै तनु सुआहु ॥
Letaṇ let jāṇai ṯan su▫āhu.
To roll around in the dust is to know that the body is only ashes.

ਇਤੁ ਰੰਗਿ ਨਾਚਹੁ ਰਖਿ ਰਖਿ ਪਾਉ ॥੩॥
इतु रंगि नाचहु रखि रखि पाउ ॥३॥
Iṯ rang nācẖahu rakẖ rakẖ pā▫o. ||3||
So dance in this love, and keep the beat with your feet. ||3||

ਸਿਖ ਸਭਾ ਦੀਖਿਆ ਕਾ ਭਾਉ
सिख सभा दीखिआ का भाउ ॥
Sikẖ sabẖā ḏīkẖi▫ā kā bẖā▫o.
Keep the company of the disciples, the students who love the teachings.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਣਣਾ ਸਾਚਾ ਨਾਉ
गुरमुखि सुणणा साचा नाउ ॥
Gurmukẖ suṇ▫ṇā sācẖā nā▫o.
As Gurmukh, listen to the True Name.

ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਣੁ ਵੇਰਾ ਵੇਰ
नानक आखणु वेरा वेर ॥
Nānak ākẖaṇ verā ver.
O Nanak, chant it, over and over again.

ਇਤੁ ਰੰਗਿ ਨਾਚਹੁ ਰਖਿ ਰਖਿ ਪੈਰ ॥੪॥੬॥
इतु रंगि नाचहु रखि रखि पैर ॥४॥६॥
Iṯ rang nācẖahu rakẖ rakẖ pair. ||4||6||
So dance in this love, and keep the beat with your feet. ||4||6||

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ
आसा महला १ ॥

ਪਉਣੁ ਉਪਾਇ ਧਰੀ ਸਭ ਧਰਤੀ ਜਲ ਅਗਨੀ ਕਾ ਬੰਧੁ ਕੀਆ
पउणु उपाइ धरी सभ धरती जल अगनी का बंधु कीआ ॥
Pa▫uṇ upā▫e ḏẖarī sabẖ ḏẖarṯī jal agnī kā banḏẖ kī▫ā.
He created the air, and He supports the whole world; he bound water and fire together.

ਅੰਧੁਲੈ ਦਹਸਿਰਿ ਮੂੰਡੁ ਕਟਾਇਆ ਰਾਵਣੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਿਆ ਵਡਾ ਭਇਆ ॥੧॥
अंधुलै दहसिरि मूंडु कटाइआ रावणु मारि किआ वडा भइआ ॥१॥
Anḏẖulai ḏėhsir mūnd katā▫i▫ā rāvaṇ mār ki▫ā vadā bẖa▫i▫ā. ||1||
The blind, ten-headed Raavan had his heads cut off, but what greatness was obtained by killing him? ||1||

ਕਿਆ ਉਪਮਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਆਖੀ ਜਾਇ
किआ उपमा तेरी आखी जाइ ॥
Ki▫ā upmā ṯerī ākẖī jā▫e.
What Glories of Yours can be chanted?

ਤੂੰ ਸਰਬੇ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
तूं सरबे पूरि रहिआ लिव लाइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Ŧūʼn sarbe pūr rahi▫ā liv lā▫e. ||1|| rahā▫o.
You are totally pervading everywhere; You love and cherish all. ||1||Pause||

ਜੀਅ ਉਪਾਇ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਹਥਿ ਕੀਨੀ ਕਾਲੀ ਨਥਿ ਕਿਆ ਵਡਾ ਭਇਆ
जीअ उपाइ जुगति हथि कीनी काली नथि किआ वडा भइआ ॥
Jī▫a upā▫e jugaṯ hath kīnī kālī nath ki▫ā vadā bẖa▫i▫ā.
You created all beings, and You hold the world in Your Hands; what greatness is it to put a ring in the nose of the black cobra, as Krishna did?

ਕਿਸੁ ਤੂੰ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਜੋਰੂ ਕਉਣ ਕਹੀਐ ਸਰਬ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ॥੨॥
किसु तूं पुरखु जोरू कउण कहीऐ सरब निरंतरि रवि रहिआ ॥२॥
Kis ṯūʼn purakẖ jorū ka▫uṇ kahī▫ai sarab niranṯar rav rahi▫ā. ||2||
Whose Husband are You? Who is Your wife? You are subtly diffused and pervading in all. ||2||

ਨਾਲਿ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਸਾਥਿ ਵਰਦਾਤਾ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਭਾਲਣ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਗਇਆ
नालि कुट्मबु साथि वरदाता ब्रहमा भालण स्रिसटि गइआ ॥
Nāl kutamb sāth varḏāṯā barahmā bẖālaṇ sarisat ga▫i▫ā.
Brahma, the bestower of blessings, entered the stem of the lotus, with his relatives, to find the extent of the universe.

ਆਗੈ ਅੰਤੁ ਪਾਇਓ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਕੰਸੁ ਛੇਦਿ ਕਿਆ ਵਡਾ ਭਇਆ ॥੩॥
आगै अंतु न पाइओ ता का कंसु छेदि किआ वडा भइआ ॥३॥
Āgai anṯ na pā▫i▫o ṯā kā kans cẖẖeḏ ki▫ā vadā bẖa▫i▫ā. ||3||
Proceeding on, he could not find its limits; what glory was obtained by killing Kansa, the king? ||3||

ਰਤਨ ਉਪਾਇ ਧਰੇ ਖੀਰੁ ਮਥਿਆ ਹੋਰਿ ਭਖਲਾਏ ਜਿ ਅਸੀ ਕੀਆ
रतन उपाइ धरे खीरु मथिआ होरि भखलाए जि असी कीआ ॥
Raṯan upā▫e ḏẖare kẖīr mathi▫ā hor bẖakẖlā▫e jė asī kī▫ā.
The jewels were produced and brought forth by churning the ocean of milk. The other gods proclaimed "We are the ones who did this!

ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਛਪੈ ਕਿਉ ਛਪਿਆ ਏਕੀ ਏਕੀ ਵੰਡਿ ਦੀਆ ॥੪॥੭॥
कहै नानकु छपै किउ छपिआ एकी एकी वंडि दीआ ॥४॥७॥
Kahai Nānak cẖẖapai ki▫o cẖẖapi▫ā ekī ekī vand ḏī▫ā. ||4||7||
Says Nanak, by hiding, how can the Lord be hidden? He has given each their share, one by one. ||4||7||
