ਮਨਮੁਖ ਜਨਮੁ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਗਇਆ ਕਿਆ ਮੁਹੁ ਦੇਸੀ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥
Manmukẖ janam birthā ga▫i▫ā ki▫ā muhu ḏesī jā▫e. ||3||
The life of an apostate passes away in vain. What face shall he show on arrival before God?

ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਹੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਕਹਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
Sabẖ kicẖẖ āpe āp hai ha▫umai vicẖ kahan na jā▫e.
The Lord Himself is all in all. In pride man cannot utter His Name.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਣੀਐ ਦੁਖੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
Gur kai sabaḏ pacẖẖāṇī▫ai ḏukẖ ha▫umai vicẖahu gavā▫e.
Through the Guru's word is He realised and the disease of pride is eradicated from within.

ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਇ ॥
Saṯgur sevan āpṇā ha▫o ṯin kai lāga▫o pā▫e.
I fall at the feet of those who wait upon their own True Guru.

ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸਚਿਆਰ ਹਹਿ ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥੪॥੨੧॥੫੪॥
Nānak ḏar sacẖai sacẖiār hėh ha▫o ṯin balihārai jā▫o. ||4||21||54||
Nanak, I am a sacrifice unto those, who are found true in the True Court.

ਜੇ ਵੇਲਾ ਵਖਤੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੀਐ ਤਾ ਕਿਤੁ ਵੇਲਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
Je velā vakẖaṯ vīcẖārī▫ai ṯā kiṯ velā bẖagaṯ ho▫e.
If we think of the suitable time and moment, at what time, then can the worship of Lord be performed?

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੇ ਰਤਿਆ ਸਚੇ ਸਚੀ ਸੋਇ ॥
An▫ḏin nāme raṯi▫ā sacẖe sacẖī so▫e.
By remaining night and day, imbued with God's Name, the true Person has true reputation.

ਇਕੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਿਨੇਹੀ ਹੋਇ ॥
Ik ṯil pi▫ārā visrai bẖagaṯ kinehī ho▫e.
When one Forgets the Beloved even for a moment, what sort of devotional service is that?

ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਸਾਚ ਸਿਉ ਸਾਸੁ ਨ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥
Man ṯan sīṯal sācẖ si▫o sās na birthā ko▫e. ||1||
One whose soul and body are cool, with the True Name, no breath of his goes in vain.
|
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥
Mere man har kā nām ḏẖi▫ā▫e.
O my soul! meditate on the Name of God.
|
ਸਾਚੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਤਾ ਥੀਐ ਜਾ ਹਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Sācẖī bẖagaṯ ṯā thī▫ai jā har vasai man ā▫e. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Then alone the true worship is performed if God comes and dwells within man's mind. Pause.
|
ਸਹਜੇ ਖੇਤੀ ਰਾਹੀਐ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਬੀਜੁ ਪਾਇ ॥
Sėhje kẖeṯī rāhī▫ai sacẖ nām bīj pā▫e.
In mental poise, cultivate the farm and sow the seed of the True Name.

ਖੇਤੀ ਜੰਮੀ ਅਗਲੀ ਮਨੂਆ ਰਜਾ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
Kẖeṯī jammī aglī manū▫ā rajā sahj subẖā▫e.
The seedlings have luxuriantly sprouted and naturally the mind is well satisfied.
|
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਤੁ ਪੀਤੈ ਤਿਖ ਜਾਇ ॥
Gur kā sabaḏ amriṯ hai jiṯ pīṯai ṯikẖ jā▫e.
Guru's Word is Nectar by drinking which thirst is quenched.
|
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਚਿ ਰਤਾ ਸਚੇ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥
Ih man sācẖā sacẖ raṯā sacẖe rahi▫ā samā▫e. ||2||
This true soul then is dyed in the True Name and remains absorbed in the True Lord.
|
ਆਖਣੁ ਵੇਖਣੁ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਸਬਦੇ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
Ākẖaṇ vekẖaṇ bolṇā sabḏe rahi▫ā samā▫e.
In its speech, sight and utterance, this soul remains permeated in the Name.
|
ਬਾਣੀ ਵਜੀ ਚਹੁ ਜੁਗੀ ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਸੁਣਾਇ ॥
Baṇī vajī cẖahu jugī sacẖo sacẖ suṇā▫e.
Gurbani has become renowned in the four ages and it preaches nothing but Truth.

ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਰਹਿ ਗਇਆ ਸਚੈ ਲਇਆ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
Ha▫umai merā rėh ga▫i▫ā sacẖai la▫i▫ā milā▫e.
The True One merges him in Himself, whose egotism and egoism stand eliminated.

ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਮਹਲੁ ਹਦੂਰਿ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਚਿ ਰਹੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੩॥
Ŧin ka▫o mahal haḏūr hai jo sacẖ rahe liv lā▫e. ||3||
They, who remain absorbed in True Lord love, see His place just close at hand.

ਨਦਰੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਵਿਣੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
Naḏrī nām ḏẖi▫ā▫ī▫ai viṇ karmā pā▫i▫ā na jā▫e.
By God's grace, His Name is meditated upon. Without His favour, it cannot be obtained.

ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਲਹੈ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਇ ॥
Pūrai bẖāg saṯsangaṯ lahai saṯgur bẖetai jis ā▫e.
Through the perfect good luck he, meets, obtains the society of saints.
|
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੇ ਰਤਿਆ ਦੁਖੁ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
An▫ḏin nāme raṯi▫ā ḏukẖ bikẖi▫ā vicẖahu jā▫e.
By remaining imbued with God's Name, night and day, annoying evil gets dispelled from within the man.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੜਾ ਨਾਮੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥੨੨॥੫੫॥
Nānak sabaḏ milāvṛā nāme nām samā▫e. ||4||22||55||
Nanak, by merging with the Name of the Lord, one obtains union with God.

ਆਪਣਾ ਭਉ ਤਿਨ ਪਾਇਓਨੁ ਜਿਨ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
Āpṇā bẖa▫o ṯin pā▫i▫on jin gur kā sabaḏ bīcẖār.
They who deliberate over Guru's hymns are blessed by the Lord with His fear.
|
ਸਤਸੰਗਤੀ ਸਦਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੇ ਸਚੇ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਰਿ ॥
Saṯsangṯī saḏā mil rahe sacẖe ke guṇ sār.
They ever remain united with society of saints and ponder over the excellences of the True One.
|
ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਮੈਲੁ ਚੁਕਾਈਅਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
Ḏubiḏẖā mail cẖukā▫ī▫an har rākẖi▫ā ur ḏẖār.
They cast of filth of double mindedness and keep God clasped to their heart.
|
ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਚੁ ਮਨਿ ਸਚੇ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੧॥
Sacẖī baṇī sacẖ man sacẖe nāl pi▫ār. ||1||
True is their speech, true their mind and with True Lord do they bear affection.
|
ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਭਰ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
Man mere ha▫umai mail bẖar nāl.
O my mind! thou art filled with the dirt of ego.
|
ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Har nirmal saḏā sohṇā sabaḏ savāraṇhār. ||1|| rahā▫o.
The Immaculate Lord is ever beautiful. His word is the regenerator of man. Pause.
|
ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪੇ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
Sacẖai sabaḏ man mohi▫ā parabẖ āpe la▫e milā▫e.
The Lord unites with Himself those, whose soul the True Word has fascinated.
|
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੇ ਰਤਿਆ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
An▫ḏin nāme raṯi▫ā joṯī joṯ samā▫e.
Night and day, they remain imbued with God's Name and their light is absorbed in the Supreme Light.

ਜੋਤੀ ਹੂ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਪਦਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਗੁਰ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥
Joṯī hū parabẖ jāpḏā bin saṯgur būjẖ na pā▫e.
Through (inner) light alone, the Lord is revealed. Without the true Guru understanding is not procured.
|
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਆਇ ॥੨॥
Jin ka▫o pūrab likẖi▫ā saṯgur bẖeti▫ā ṯin ā▫e. ||2||
The True Guru comes and meets those, for whom there is such a pre-ordained writ.
|
ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭ ਡੁਮਣੀ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਖੁਆਇ ॥
viṇ nāvai sabẖ dumṇī ḏūjai bẖā▫e kẖu▫ā▫e.
Without the Name every one is miserable and is ruined by duality.
|
ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਘੜੀ ਨ ਜੀਵਦੀ ਦੁਖੀ ਰੈਣਿ ਵਿਹਾਇ ॥
Ŧis bin gẖaṛī na jīvḏī ḏukẖī raiṇ vihā▫e.
Without Him (the soul) cannot live in peace even for an instant and passes her night (life) in anguish.
|
ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਣਾ ਅੰਧੁਲਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
Bẖaram bẖulāṇā anḏẖulā fir fir āvai jā▫e.
The blind one, gone astray in doubt, continues coming and going over and over again
|
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪਣੀ ਆਪੇ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੩॥
Naḏar kare parabẖ āpṇī āpe la▫e milā▫e. ||3||
If the Lord shows His mercy, He blends man with Himself.6
