ਕਹਣੈ ਵਾਲੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਰਹੇ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥
कहणै वाले तेरे रहे समाइ ॥१॥
Kahṇai vāle ṯere rahe samā▫e. ||1||
Those who describe You, remain absorbed in You. ||1||

ਵਡੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਿਬਾ ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰਾ ਗੁਣੀ ਗਹੀਰਾ
वडे मेरे साहिबा गहिर ग्मभीरा गुणी गहीरा ॥
vade mere sāhibā gahir gambẖīrā guṇī gahīrā.
O my Great Lord and Master of Unfathomable Depth, You are the Ocean of Excellence.

ਕੋਈ ਜਾਣੈ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੇਤਾ ਕੇਵਡੁ ਚੀਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
कोई न जाणै तेरा केता केवडु चीरा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Ko▫ī na jāṇai ṯerā keṯā kevad cẖīrā. ||1|| rahā▫o.
No one knows the greatness of Your expanse. ||1||Pause||

ਸਭਿ ਸੁਰਤੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਕਮਾਈ
सभि सुरती मिलि सुरति कमाई ॥
Sabẖ surṯī mil suraṯ kamā▫ī.
All the contemplators met together and practiced contemplation;

ਸਭ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ
सभ कीमति मिलि कीमति पाई ॥
Sabẖ kīmaṯ mil kīmaṯ pā▫ī.
all the appraisers met together and tried to appraise You.

ਗਿਆਨੀ ਧਿਆਨੀ ਗੁਰ ਗੁਰ ਹਾਈ
गिआनी धिआनी गुर गुर हाई ॥
Gi▫ānī ḏẖi▫ānī gur gur hā▫ī.
The theologians, the meditators and the teachers of teachers

ਕਹਣੁ ਜਾਈ ਤੇਰੀ ਤਿਲੁ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੨॥
कहणु न जाई तेरी तिलु वडिआई ॥२॥
Kahaṇ na jā▫ī ṯerī ṯil vadi▫ā▫ī. ||2||
could not express even an iota of Your Greatness. ||2||

ਸਭਿ ਸਤ ਸਭਿ ਤਪ ਸਭਿ ਚੰਗਿਆਈਆ
सभि सत सभि तप सभि चंगिआईआ ॥
Sabẖ saṯ sabẖ ṯap sabẖ cẖang▫ā▫ī▫ā.
All Truth, all austerities, all goodness,

ਸਿਧਾ ਪੁਰਖਾ ਕੀਆ ਵਡਿਆਈਆਂ
सिधा पुरखा कीआ वडिआईआं ॥
Siḏẖā purkẖā kī▫ā vadi▫ā▫ī▫āʼn.
and the greatness of the Siddhas, the beings of perfect spiritual powers -

ਤੁਧੁ ਵਿਣੁ ਸਿਧੀ ਕਿਨੈ ਪਾਈਆ
तुधु विणु सिधी किनै न पाईआ ॥
Ŧuḏẖ viṇ siḏẖī kinai na pā▫ī▫ā.
without You, none has attained such spiritual powers.

ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਈਆ ॥੩॥
करमि मिलै नाही ठाकि रहाईआ ॥३॥
Karam milai nāhī ṯẖāk rahā▫ī▫ā. ||3||
They are obtained by Your Grace; their flow cannot be blocked. ||3||

ਆਖਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਕਿਆ ਬੇਚਾਰਾ
आखण वाला किआ बेचारा ॥
Ākẖaṇ vālā ki▫ā becẖārā.
What can the helpless speaker do?

ਸਿਫਤੀ ਭਰੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ
सिफती भरे तेरे भंडारा ॥
Sifṯī bẖare ṯere bẖandārā.
Your bounties are overflowing with Your Praises.

ਜਿਸੁ ਤੂੰ ਦੇਹਿ ਤਿਸੈ ਕਿਆ ਚਾਰਾ
जिसु तूं देहि तिसै किआ चारा ॥
Jis ṯūʼn ḏėh ṯisai ki▫ā cẖārā.
And the one, unto whom You give - why should he think of any other?

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੧॥
नानक सचु सवारणहारा ॥४॥१॥
Nānak sacẖ savāraṇhārā. ||4||1||
O Nanak, the True Lord is the Embellisher. ||4||1||

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ
आसा महला १ ॥
Āsā mėhlā 1.
Aasaa, First Mehl:

ਆਖਾ ਜੀਵਾ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਉ
आखा जीवा विसरै मरि जाउ ॥
Ākẖā jīvā visrai mar jā▫o.
Chanting the Name, I live; forgetting it, I die.

ਆਖਣਿ ਅਉਖਾ ਸਾਚਾ ਨਾਉ
आखणि अउखा साचा नाउ ॥
Ākẖaṇ a▫ukẖā sācẖā nā▫o.
It is so difficult to chant the True Name.

ਸਾਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਲਾਗੈ ਭੂਖ
साचे नाम की लागै भूख ॥
Sācẖe nām kī lāgai bẖūkẖ.
If someone feels hunger for the True Name,

ਤਿਤੁ ਭੂਖੈ ਖਾਇ ਚਲੀਅਹਿ ਦੂਖ ॥੧॥
तितु भूखै खाइ चलीअहि दूख ॥१॥
Ŧiṯ bẖūkẖai kẖā▫e cẖalī▫ahi ḏūkẖ. ||1||
then that hunger shall consume his pains. ||1||

ਸੋ ਕਿਉ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਇ
सो किउ विसरै मेरी माइ ॥
So ki▫o visrai merī mā▫e.
So how could I ever forget Him, O my Mother?

ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
साचा साहिबु साचै नाइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Sācẖā sāhib sācẖai nā▫e. ||1|| rahā▫o.
True is the Master, and True is His Name. ||1||Pause||

ਸਾਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਤਿਲੁ ਵਡਿਆਈ
साचे नाम की तिलु वडिआई ॥
Sācẖe nām kī ṯil vadi▫ā▫ī.
The greatness of even an iota of the True Name,

ਆਖਿ ਥਕੇ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈ
आखि थके कीमति नही पाई ॥
Ākẖ thake kīmaṯ nahī pā▫ī.
people have grown weary of trying to appraise but they have not been able to.

ਜੇ ਸਭਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਕੈ ਆਖਣ ਪਾਹਿ
जे सभि मिलि कै आखण पाहि ॥
Je sabẖ mil kai ākẖaṇ pāhi.
Even if they were all to meet together and recount them,

ਵਡਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਘਾਟਿ ਜਾਇ ॥੨॥
वडा न होवै घाटि न जाइ ॥२॥
vadā na hovai gẖāt na jā▫e. ||2||
You would not be made any greater or lesser. ||2||

ਨਾ ਓਹੁ ਮਰੈ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋਗੁ
ना ओहु मरै न होवै सोगु ॥
Nā oh marai na hovai sog.
He does not die - there is no reason to mourn.

ਦੇਂਦਾ ਰਹੈ ਚੂਕੈ ਭੋਗੁ
देंदा रहै न चूकै भोगु ॥
Ḏeʼnḏā rahai na cẖūkai bẖog.
He continues to give, but His Provisions are never exhausted.

ਗੁਣੁ ਏਹੋ ਹੋਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ
गुणु एहो होरु नाही कोइ ॥
Guṇ eho hor nāhī ko▫e.
This Glorious Virtue is His alone - no one else is like Him;

ਨਾ ਕੋ ਹੋਆ ਨਾ ਕੋ ਹੋਇ ॥੩॥
ना को होआ ना को होइ ॥३॥
Nā ko ho▫ā nā ko ho▫e. ||3||
there has never been anyone like Him, and there never shall be. ||3||

ਜੇਵਡੁ ਆਪਿ ਤੇਵਡ ਤੇਰੀ ਦਾਤਿ
जेवडु आपि तेवड तेरी दाति ॥
Jevad āp ṯevad ṯerī ḏāṯ.
As Great as You Yourself are, so Great are Your Gifts.

ਜਿਨਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਕੀਤੀ ਰਾਤਿ
जिनि दिनु करि कै कीती राति ॥
Jin ḏin kar kai kīṯī rāṯ.
It is You who created day and night as well.

ਖਸਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਹਿ ਤੇ ਕਮਜਾਤਿ
खसमु विसारहि ते कमजाति ॥
Kẖasam visārėh ṯe kamjāṯ.
Those who forget their Lord and Master are vile and despicable.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਵੈ ਬਾਝੁ ਸਨਾਤਿ ॥੪॥੨॥
नानक नावै बाझु सनाति ॥४॥२॥
Nānak nāvai bājẖ sanāṯ. ||4||2||
O Nanak, without the Name, people are wretched outcasts. ||4||2||

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ
आसा महला १ ॥
Āsā mėhlā 1.
Aasaa, First Mehl:

ਜੇ ਦਰਿ ਮਾਂਗਤੁ ਕੂਕ ਕਰੇ ਮਹਲੀ ਖਸਮੁ ਸੁਣੇ
जे दरि मांगतु कूक करे महली खसमु सुणे ॥
Je ḏar māʼngaṯ kūk kare mahlī kẖasam suṇe.
If a beggar cries out at the door, the Master hears it in His Mansion.

ਭਾਵੈ ਧੀਰਕ ਭਾਵੈ ਧਕੇ ਏਕ ਵਡਾਈ ਦੇਇ ॥੧॥
भावै धीरक भावै धके एक वडाई देइ ॥१॥
Bẖāvai ḏẖīrak bẖāvai ḏẖake ek vadā▫ī ḏe▫e. ||1||
Whether He receives him or pushes him away, it is the Gift of the Lord's Greatness. ||1||

ਜਾਣਹੁ ਜੋਤਿ ਪੂਛਹੁ ਜਾਤੀ ਆਗੈ ਜਾਤਿ ਹੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
जाणहु जोति न पूछहु जाती आगै जाति न हे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Jāṇhu joṯ na pūcẖẖahu jāṯī āgai jāṯ na he. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Recognize the Lord's Light within all, and do not consider social class or status; there are no classes or castes in the world hereafter. ||1||Pause||

ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇਇ
आपि कराए आपि करेइ ॥
Āp karā▫e āp kare▫i.
He Himself acts, and He Himself inspires us to act.

ਆਪਿ ਉਲਾਮ੍ਹ੍ਹੇ ਚਿਤਿ ਧਰੇਇ
आपि उलाम्हे चिति धरेइ ॥
Āp ulāmeĥ cẖiṯ ḏẖare▫e.
He Himself considers our complaints.

ਜਾ ਤੂੰ ਕਰਣਹਾਰੁ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ
जा तूं करणहारु करतारु ॥
Jā ṯūʼn karanhār karṯār.
Since You, O Creator Lord, are the Doer,

ਕਿਆ ਮੁਹਤਾਜੀ ਕਿਆ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
किआ मुहताजी किआ संसारु ॥२॥
Ki▫ā muhṯājī ki▫ā sansār. ||2||
why should I submit to the world? ||2||

ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਏ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ
आपि उपाए आपे देइ ॥
Āp upā▫e āpe ḏe▫e.
You Yourself created and You Yourself give.

ਆਪੇ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਨਹਿ ਕਰੇਇ
आपे दुरमति मनहि करेइ ॥
Āpe ḏurmaṯ manėh kare▫i.
You Yourself eliminate evil-mindedness;

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ
गुर परसादि वसै मनि आइ ॥
Gur parsāḏ vasai man ā▫e.
by Guru's Grace, You come to abide in our minds,

ਦੁਖੁ ਅਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੇਰਾ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥
दुखु अन्हेरा विचहु जाइ ॥३॥
Ḏukẖ anĥerā vicẖahu jā▫e. ||3||
and then, pain and darkness are dispelled from within. ||3||

ਸਾਚੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇਇ
साचु पिआरा आपि करेइ ॥
Sācẖ pi▫ārā āp kare▫i.
He Himself infuses love for the Truth.

ਅਵਰੀ ਕਉ ਸਾਚੁ ਦੇਇ
अवरी कउ साचु न देइ ॥
Avrī ka▫o sācẖ na ḏe▫e.
Unto others, the Truth is not bestowed.

ਜੇ ਕਿਸੈ ਦੇਇ ਵਖਾਣੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਆਗੈ ਪੂਛ ਲੇਇ ॥੪॥੩॥
जे किसै देइ वखाणै नानकु आगै पूछ न लेइ ॥४॥३॥
Je kisai ḏe▫e vakẖāṇai Nānak āgai pūcẖẖ na le▫e. ||4||3||
If He bestows it upon someone, says Nanak, then, in the world hereafter, that person is not called to account. ||4||3||

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ
आसा महला १ ॥
Āsā mėhlā 1.
Aasaa, First Mehl:

ਤਾਲ ਮਦੀਰੇ ਘਟ ਕੇ ਘਾਟ
ताल मदीरे घट के घाट ॥
Ŧāl maḏīre gẖat ke gẖāt.
The urges of the heart are like cymbals and ankle-bells;

ਦੋਲਕ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਾਜਹਿ ਵਾਜ
दोलक दुनीआ वाजहि वाज ॥
Ḏolak ḏunī▫ā vājėh vāj.
the drum of the world resounds with the beat.

ਨਾਰਦੁ ਨਾਚੈ ਕਲਿ ਕਾ ਭਾਉ
नारदु नाचै कलि का भाउ ॥
Nāraḏ nācẖai kal kā bẖā▫o.
Naarad dances to the tune of the Dark Age of Kali Yuga;

ਜਤੀ ਸਤੀ ਕਹ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਪਾਉ ॥੧॥
जती सती कह राखहि पाउ ॥१॥
Jaṯī saṯī kah rākẖahi pā▫o. ||1||
where can the celibates and the men of truth place their feet? ||1||

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੁ
नानक नाम विटहु कुरबाणु ॥
Nānak nām vitahu kurbāṇ.
Nanak is a sacrifice to the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਅੰਧੀ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਜਾਣੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
अंधी दुनीआ साहिबु जाणु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Anḏẖī ḏunī▫ā sāhib jāṇ. ||1|| rahā▫o.
The world is blind; our Lord and Master is All-seeing. ||1||Pause||

ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸਹੁ ਫਿਰਿ ਚੇਲਾ ਖਾਇ
गुरू पासहु फिरि चेला खाइ ॥
Gurū pāshu fir cẖelā kẖā▫e.
The disciple feeds on the Guru;

ਤਾਮਿ ਪਰੀਤਿ ਵਸੈ ਘਰਿ ਆਇ
तामि परीति वसै घरि आइ ॥
Ŧām parīṯ vasai gẖar ā▫e.
out of love for bread, he comes to dwell in his home.

ਜੇ ਸਉ ਵਰ੍ਹਿਆ ਜੀਵਣ ਖਾਣੁ
जे सउ वर्हिआ जीवण खाणु ॥
Je sa▫o var▫hi▫ā jīvaṇ kẖāṇ.
If one were to live and eat for hundreds of years,
