ਸਬਦਿ ਮੰਨਿਐ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
Sabaḏ mani▫ai gur pā▫ī▫ai vicẖahu āp gavā▫e.
By obeying Guru's directive and eradicating self-conceit from within the Great Lord is obtained.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਸਾਚੇ ਕੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
An▫ḏin bẖagaṯ kare saḏā sācẖe kī liv lā▫e.
Such a person, night and day ever lovingly performs the service of the True One.

ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥੧੯॥੫੨॥
Nām paḏārath man vasi▫ā Nānak sahj samā▫e. ||4||19||52||
The wealth of God's Name abides within his mind and he gets absorbed in the celestial bliss, O Nanak!

|
ਜਿਨੀ ਪੁਰਖੀ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਨ ਸੇਵਿਓ ਸੇ ਦੁਖੀਏ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰਿ ॥
Jinī purkẖī saṯgur na sevi▫o se ḏukẖī▫e jug cẖār.
The persons who serve not the True Guru; they shall be miserable through the four ages.
|
ਘਰਿ ਹੋਦਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਅਭਿਮਾਨਿ ਮੁਠੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ॥
Gẖar hoḏā purakẖ na pacẖẖāṇi▫ā abẖimān muṯẖe ahaʼnkār.
In their home is the Guru-Good, whom they recognise not. They are duped by ego and pride.

ਸਤਗੁਰੂ ਕਿਆ ਫਿਟਕਿਆ ਮੰਗਿ ਥਕੇ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥
Saṯgurū ki▫ā fitki▫ā mang thake sansār.
Accursed by the True Guru, they have grown weary of begging the world over.
|
ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਸੇਵਿਓ ਸਭਿ ਕਾਜ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
Sacẖā sabaḏ na sevi▫o sabẖ kāj savāraṇhār. ||1||
They have meditated not on the True Word, which nicely does all the affairs.
|
ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਵੇਖੁ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥
Man mere saḏā har vekẖ haḏūr.
O my Mind! ever see God just close-by.
|
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਰਹਰੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Janam maran ḏukẖ parharai sabaḏ rahi▫ā bẖarpūr. ||1|| rahā▫o.
(Thus) God shall annul thy pain of birth and death and thou shalt remain brimful with His Name. Pause.
|
ਸਚੁ ਸਲਾਹਨਿ ਸੇ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥
Sacẖ salāhan se sacẖe sacẖā nām aḏẖār.
They alone are true who praise the True Lord and whose sustenance is the True Name.
|
ਸਚੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵਣੀ ਸਚੇ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
Sacẖī kār kamāvṇī sacẖe nāl pi▫ār.
They do the righteous deeds and bear love to the True Name.
|
ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹੁ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
Sacẖā sāhu varaṯḏā ko▫e na metaṇhār.
The writ of the True Banker runs and there is no eraser of it.
|
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਨੀ ਕੂੜਿ ਮੁਠੇ ਕੂੜਿਆਰ ॥੨॥
Manmukẖ mahal na pā▫inī kūṛ muṯẖe kūṛi▫ār. ||2||
The wayward attain not the Lord's palace. Those liars are duped by falsehood.
|
ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਤਾ ਜਗੁ ਮੁਆ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਘੋਰ ਅੰਧਾਰੁ ॥
Ha▫umai karṯā jag mu▫ā gur bin gẖor anḏẖār.
Engrossed in conceit the world is perishing. Without the Guru, there is pitch dark.
|
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ॥
Mā▫i▫ā mohi visāri▫ā sukẖ▫ḏāṯa ḏāṯār.
Attached to mammon the world has forgotten, the Great Bestower, the Dispenser of peace.

ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਤਾ ਉਬਰਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਰਖਹਿ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
Saṯgur sevėh ṯā ubrėh sacẖ rakẖėh ur ḏẖār.
If it performs the service of the True Guru and keeps the True Being clasped to its heat, it is saved then.
|
ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਚਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥੩॥
Kirpā ṯe har pā▫ī▫ai sacẖ sabaḏ vīcẖār. ||3||
By Guru's grace alone we obtain the Lord and reflect on the True World.
|
ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਤਜਿ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥
Saṯgur sev man nirmalā ha▫umai ṯaj vikār.
If thou servest the True Guru, thy mind becomest pure and thou sheldest thy ego and evil.
|
ਆਪੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਜੀਵਤ ਮਰੈ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰ ॥
Āp cẖẖod jīvaṯ marai gur kai sabaḏ vīcẖār.
Leave thou thy self-conceit remain dead though alive and deliberate over Guru's Word.
|
ਧੰਧਾ ਧਾਵਤ ਰਹਿ ਗਏ ਲਾਗਾ ਸਾਚਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
Ḏẖanḏẖā ḏẖāvaṯ rėh ga▫e lāgā sācẖ pi▫ār.
By embracing affection for the True Being the running after worldly pursuits comes to an end.
|
ਸਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲੇ ਤਿਤੁ ਸਾਚੈ ਦਰਬਾਰਿ ॥੪॥
Sacẖ raṯe mukẖ ujle ṯiṯ sācẖai ḏarbār. ||4||
The faces of those who are imbued with Truth Become bright in that True Court.
|
ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਮੰਨਿਓ ਸਬਦਿ ਨ ਲਗੋ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
Saṯgur purakẖ na mani▫o sabaḏ na lago pi▫ār.
They, who worship not the Divine True Guru and cherish not love for the Word,

ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਜੇਤਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥
Isnān ḏān jeṯā karahi ḏūjai bẖā▫e kẖu▫ār.
in spite of their repeated ablution and almsgiving are ruined by profane love.
|
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਆਪਣੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਤਾ ਲਾਗੈ ਨਾਮ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
Har jī▫o āpṇī kirpā kare ṯā lāgai nām pi▫ār.
If Sire God shows His mercy then does man come to profess love for the Name.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਤੂ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਅਪਾਰਿ ॥੫॥੨੦॥੫੩॥
Nānak nām samāl ṯū gur kai heṯ apār. ||5||20||53||
Through the infinite Love of the Guru, O Nanak! do thou meditate on Lord's Name.

ਕਿਸੁ ਹਉ ਸੇਵੀ ਕਿਆ ਜਪੁ ਕਰੀ ਸਤਗੁਰ ਪੂਛਉ ਜਾਇ ॥
Kis ha▫o sevī ki▫ā jap karī saṯgur pūcẖẖa▫o jā▫e.
Whom shall I serve? What shall I meditate upon? I go and ask the True Guru.

ਸਤਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਲਈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
Saṯgur kā bẖāṇā man la▫ī vicẖahu āp gavā▫e.
I submit to the will of the True Guru and have expelled my self conceit from within me.
|
ਏਹਾ ਸੇਵਾ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥
Ėhā sevā cẖākrī nām vasai man ā▫e.
This is the service and meditation of the Lord by which the Name comes and dwells in my mind.

ਨਾਮੈ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਇ ॥੧॥
Nāmai hī ṯe sukẖ pā▫ī▫ai sacẖai sabaḏ suhā▫e. ||1||
Through God's Name alone happiness is obtained and the man is adorned by True Word.
|
ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਗੁ ਹਰਿ ਚੇਤਿ ॥
Man mere an▫ḏin jāg har cẖeṯ.
My mind, night and day remain wakeful and ponder over God.
|
ਆਪਣੀ ਖੇਤੀ ਰਖਿ ਲੈ ਕੂੰਜ ਪੜੈਗੀ ਖੇਤਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Āpṇī kẖeṯī rakẖ lai kūʼnj paṛaigī kẖeṯ. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Protect thy crop else the swallow shall descend on the farm. Pause.
|
ਮਨ ਕੀਆ ਇਛਾ ਪੂਰੀਆ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥
Man kī▫ā icẖẖā pūrī▫ā sabaḏ rahi▫ā bẖarpūr.
He, who is filled with God's Name, has his heart's desires fulfilled.

ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਵੇਖੈ ਸਦਾ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥
Bẖai bẖā▫e bẖagaṯ karahi ḏin rāṯī har jī▫o vekẖai saḏā haḏūr.
He, who fears, loves and serves the Lord day and night ever sees the Venerable God just close at hand.

ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਦਾ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਗਇਆ ਸਰੀਰਹੁ ਦੂਰਿ ॥
Sacẖai sabaḏ saḏā man rāṯā bẖaram ga▫i▫ā sarīrahu ḏūr.
Doubt flees away from the body of him whose soul ever remains imbued with the True Name.
|
ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਾਚਾ ਗੁਣੀ ਗਹੀਰੁ ॥੨॥
Nirmal sāhib pā▫i▫ā sācẖā guṇī gahīr. ||2||
He attains to the Immaculate Lord who is True and an Ocean of Excellences.
|
ਜੋ ਜਾਗੇ ਸੇ ਉਬਰੇ ਸੂਤੇ ਗਏ ਮੁਹਾਇ ॥
Jo jāge se ubre sūṯe ga▫e muhā▫e.
They who remain awake, are saved. They who are asleep, are plundered.
|
ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਪਛਾਣਿਓ ਸੁਪਨਾ ਗਇਆ ਵਿਹਾਇ ॥
Sacẖā sabaḏ na pacẖẖāṇi▫o supnā ga▫i▫ā vihā▫e.
They recognise not the True Name and their life passes off like a dream.5
|
ਸੁੰਞੇ ਘਰ ਕਾ ਪਾਹੁਣਾ ਜਿਉ ਆਇਆ ਤਿਉ ਜਾਇ ॥
Suñe gẖar kā pāhuṇā ji▫o ā▫i▫ā ṯi▫o jā▫e.
Like the guest of a deserted house, as he came so does he go.
