ਅੰਧਕਾਰ ਸੁਖਿ ਕਬਹਿ ਨ ਸੋਈ ਹੈ ॥
Anḏẖkār sukẖ kabėh na so▫ī hai.
In the darkness, no one can sleep in peace.
|
ਰਾਜਾ ਰੰਕੁ ਦੋਊ ਮਿਲਿ ਰੋਈ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
Rājā rank ḏo▫ū mil ro▫ī hai. ||1||
The king and the pauper both weep and cry. ||1||
|
ਜਉ ਪੈ ਰਸਨਾ ਰਾਮੁ ਨ ਕਹਿਬੋ ॥
Ja▫o pai rasnā rām na kahibo.
As long as the tongue does not chant the Lord's Name,
|
ਉਪਜਤ ਬਿਨਸਤ ਰੋਵਤ ਰਹਿਬੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Upjaṯ binsaṯ rovaṯ rahibo. ||1|| rahā▫o.
the person continues coming and going in reincarnation, crying out in pain. ||1||Pause||
|
ਜਸ ਦੇਖੀਐ ਤਰਵਰ ਕੀ ਛਾਇਆ ॥
Jas ḏekẖī▫ai ṯarvar kī cẖẖā▫i▫ā.
It is like the shadow of a tree;
|
ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਗਏ ਕਹੁ ਕਾ ਕੀ ਮਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
Parān ga▫e kaho kā kī mā▫i▫ā. ||2||
when the breath of life passes out of the mortal being, tell me, what becomes of his wealth? ||2||
|
ਜਸ ਜੰਤੀ ਮਹਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਮਾਨਾ ॥
Jas janṯī mėh jī▫o samānā.
It is like the music contained in the instrument;
|
ਮੂਏ ਮਰਮੁ ਕੋ ਕਾ ਕਰ ਜਾਨਾ ॥੩॥
Mū▫e maram ko kā kar jānā. ||3||
how can anyone know the secret of the dead? ||3||
|
ਹੰਸਾ ਸਰਵਰੁ ਕਾਲੁ ਸਰੀਰ ॥
Hansā sarvar kāl sarīr.
Like the swan on the lake, death hovers over the body.
|
ਰਾਮ ਰਸਾਇਨ ਪੀਉ ਰੇ ਕਬੀਰ ॥੪॥੮॥
Rām rasā▫in pī▫o re Kabīr. ||4||8||
Drink in the Lord's sweet elixir, Kabeer. ||4||8||

ਜੋਤਿ ਕੀ ਜਾਤਿ ਜਾਤਿ ਕੀ ਜੋਤੀ ॥
Joṯ kī jāṯ jāṯ kī joṯī.
The creation is born of the Light, and the Light is in the creation.
|
ਤਿਤੁ ਲਾਗੇ ਕੰਚੂਆ ਫਲ ਮੋਤੀ ॥੧॥
Ŧiṯ lāge kancẖū▫ā fal moṯī. ||1||
It bears two fruits: the false glass and the true pearl. ||1||
|
ਕਵਨੁ ਸੁ ਘਰੁ ਜੋ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਕਹੀਐ ॥
Kavan so gẖar jo nirbẖa▫o kahī▫ai.
Where is that home, which is said to be free of fear?
|
ਭਉ ਭਜਿ ਜਾਇ ਅਭੈ ਹੋਇ ਰਹੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Bẖa▫o bẖaj jā▫e abẖai ho▫e rahī▫ai. ||1|| rahā▫o.
There, fear is dispelled and one lives without fear. ||1||Pause||
|
ਤਟਿ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਹੀ ਮਨੁ ਪਤੀਆਇ ॥
Ŧat ṯirath nahī man paṯī▫ā▫e.
On the banks of sacred rivers, the mind is not appeased.
|
ਚਾਰ ਅਚਾਰ ਰਹੇ ਉਰਝਾਇ ॥੨॥
Cẖār acẖār rahe urjẖā▫e. ||2||
People remain entangled in good and bad deeds. ||2||
|
ਪਾਪ ਪੁੰਨ ਦੁਇ ਏਕ ਸਮਾਨ ॥
Pāp punn ḏu▫e ek samān.
Sin and virtue are both the same.
|
ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਪਾਰਸੁ ਤਜਹੁ ਗੁਨ ਆਨ ॥੩॥
Nij gẖar pāras ṯajahu gun ān. ||3||
In the home of your own being, is the Philosopher's Stone; renounce your search for any other virtue. ||3||
|
ਕਬੀਰ ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਨਾਮ ਨ ਰੋਸੁ ॥
Kabīr nirguṇ nām na ros.
Kabeer: O worthless mortal, do not lose the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
|
ਇਸੁ ਪਰਚਾਇ ਪਰਚਿ ਰਹੁ ਏਸੁ ॥੪॥੯॥
Is parcẖā▫e paracẖ rahu es. ||4||9||
Keep this mind of yours involved in this involvement. ||4||9||
|
ਗਉੜੀ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ॥
Ga▫oṛī Kabīr jī.
Gauree, Kabeer Jee:
|
ਜੋ ਜਨ ਪਰਮਿਤਿ ਪਰਮਨੁ ਜਾਨਾ ॥
Jo jan parmiṯ parman jānā.
He claims to know the Lord, who is beyond measure and beyond thought;
|
ਬਾਤਨ ਹੀ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਸਮਾਨਾ ॥੧॥
Bāṯan hī baikunṯẖ samānā. ||1||
by mere words, he plans to enter heaven. ||1||
|
ਨਾ ਜਾਨਾ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਕਹਾ ਹੀ ॥
Nā jānā baikunṯẖ kahā hī.
I do not know where heaven is.
|
ਜਾਨੁ ਜਾਨੁ ਸਭਿ ਕਹਹਿ ਤਹਾ ਹੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Jān jān sabẖ kahėh ṯahā hī. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Everyone claims that he plans to go there. ||1||Pause||
|
ਕਹਨ ਕਹਾਵਨ ਨਹ ਪਤੀਅਈ ਹੈ ॥
Kahan kahāvan nah paṯī▫a▫ī hai.
By mere talk, the mind is not appeased.
|
ਤਉ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨੈ ਜਾ ਤੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਈ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
Ŧa▫o man mānai jā ṯe ha▫umai ja▫ī hai. ||2||
The mind is only appeased, when egotism is conquered. ||2||
|
ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਮਨਿ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਕੀ ਆਸ ॥
Jab lag man baikunṯẖ kī ās.
As long as the mind is filled with the desire for heaven,
|
ਤਬ ਲਗੁ ਹੋਇ ਨਹੀ ਚਰਨ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥੩॥
Ŧab lag ho▫e nahī cẖaran nivās. ||3||
he does not dwell at the Lord's Feet. ||3||
|
ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਇਹ ਕਹੀਐ ਕਾਹਿ ॥
Kaho Kabīr ih kahī▫ai kāhi.
Says Kabeer, unto whom should I tell this?
|
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਬੈਕੁੰਠੈ ਆਹਿ ॥੪॥੧੦॥
Sāḏẖsangaṯ baikunṯẖe āhi. ||4||10||
The Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, is heaven. ||4||10||

ਗਉੜੀ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ॥

Gauree, Kabeer Jee:

ਉਪਜੈ ਨਿਪਜੈ ਨਿਪਜਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥
Upjai nipjai nipaj samā▫ī.
We are born, and we grow, and having grown, we pass away.
|
ਨੈਨਹ ਦੇਖਤ ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥
Nainah ḏekẖaṯ ih jag jā▫ī. ||1||
Before our very eyes, this world is passing away. ||1||
|
ਲਾਜ ਨ ਮਰਹੁ ਕਹਹੁ ਘਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
Lāj na marahu kahhu gẖar merā.
How can you not die of shame, claiming, "This world is mine"?
|
ਅੰਤ ਕੀ ਬਾਰ ਨਹੀ ਕਛੁ ਤੇਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Anṯ kī bār nahī kacẖẖ ṯerā. ||1|| rahā▫o.
At the very last moment, nothing is yours. ||1||Pause||
|
ਅਨਿਕ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਿ ਕਾਇਆ ਪਾਲੀ ॥
Anik jaṯan kar kā▫i▫ā pālī.
Trying various methods, you cherish your body,
|
ਮਰਤੀ ਬਾਰ ਅਗਨਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਜਾਲੀ ॥੨॥
Marṯī bār agan sang jālī. ||2||
but at the time of death, it is burned in the fire. ||2||
|
ਚੋਆ ਚੰਦਨੁ ਮਰਦਨ ਅੰਗਾ ॥
Cẖo▫ā cẖanḏan marḏan angā.
You apply sandalwood oil to your limbs,
|
ਸੋ ਤਨੁ ਜਲੈ ਕਾਠ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਾ ॥੩॥
So ṯan jalai kāṯẖ kai sangā. ||3||
but that body is burned with the firewood. ||3||
|
ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਰੇ ਗੁਨੀਆ ॥
Kaho Kabīr sunhu re gunī▫ā.
Says Kabeer, listen, O virtuous people:

ਬਿਨਸੈਗੋ ਰੂਪੁ ਦੇਖੈ ਸਭ ਦੁਨੀਆ ॥੪॥੧੧॥
Binsaigo rūp ḏekẖai sabẖ ḏunī▫ā. ||4||11||
your beauty shall vanish, as the whole world watches. ||4||11||

ਗਉੜੀ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ॥

ਅਵਰ ਮੂਏ ਕਿਆ ਸੋਗੁ ਕਰੀਜੈ ॥
Avar mū▫e ki▫ā sog karījai.
Why do you cry and mourn, when another person dies?
|
ਤਉ ਕੀਜੈ ਜਉ ਆਪਨ ਜੀਜੈ ॥੧॥
Ŧa▫o kījai ja▫o āpan jījai. ||1||
Do so only if you yourself are to live. ||1||
|
ਮੈ ਨ ਮਰਉ ਮਰਿਬੋ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
Mai na mara▫o maribo sansārā.
I shall not die as the rest of the world dies,
|
ਅਬ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਹੈ ਜੀਆਵਨਹਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Ab mohi mili▫o hai jī▫āvanhārā. ||1|| rahā▫o.
for now I have met the life-giving Lord. ||1||Pause||
|
ਇਆ ਦੇਹੀ ਪਰਮਲ ਮਹਕੰਦਾ ॥
I▫ā ḏehī parmal mahkanḏā.
People anoint their bodies with fragrant oils,
|
ਤਾ ਸੁਖ ਬਿਸਰੇ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦਾ ॥੨॥
Ŧā sukẖ bisre parmānanḏā. ||2||
and in that pleasure, they forget the supreme bliss. ||2||
|
ਕੂਅਟਾ ਏਕੁ ਪੰਚ ਪਨਿਹਾਰੀ ॥
Kū▫atā ek pancẖ panihārī.
There is one well, and five water-carriers.
|
ਟੂਟੀ ਲਾਜੁ ਭਰੈ ਮਤਿ ਹਾਰੀ ॥੩॥
Tūtī lāj bẖarai maṯ hārī. ||3||
Even though the rope is broken, the fools continue trying to draw water. ||3||
|
ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਇਕ ਬੁਧਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥
Kaho Kabīr ik buḏẖ bīcẖārī.
Says Kabeer, through contemplation, I have obtained this one understanding.

ਨਾ ਓਹੁ ਕੂਅਟਾ ਨਾ ਪਨਿਹਾਰੀ ॥੪॥੧੨॥
Nā oh kū▫atā nā panihārī. ||4||12||
There is no well, and no water-carrier. ||4||12||

ਅਸਥਾਵਰ ਜੰਗਮ ਕੀਟ ਪਤੰਗਾ ॥
Asthāvar jangam kīt paṯangā.
The mobile and immobile creatures, insects and moths -
|
ਅਨਿਕ ਜਨਮ ਕੀਏ ਬਹੁ ਰੰਗਾ ॥੧॥
Anik janam kī▫e baho rangā. ||1||
in numerous lifetimes, I have passed through those many forms. ||1||
|
ਐਸੇ ਘਰ ਹਮ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਬਸਾਏ ॥
Aise gẖar ham bahuṯ basā▫e.
I lived in many such homes, O Lord,
|
