ਹਰਿ ਅੰਦਰਲਾ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੰਚਾ ਨੋ ਉਘਾ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖਾਲਿਆ ॥
हरि अंदरला पापु पंचा नो उघा करि वेखालिआ ॥
Har anḏarlā pāp pancẖā no ugẖā kar vekẖāli▫ā.
The Lord has exposed the penitent's secret sin to the elders.

ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ਜਮਕੰਕਰਾ ਨੋ ਆਖਿ ਛਡਿਆ ਏਸੁ ਤਪੇ ਨੋ ਤਿਥੈ ਖੜਿ ਪਾਇਹੁ ਜਿਥੈ ਮਹਾ ਮਹਾਂ ਹਤਿਆਰਿਆ ॥
धरम राइ जमकंकरा नो आखि छडिआ एसु तपे नो तिथै खड़ि पाइहु जिथै महा महां हतिआरिआ ॥
Ḏẖaram rā▫e jamkankrā no ākẖ cẖẖadi▫ā es ṯape no ṯithai kẖaṛ pā▫ihu jithai mahā mahāʼn haṯi▫āri▫ā.
The Righteous Judge of Dharma said to the Messenger of Death, "Take this penitent and put him with the worst of the worst murderers".

ਫਿਰਿ ਏਸੁ ਤਪੇ ਦੈ ਮੁਹਿ ਕੋਈ ਲਗਹੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਏਹੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਹੈ ਫਿਟਕਾਰਿਆ ॥
फिरि एसु तपे दै मुहि कोई लगहु नाही एहु सतिगुरि है फिटकारिआ ॥
Fir es ṯape ḏai muhi ko▫ī lagahu nāhī ehu saṯgur hai fitkāri▫ā.
No one is to look at the face of this penitent again. He has been cursed by the True Guru.

ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਦਰਿ ਵਰਤਿਆ ਸੁ ਨਾਨਕਿ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ॥
हरि कै दरि वरतिआ सु नानकि आखि सुणाइआ ॥
Har kai ḏar varṯi▫ā so Nānak ākẖ suṇā▫i▫ā.
Nanak speaks and reveals what has taken place in the Court of the Lord.

ਸੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਜੁ ਦਯਿ ਸਵਾਰਿਆ ॥੧॥
सो बूझै जु दयि सवारिआ ॥१॥
So būjẖai jo ḏa▫yi savāri▫ā. ||1||
He alone understands, who is blessed and adorned by the Lord. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਹਰਿ ਆਰਾਧਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
हरि भगतां हरि आराधिआ हरि की वडिआई ॥
Har bẖagṯāʼn har ārāḏẖi▫ā har kī vadi▫ā▫ī.
The devotees of the Lord worship and adore the Lord, and the glorious greatness of the Lord.

ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਭਗਤ ਨਿਤ ਗਾਂਵਦੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ॥
हरि कीरतनु भगत नित गांवदे हरि नामु सुखदाई ॥
Har kīrṯan bẖagaṯ niṯ gāʼnvḏe har nām sukẖ▫ḏā▫ī.
The Lord's devotees continually sing the Kirtan of His Praises; the Name of the Lord is the Giver of peace.

ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੋ ਨਿਤ ਨਾਵੈ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਬਖਸੀਅਨੁ ਨਿਤ ਚੜੈ ਸਵਾਈ ॥
हरि भगतां नो नित नावै दी वडिआई बखसीअनु नित चड़ै सवाई ॥
Har bẖagṯāʼn no niṯ nāvai ḏī vadi▫ā▫ī bakẖsī▫an niṯ cẖaṛai savā▫ī.
The Lord ever bestows upon His devotees the glorious greatness of His Name, which increases day by day.

ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੋ ਥਿਰੁ ਘਰੀ ਬਹਾਲਿਅਨੁ ਅਪਣੀ ਪੈਜ ਰਖਾਈ ॥
हरि भगतां नो थिरु घरी बहालिअनु अपणी पैज रखाई ॥
Har bẖagṯāʼn no thir gẖarī bahāli▫an apṇī paij rakẖā▫ī.
The Lord inspires His devotees to sit, steady and stable, in the home of their inner being. He preserves their honor.

ਨਿੰਦਕਾਂ ਪਾਸਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗਸੀ ਬਹੁ ਦੇਇ ਸਜਾਈ ॥
निंदकां पासहु हरि लेखा मंगसी बहु देइ सजाई ॥
Ninḏkāʼn pāshu har lekẖā mangsī baho ḏe▫e sajā▫ī.
The Lord summons the slanderers to answer for their accounts, and He punishes them severely.

ਜੇਹਾ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਅਪਣੈ ਜੀਇ ਕਮਾਵਦੇ ਤੇਹੋ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਈ ॥
जेहा निंदक अपणै जीइ कमावदे तेहो फलु पाई ॥
Jehā ninḏak apṇai jī▫e kamāvḏe ṯeho fal pā▫ī.
As the slanderers think of acting, so are the fruits they obtain.
|
ਅੰਦਰਿ ਕਮਾਣਾ ਸਰਪਰ ਉਘੜੈ ਭਾਵੈ ਕੋਈ ਬਹਿ ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਕਮਾਈ ॥
अंदरि कमाणा सरपर उघड़ै भावै कोई बहि धरती विचि कमाई ॥
Anḏar kamāṇā sarpar ugẖ▫ṛai bẖāvai ko▫ī bahi ḏẖarṯī vicẖ kamā▫ī.
Actions done in secrecy are sure to come to light, even if one does it underground.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਵਿਗਸਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੨॥
जन नानकु देखि विगसिआ हरि की वडिआई ॥२॥
Jan Nānak ḏekẖ vigsi▫ā har kī vadi▫ā▫ī. ||2||
Servant Nanak blossoms forth in joy, beholding the glorious greatness of the Lord. ||2||

ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਕਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਹੈ ਕਿਆ ਪਾਪੀ ਕਰੀਐ ॥
भगत जनां का राखा हरि आपि है किआ पापी करीऐ ॥
Bẖagaṯ janāʼn kā rākẖā har āp hai ki▫ā pāpī karī▫ai.
The Lord Himself is the Protector of His devotees; what can the sinner do to them?
|
ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਮੂੜ ਗੁਮਾਨੀਆ ਵਿਸੁ ਖਾਧੀ ਮਰੀਐ ॥
गुमानु करहि मूड़ गुमानीआ विसु खाधी मरीऐ ॥
Gumān karahi mūṛ gumānī▫ā vis kẖāḏẖī marī▫ai.
The proud fool acts in pride, and eating his own poison, he dies.
|
ਆਇ ਲਗੇ ਨੀ ਦਿਹ ਥੋੜੜੇ ਜਿਉ ਪਕਾ ਖੇਤੁ ਲੁਣੀਐ ॥
आइ लगे नी दिह थोड़ड़े जिउ पका खेतु लुणीऐ ॥
Ā▫e lage nī ḏih thoṛ▫ṛe ji▫o pakā kẖeṯ luṇī▫ai.
His few days have come to an end, and he is cut down like the crop at harvest.

ਜੇਹੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਦੇ ਤੇਵੇਹੋ ਭਣੀਐ ॥
जेहे करम कमावदे तेवेहो भणीऐ ॥
Jehe karam kamāvḏe ṯeveho bẖaṇī▫ai.
According to one's actions, so is one spoken of.
|
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਵਡਾ ਹੈ ਸਭਨਾ ਦਾ ਧਣੀਐ ॥੩੦॥
जन नानक का खसमु वडा है सभना दा धणीऐ ॥३०॥
Jan Nānak kā kẖasam vadā hai sabẖnā ḏā ḏẖaṇī▫ai. ||30||
Glorious and great is the Lord and Master of servant Nanak; He is the Master of all. ||30||

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੂਲਹੁ ਭੁਲਿਆ ਵਿਚਿ ਲਬੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ॥
मनमुख मूलहु भुलिआ विचि लबु लोभु अहंकारु ॥
Manmukẖ mūlhu bẖuli▫ā vicẖ lab lobẖ ahaʼnkār.
The self-willed manmukhs forget the Primal Lord, the Source of all; they are caught in greed and egotism.

ਝਗੜਾ ਕਰਦਿਆ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਗੁਦਰੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਨ ਕਰਹਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
झगड़ा करदिआ अनदिनु गुदरै सबदि न करहि वीचारु ॥
Jẖagṛā karḏi▫ā an▫ḏin guḏrai sabaḏ na karahi vīcẖār.
They pass their nights and days in conflict and struggle; they do not contemplate the Word of the Shabad.

ਸੁਧਿ ਮਤਿ ਕਰਤੈ ਸਭ ਹਿਰਿ ਲਈ ਬੋਲਨਿ ਸਭੁ ਵਿਕਾਰੁ ॥
सुधि मति करतै सभ हिरि लई बोलनि सभु विकारु ॥
Suḏẖ maṯ karṯai sabẖ hir la▫ī bolan sabẖ vikār.
The Creator has taken away all their understanding and purity; all their speech is evil and corrupt.

ਦਿਤੈ ਕਿਤੈ ਨ ਸੰਤੋਖੀਅਹਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤਿਸਨਾ ਬਹੁ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਅੰਧ੍ਯ੍ਯਾਰੁ ॥
दितै कितै न संतोखीअहि अंतरि तिसना बहु अगिआनु अंध्यारु ॥
Ḏiṯai kiṯai na sanṯokẖī▫ah anṯar ṯisnā baho agi▫ān anḏẖ▫yār.
No matter what they are given, they are not satisfied; within their hearts there is great desire, ignorance and darkness.

ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਮੁਖਾ ਨਾਲੋ ਤੁਟੀ ਭਲੀ ਜਿਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੧॥
नानक मनमुखा नालो तुटी भली जिन माइआ मोह पिआरु ॥१॥
Nānak manmukẖā nālo ṯutī bẖalī jin mā▫i▫ā moh pi▫ār. ||1||
O Nanak, it is good to break away from the self-willed manmukhs, who have love and attachment to Maya. ||1||

Fourth Mehl:

ਜਿਨਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਹੈ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
जिना अंदरि दूजा भाउ है तिन्हा गुरमुखि प्रीति न होइ ॥
Jinā anḏar ḏūjā bẖā▫o hai ṯinĥā gurmukẖ parīṯ na ho▫e.
Those whose hearts are filled with the love of duality, do not love the Gurmukhs.

ਓਹੁ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ਭਵਾਈਐ ਸੁਪਨੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
ओहु आवै जाइ भवाईऐ सुपनै सुखु न कोइ ॥
Ohu āvai jā▫e bẖavā▫ī▫ai supnai sukẖ na ko▫e.
They come and go, and wander in reincarnation; even in their dreams, they find no peace.

ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਕੂੜੁ ਉਚਰੈ ਕੂੜਿ ਲਗਿਆ ਕੂੜੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
कूड़ु कमावै कूड़ु उचरै कूड़ि लगिआ कूड़ु होइ ॥
Kūṛ kamāvai kūṛ ucẖrai kūṛ lagi▫ā kūṛ ho▫e.
They practice falsehood and they speak falsehood; attached to falsehood, they become false.

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਦੁਖਿ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਰੋਇ ॥
माइआ मोहु सभु दुखु है दुखि बिनसै दुखु रोइ ॥
Mā▫i▫ā moh sabẖ ḏukẖ hai ḏukẖ binsai ḏukẖ ro▫e.
The love of Maya is total pain; in pain they perish, and in pain they cry out.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਧਾਤੁ ਲਿਵੈ ਜੋੜੁ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਜੇ ਲੋਚੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
नानक धातु लिवै जोड़ु न आवई जे लोचै सभु कोइ ॥
Nānak ḏẖāṯ livai joṛ na āvī je locẖai sabẖ ko▫e.
O Nanak, there can be no union between the love of worldliness and the love of the Lord, no matter how much everyone may desire it.
|
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਪੋਤੈ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਪਇਆ ਤਿਨਾ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
जिन कउ पोतै पुंनु पइआ तिना गुर सबदी सुखु होइ ॥२॥
Jin ka▫o poṯai punn pa▫i▫ā ṯinā gur sabḏī sukẖ ho▫e. ||2||
Those who have the treasure of virtuous deeds find peace through the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||2||

ਨਾਨਕ ਵੀਚਾਰਹਿ ਸੰਤ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨਾਂ ਚਾਰਿ ਵੇਦ ਕਹੰਦੇ ॥
नानक वीचारहि संत मुनि जनां चारि वेद कहंदे ॥
Nānak vicẖārėh sanṯ mun janāʼn cẖār veḏ kahanḏe.
O Nanak, the Saints and the silent sages think, and the four Vedas proclaim,

ਭਗਤ ਮੁਖੈ ਤੇ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਸੇ ਵਚਨ ਹੋਵੰਦੇ ॥
भगत मुखै ते बोलदे से वचन होवंदे ॥
Bẖagaṯ mukẖai ṯe bolḏe se vacẖan hovanḏe.
that whatever the Lord's devotees speak comes to pass.
|
ਪਰਗਟ ਪਾਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਪਦੇ ਸਭਿ ਲੋਕ ਸੁਣੰਦੇ ॥
परगट पाहारै जापदे सभि लोक सुणंदे ॥
Pargat pahārai jāpḏe sabẖ lok suṇanḏe.
He is revealed in His cosmic workshop; all people hear of it.
|
ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਨਿ ਮੁਗਧ ਨਰ ਸੰਤ ਨਾਲਿ ਖਹੰਦੇ ॥
सुखु न पाइनि मुगध नर संत नालि खहंदे ॥
Sukẖ na pā▫in mugaḏẖ nar sanṯ nāl kẖahanḏe.
The foolish people, who fight with the Saints, find no peace.
|
ਓਇ ਲੋਚਨਿ ਓਨਾ ਗੁਣਾ ਨੋ ਓਇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ਸੜੰਦੇ ॥
ओइ लोचनि ओना गुणा नो ओइ अहंकारि सड़ंदे ॥
O▫e locẖan onā guṇā no o▫e ahaʼnkār saṛanḏe.
The Saints seek to bless them with virtue, but they are burning with egotism.
|
ਓਇ ਵੇਚਾਰੇ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਹਿ ਜਾਂ ਭਾਗ ਧੁਰਿ ਮੰਦੇ ॥
ओइ वेचारे किआ करहि जां भाग धुरि मंदे ॥
O▫e vecẖāre ki▫ā karahi jāʼn bẖāg ḏẖur manḏe.
What can those wretched ones do? Their evil destiny was pre-ordained.
