ਸੁਣਿਐ ਦੂਖ ਪਾਪ ਕਾ ਨਾਸੁ ॥੯॥
सुणिऐ दूख पाप का नासु ॥९॥
Suṇi▫æ ḋookʰ paap kaa naas. ||9||
By hearing the Lord’s Name disease and wickedness are wiped off.
|
ਸੁਣਿਐ ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
सुणिऐ सतु संतोखु गिआनु ॥
Suṇi▫æ saṫ sanṫokʰ gi▫aan.
By hearkening to the Lord’s Name truthfulness, contentment and Divine Knowledge are obtained.

ਸੁਣਿਐ ਅਠਸਠਿ ਕਾ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ॥
सुणिऐ अठसठि का इसनानु ॥
Suṇi▫æ atʰsatʰ kaa isnaan.
By hearing the Lord’s Name the fruit of the ablution at sixty-eight holies is attained.

ਸੁਣਿਐ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮਾਨੁ ॥
सुणिऐ पड़ि पड़ि पावहि मानु ॥
Suṇi▫æ paṛ paṛ paavahi maan.
By hearing and constantly reading God’s Name man gains honour.
|
ਸੁਣਿਐ ਲਾਗੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥
सुणिऐ लागै सहजि धिआनु ॥
Suṇi▫æ laagæ sahj ḋʰi▫aan.
By hearing the Name, man easily procures the Lord’s meditation.

ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤਾ ਸਦਾ ਵਿਗਾਸੁ ॥
नानक भगता सदा विगासु ॥
Naanak bʰagṫaa saḋaa vigaas.
Ever blissful are the saints, O Nanak!
|

सुणिऐ सरा गुणा के गाह ॥
Suṇi▫æ saraa guṇaa ké gaah.
By hearing the Lord’s Name man dives deep into the oceans of virtues.

ਸੁਣਿਐ ਸੇਖ ਪੀਰ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹ ॥
सुणिऐ सेख पीर पातिसाह ॥
Suṇi▫æ sékʰ peer paaṫisaah.
The hearkening of the Lord’s Name renders the mortal a scholar, spiritual guide and a monarch.

ਸੁਣਿਐ ਅੰਧੇ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਰਾਹੁ ॥
सुणिऐ अंधे पावहि राहु ॥
Suṇi▫æ anḋʰé paavahi raahu.
By hearing the Master’s Name the blind find their way.
|
ਸੁਣਿਐ ਹਾਥ ਹੋਵੈ ਅਸਗਾਹੁ ॥
सुणिऐ हाथ होवै असगाहु ॥
Suṇi▫æ haaṫʰ hovæ asgaahu.
By hearing the Master’s Name the unfathomable Lord becomes fathomable.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤਾ ਸਦਾ ਵਿਗਾਸੁ ॥
नानक भगता सदा विगासु ॥
Naanak bʰagṫaa saḋaa vigaas.
Ever blissful are the saints, O Nanak!

ਮੰਨੇ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
मंने की गति कही न जाइ ॥
Manné kee gaṫ kahee na jaa▫é.
The condition of the mortal who obeys the Lord cannot by described.
|
ਜੇ ਕੋ ਕਹੈ ਪਿਛੈ ਪਛੁਤਾਇ ॥
जे को कहै पिछै पछुताइ ॥
Jé ko kahæ pichʰæ pachʰuṫaa▫é.
If someone tries to describe he repents afterwards.
|
ਕਾਗਦਿ ਕਲਮ ਨ ਲਿਖਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
कागदि कलम न लिखणहारु ॥
Kaagaḋ kalam na likʰaṇhaar.
There is no paper, pen, and scribe,
|
ਮੰਨੇ ਕਾ ਬਹਿ ਕਰਨਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
मंने का बहि करनि वीचारु ॥
Manné kaa bahi karan veechaar.
with whom to sit and write over (reflect) the state of God’s obeyer.
|
ਐਸਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
ऐसा नामु निरंजनु होइ ॥
Æsaa naam niranjan ho▫é.
Such is the Name of the immaculate Lord.
|
ਜੇ ਕੋ ਮੰਨਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਮਨਿ ਕੋਇ ॥੧੨॥
जे को मंनि जाणै मनि कोइ ॥१२॥
Jé ko man jaaṇæ man ko▫é. ||12||
if some one obeys God, such a solitary being understands the bliss there of in his very mind.
|
ਮੰਨੈ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਮਨਿ ਬੁਧਿ ॥
मंनै सुरति होवै मनि बुधि ॥
Mannæ suraṫ hovæ man buḋʰ.
By truly believing in the Lord’s Name Divine comprehension enters man’s mind and understanding.
|
ਮੰਨੈ ਸਗਲ ਭਵਣ ਕੀ ਸੁਧਿ ॥
मंनै सगल भवण की सुधि ॥
Mannæ sagal bʰavaṇ kee suḋʰ.
By truly believing in God’s Name the Knowledge of all the spheres is acquired.
|
ਮੰਨੈ ਮੁਹਿ ਚੋਟਾ ਨਾ ਖਾਇ ॥
मंनै मुहि चोटा ना खाइ ॥
Mannæ muhi chotaa naa kʰaa▫é.
The worshiper of God suffers not blows on his face.
|
ਮੰਨੈ ਜਮ ਕੈ ਸਾਥਿ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
मंनै जम कै साथि न जाइ ॥
Mannæ jam kæ saaṫʰ na jaa▫é.
Through inner belief in the Lord’s Name man goes not with death’s minister.
|
ਐਸਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
ऐसा नामु निरंजनु होइ ॥
Æsaa naam niranjan ho▫é.
Such is the stainless Name of God.
|
ਜੇ ਕੋ ਮੰਨਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਮਨਿ ਕੋਇ ॥੧੩॥
जे को मंनि जाणै मनि कोइ ॥१३॥
Jé ko man jaaṇæ man ko▫é. ||13||
If someone puts faith in the Lord’s Name, he shall, then understand it within his mind.
|
ਮੰਨੈ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਠਾਕ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥
मंनै मारगि ठाक न पाइ ॥
Mannæ maarag tʰaak na paa▫é.
The believer in God’s Name meets not obstruction in the way.
|
ਮੰਨੈ ਪਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
मंनै पति सिउ परगटु जाइ ॥
Mannæ paṫ si▫o pargat jaa▫é.
The Name’s believer departs with honour and renown.
|
ਮੰਨੈ ਮਗੁ ਨ ਚਲੈ ਪੰਥੁ ॥
मंनै मगु न चलै पंथु ॥
Mannæ mag na chalæ panṫʰ.
The Name’s believer walks not on the ritualistic religious paths.
|
ਮੰਨੈ ਧਰਮ ਸੇਤੀ ਸਨਬੰਧੁ ॥
मंनै धरम सेती सनबंधु ॥
Mannæ ḋʰaram séṫee san▫banḋʰ.
The believer in God’s Name has an alliance with righteousness.
|
ਐਸਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
ऐसा नामु निरंजनु होइ ॥
Æsaa naam niranjan ho▫é.
Such is the stainless Name of God.
|
ਜੇ ਕੋ ਮੰਨਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਮਨਿ ਕੋਇ ॥੧੪॥
जे को मंनि जाणै मनि कोइ ॥१४॥
Jé ko man jaaṇæ man ko▫é. ||14||

ਮੰਨੈ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮੋਖੁ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥
मंनै पावहि मोखु दुआरु ॥
Mannæ paavahi mokʰ ḋu▫aar.
The obeyer of the Lord’s dictates obtains the door of salvation.
|
ਮੰਨੈ ਪਰਵਾਰੈ ਸਾਧਾਰੁ ॥
मंनै परवारै साधारु ॥
Mannæ parvaaræ saaḋʰaar.
The obeyer of the Lord’s dictates reforms his kith and kin.
|
ਮੰਨੈ ਤਰੈ ਤਾਰੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਿਖ ॥
मंनै तरै तारे गुरु सिख ॥
Mannæ ṫaræ ṫaaré gur sikʰ.
The obeyer of the Lord’s fiat saves himself and saves the Sikhs of the Guru.
|
ਮੰਨੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਵਹਿ ਨ ਭਿਖ ॥
मंनै नानक भवहि न भिख ॥
Mannæ Naanak bʰavahi na bʰikʰ.
The obeyer of the Lord’s fiat goes not begging.
|
ਐਸਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
ऐसा नामु निरंजनु होइ ॥
Æsaa naam niranjan ho▫é.
Such is the stainless Name of God.
|
ਜੇ ਕੋ ਮੰਨਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਮਨਿ ਕੋਇ ॥੧੫॥
जे को मंनि जाणै मनि कोइ ॥१५॥
Jé ko man jaaṇæ man ko▫é. ||15||
If some one puts faith in the Lord’s Name, he shall then, understand it within his mind.
|
ਪੰਚ ਪਰਵਾਣ ਪੰਚ ਪਰਧਾਨੁ ॥
पंच परवाण पंच परधानु ॥
Panch parvaaṇ panch parḋʰaan.
The elect are acceptable and the elect supreme.
|
ਪੰਚੇ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਦਰਗਹਿ ਮਾਨੁ ॥
पंचे पावहि दरगहि मानु ॥
Panché paavahi ḋargahi maan.
The saints obtain honour in the Lord’s Court.
|
ਪੰਚੇ ਸੋਹਹਿ ਦਰਿ ਰਾਜਾਨੁ ॥
पंचे सोहहि दरि राजानु ॥
Panché sohahi ḋar raajaan.
God’s slaves look beauteous in the Court of kings.
|
ਪੰਚਾ ਕਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਏਕੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥
पंचा का गुरु एकु धिआनु ॥
Panchaa kaa gur ék ḋʰi▫aan.
The chosen center their attention on the Guru alone.
|
ਜੇ ਕੋ ਕਹੈ ਕਰੈ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
जे को कहै करै वीचारु ॥
Jé ko kahæ karæ veechaar.
No matter how much someone may narrate and reflect,
|
ਕਰਤੇ ਕੈ ਕਰਣੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਸੁਮਾਰੁ ॥
करते कै करणै नाही सुमारु ॥
Karṫé kæ karṇæ naahee sumaar.
But there can be no enumeration of the Creator’s doing.
|
ਧੌਲੁ ਧਰਮੁ ਦਇਆ ਕਾ ਪੂਤੁ ॥
धौलु धरमु दइआ का पूतु ॥
Ḋʰoul ḋʰaram ḋa▫i▫aa kaa pooṫ.
The mythical bull is piety, the offspring of compassion, which is patiently holding the earth in order.
|
ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਥਾਪਿ ਰਖਿਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਸੂਤਿ ॥
संतोखु थापि रखिआ जिनि सूति ॥
Sanṫokʰ ṫʰaap rakʰi▫aa jin sooṫ.
the offspring of compassion, which is patiently holding the earth in order.
|
ਜੇ ਕੋ ਬੁਝੈ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਚਿਆਰੁ ॥
जे को बुझै होवै सचिआरु ॥
Jé ko bujʰæ hovæ sachiaar.
If some one understands this, he becomes a true man:
|
ਧਵਲੈ ਉਪਰਿ ਕੇਤਾ ਭਾਰੁ ॥
धवलै उपरि केता भारु ॥
Ḋʰavlæ upar kéṫaa bʰaar.
How much load there is on the bull?
|
ਧਰਤੀ ਹੋਰੁ ਪਰੈ ਹੋਰੁ ਹੋਰੁ ॥
धरती होरु परै होरु होरु ॥
Ḋʰarṫee hor paræ hor hor.
There are more worlds beyond this earth, more and more.
|
ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਭਾਰੁ ਤਲੈ ਕਵਣੁ ਜੋਰੁ ॥
तिस ते भारु तलै कवणु जोरु ॥
Ṫis ṫé bʰaar ṫalæ kavaṇ jor.
What power is that which supports their weight from underneath?
|
ਜੀਅ ਜਾਤਿ ਰੰਗਾ ਕੇ ਨਾਵ ॥
जीअ जाति रंगा के नाव ॥
Jee▫a jaaṫ rangaa ké naav.
The Kinds, colours and names of all the beings,
|
ਸਭਨਾ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਵੁੜੀ ਕਲਾਮ ॥
सभना लिखिआ वुड़ी कलाम ॥
Sabʰnaa likʰi▫aa vuṛee kalaam.
were all inscribed by the ever-flowing pen of God.
|
ਏਹੁ ਲੇਖਾ ਲਿਖਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
एहु लेखा लिखि जाणै कोइ ॥
Éhu lékʰaa likʰ jaaṇæ ko▫é.

ਲੇਖਾ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਕੇਤਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
लेखा लिखिआ केता होइ ॥
Lékʰaa likʰi▫aa kéṫaa ho▫é.
How voluminous would be the scribed scroll?
|
ਕੇਤਾ ਤਾਣੁ ਸੁਆਲਿਹੁ ਰੂਪੁ ॥
केता ताणु सुआलिहु रूपु ॥
Kéṫaa ṫaaṇ su▫aalihu roop.
What might and fascinating beauty are Thine, O Lord?
|
ਕੇਤੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਕੌਣੁ ਕੂਤੁ ॥
केती दाति जाणै कौणु कूतु ॥
Kéṫee ḋaaṫ jaaṇæ kouṇ kooṫ.
How great is Thy gift? Who can assess its extent.
|
ਕੀਤਾ ਪਸਾਉ ਏਕੋ ਕਵਾਉ ॥
कीता पसाउ एको कवाउ ॥
Keeṫaa pasaa▫o éko kavaa▫o.
With One Word Thou didst effect the world’s expansion
|
ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਲਖ ਦਰੀਆਉ ॥
तिस ते होए लख दरीआउ ॥
Ṫis ṫé ho▫é lakʰ ḋaree▫aa▫o.
and where by lacs of rivers began to flow.
|
ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕਵਣ ਕਹਾ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
कुदरति कवण कहा वीचारु ॥
Kuḋraṫ kavaṇ kahaa veechaar.
What power have I to describe (Thee or Thine doctrines)?
|
ਵਾਰਿਆ ਨ ਜਾਵਾ ਏਕ ਵਾਰ ॥
वारिआ न जावा एक वार ॥
vaari▫aa na jaavaa ék vaar.
I cannot even once be a sacrifice unto Thee.
|
ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸਾਈ ਭਲੀ ਕਾਰ ॥
जो तुधु भावै साई भली कार ॥
Jo ṫuḋʰ bʰaavæ saa▫ee bʰalee kaar.
Whatever pleases Thee, that is a good pursuit.
|
ਤੂ ਸਦਾ ਸਲਾਮਤਿ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ॥੧੬॥
तू सदा सलामति निरंकार ॥१६॥
Ṫoo saḋaa salaamaṫ nirankaar. ||16||
Thou art ever safe and sound, O Formless One!
|
ਅਸੰਖ ਜਪ ਅਸੰਖ ਭਾਉ ॥
असंख जप असंख भाउ ॥
Asaⁿkʰ jap asaⁿkʰ bʰaa▫o.
Countless are Thine meditations and countless those who meditate on Thee with Love.
|
ਅਸੰਖ ਪੂਜਾ ਅਸੰਖ ਤਪ ਤਾਉ ॥
असंख पूजा असंख तप ताउ ॥
Asaⁿkʰ poojaa asaⁿkʰ ṫap ṫaa▫o.
Countless are Thine worships and countless they who practise penance.
|
ਅਸੰਖ ਗਰੰਥ ਮੁਖਿ ਵੇਦ ਪਾਠ ॥
असंख गरंथ मुखि वेद पाठ ॥
Asaⁿkʰ garanṫʰ mukʰ véḋ paatʰ.
Countless are the scriptures and extempore reciters of Vedas.

ਅਸੰਖ ਜੋਗ ਮਨਿ ਰਹਹਿ ਉਦਾਸ ॥
असंख जोग मनि रहहि उदास ॥
Asaⁿkʰ jog man rahahi uḋaas.
Countless are the yogis who remain detached (in mind) from the world.
