ਊਤਮੁ ਊਚੌ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਗੁਣ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਸੇਖ ॥
ऊतमु ऊचौ पारब्रहमु गुण अंतु न जाणहि सेख ॥
Ūṯam ūcẖou pārbarahm guṇ anṯ na jāṇėh sekẖ.
whose virtues and limit even the thousand-mouthed serpent does not know.

ਨਾਰਦ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਸੁਕ ਬਿਆਸ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਵਤ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ॥
नारद मुनि जन सुक बिआस जसु गावत गोबिंद ॥
Nāraḏ mun jan suk bi▫ās jas gāvaṯ gobinḏ.
Narad, the pious persons, Suk and Vyasa, sing the praise of Lord the Preserver of earth.

ਰਸ ਗੀਧੇ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਬੀਧੇ ਭਗਤ ਰਚੇ ਭਗਵੰਤ ॥
रस गीधे हरि सिउ बीधे भगत रचे भगवंत ॥
Ras gīḏẖe har si▫o bīḏẖe bẖagaṯ racẖe bẖagvanṯ.
They are domesticated with the Name Nectar, are united with God and are absorbed in the Lord's meditation.

ਮੋਹ ਮਾਨ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਬਿਨਸਿਓ ਪਾਈ ਸਰਨਿ ਦਇਆਲ ॥
मोह मान भ्रमु बिनसिओ पाई सरनि दइआल ॥
Moh mān bẖaram binsi▫o pā▫ī saran ḏa▫i▫āl.
By seeking the shelter of the Merciful Master, temporal attachment, ego and doubt are effaced.

ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਬਸੇ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥
चरन कमल मनि तनि बसे दरसनु देखि निहाल ॥
Cẖaran kamal man ṯan base ḏarsan ḏekẖ nihāl.
Lord's lotus feet abide within my mind and body and I am delighted by beholding His sight.

ਲਾਭੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤੋਟਾ ਹਿਰੈ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
लाभु मिलै तोटा हिरै साधसंगि लिव लाइ ॥
Lābẖ milai ṯotā hirai sāḏẖsang liv lā▫e.
By embracing love for God in the society of saints, man reaps profit and surfers no loss

ਖਾਟਿ ਖਜਾਨਾ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਿ ਹਰੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੬॥
खाटि खजाना गुण निधि हरे नानक नामु धिआइ ॥६॥
Kẖāt kẖajānā guṇ niḏẖ hare Nānak nām ḏẖi▫ā▫e. ||6||
Nanak by remembering the Name the mortal attains to the Treasure of God and ocean of excellences.

ਸੰਤ ਮੰਡਲ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਕਥਹਿ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਸਤਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
संत मंडल हरि जसु कथहि बोलहि सति सुभाइ ॥
Sanṯ mandal har jas kathėh bolėh saṯ subẖā▫e.
The saints assembly narrates God's eulogies and tell us the truth with love.

ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੀਐ ਏਕਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੭॥
नानक मनु संतोखीऐ एकसु सिउ लिव लाइ ॥७॥
Nānak man sanṯokẖī▫ai ekas si▫o liv lā▫e. ||7||
Nanak by enshrining affection for the One Lord the soul gets contented.

ਸਪਤਮਿ ਸੰਚਹੁ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਟੂਟਿ ਨ ਜਾਹਿ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥
सपतमि संचहु नाम धनु टूटि न जाहि भंडार ॥
Sapṯam sancẖahu nām ḏẖan tūt na jāhi bẖandār.
The seventh Lunar day: Amass the wealth of the name. This treasure runs not short.

ਸੰਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰ ॥
संतसंगति महि पाईऐ अंतु न पारावार ॥
Sanṯsangaṯ mėh pā▫ī▫ai anṯ na pārāvār.
In the society of saints is obtained the Lord who has no limit and bounds.

ਆਪੁ ਤਜਹੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਭਜਹੁ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਰਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥
आपु तजहु गोबिंद भजहु सरनि परहु हरि राइ ॥
Āp ṯajahu gobinḏ bẖajahu saran parahu har rā▫e.
Relinquish thy self-conceit, remember the Lord and enter the sanctuary of God the King
|
ਦੂਖ ਹਰੈ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਰੈ ਮਨ ਚਿੰਦਿਆ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇ ॥
दूख हरै भवजलु तरै मन चिंदिआ फलु पाइ ॥
Ḏūkẖ harai bẖavjal ṯarai man cẖinḏi▫ā fal pā▫e.
Thy pain shall depart, thou shalt swim across the terrible world-ocean and obtain the heart desired fruit.

ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਮਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੈ ਸਫਲੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
आठ पहर मनि हरि जपै सफलु जनमु परवाणु ॥
Āṯẖ pahar man har japai safal janam parvāṇ.
Profitable and approved is the advent of him who the whole day long heartily remembers God.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਕਰਨੈਹਾਰੁ ਪਛਾਣੁ ॥
अंतरि बाहरि सदा संगि करनैहारु पछाणु ॥
Anṯar bāhar saḏā sang karnaihār pacẖẖāṇ.
Within and without, ever realise the Creator to be with thee.
|
ਸੋ ਸਾਜਨੁ ਸੋ ਸਖਾ ਮੀਤੁ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਦੇਇ ॥
सो साजनु सो सखा मीतु जो हरि की मति देइ ॥
So sājan so sakẖā mīṯ jo har kī maṯ ḏe▫e.
He is the friend he the comrade and an intimate who imparts unto me the Divine instruction.

ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਣੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੇਇ ॥੭॥
नानक तिसु बलिहारणै हरि हरि नामु जपेइ ॥७॥
Nānak ṯis balihārṇai har har nām jape▫e. ||7||
Nanak is devoted unto me who repeats the Name of the Lord God.

ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਈਅਹਿ ਤਜੀਅਹਿ ਅਵਰਿ ਜੰਜਾਲ ॥
आठ पहर गुन गाईअहि तजीअहि अवरि जंजाल ॥
Āṯẖ pahar gun gā▫ī▫ah ṯajī▫ah avar janjāl.
Lay aside other entanglements and sing God's praises throughout the eight watches of the day.

ਜਮਕੰਕਰੁ ਜੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਈ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਇਆਲ ॥੮॥
जमकंकरु जोहि न सकई नानक प्रभू दइआल ॥८॥
Jamkankar johi na sak▫ī Nānak parabẖū ḏa▫i▫āl. ||8||
Death's Minister cannot eye the man unto whom the Lord is merciful, O Nanak.

ਅਸਟਮੀ ਅਸਟ ਸਿਧਿ ਨਵ ਨਿਧਿ ॥
असटमी असट सिधि नव निधि ॥
Astamī asat siḏẖ nav niḏẖ.
The eighth Lunar day, the eight occult doers the nine treasures,
|
ਸਗਲ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਪੂਰਨ ਬੁਧਿ ॥
सगल पदारथ पूरन बुधि ॥
Sagal paḏārath pūran buḏẖ.
all the precious things, perfect intellect,
|
ਕਵਲ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ਸਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ॥
कवल प्रगास सदा आनंद ॥
Kaval pargās saḏā ānanḏ.
the blossoming of heart lotus, eternal bliss,
|
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਰੀਤਿ ਨਿਰੋਧਰ ਮੰਤ ॥
निरमल रीति निरोधर मंत ॥
Nirmal rīṯ niroḏẖar manṯ.
pure way of life, infallible instruction,
|
ਸਗਲ ਧਰਮ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ॥
सगल धरम पवित्र इसनानु ॥
Sagal ḏẖaram paviṯar isnān.
all the virtues, sacred ablutions,
|
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਊਚ ਬਿਸੇਖ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
सभ महि ऊच बिसेख गिआनु ॥
Sabẖ mėh ūcẖ bisekẖ gi▫ān.
and the most lofty and sublime Divine knowledge,

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਜਨੁ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਸੰਗਿ ॥
हरि हरि भजनु पूरे गुर संगि ॥
Har har bẖajan pūre gur sang.
are obtained by Lord God's meditation in the company of the Perfect Guru.

ਜਪਿ ਤਰੀਐ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ॥੮॥
जपि तरीऐ नानक नाम हरि रंगि ॥८॥
Jap ṯarī▫ai Nānak nām har rang. ||8||
Man is saved, O Nanak by affectionately meditating on God's Name.

ਨਾਰਾਇਣੁ ਨਹ ਸਿਮਰਿਓ ਮੋਹਿਓ ਸੁਆਦ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥
नाराइणु नह सिमरिओ मोहिओ सुआद बिकार ॥
Nārā▫iṇ nah simri▫o mohi▫o su▫āḏ bikār.
The mortal contemplates not over the Pervading God and is fascinated by the pleasures of sin.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਬਿਸਾਰਿਐ ਨਰਕ ਸੁਰਗ ਅਵਤਾਰ ॥੯॥
नानक नामि बिसारिऐ नरक सुरग अवतार ॥९॥
Nānak nām bisāri▫ai narak surag avṯār. ||9||
By forgetting the Name, he lands in hell and heaven, O Nanak.

ਨਉਮੀ ਨਵੇ ਛਿਦ੍ਰ ਅਪਵੀਤ ॥
नउमी नवे छिद्र अपवीत ॥
Na▫umī nave cẖẖiḏar apvīṯ.
The ninth Lunar day: Defiled are the nine body apertures.

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਜਪਹਿ ਕਰਤ ਬਿਪਰੀਤਿ ॥
हरि नामु न जपहि करत बिपरीति ॥
Har nām na jāpėh karaṯ biprīṯ.
The mortals utter not God's Name and take to evil ways.

ਪਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਅ ਰਮਹਿ ਬਕਹਿ ਸਾਧ ਨਿੰਦ ॥
पर त्रिअ रमहि बकहि साध निंद ॥
Par ṯari▫a ramėh bakėh sāḏẖ ninḏ.
They enjoy another's women, speak ill of the saints,
|
ਕਰਨ ਨ ਸੁਨਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਬਿੰਦ ॥
करन न सुनही हरि जसु बिंद ॥
Karan na sunhī har jas binḏ.
and with their ears, hear not even an iota of God praise.
|
ਹਿਰਹਿ ਪਰ ਦਰਬੁ ਉਦਰ ਕੈ ਤਾਈ ॥
हिरहि पर दरबु उदर कै ताई ॥
Hirėh par ḏarab uḏar kai ṯā▫ī.
For the sake of their belly they snatch other's wealth,
|
ਅਗਨਿ ਨ ਨਿਵਰੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਨ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
अगनि न निवरै त्रिसना न बुझाई ॥
Agan na nivrai ṯarisnā na bujẖā▫ī.
their fire is quenched not nor is their desire stilled.
|
ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਏਹ ਫਲ ਲਾਗੇ ॥
हरि सेवा बिनु एह फल लागे ॥
Har sevā bin eh fal lāge.
Without God's service such are the man's deserts.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਿਸਰਤ ਮਰਿ ਜਮਹਿ ਅਭਾਗੇ ॥੯॥
नानक प्रभ बिसरत मरि जमहि अभागे ॥९॥
Nānak parabẖ bisraṯ mar jamėh abẖāge. ||9||
Nanak by forgetting the Lord, the unfortunate ones suffer transmigration.

ਦਸ ਦਿਸ ਖੋਜਤ ਮੈ ਫਿਰਿਓ ਜਤ ਦੇਖਉ ਤਤ ਸੋਇ ॥
दस दिस खोजत मै फिरिओ जत देखउ तत सोइ ॥
Ḏas ḏis kẖojaṯ mai firi▫o jaṯ ḏekẖ▫a▫u ṯaṯ so▫e.
I have wandered searching in ten directions, wherever I see I find that Lord there.

ਮਨੁ ਬਸਿ ਆਵੈ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੧੦॥
मनु बसि आवै नानका जे पूरन किरपा होइ ॥१०॥
Man bas āvai nānkā je pūran kirpā ho▫e. ||10||
Nanak man's mind is controlled if the Lord shows His perfect mercy unto him.

ਦਸਮੀ ਦਸ ਦੁਆਰ ਬਸਿ ਕੀਨੇ ॥
दसमी दस दुआर बसि कीने ॥
Ḏasmī ḏas ḏu▫ār bas kīne.
The tenth Lunar day, he who overpowers his ten doors (five sensory and five motor organs),
|
ਮਨਿ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿ ਲੀਨੇ ॥
मनि संतोखु नाम जपि लीने ॥
Man sanṯokẖ nām jap līne.
is mentally content and repeats the Name.
|
ਕਰਨੀ ਸੁਨੀਐ ਜਸੁ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥
करनी सुनीऐ जसु गोपाल ॥
Karnī sunī▫ai jas gopāl.
With thine ears hear thou the Lord's praise,
|
ਨੈਨੀ ਪੇਖਤ ਸਾਧ ਦਇਆਲ ॥
नैनी पेखत साध दइआल ॥
Nainī pekẖaṯ sāḏẖ ḏa▫i▫āl.
with thine eyes see the kind saints.
|
ਰਸਨਾ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵੈ ਬੇਅੰਤ ॥
रसना गुन गावै बेअंत ॥
Rasnā gun gāvai be▫anṯ.
With thy tongue sing the excellences of the Infinite Lord.
|
ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਚਿਤਵੈ ਪੂਰਨ ਭਗਵੰਤ ॥
मन महि चितवै पूरन भगवंत ॥
Man mėh cẖiṯvai pūran bẖagvanṯ.
In thy mind think of the Perfect Lord.
