ਲਾਭੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤੋਟਾ ਹਿਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਤਿਵੰਤ ॥
लाभु मिलै तोटा हिरै हरि दरगह पतिवंत ॥
Lābẖ milai ṯotā hirai har ḏargėh paṯivanṯ.
Thou shalt earn profit suffer no loss and be honoured in God's court.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਚਵੈ ਸਾਚ ਸਾਹ ਭਗਵੰਤ ॥
राम नाम धनु संचवै साच साह भगवंत ॥
Rām nām ḏẖan sancẖvai sācẖ sāh bẖagvanṯ.
Fortunate and truly wealthy is he who amasses the riches of Pervading God's Name.

ਊਠਤ ਬੈਠਤ ਹਰਿ ਭਜਹੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਪਰੀਤਿ ॥
ऊठत बैठत हरि भजहु साधू संगि परीति ॥
Ūṯẖaṯ baiṯẖaṯ har bẖajahu sāḏẖū sang parīṯ.
Standing up and sitting down meditate thou on God and enshrine affection for the saints society.

ਨਾਨਕ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਛੁਟਿ ਗਈ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬਸੇ ਚੀਤਿ ॥੨॥
नानक दुरमति छुटि गई पारब्रहम बसे चीति ॥२॥
Nānak ḏurmaṯ cẖẖut ga▫ī pārbarahm base cẖīṯ. ||2||
Nanak when the Supreme Lord abides in man's mind his evil intellect is annulled.

ਤੀਨਿ ਬਿਆਪਹਿ ਜਗਤ ਕਉ ਤੁਰੀਆ ਪਾਵੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
तीनि बिआपहि जगत कउ तुरीआ पावै कोइ ॥
Ŧīn bi▫āpahi jagaṯ ka▫o ṯurī▫ā pāvai ko▫e.
The three qualities are harassing the world and some rare one attains the fourth state of bliss.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਤ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਭਏ ਜਿਨ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥
नानक संत निरमल भए जिन मनि वसिआ सोइ ॥३॥
Nānak sanṯ nirmal bẖa▫e jin man vasi▫ā so▫e. ||3||
Nanak the saints within whose mind that Lord abides become pure.

ਤ੍ਰਿਤੀਆ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਬਿਖੈ ਫਲ ਕਬ ਉਤਮ ਕਬ ਨੀਚੁ ॥
त्रितीआ त्रै गुण बिखै फल कब उतम कब नीचु ॥
Ŧariṯī▫ā ṯarai guṇ bikẖai fal kab uṯam kab nīcẖ.
The Third Lunar day: The men of three dispositions, gather poison, as their fruit. They are just now good and just now bad.

ਨਰਕ ਸੁਰਗ ਭ੍ਰਮਤਉ ਘਣੋ ਸਦਾ ਸੰਘਾਰੈ ਮੀਚੁ ॥
नरक सुरग भ्रमतउ घणो सदा संघारै मीचु ॥
Narak surag bẖaramṯa▫o gẖaṇo saḏā sangẖārai mīcẖ.
They greatly wander in hell and heaven and death ever annihilates them.

ਹਰਖ ਸੋਗ ਸਹਸਾ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਤ ਬਿਹਾਇ ॥
हरख सोग सहसा संसारु हउ हउ करत बिहाइ ॥
Harakẖ sog sahsā sansār ha▫o ha▫o karaṯ bihā▫e.
Gripped by weal, woe, and doubt of the world, they pass their life in taking pride.

ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਏ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਣਨੀ ਚਿਤਵਹਿ ਅਨਿਕ ਉਪਾਇ ॥
जिनि कीए तिसहि न जाणनी चितवहि अनिक उपाइ ॥
Jin kī▫e ṯisėh na jāṇnī cẖiṯvahi anik upā▫e.
They know not Him who did create them and think of various others plans.

ਆਧਿ ਬਿਆਧਿ ਉਪਾਧਿ ਰਸ ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਤੂਟੈ ਤਾਪ ॥
आधि बिआधि उपाधि रस कबहु न तूटै ताप ॥
Āḏẖ bi▫āḏẖ upāḏẖ ras kabahu na ṯūtai ṯāp.
They remain merged in pains and pleasures of the mind and body and their fever (worry) never departs.

ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪੂਰਨ ਧਨੀ ਨਹ ਬੂਝੈ ਪਰਤਾਪ ॥
पारब्रहम पूरन धनी नह बूझै परताप ॥
Pārbarahm pūran ḏẖanī nah būjẖai parṯāp.
They realise not the effulgence of the Transcendent Lord, the perfect master.

ਮੋਹ ਭਰਮ ਬੂਡਤ ਘਣੋ ਮਹਾ ਨਰਕ ਮਹਿ ਵਾਸ ॥
मोह भरम बूडत घणो महा नरक महि वास ॥
Moh bẖaram būdaṯ gẖaṇo mahā narak mėh vās.
In secular love and superstition many are drowned and in the arch hell do they abide.

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਰੀ ਆਸ ॥੩॥
करि किरपा प्रभ राखि लेहु नानक तेरी आस ॥३॥
Kar kirpā parabẖ rākẖ leho Nānak ṯerī ās. ||3||
Show mercy O Lord and save me Nanak's hope rests in Thee.

ਚਤੁਰ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਸੁਘੜੁ ਸੋਇ ਜਿਨਿ ਤਜਿਆ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
चतुर सिआणा सुघड़ु सोइ जिनि तजिआ अभिमानु ॥
Cẖaṯur si▫āṇā sugẖaṛ so▫e jin ṯaji▫ā abẖimān.
He who eschews his ego is intelligent, wise and accomplished.

ਚਾਰਿ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਅਸਟ ਸਿਧਿ ਭਜੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੪॥
चारि पदारथ असट सिधि भजु नानक हरि नामु ॥४॥
Cẖār paḏārath asat siḏẖ bẖaj Nānak har nām. ||4||
Nanak by meditating on the Name of God the four cardinal boons and eight occult powers are attained.

ਚਤੁਰਥਿ ਚਾਰੇ ਬੇਦ ਸੁਣਿ ਸੋਧਿਓ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
चतुरथि चारे बेद सुणि सोधिओ ततु बीचारु ॥
Cẖaṯurath cẖāre beḏ suṇ soḏẖi▫o ṯaṯ bīcẖār.
The Forth Lunar Day: Hearing the Vedas and pondering over their reality, I have ascertained,

ਸਰਬ ਖੇਮ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਨਿਧਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
सरब खेम कलिआण निधि राम नामु जपि सारु ॥
Sarab kẖem kali▫āṇ niḏẖ rām nām jap sār.
that the sublime meditation of Lords Name is the treasure of all the joys and comforts.

ਨਰਕ ਨਿਵਾਰੈ ਦੁਖ ਹਰੈ ਤੂਟਹਿ ਅਨਿਕ ਕਲੇਸ ॥
नरक निवारै दुख हरै तूटहि अनिक कलेस ॥
Narak nivārai ḏukẖ harai ṯūtėh anik kales.
By being absorbed in God's praises hell is warded off, suffering is removed,

ਮੀਚੁ ਹੁਟੈ ਜਮ ਤੇ ਛੁਟੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਪਰਵੇਸ ॥
मीचु हुटै जम ते छुटै हरि कीरतन परवेस ॥
Mīcẖ hutai jam ṯe cẖẖutai har kīrṯan parves.
many an affliction depart death is overcome as the mortal escapes the death's couriers.

ਭਉ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਰਸੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤੇ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ॥
भउ बिनसै अम्रितु रसै रंगि रते निरंकार ॥
Bẖa▫o binsai amriṯ rasai rang raṯe nirankār.
Tinged with the love of the Formless Lord man's fear departs and he enjoys the Nectar.

ਦੁਖ ਦਾਰਿਦ ਅਪਵਿਤ੍ਰਤਾ ਨਾਸਹਿ ਨਾਮ ਅਧਾਰ ॥
दुख दारिद अपवित्रता नासहि नाम अधार ॥
Ḏukẖ ḏāriḏ apviṯarṯā nāsėh nām aḏẖār.
with the mainstay of God's Name, pain poverty and impiety are removed.

ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਖੋਜਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥
सुरि नर मुनि जन खोजते सुख सागर गोपाल ॥
Sur nar mun jan kẖojṯe sukẖ sāgar gopāl.
The gods, men and the silent sages, search for the Lord, the Ocean of peace.

ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਮੁਖੁ ਊਜਲਾ ਹੋਇ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਧ ਰਵਾਲ ॥੪॥
मनु निरमलु मुखु ऊजला होइ नानक साध रवाल ॥४॥
Man nirmal mukẖ ūjlā ho▫e Nānak sāḏẖ ravāl. ||4||
By becoming the dust of the saints feet, O Nanak the mind is rendered pure and the face bright.

ਪੰਚ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਬਸੇ ਰਾਚੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਸੰਗਿ ॥
पंच बिकार मन महि बसे राचे माइआ संगि ॥
Pancẖ bikār man mėh base rācẖe mā▫i▫ā sang.
The mortal is engrossed in worldly valuables and the five evil passions abide in his mind.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ॥੫॥
साधसंगि होइ निरमला नानक प्रभ कै रंगि ॥५॥
Sāḏẖsang ho▫e nirmalā Nānak parabẖ kai rang. ||5||
Tinctured with Lord's love in the saints guild, O Nanak he becomes pure.

ਪੰਚਮਿ ਪੰਚ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਤੇ ਜਿਹ ਜਾਨਿਓ ਪਰਪੰਚੁ ॥
पंचमि पंच प्रधान ते जिह जानिओ परपंचु ॥
Pancẖam pancẖ parḏẖān ṯe jih jāni▫o parpancẖ.
The fifth Lunar day: They are the elect and the most distinguished, who understand the purport of the world.

ਕੁਸਮ ਬਾਸ ਬਹੁ ਰੰਗੁ ਘਣੋ ਸਭ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਬਲਬੰਚੁ ॥
कुसम बास बहु रंगु घणो सभ मिथिआ बलबंचु ॥
Kusam bās baho rang gẖaṇo sabẖ mithi▫ā balbancẖ.
Like the great scent and many colours of flowers all the frauds are false.
|
ਨਹ ਜਾਪੈ ਨਹ ਬੂਝੀਐ ਨਹ ਕਛੁ ਕਰਤ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
नह जापै नह बूझीऐ नह कछु करत बीचारु ॥
Nah jāpai nah būjẖī▫ai nah kacẖẖ karaṯ bīcẖār.
Man sees not, he understands not the reality, nor does he deliberate even a little.

ਸੁਆਦ ਮੋਹ ਰਸ ਬੇਧਿਓ ਅਗਿਆਨਿ ਰਚਿਓ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥
सुआद मोह रस बेधिओ अगिआनि रचिओ संसारु ॥
Su▫āḏ moh ras beḏẖi▫o agi▫ān racẖi▫o sansār.
The world is pierced through with relishes, temporal love and revelments and is engrossed in ignorance.

ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਬਹੁ ਜੋਨਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਣ ਕੀਨੇ ਕਰਮ ਅਨੇਕ ॥
जनम मरण बहु जोनि भ्रमण कीने करम अनेक ॥
Janam maraṇ baho jon bẖarmaṇ kīne karam anek.
They suffer transmigration and wander in many existences, who perform many religious rites,
|
ਰਚਨਹਾਰੁ ਨਹ ਸਿਮਰਿਓ ਮਨਿ ਨ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ਬਿਬੇਕ ॥
रचनहारु नह सिमरिओ मनि न बीचारि बिबेक ॥
Racẖanhār nah simri▫o man na bīcẖār bibek.
but do not meditate on the Creator and in their mind have no Divine discrimination.

ਭਾਉ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਲਿਪਤ ਨ ਰੰਚ ॥
भाउ भगति भगवान संगि माइआ लिपत न रंच ॥
Bẖā▫o bẖagaṯ bẖagvān sang mā▫i▫ā lipaṯ na rancẖ.
By virtue of Lord's love devotion and association, mortal is not in the least contaminated by mammon.

ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਰਲੇ ਪਾਈਅਹਿ ਜੋ ਨ ਰਚਹਿ ਪਰਪੰਚ ॥੫॥
नानक बिरले पाईअहि जो न रचहि परपंच ॥५॥
Nānak birle pā▫ī▫ah jo na racẖėh parpancẖ. ||5||
Nanak scarcely are found such persons who get not engrossed in the world.

ਖਟ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਊਚੌ ਕਹਹਿ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰ ॥
खट सासत्र ऊचौ कहहि अंतु न पारावार ॥
Kẖat sāsṯar ūcẖou kahėh anṯ na pārāvār.
The six schools of philosophy proclaim Him Great and that there is no limit to this and yonder shore of the Lord.

ਭਗਤ ਸੋਹਹਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਤੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਦੁਆਰ ॥੬॥
भगत सोहहि गुण गावते नानक प्रभ कै दुआर ॥६॥
Bẖagaṯ sohėh guṇ gāvṯe Nānak parabẖ kai ḏu▫ār. ||6||
Nanak the saints look beauteous, when they sing Lord's praises at His door.

ਖਸਟਮਿ ਖਟ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਕਹਹਿ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਕਥਹਿ ਅਨੇਕ ॥
खसटमि खट सासत्र कहहि सिम्रिति कथहि अनेक ॥
Kẖastam kẖat sāsṯar kahėh simriṯ kathėh anek.
The Sixth Lunar Day: Say the six Shashtras and assert the many Simirtis that sublime and lofty is the Transcendent Lord,
