ਇਆਹੂ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਬਿਹਾਨੇ ਕਈ ਜਨਮ
इआहू जुगति बिहाने कई जनम ॥
I▫āhū jugaṯ bihāne ka▫ī janam.
So many lifetimes are wasted in these ways.

ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਆਪਨ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਮ ॥੭॥
नानक राखि लेहु आपन करि करम ॥७॥
Nānak rākẖ leho āpan kar karam. ||7||
Nanak: uplift them, and redeem them, O Lord - show Your Mercy! ||7||

ਤੂ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਤੁਮ ਪਹਿ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ
तू ठाकुरु तुम पहि अरदासि ॥
Ŧū ṯẖākur ṯum pėh arḏās.
You are our Lord and Master; to You, I offer this prayer.

ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਾਸਿ
जीउ पिंडु सभु तेरी रासि ॥
Jī▫o pind sabẖ ṯerī rās.
This body and soul are all Your property.

ਤੁਮ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਹਮ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਤੇਰੇ
तुम मात पिता हम बारिक तेरे ॥
Ŧum māṯ piṯā ham bārik ṯere.
You are our mother and father; we are Your children.

ਤੁਮਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਮਹਿ ਸੂਖ ਘਨੇਰੇ
तुमरी क्रिपा महि सूख घनेरे ॥
Ŧumrī kirpā mėh sūkẖ gẖanere.
In Your Grace, there are so many joys!

ਕੋਇ ਜਾਨੈ ਤੁਮਰਾ ਅੰਤੁ
कोइ न जानै तुमरा अंतु ॥
Ko▫e na jānai ṯumrā anṯ.
No one knows Your limits.

ਊਚੇ ਤੇ ਊਚਾ ਭਗਵੰਤ
ऊचे ते ऊचा भगवंत ॥
Ūcẖe ṯe ūcẖā bẖagvanṯ.
O Highest of the High, Most Generous God,

ਸਗਲ ਸਮਗ੍ਰੀ ਤੁਮਰੈ ਸੂਤ੍ਰਿ ਧਾਰੀ
सगल समग्री तुमरै सूत्रि धारी ॥
Sagal samagrī ṯumrai suṯir ḏẖārī.
the whole creation is strung on Your thread.

ਤੁਮ ਤੇ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਆਗਿਆਕਾਰੀ
तुम ते होइ सु आगिआकारी ॥
Ŧum ṯe ho▫e so āgi▫ākārī.
That which has come from You is under Your Command.

ਤੁਮਰੀ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਜਾਨੀ
तुमरी गति मिति तुम ही जानी ॥
Ŧumrī gaṯ miṯ ṯum hī jānī.
You alone know Your state and extent.

ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਸਦਾ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੀ ॥੮॥੪॥
नानक दास सदा कुरबानी ॥८॥४॥
Nānak ḏās saḏā kurbānī. ||8||4||
Nanak, Your slave, is forever a sacrifice. ||8||4||

ਸਲੋਕੁ
सलोकु ॥
Salok.
Shalok:

ਦੇਨਹਾਰੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਛੋਡਿ ਕੈ ਲਾਗਹਿ ਆਨ ਸੁਆਇ
देनहारु प्रभ छोडि कै लागहि आन सुआइ ॥
Ḏenhār parabẖ cẖẖod kai lāgėh ān su▫ā▫e.
One who renounces God the Giver, and attaches himself to other affairs -

ਨਾਨਕ ਕਹੂ ਸੀਝਈ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਪਤਿ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
नानक कहू न सीझई बिनु नावै पति जाइ ॥१॥
Nānak kahū na sījẖ▫ī bin nāvai paṯ jā▫e. ||1||
O Nanak, he shall never succeed. Without the Name, he shall lose his honor. ||1||

ਅਸਟਪਦੀ
असटपदी ॥
Asatpaḏī.
Ashtapadee:

ਦਸ ਬਸਤੂ ਲੇ ਪਾਛੈ ਪਾਵੈ
दस बसतू ले पाछै पावै ॥
Ḏas basṯū le pācẖẖai pāvai.
He obtains ten things, and puts them behind him;

ਏਕ ਬਸਤੁ ਕਾਰਨਿ ਬਿਖੋਟਿ ਗਵਾਵੈ
एक बसतु कारनि बिखोटि गवावै ॥
Ėk basaṯ kāran bikẖot gavāvai.
for the sake of one thing withheld, he forfeits his faith.

ਏਕ ਭੀ ਦੇਇ ਦਸ ਭੀ ਹਿਰਿ ਲੇਇ
एक भी न देइ दस भी हिरि लेइ ॥
Ėk bẖī na ḏe▫e ḏas bẖī hir le▫e.
But what if that one thing were not given, and the ten were taken away?

ਤਉ ਮੂੜਾ ਕਹੁ ਕਹਾ ਕਰੇਇ
तउ मूड़ा कहु कहा करेइ ॥
Ŧa▫o mūṛā kaho kahā kare▫i.
Then, what could the fool say or do?

ਜਿਸੁ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਸਿਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਚਾਰਾ
जिसु ठाकुर सिउ नाही चारा ॥
Jis ṯẖākur si▫o nāhī cẖārā.
Our Lord and Master cannot be moved by force.

ਤਾ ਕਉ ਕੀਜੈ ਸਦ ਨਮਸਕਾਰਾ
ता कउ कीजै सद नमसकारा ॥
Ŧā ka▫o kījai saḏ namaskārā.
Unto Him, bow forever in adoration.

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਲਾਗਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੀਠਾ
जा कै मनि लागा प्रभु मीठा ॥
Jā kai man lāgā parabẖ mīṯẖā.
That one, unto whose mind God seems sweet -

ਸਰਬ ਸੂਖ ਤਾਹੂ ਮਨਿ ਵੂਠਾ
सरब सूख ताहू मनि वूठा ॥
Sarab sūkẖ ṯāhū man vūṯẖā.
all pleasures come to abide in his mind.

ਜਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਅਪਨਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਮਨਾਇਆ
जिसु जन अपना हुकमु मनाइआ ॥
Jis jan apnā hukam manā▫i▫ā.
One who abides by the Lord's Will,

ਸਰਬ ਥੋਕ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
सरब थोक नानक तिनि पाइआ ॥१॥
Sarab thok Nānak ṯin pā▫i▫ā. ||1||
O Nanak, obtains all things. ||1||

ਅਗਨਤ ਸਾਹੁ ਅਪਨੀ ਦੇ ਰਾਸਿ
अगनत साहु अपनी दे रासि ॥
Agnaṯ sāhu apnī ḏe rās.
God the Banker gives endless capital to the mortal,

ਖਾਤ ਪੀਤ ਬਰਤੈ ਅਨਦ ਉਲਾਸਿ
खात पीत बरतै अनद उलासि ॥
Kẖāṯ pīṯ barṯai anaḏ ulās.
who eats, drinks and expends it with pleasure and joy.

ਅਪੁਨੀ ਅਮਾਨ ਕਛੁ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਸਾਹੁ ਲੇਇ
अपुनी अमान कछु बहुरि साहु लेइ ॥
Apunī amān kacẖẖ bahur sāhu le▫e.
If some of this capital is later taken back by the Banker,

ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਮਨਿ ਰੋਸੁ ਕਰੇਇ
अगिआनी मनि रोसु करेइ ॥
Agi▫ānī man ros kare▫i.
the ignorant person shows his anger.

ਅਪਨੀ ਪਰਤੀਤਿ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਖੋਵੈ
अपनी परतीति आप ही खोवै ॥
Apnī parṯīṯ āp hī kẖovai.
He himself destroys his own credibility,

ਬਹੁਰਿ ਉਸ ਕਾ ਬਿਸ੍ਵਾਸੁ ਹੋਵੈ
बहुरि उस का बिस्वासु न होवै ॥
Bahur us kā bisvās na hovai.
and he shall not again be trusted.

ਜਿਸ ਕੀ ਬਸਤੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਰਾਖੈ
जिस की बसतु तिसु आगै राखै ॥
Jis kī basaṯ ṯis āgai rākẖai.
When one offers to the Lord, that which belongs to the Lord,

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਆਗਿਆ ਮਾਨੈ ਮਾਥੈ
प्रभ की आगिआ मानै माथै ॥
Parabẖ kī āgi▫ā mānai māthai.
and willingly abides by the Will of God's Order,

ਉਸ ਤੇ ਚਉਗੁਨ ਕਰੈ ਨਿਹਾਲੁ
उस ते चउगुन करै निहालु ॥
Us ṯe cẖa▫ugun karai nihāl.
the Lord will make him happy four times over.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਦਾ ਦਇਆਲੁ ॥੨॥
नानक साहिबु सदा दइआलु ॥२॥
Nānak sāhib saḏā ḏa▫i▫āl. ||2||
O Nanak, our Lord and Master is merciful forever. ||2||

ਅਨਿਕ ਭਾਤਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਹੇਤ
अनिक भाति माइआ के हेत ॥
Anik bẖāṯ mā▫i▫ā ke heṯ.
The many forms of attachment to Maya,

ਸਰਪਰ ਹੋਵਤ ਜਾਨੁ ਅਨੇਤ
सरपर होवत जानु अनेत ॥
Sarpar hovaṯ jān aneṯ.
shall surely pass away - know that they are transitory.

ਬਿਰਖ ਕੀ ਛਾਇਆ ਸਿਉ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਵੈ
बिरख की छाइआ सिउ रंगु लावै ॥
Birakẖ kī cẖẖā▫i▫ā si▫o rang lāvai.
People fall in love with the shade of the tree,

ਓਹ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਉਹੁ ਮਨਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਵੈ
ओह बिनसै उहु मनि पछुतावै ॥
Oh binsai uho man pacẖẖuṯāvai.
and when it passes away, they feel regret in their minds.

ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਸੋ ਚਾਲਨਹਾਰੁ
जो दीसै सो चालनहारु ॥
Jo ḏīsai so cẖālanhār.
Whatever is seen, shall pass away;

ਲਪਟਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਤਹ ਅੰਧ ਅੰਧਾਰੁ
लपटि रहिओ तह अंध अंधारु ॥
Lapat rahi▫o ṯah anḏẖ anḏẖār.
and yet, the blindest of the blind cling to it.

ਬਟਾਊ ਸਿਉ ਜੋ ਲਾਵੈ ਨੇਹ
बटाऊ सिउ जो लावै नेह ॥
Batā▫ū si▫o jo lāvai neh.
One who gives her love to a passing traveler -

ਤਾ ਕਉ ਹਾਥਿ ਆਵੈ ਕੇਹ
ता कउ हाथि न आवै केह ॥
Ŧā ka▫o hāth na āvai keh.
nothing shall come into her hands in this way.

ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ
मन हरि के नाम की प्रीति सुखदाई ॥
Man har ke nām kī parīṯ sukẖ▫ḏā▫ī.
O mind, the love of the Name of the Lord bestows peace.

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪਿ ਲਏ ਲਾਈ ॥੩॥
करि किरपा नानक आपि लए लाई ॥३॥
Kar kirpā Nānak āp la▫e lā▫ī. ||3||
O Nanak, the Lord, in His Mercy, unites us with Himself. ||3||

ਮਿਥਿਆ ਤਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਸਬਾਇਆ
मिथिआ तनु धनु कुट्मबु सबाइआ ॥
Mithi▫ā ṯan ḏẖan kutamb sabā▫i▫ā.
False are body, wealth, and all relations.

ਮਿਥਿਆ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਮਤਾ ਮਾਇਆ
मिथिआ हउमै ममता माइआ ॥
Mithi▫ā ha▫umai mamṯā mā▫i▫ā.
False are ego, possessiveness and Maya.

ਮਿਥਿਆ ਰਾਜ ਜੋਬਨ ਧਨ ਮਾਲ
मिथिआ राज जोबन धन माल ॥
Mithi▫ā rāj joban ḏẖan māl.
False are power, youth, wealth and property.

ਮਿਥਿਆ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਬਿਕਰਾਲ
मिथिआ काम क्रोध बिकराल ॥
Mithi▫ā kām kroḏẖ bikrāl.
False are sexual desire and wild anger.

ਮਿਥਿਆ ਰਥ ਹਸਤੀ ਅਸ੍ਵ ਬਸਤ੍ਰਾ
मिथिआ रथ हसती अस्व बसत्रा ॥
Mithi▫ā rath hasṯī asav basṯarā.
False are chariots, elephants, horses and expensive clothes.

ਮਿਥਿਆ ਰੰਗ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਪੇਖਿ ਹਸਤਾ
मिथिआ रंग संगि माइआ पेखि हसता ॥
Mithi▫ā rang sang mā▫i▫ā pekẖ hasṯā.
False is the love of gathering wealth, and reveling in the sight of it.

ਮਿਥਿਆ ਧ੍ਰੋਹ ਮੋਹ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ
मिथिआ ध्रोह मोह अभिमानु ॥
Mithi▫ā ḏẖaroh moh abẖimān.
False are deception, emotional attachment and egotistical pride.

ਮਿਥਿਆ ਆਪਸ ਊਪਰਿ ਕਰਤ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ
मिथिआ आपस ऊपरि करत गुमानु ॥
Mithi▫ā āpas ūpar karaṯ gumān.
False are pride and self-conceit.

ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਾਧ ਕੀ ਸਰਨ
असथिरु भगति साध की सरन ॥
Asthir bẖagaṯ sāḏẖ kī saran.
Only devotional worship is permanent, and the Sanctuary of the Holy.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਜੀਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ॥੪॥
नानक जपि जपि जीवै हरि के चरन ॥४॥
Nānak jap jap jīvai har ke cẖaran. ||4||
Nanak lives by meditating, meditating on the Lotus Feet of the Lord. ||4||

ਮਿਥਿਆ ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ਪਰ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਸੁਨਹਿ
मिथिआ स्रवन पर निंदा सुनहि ॥
Mithi▫ā sarvan par ninḏā sunėh.
False are the ears which listen to the slander of others.

ਮਿਥਿਆ ਹਸਤ ਪਰ ਦਰਬ ਕਉ ਹਿਰਹਿ
मिथिआ हसत पर दरब कउ हिरहि ॥
Mithi▫ā hasaṯ par ḏarab ka▫o hirėh.
False are the hands which steal the wealth of others.
