ਯਯਾ ਜਾਰਉ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਦੋਊ ॥
यया जारउ दुरमति दोऊ ॥
Ya▫yā jāra▫o ḏurmaṯ ḏo▫ū.
YAYYA: Burn away duality and evil-mindedness.
|
ਤਿਸਹਿ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜੇ ਸੋਊ ॥
तिसहि तिआगि सुख सहजे सोऊ ॥
Ŧisėh ṯi▫āg sukẖ sėhje so▫ū.
Give them up, and sleep in intuitive peace and poise.
|
ਯਯਾ ਜਾਇ ਪਰਹੁ ਸੰਤ ਸਰਨਾ ॥
यया जाइ परहु संत सरना ॥
Ya▫yā jā▫e parahu sanṯ sarnā.
Yaya: Go, and seek the Sanctuary of the Saints;
|
ਜਿਹ ਆਸਰ ਇਆ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਰਨਾ ॥
जिह आसर इआ भवजलु तरना ॥
Jih āsar i▫ā bẖavjal ṯarnā.
with their help, you shall cross over the terrifying world-ocean.
|
ਯਯਾ ਜਨਮਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਸੋਊ ॥
यया जनमि न आवै सोऊ ॥
Ya▫yā janam na āvai so▫ū.
Yaya: One does not have to take birth again.
|
ਏਕ ਨਾਮ ਲੇ ਮਨਹਿ ਪਰੋਊ ॥
एक नाम ले मनहि परोऊ ॥
Ėk nām le manėh paro▫ū.
who weaves the One Name into his heart.
|
ਯਯਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਨ ਹਾਰੀਐ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੀ ਟੇਕ ॥
यया जनमु न हारीऐ गुर पूरे की टेक ॥
Ya▫yā janam na hārī▫ai gur pūre kī tek.
Yaya: This human life shall not be wasted, if you take the Support of the Perfect Guru.

ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਹ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਹੀਅਰੈ ਏਕ ॥੧੪॥
नानक तिह सुखु पाइआ जा कै हीअरै एक ॥१४॥
Nānak ṯih sukẖ pā▫i▫ā jā kai hī▫arai ek. ||14||
O Nanak, one whose heart is filled with the One Lord finds peace. ||14||

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਬਸਿ ਰਹੇ ਈਤ ਊਤ ਕੇ ਮੀਤ ॥
अंतरि मन तन बसि रहे ईत ऊत के मीत ॥
Anṯar man ṯan bas rahe īṯ ūṯ ke mīṯ.
The One who dwells deep within the mind and body is your friend here and hereafter.

ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਉਪਦੇਸਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਪੀਐ ਨੀਤ ॥੧॥
गुरि पूरै उपदेसिआ नानक जपीऐ नीत ॥१॥
Gur pūrai upḏesi▫ā Nānak japī▫ai nīṯ. ||1||
The Perfect Guru has taught me, O Nanak, to chant His Name continually. ||1||

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਿਮਰਹੁ ਤਾਸੁ ਕਉ ਜੋ ਅੰਤਿ ਸਹਾਈ ਹੋਇ ॥
अनदिनु सिमरहु तासु कउ जो अंति सहाई होइ ॥
An▫ḏin simrahu ṯās ka▫o jo anṯ sahā▫ī ho▫e.
Night and day, meditate in remembrance on the One who will be your Help and Support in the end.
|
ਇਹ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਦਿਨ ਚਾਰਿ ਛਿਅ ਛਾਡਿ ਚਲਿਓ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
इह बिखिआ दिन चारि छिअ छाडि चलिओ सभु कोइ ॥
Ih bikẖi▫ā ḏin cẖār cẖẖi▫a cẖẖād cẖali▫o sabẖ ko▫e.
This poison shall last for only a few days; everyone must depart, and leave it behind.
|
ਕਾ ਕੋ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਧੀਆ ॥
का को मात पिता सुत धीआ ॥
Kā ko māṯ piṯā suṯ ḏẖī▫ā.
Who is our mother, father, son and daughter?
|
ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਕਛੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਲੀਆ ॥
ग्रिह बनिता कछु संगि न लीआ ॥
Garih baniṯā kacẖẖ sang na lī▫ā.
Household, wife, and other things shall not go along with you.
|
ਐਸੀ ਸੰਚਿ ਜੁ ਬਿਨਸਤ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
ऐसी संचि जु बिनसत नाही ॥
Aisī sancẖ jo binsaṯ nāhī.
So gather that wealth which shall never perish,
|
ਪਤਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਅਪੁਨੈ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਹੀ ॥
पति सेती अपुनै घरि जाही ॥
Paṯ seṯī apunai gẖar jāhī.
so that you may go to your true home with honor.
|
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਕਲਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਇਆ ॥
साधसंगि कलि कीरतनु गाइआ ॥
Sāḏẖsang kal kīrṯan gā▫i▫ā.
In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, those who sing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy -
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਤੇ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਆਇਆ ॥੧੫॥
नानक ते ते बहुरि न आइआ ॥१५॥
Nānak ṯe ṯe bahur na ā▫i▫ā. ||15||
O Nanak, they do not have to endure reincarnation again. ||15||

ਅਤਿ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਕੁਲੀਨ ਚਤੁਰ ਮੁਖਿ ਙਿਆਨੀ ਧਨਵੰਤ ॥
अति सुंदर कुलीन चतुर मुखि ङिआनी धनवंत ॥
Aṯ sunḏar kulīn cẖaṯur mukẖ ṇyi▫ānī ḏẖanvanṯ.
He may be very handsome, born into a highly respected family, very wise, a famous spiritual teacher, prosperous and wealthy;

ਮਿਰਤਕ ਕਹੀਅਹਿ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜਿਹ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਭਗਵੰਤ ॥੧॥
मिरतक कहीअहि नानका जिह प्रीति नही भगवंत ॥१॥
Mirṯak kahī▫ahi nānkā jih parīṯ nahī bẖagvanṯ. ||1||
but even so, he is looked upon as a corpse, O Nanak, if he does not love the Lord God. ||1||

ਙੰਙਾ ਖਟੁ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਹੋਇ ਙਿਆਤਾ ॥
ङंङा खटु सासत्र होइ ङिआता ॥
Ńańā kẖat sāsṯar ho▫e ńi▫āṯā.
NGANGA: He may be a scholar of the six Shaastras.
|
ਪੂਰਕੁ ਕੁੰਭਕ ਰੇਚਕ ਕਰਮਾਤਾ ॥
पूरकु कु्मभक रेचक करमाता ॥
Pūrak kumbẖak recẖak karmāṯā.
He may practice inhaling, exhaling and holding the breath.
|
ਙਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਤੀਰਥ ਇਸਨਾਨੀ ॥
ङिआन धिआन तीरथ इसनानी ॥
Ńi▫ān ḏẖi▫ān ṯirath isnānī.
He may practice spiritual wisdom, meditation, pilgrimages to sacred shrines and ritual cleansing baths.
|
ਸੋਮਪਾਕ ਅਪਰਸ ਉਦਿਆਨੀ ॥
सोमपाक अपरस उदिआनी ॥
Sompāk apras uḏi▫ānī.
He may cook his own food, and never touch anyone else's; he may live in the wilderness like a hermit.
|
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਨਿ ਨਹੀ ਹੇਤਾ ॥
राम नाम संगि मनि नही हेता ॥
Rām nām sang man nahī heṯā.
But if he does not enshrine love for the Lord's Name within his heart,
|
ਜੋ ਕਛੁ ਕੀਨੋ ਸੋਊ ਅਨੇਤਾ ॥
जो कछु कीनो सोऊ अनेता ॥
Jo kacẖẖ kīno so▫ū aneṯā.
then everything he does is transitory.
|
ਉਆ ਤੇ ਊਤਮੁ ਗਨਉ ਚੰਡਾਲਾ ॥
उआ ते ऊतमु गनउ चंडाला ॥
U▫ā ṯe ūṯam gan▫o cẖandalā.
Even an untouchable pariah is superior to him,
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਹ ਮਨਿ ਬਸਹਿ ਗੁਪਾਲਾ ॥੧੬॥
नानक जिह मनि बसहि गुपाला ॥१६॥
Nānak jih man basėh gupālā. ||16||
O Nanak, if the Lord of the World abides in his mind. ||16||

ਕੁੰਟ ਚਾਰਿ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਭ੍ਰਮੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਕੀ ਰੇਖ ॥
कुंट चारि दह दिसि भ्रमे करम किरति की रेख ॥
Kunt cẖār ḏah ḏis bẖarame karam kiraṯ kī rekẖ.
He wanders around in the four quarters and in the ten directions, according to the dictates of his karma.

ਸੂਖ ਦੂਖ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਲਿਖਿਓ ਲੇਖ ॥੧॥
सूख दूख मुकति जोनि नानक लिखिओ लेख ॥१॥
Sūkẖ ḏūkẖ mukaṯ jon Nānak likẖi▫o lekẖ. ||1||
Pleasure and pain, liberation and reincarnation, O Nanak, come according to one's pre-ordained destiny. ||1||

ਪਵੜੀ ॥

Pauree:

ਕਕਾ ਕਾਰਨ ਕਰਤਾ ਸੋਊ ॥
कका कारन करता सोऊ ॥
Kakā kāran karṯā so▫ū.
KAKKA: He is the Creator, the Cause of causes.
|
ਲਿਖਿਓ ਲੇਖੁ ਨ ਮੇਟਤ ਕੋਊ ॥
लिखिओ लेखु न मेटत कोऊ ॥
Likẖi▫o lekẖ na metaṯ ko▫ū.
No one can erase His pre-ordained plan.
|
ਨਹੀ ਹੋਤ ਕਛੁ ਦੋਊ ਬਾਰਾ ॥
नही होत कछु दोऊ बारा ॥
Nahī hoṯ kacẖẖ ḏo▫ū bārā.
Nothing can be done a second time.
|
ਕਰਨੈਹਾਰੁ ਨ ਭੂਲਨਹਾਰਾ ॥
करनैहारु न भूलनहारा ॥
Karnaihār na bẖūlanhārā.
The Creator Lord does not make mistakes.
|
ਕਾਹੂ ਪੰਥੁ ਦਿਖਾਰੈ ਆਪੈ ॥
काहू पंथु दिखारै आपै ॥
Kāhū panth ḏikẖārai āpai.
To some, He Himself shows the Way.
|
ਕਾਹੂ ਉਦਿਆਨ ਭ੍ਰਮਤ ਪਛੁਤਾਪੈ ॥
काहू उदिआन भ्रमत पछुतापै ॥
Kāhū uḏi▫ān bẖarmaṯ pacẖẖuṯāpai.
While He causes others to wander miserably in the wilderness.
|
ਆਪਨ ਖੇਲੁ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕੀਨੋ ॥
आपन खेलु आप ही कीनो ॥
Āpan kẖel āp hī kīno.
He Himself has set His own play in motion.
|
ਜੋ ਜੋ ਦੀਨੋ ਸੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਲੀਨੋ ॥੧੭॥
जो जो दीनो सु नानक लीनो ॥१७॥
Jo jo ḏīno so Nānak līno. ||17||
Whatever He gives, O Nanak, that is what we receive. ||17||

ਖਾਤ ਖਰਚਤ ਬਿਲਛਤ ਰਹੇ ਟੂਟਿ ਨ ਜਾਹਿ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥
खात खरचत बिलछत रहे टूटि न जाहि भंडार ॥
Kẖāṯ kẖarcẖaṯ bilcẖẖaṯ rahe tūt na jāhi bẖandār.
People continue to eat and consume and enjoy, but the Lord's warehouses are never exhausted.
|
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਤ ਅਨੇਕ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਹਿ ਸੁਮਾਰ ॥੧॥
हरि हरि जपत अनेक जन नानक नाहि सुमार ॥१॥
Har har japaṯ anek jan Nānak nāhi sumār. ||1||
So many chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har; O Nanak, they cannot be counted. ||1||

ਖਖਾ ਖੂਨਾ ਕਛੁ ਨਹੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਸੰਮ੍ਰਥ ਕੈ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
खखा खूना कछु नही तिसु सम्रथ कै पाहि ॥
Kẖakẖā kẖūnā kacẖẖ nahī ṯis samrath kai pāhi.
KHAKHA: The All-powerful Lord lacks nothing;
|
ਜੋ ਦੇਨਾ ਸੋ ਦੇ ਰਹਿਓ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਹ ਤਹ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
जो देना सो दे रहिओ भावै तह तह जाहि ॥
Jo ḏenā so ḏe rahi▫o bẖāvai ṯah ṯah jāhi.
whatever He is to give, He continues to give - let anyone go anywhere he pleases.
|
ਖਰਚੁ ਖਜਾਨਾ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਇਆ ਭਗਤਨ ਕੀ ਰਾਸਿ ॥
खरचु खजाना नाम धनु इआ भगतन की रासि ॥
Kẖaracẖ kẖajānā nām ḏẖan i▫ā bẖagṯan kī rās.
The wealth of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is a treasure to spend; it is the capital of His devotees.

ਖਿਮਾ ਗਰੀਬੀ ਅਨਦ ਸਹਜ ਜਪਤ ਰਹਹਿ ਗੁਣਤਾਸ ॥
खिमा गरीबी अनद सहज जपत रहहि गुणतास ॥
Kẖimā garībī anaḏ sahj japaṯ rahėh guṇṯās.
With tolerance, humility, bliss and intuitive poise, they continue to meditate on the Lord, the Treasure of excellence.

ਖੇਲਹਿ ਬਿਗਸਹਿ ਅਨਦ ਸਿਉ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਹੋਤ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ॥
खेलहि बिगसहि अनद सिउ जा कउ होत क्रिपाल ॥
Kẖelėh bigsahi anaḏ si▫o jā ka▫o hoṯ kirpāl.
Those, unto whom the Lord shows His Mercy, play happily and blossom forth.

ਸਦੀਵ ਗਨੀਵ ਸੁਹਾਵਨੇ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਮਾਲ ॥
सदीव गनीव सुहावने राम नाम ग्रिहि माल ॥
Saḏīv ganīv suhāvane rām nām garihi māl.
Those who have the wealth of the Lord's Name in their homes are forever wealthy and beautiful.

ਖੇਦੁ ਨ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਡਾਨੁ ਤਿਹ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੀ ॥
खेदु न दूखु न डानु तिह जा कउ नदरि करी ॥
Kẖeḏ na ḏūkẖ na dān ṯih jā ka▫o naḏar karī.
Those who are blessed with the Lord's Glance of Grace suffer neither torture, nor pain, nor punishment.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਣਿਆ ਪੂਰੀ ਤਿਨਾ ਪਰੀ ॥੧੮॥
नानक जो प्रभ भाणिआ पूरी तिना परी ॥१८॥
Nānak jo parabẖ bẖāṇi▫ā pūrī ṯinā parī. ||18||
O Nanak, those who are pleasing to God become perfectly successful. ||18||
