ਜੇਹੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਤੇਹਾ ਤਿਨ ਰਾਹੁ
जेही सुरति तेहा तिन राहु ॥
Jehī suraṯ ṯehā ṯin rāhu.
As is the consciousness, so is their way.

ਲੇਖਾ ਇਕੋ ਆਵਹੁ ਜਾਹੁ ॥੧॥
लेखा इको आवहु जाहु ॥१॥
Lekẖā iko āvhu jāhu. ||1||
He alone (call mortals) to account (and subject) to his order they come and go.

ਕਾਹੇ ਜੀਅ ਕਰਹਿ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ
काहे जीअ करहि चतुराई ॥
Kāhe jī▫a karahi cẖaṯurā▫ī.
O mortals! why dost thou practise cleverness?

ਲੇਵੈ ਦੇਵੈ ਢਿਲ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
लेवै देवै ढिल न पाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Levai ḏevai dẖil na pā▫ī. ||1|| rahā▫o.
In taking back and giving God makes no delay. Pause.

ਤੇਰੇ ਜੀਅ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਤੋਹਿ
तेरे जीअ जीआ का तोहि ॥
Ŧere jī▫a jī▫ā kā ṯohi.
The beings are Thine and Thou art their (Master).

ਕਿਤ ਕਉ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਆਵਹਿ ਰੋਹਿ
कित कउ साहिब आवहि रोहि ॥
Kiṯ ka▫o sāhib āvahi rohi.
What for art Thou then enraged with them, O Lord?

ਜੇ ਤੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਆਵਹਿ ਰੋਹਿ
जे तू साहिब आवहि रोहि ॥
Je ṯū sāhib āvahi rohi.
If Thou in rage be O Lord!

ਤੂ ਓਨਾ ਕਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਓਹਿ ॥੨॥
तू ओना का तेरे ओहि ॥२॥
Ŧū onā kā ṯere ohi. ||2||
Still Thou art theirs and they are Thine.

ਅਸੀ ਬੋਲਵਿਗਾੜ ਵਿਗਾੜਹ ਬੋਲ
असी बोलविगाड़ विगाड़ह बोल ॥
Asī bolvigāṛ vigāṛah bol.
We the foul-tongued spoil every thing by (our thoughtless) words.

ਤੂ ਨਦਰੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਤੋਲਹਿ ਤੋਲ
तू नदरी अंदरि तोलहि तोल ॥
Ŧū naḏrī anḏar ṯolėh ṯol.
Within Thy sight, Thou weighest their weight (worth).

ਜਹ ਕਰਣੀ ਤਹ ਪੂਰੀ ਮਤਿ
जह करणी तह पूरी मति ॥
Jah karṇī ṯah pūrī maṯ.
Where the deeds are virtuous, there is the perfect understanding.

ਕਰਣੀ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਘਟੇ ਘਟਿ ॥੩॥
करणी बाझहु घटे घटि ॥३॥
Karṇī bājẖahu gẖate gẖat. ||3||
Sans meritorious actions, it is awfully deficient.

ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੈਸਾ ਹੋਇ
प्रणवति नानक गिआनी कैसा होइ ॥
Paraṇvaṯ Nānak gi▫ānī kaisā ho▫e.
Supplicates Nanak, of what king is the man of Divine knowledge?

ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਸੋਇ
आपु पछाणै बूझै सोइ ॥
Āp pacẖẖāṇai būjẖai so▫e.
He who recognises his ownself comprehends Him.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਕਰੇ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ
गुर परसादि करे बीचारु ॥
Gur parsāḏ kare bīcẖār.
The one who by Guru's grace, embraces Lord's meditation,

ਸੋ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥੪॥੩੦॥
सो गिआनी दरगह परवाणु ॥४॥३०॥
So gi▫ānī ḏargėh parvāṇ. ||4||30||
becomes acceptable in His court.

ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ ਘਰੁ
सिरीरागु महला १ घरु ४ ॥
Sirīrāg mėhlā 1 gẖar 4.

ਤੂ ਦਰੀਆਉ ਦਾਨਾ ਬੀਨਾ ਮੈ ਮਛੁਲੀ ਕੈਸੇ ਅੰਤੁ ਲਹਾ
तू दरीआउ दाना बीना मै मछुली कैसे अंतु लहा ॥
Ŧū ḏarī▫ā▫o ḏānā bīnā mai macẖẖulī kaise anṯ lahā.
Thou art the River, All-knowing and All-seeing. How can I, a fish, find Thy limit?

ਜਹ ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਤਹ ਤੂ ਹੈ ਤੁਝ ਤੇ ਨਿਕਸੀ ਫੂਟਿ ਮਰਾ ॥੧॥
जह जह देखा तह तह तू है तुझ ते निकसी फूटि मरा ॥१॥
Jah jah ḏekẖā ṯah ṯah ṯū hai ṯujẖ ṯe niksī fūt marā. ||1||
Wherever I look there Thou art. Getting out of Thee I burst and die.

ਜਾਣਾ ਮੇਉ ਜਾਣਾ ਜਾਲੀ
न जाणा मेउ न जाणा जाली ॥
Na jāṇā me▫o na jāṇā jālī.
I know not the fisherman, nor do I know the net.

ਜਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਤਾ ਤੁਝੈ ਸਮਾਲੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
जा दुखु लागै ता तुझै समाली ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Jā ḏukẖ lāgai ṯā ṯujẖai samālī. ||1|| rahā▫o.
When pain comes, then do I call on Thee. Pause.

ਤੂ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਮੈ ਦੂਰਿ
तू भरपूरि जानिआ मै दूरि ॥
Ŧū bẖarpūr jāni▫ā mai ḏūr.
Thou art Omnipresent, I thought Thee distant.

ਜੋ ਕਛੁ ਕਰੀ ਸੁ ਤੇਰੈ ਹਦੂਰਿ
जो कछु करी सु तेरै हदूरि ॥
Jo kacẖẖ karī so ṯerai haḏūr.
Whatever I do that is in Thine presence.

ਤੂ ਦੇਖਹਿ ਹਉ ਮੁਕਰਿ ਪਾਉ
तू देखहि हउ मुकरि पाउ ॥
Ŧū ḏekẖėh ha▫o mukar pā▫o.
Thou seest my actions, yet I deny.

ਤੇਰੈ ਕੰਮਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਇ ॥੨॥
तेरै कमि न तेरै नाइ ॥२॥
Ŧerai kamm na ṯerai nā▫e. ||2||
I have not performed Thy service, nor have I pondered on Thy Name.

ਜੇਤਾ ਦੇਹਿ ਤੇਤਾ ਹਉ ਖਾਉ
जेता देहि तेता हउ खाउ ॥
Jeṯā ḏėh ṯeṯā ha▫o kẖā▫o.
Whatever Thou givest me, that I eat.

ਬਿਆ ਦਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੈ ਦਰਿ ਜਾਉ
बिआ दरु नाही कै दरि जाउ ॥
Bi▫ā ḏar nāhī kai ḏar jā▫o.
There is no other door, to which door should I go?

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਏਕ ਕਹੈ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ
नानकु एक कहै अरदासि ॥
Nānak ek kahai arḏās.
Nanak makes one supplication,

ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਤੇਰੈ ਪਾਸਿ ॥੩॥
जीउ पिंडु सभु तेरै पासि ॥३॥
Jī▫o pind sabẖ ṯerai pās. ||3||
my soul and body are all at Thy disposal.

ਆਪੇ ਨੇੜੈ ਦੂਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਆਪੇ ਮੰਝਿ ਮਿਆਨੋੁ
आपे नेड़ै दूरि आपे ही आपे मंझि मिआनो ॥
Āpe neṛai ḏūr āpe hī āpe manjẖ mi▫āno.
The Lord Himself is near Himself far off, and Himself mid-between.

ਆਪੇ ਵੇਖੈ ਸੁਣੇ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਜਹਾਨੋੁ
आपे वेखै सुणे आपे ही कुदरति करे जहानो ॥
Āpe vekẖai suṇe āpe hī kuḏraṯ kare jahāno.
He Himself beholds and Himself hears, By His own might He creates the world.

ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਸੋਈ ਪਰਵਾਨੋੁ ॥੪॥੩੧॥
जो तिसु भावै नानका हुकमु सोई परवानो ॥४॥३१॥
Jo ṯis bẖāvai nānkā hukam so▫ī parvāno. ||4||31||
Whatever pleases Him O Nanak! that order is acceptable.

ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ ਘਰੁ
सिरीरागु महला १ घरु ४ ॥
Sirīrāg mėhlā 1 gẖar 4.
Sri Rag, First Guru.

ਕੀਤਾ ਕਹਾ ਕਰੇ ਮਨਿ ਮਾਨੁ
कीता कहा करे मनि मानु ॥
Kīṯā kahā kare man mān.
Why should the created one take pride within his mind.

ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰੇ ਕੈ ਹਥਿ ਦਾਨੁ
देवणहारे कै हथि दानु ॥
Ḏevaṇhāre kai hath ḏān.
The gift is in the power of the Giver.

ਭਾਵੈ ਦੇਇ ਦੇਈ ਸੋਇ
भावै देइ न देई सोइ ॥
Bẖāvai ḏe▫e na ḏe▫ī so▫e.
By His pleasure, He may give or may not give.

ਕੀਤੇ ਕੈ ਕਹਿਐ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
कीते कै कहिऐ किआ होइ ॥१॥
Kīṯe kai kahi▫ai ki▫ā ho▫e. ||1||
What can be done at the bidding of the created one?

ਆਪੇ ਸਚੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਚੁ
आपे सचु भावै तिसु सचु ॥
Āpe sacẖ bẖāvai ṯis sacẖ.
True He Himself is and Truth it is that he likes.

ਅੰਧਾ ਕਚਾ ਕਚੁ ਨਿਕਚੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
अंधा कचा कचु निकचु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Anḏẖā kacẖā kacẖ nikacẖ. ||1|| rahā▫o.
(Spiritually) blind is worthless (nay rather) is worthless of the worthless. Pause.

ਜਾ ਕੇ ਰੁਖ ਬਿਰਖ ਆਰਾਉ
जा के रुख बिरख आराउ ॥
Jā ke rukẖ birakẖ ārā▫o.
He, who owns forest-trees, the garden and the plants,

ਜੇਹੀ ਧਾਤੁ ਤੇਹਾ ਤਿਨ ਨਾਉ
जेही धातु तेहा तिन नाउ ॥
Jehī ḏẖāṯ ṯehā ṯin nā▫o.
gives then such names as is their inherent nature.

ਫੁਲੁ ਭਾਉ ਫਲੁ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਪਾਇ
फुलु भाउ फलु लिखिआ पाइ ॥
Ful bẖā▫o fal likẖi▫ā pā▫e.
According to the ordained destiny the mortal attains the flower and fruit of Lord's love.

ਆਪਿ ਬੀਜਿ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਖਾਇ ॥੨॥
आपि बीजि आपे ही खाइ ॥२॥
Āp bīj āpe hī kẖā▫e. ||2||
He himself sows and himself eats (reaps).

ਕਚੀ ਕੰਧ ਕਚਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਰਾਜੁ
कची कंध कचा विचि राजु ॥
Kacẖī kanḏẖ kacẖā vicẖ rāj.
Transient (the body) wall and transient (the life) mason within it.

ਮਤਿ ਅਲੂਣੀ ਫਿਕਾ ਸਾਦੁ
मति अलूणी फिका सादु ॥
Maṯ alūṇī fikā sāḏ.
Insipid is the relish of intellect without salt (sans God's Name).

ਨਾਨਕ ਆਣੇ ਆਵੈ ਰਾਸਿ
नानक आणे आवै रासि ॥
Nānak āṇe āvai rās.
O Nanak; if the Lord does then it gets adjusted.

ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ॥੩॥੩੨॥
विणु नावै नाही साबासि ॥३॥३२॥
viṇ nāvai nāhī sābās. ||3||32||
Without God's Name, there is no acclamation.

ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ ਘਰੁ
सिरीरागु महला १ घरु ५ ॥
Sirīrāg mėhlā 1 gẖar 5.

ਅਛਲ ਛਲਾਈ ਨਹ ਛਲੈ ਨਹ ਘਾਉ ਕਟਾਰਾ ਕਰਿ ਸਕੈ
अछल छलाई नह छलै नह घाउ कटारा करि सकै ॥
Acẖẖal cẖẖalā▫ī nah cẖẖalai nah gẖā▫o katārā kar sakai.
The undeceivable (mammon) can not be deceived by deceiving, nor can a dagger inflict wound (on it.)

ਜਿਉ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਹੈ ਇਸੁ ਲੋਭੀ ਕਾ ਜੀਉ ਟਲ ਪਲੈ ॥੧॥
जिउ साहिबु राखै तिउ रहै इसु लोभी का जीउ टल पलै ॥१॥
Ji▫o sāhib rākẖai ṯi▫o rahai is lobẖī kā jī▫o tal palai. ||1||
As the Lord keeps it, so does it live. (under its influence,) the mind of this greedy man is tossed about.

ਬਿਨੁ ਤੇਲ ਦੀਵਾ ਕਿਉ ਜਲੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
बिनु तेल दीवा किउ जलै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Bin ṯel ḏīvā ki▫o jalai. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Without oil how can the lamp be lighted? Pause.

ਪੋਥੀ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਕਮਾਈਐ
पोथी पुराण कमाईऐ ॥
Pothī purāṇ kamā▫ī▫ai.
Let the practise of reciting the religious booms

ਭਉ ਵਟੀ ਇਤੁ ਤਨਿ ਪਾਈਐ
भउ वटी इतु तनि पाईऐ ॥
Bẖa▫o vatī iṯ ṯan pā▫ī▫ai.
be the oil and the fear of of Lord be the wick of this body (lamp).

ਸਚੁ ਬੂਝਣੁ ਆਣਿ ਜਲਾਈਐ ॥੨॥
सचु बूझणु आणि जलाईऐ ॥२॥
Sacẖ būjẖaṇ āṇ jalā▫ī▫ai. ||2||
Light this lamp with the fire of the knowledge of the Truth.

ਇਹੁ ਤੇਲੁ ਦੀਵਾ ਇਉ ਜਲੈ
इहु तेलु दीवा इउ जलै ॥
Ih ṯel ḏīvā i▫o jalai.
With this oil thus shall(thy) lamp burn.

ਕਰਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਤਉ ਮਿਲੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
करि चानणु साहिब तउ मिलै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Kar cẖānaṇ sāhib ṯa▫o milai. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Make such light and then shalt thou meet the Lord. Pause.

ਇਤੁ ਤਨਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਬਾਣੀਆ
इतु तनि लागै बाणीआ ॥
Iṯ ṯan lāgai bāṇī▫ā.
When the Word (of His Name) softens this body soul,

ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੇਵ ਕਮਾਣੀਆ
सुखु होवै सेव कमाणीआ ॥
Sukẖ hovai sev kamāṇī▫ā.
and service is performed happiness is obtained.6
