ਅਮਲੁ ਕਰਿ ਧਰਤੀ ਬੀਜੁ ਸਬਦੋ ਕਰਿ ਸਚ ਕੀ ਆਬ ਨਿਤ ਦੇਹਿ ਪਾਣੀ ॥
अमलु करि धरती बीजु सबदो करि सच की आब नित देहि पाणी ॥
Amal kar ḏẖarṯī bīj sabḏo kar sacẖ kī āb niṯ ḏėh pāṇī.
Make pious deeds thy farm, Guru's Word do thou make thy seed and ever irrigate with the water of truth.

ਹੋਇ ਕਿਰਸਾਣੁ ਈਮਾਨੁ ਜੰਮਾਇ ਲੈ ਭਿਸਤੁ ਦੋਜਕੁ ਮੂੜੇ ਏਵ ਜਾਣੀ ॥੧॥
होइ किरसाणु ईमानु जमाइ लै भिसतु दोजकु मूड़े एव जाणी ॥१॥
Ho▫e kirsāṇ īmān jammā▫e lai bẖisaṯ ḏojak mūṛe ev jāṇī. ||1||
Become a husbandman and thy faith shall germinate. O fool! know thus, thy paradise and hell.

ਮਤੁ ਜਾਣ ਸਹਿ ਗਲੀ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
मतु जाण सहि गली पाइआ ॥
Maṯ jāṇ sėh galī pā▫i▫ā.
Deem not that the Spouse is obtained by mere words.
|
ਮਾਲ ਕੈ ਮਾਣੈ ਰੂਪ ਕੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਇਤੁ ਬਿਧੀ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
माल कै माणै रूप की सोभा इतु बिधी जनमु गवाइआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Māl kai māṇai rūp kī sobẖā iṯ biḏẖī janam gavā▫i▫ā. ||1|| rahā▫o.
In the pride of wealth and the splendour of beauty, in this way thou hast lost thy life. Pause.

ਐਬ ਤਨਿ ਚਿਕੜੋ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਮੀਡਕੋ ਕਮਲ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਨਹੀ ਮੂਲਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
ऐब तनि चिकड़ो इहु मनु मीडको कमल की सार नही मूलि पाई ॥
Aib ṯan cẖikṛo ih man mīdko kamal kī sār nahī mūl pā▫ī.
The sin of the body is the puddle and this soul the frog, which values not at all the lotus-flower.

ਭਉਰੁ ਉਸਤਾਦੁ ਨਿਤ ਭਾਖਿਆ ਬੋਲੇ ਕਿਉ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਾ ਨਹ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੨॥
भउरु उसतादु नित भाखिआ बोले किउ बूझै जा नह बुझाई ॥२॥
Bẖa▫ur usṯāḏ niṯ bẖākẖi▫ā bole ki▫o būjẖai jā nah bujẖā▫ī. ||2||
Guru, the bumble -bee ever repeats the Divine sermons but how can man understand them, when (God) does not make him understand?

ਆਖਣੁ ਸੁਨਣਾ ਪਉਣ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਰਤਾ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
आखणु सुनणा पउण की बाणी इहु मनु रता माइआ ॥
Ākẖaṇ sunṇā pa▫uṇ kī baṇī ih man raṯā mā▫i▫ā.
The preaching and listening of religious discourse is like the sough of wind for those, whose soul is tinctured with mammon.

ਖਸਮ ਕੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਦਿਲਹਿ ਪਸਿੰਦੇ ਜਿਨੀ ਕਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥੩॥
खसम की नदरि दिलहि पसिंदे जिनी करि एकु धिआइआ ॥३॥
Kẖasam kī naḏar dilahi pasinḏe jinī kar ek ḏẖi▫ā▫i▫ā. ||3||
Centering their attention on the Husband alone, those who meditate on Him; His grace descends on them and they become pleasing to His heart.

ਤੀਹ ਕਰਿ ਰਖੇ ਪੰਜ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਥੀ ਨਾਉ ਸੈਤਾਨੁ ਮਤੁ ਕਟਿ ਜਾਈ ॥
तीह करि रखे पंज करि साथी नाउ सैतानु मतु कटि जाई ॥
Ŧīh kar rakẖe panj kar sāthī nā▫o saiṯān maṯ kat jā▫ī.
Even though thou keepest thirty (fasts) and takest with the five comrades (i.e. the five prayers) but beware, lest the one, who goes by the name of Satan should undo their merit.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਆਖੈ ਰਾਹਿ ਪੈ ਚਲਣਾ ਮਾਲੁ ਧਨੁ ਕਿਤ ਕੂ ਸੰਜਿਆਹੀ ॥੪॥੨੭॥
नानकु आखै राहि पै चलणा मालु धनु कित कू संजिआही ॥४॥२७॥
Nānak ākẖai rāhi pai cẖalṇā māl ḏẖan kiṯ kū sanji▫āhī. ||4||27||
Says, Nanak, thou hast to go the way (of death). What for hast thou amassed property and wealth?

ਸੋਈ ਮਉਲਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਗੁ ਮਉਲਿਆ ਹਰਿਆ ਕੀਆ ਸੰਸਾਰੋ ॥
सोई मउला जिनि जगु मउलिआ हरिआ कीआ संसारो ॥
So▫ī ma▫ulā jin jag ma▫oli▫ā hari▫ā kī▫ā sansāro.
He is the Master who has make the world blossom and reverdured the universe.

ਆਬ ਖਾਕੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਬੰਧਿ ਰਹਾਈ ਧੰਨੁ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰੋ ॥੧॥
आब खाकु जिनि बंधि रहाई धंनु सिरजणहारो ॥१॥
Āb kẖāk jin banḏẖ rahā▫ī ḏẖan sirjaṇhāro. ||1||
Hall! unto the Creator who has kept in bondage the water and land.
|
ਮਰਣਾ ਮੁਲਾ ਮਰਣਾ ॥
मरणा मुला मरणा ॥
Marṇā mulā marṇā.
Death, O Maulvi! death must come.
|
ਭੀ ਕਰਤਾਰਹੁ ਡਰਣਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
भी करतारहु डरणा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Bẖī karṯārahu darṇā. ||1|| rahā▫o.
All the same abide in the fear of the Maker. Pause.
|
ਤਾ ਤੂ ਮੁਲਾ ਤਾ ਤੂ ਕਾਜੀ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਖੁਦਾਈ ॥
ता तू मुला ता तू काजी जाणहि नामु खुदाई ॥
Ŧā ṯū mulā ṯā ṯū kājī jāṇėh nām kẖuḏā▫ī.
Then alone thou art a Mullah or then alone art a Qazi, if thou knowest the name of God.
|
ਜੇ ਬਹੁਤੇਰਾ ਪੜਿਆ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਕੋ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਭਰੀਐ ਪਾਈ ॥੨॥
जे बहुतेरा पड़िआ होवहि को रहै न भरीऐ पाई ॥२॥
Je bahuṯerā paṛi▫ā hovėh ko rahai na bẖarī▫ai pā▫ī. ||2||
Even though man be very learned none can stay here when his measured of life becomes full.

ਸੋਈ ਕਾਜੀ ਜਿਨਿ ਆਪੁ ਤਜਿਆ ਇਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਕੀਆ ਆਧਾਰੋ ॥
सोई काजी जिनि आपु तजिआ इकु नामु कीआ आधारो ॥
So▫ī kājī jin āp ṯaji▫ā ik nām kī▫ā āḏẖāro.
He is the Qazi who has renounced self-conceit and made the name of God alone his support.
|
ਹੈ ਭੀ ਹੋਸੀ ਜਾਇ ਨ ਜਾਸੀ ਸਚਾ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰੋ ॥੩॥
है भी होसी जाइ न जासी सचा सिरजणहारो ॥३॥
Hai bẖī hosī jā▫e na jāsī sacẖā sirjaṇhāro. ||3||
That True Creator, is and shall also, be, was not born and shall not perish.
|
ਪੰਜ ਵਖਤ ਨਿਵਾਜ ਗੁਜਾਰਹਿ ਪੜਹਿ ਕਤੇਬ ਕੁਰਾਣਾ ॥
पंज वखत निवाज गुजारहि पड़हि कतेब कुराणा ॥
Panj vakẖaṯ nivāj gujārėh paṛėh kaṯeb kurāṇā.
Thou recitest prayer five times a day and readest holy books ant the Quran.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਆਖੈ ਗੋਰ ਸਦੇਈ ਰਹਿਓ ਪੀਣਾ ਖਾਣਾ ॥੪॥੨੮॥
नानकु आखै गोर सदेई रहिओ पीणा खाणा ॥४॥२८॥
Nānak ākẖai gor saḏe▫ī rahi▫o pīṇā kẖāṇā. ||4||28||
Says Nanak, the grave calls thee and now thine food and drink have come to an end.

ਏਕੁ ਸੁਆਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਸੁਆਨੀ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
एकु सुआनु दुइ सुआनी नालि ॥
Ėk su▫ān ḏu▫e su▫ānī nāl.
I have a dog and two bitches with me.
|
ਭਲਕੇ ਭਉਕਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਬਇਆਲਿ ॥
भलके भउकहि सदा बइआलि ॥
Bẖalke bẖa▫ukahi saḏā ba▫i▫āl.
Early in the morn, they ever bark at the wind.
|
ਕੂੜੁ ਛੁਰਾ ਮੁਠਾ ਮੁਰਦਾਰੁ ॥
कूड़ु छुरा मुठा मुरदारु ॥
Kūṛ cẖẖurā muṯẖā murḏār.
Falsehood is my dagger and to eat by defrauding is carrion.
|
ਧਾਣਕ ਰੂਪਿ ਰਹਾ ਕਰਤਾਰ ॥੧॥
धाणक रूपि रहा करतार ॥१॥
Ḏẖāṇak rūp rahā karṯār. ||1||
I live in the form of a hunts man, O Creator!
|
ਮੈ ਪਤਿ ਕੀ ਪੰਦਿ ਨ ਕਰਣੀ ਕੀ ਕਾਰ ॥
मै पति की पंदि न करणी की कार ॥
Mai paṯ kī panḏ na karṇī kī kār.
I follow not the counsel of my Spouse nor do I good deeds.
|
ਹਉ ਬਿਗੜੈ ਰੂਪਿ ਰਹਾ ਬਿਕਰਾਲ ॥
हउ बिगड़ै रूपि रहा बिकराल ॥
Ha▫o bigṛai rūp rahā bikrāl.
I appear deformed and terrible.
|
ਤੇਰਾ ਏਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਤਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥
तेरा एकु नामु तारे संसारु ॥
Ŧerā ek nām ṯāre sansār.
Thy Name alone saves the world.
|
ਮੈ ਏਹਾ ਆਸ ਏਹੋ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
मै एहा आस एहो आधारु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Mai ehā ās eho āḏẖār. ||1|| rahā▫o.
This alone is my hope and this the mainstay. Pause.
|
ਮੁਖਿ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਆਖਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ॥
मुखि निंदा आखा दिनु राति ॥
Mukẖ ninḏā ākẖā ḏin rāṯ.
With my mouth, I utter calumny day and night.
|
ਪਰ ਘਰੁ ਜੋਹੀ ਨੀਚ ਸਨਾਤਿ ॥
पर घरु जोही नीच सनाति ॥
Par gẖar johī nīcẖ sanāṯ.
I am base and a wretch and spy other's house.
|
ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਤਨਿ ਵਸਹਿ ਚੰਡਾਲ ॥
कामु क्रोधु तनि वसहि चंडाल ॥
Kām kroḏẖ ṯan vasėh cẖandāl.
Lust and wrath, the pariahs, abide in my body.
|
ਧਾਣਕ ਰੂਪਿ ਰਹਾ ਕਰਤਾਰ ॥੨॥
धाणक रूपि रहा करतार ॥२॥
Ḏẖāṇak rūp rahā karṯār. ||2||
I live in the form of huntsman, O Creator!
|
ਫਾਹੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਮਲੂਕੀ ਵੇਸੁ ॥
फाही सुरति मलूकी वेसु ॥
Fāhī suraṯ malūkī ves.
I am gentle in appearance, but my intent is to entrap others.
|
ਹਉ ਠਗਵਾੜਾ ਠਗੀ ਦੇਸੁ ॥
हउ ठगवाड़ा ठगी देसु ॥
Ha▫o ṯẖagvāṛā ṯẖagī ḏes.
I am a cheat and cheat the country (world).
|
ਖਰਾ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਭਾਰੁ ॥
खरा सिआणा बहुता भारु ॥
Kẖarā si▫āṇā bahuṯā bẖār.
I am very clever and carry the great load of sin.
|
ਧਾਣਕ ਰੂਪਿ ਰਹਾ ਕਰਤਾਰ ॥੩॥
धाणक रूपि रहा करतार ॥३॥
Ḏẖāṇak rūp rahā karṯār. ||3||
I live in the form of huntsman, O Creator!
|
ਮੈ ਕੀਤਾ ਨ ਜਾਤਾ ਹਰਾਮਖੋਰੁ ॥
मै कीता न जाता हरामखोरु ॥
Mai kīṯā na jāṯā harāmkẖor.
I, a partaker of other's wealth, have not appreciated what Thou hast done for me.
|
ਹਉ ਕਿਆ ਮੁਹੁ ਦੇਸਾ ਦੁਸਟੁ ਚੋਰੁ ॥
हउ किआ मुहु देसा दुसटु चोरु ॥
Ha▫o ki▫ā muhu ḏesā ḏusat cẖor.
What face shall, I a villainous thief show Thee, O Lord?
|
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਨੀਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
नानकु नीचु कहै बीचारु ॥
Nānak nīcẖ kahai bīcẖār.
Nanak the lowly sayeth this thought.
|
ਧਾਣਕ ਰੂਪਿ ਰਹਾ ਕਰਤਾਰ ॥੪॥੨੯॥
धाणक रूपि रहा करतार ॥४॥२९॥
Ḏẖāṇak rūp rahā karṯār. ||4||29||
I live in the form of huntsman, O Creator!

ਏਕਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੇਤੇ ਹੈ ਜੀਅ ॥
एका सुरति जेते है जीअ ॥
Ėkā suraṯ jeṯe hai jī▫a.
There is the same inner conscious-ness amongst all the beings.
|
ਸੁਰਤਿ ਵਿਹੂਣਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਕੀਅ ॥
सुरति विहूणा कोइ न कीअ ॥
Suraṯ vihūṇā ko▫e na kī▫a.
Without inner consciousness He has created none.5
