ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
गुरमुखि विचहु हउमै जाइ ॥
Gurmukẖ vicẖahu ha▫umai jā▫e.
The Gurmukh eradicates egotism from within.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਆਇ ॥
गुरमुखि मैलु न लागै आइ ॥
Gurmukẖ mail na lāgai ā▫e.
No filth sticks to the Gurmukh.
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੨॥
गुरमुखि नामु वसै मनि आइ ॥२॥
Gurmukẖ nām vasai man ā▫e. ||2||
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, comes to dwell within the mind of the Gurmukh. ||2||
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਸਚਿ ਹੋਈ ॥
गुरमुखि करम धरम सचि होई ॥
Gurmukẖ karam ḏẖaram sacẖ ho▫ī.
Through karma and Dharma, good actions and righteous faith, the Gurmukh becomes true.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ਜਲਾਏ ਦੋਈ ॥
गुरमुखि अहंकारु जलाए दोई ॥
Gurmukẖ ahaʼnkār jalā▫e ḏo▫ī.
The Gurmukh burns away egotism and duality.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੩॥
गुरमुखि नामि रते सुखु होई ॥३॥
Gurmukẖ nām raṯe sukẖ ho▫ī. ||3||
The Gurmukh is attuned to the Naam, and is at peace. ||3||
|
ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨੁ ਪਰਬੋਧਹੁ ਬੂਝਹੁ ਸੋਈ ॥
आपणा मनु परबोधहु बूझहु सोई ॥
Āpṇā man parboḏẖahu būjẖhu so▫ī.
Instruct your own mind, and understand Him.
|
ਲੋਕ ਸਮਝਾਵਹੁ ਸੁਣੇ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
लोक समझावहु सुणे न कोई ॥
Lok samjẖāvhu suṇe na ko▫ī.
You may preach to other people, but no one will listen.
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਮਝਹੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੪॥
गुरमुखि समझहु सदा सुखु होई ॥४॥
Gurmukẖ samjẖahu saḏā sukẖ ho▫ī. ||4||
The Gurmukh understands, and is always at peace. ||4||
|
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਡੰਫੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥
मनमुखि ड्मफु बहुतु चतुराई ॥
Manmukẖ damf bahuṯ cẖaṯurā▫ī.
The self-willed manmukhs are such clever hypocrites.
|
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਸੁ ਥਾਇ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
जो किछु कमावै सु थाइ न पाई ॥
Jo kicẖẖ kamāvai so thā▫e na pā▫ī.
No matter what they do, it is not acceptable.

ਆਵੈ ਜਾਵੈ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਕਾਈ ॥੫॥
आवै जावै ठउर न काई ॥५॥
Āvai jāvai ṯẖa▫ur na kā▫ī. ||5||
They come and go in reincarnation, and find no place of rest. ||5||
|
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੇ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨਾ ॥
मनमुख करम करे बहुतु अभिमाना ॥
Manmukẖ karam kare bahuṯ abẖimānā.
The manmukhs perform their rituals, but they are totally selfish and conceited.

ਬਗ ਜਿਉ ਲਾਇ ਬਹੈ ਨਿਤ ਧਿਆਨਾ ॥
बग जिउ लाइ बहै नित धिआना ॥
Bag ji▫o lā▫e bahai niṯ ḏẖi▫ānā.
They sit there, like storks, pretending to meditate.
|
ਜਮਿ ਪਕੜਿਆ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਪਛੁਤਾਨਾ ॥੬॥
जमि पकड़िआ तब ही पछुताना ॥६॥
Jam pakṛi▫ā ṯab hī pacẖẖuṯānā. ||6||
Caught by the Messenger of Death, they shall regret and repent in the end. ||6||
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
बिनु सतिगुर सेवे मुकति न होई ॥
Bin saṯgur seve mukaṯ na ho▫ī.
Without serving the True Guru, liberation is not obtained.
|
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮਿਲੈ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਈ ॥
गुर परसादी मिलै हरि सोई ॥
Gur parsādī milai har so▫ī.
By Guru's Grace, one meets the Lord.
|
ਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਹੋਈ ॥੭॥
गुरु दाता जुग चारे होई ॥७॥
Gur ḏāṯā jug cẖāre ho▫ī. ||7||
The Guru is the Great Giver, throughout the four ages. ||7||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਨਾਮੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
गुरमुखि जाति पति नामे वडिआई ॥
Gurmukẖ jāṯ paṯ nāme vadi▫ā▫ī.
For the Gurmukh, the Naam is social status, honor and glorious greatness.

ਸਾਇਰ ਕੀ ਪੁਤ੍ਰੀ ਬਿਦਾਰਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥
साइर की पुत्री बिदारि गवाई ॥
Sā▫ir kī puṯrī biḏār gavā▫ī.
Maya, the daughter of the ocean, has been slain.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਝੂਠੀ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥੮॥੨॥
नानक बिनु नावै झूठी चतुराई ॥८॥२॥
Nānak bin nāvai jẖūṯẖī cẖaṯurā▫ī. ||8||2||
O Nanak, without the Name, all clever tricks are false. ||8||2||

Is jug kā ḏẖaram paṛahu ṯum bẖā▫ī.
Learn the Dharma of this age, O Siblings of Destiny;

ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਭ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
पूरै गुरि सभ सोझी पाई ॥
Pūrai gur sabẖ sojẖī pā▫ī.
all understanding is obtained from the Perfect Guru.
|
ਐਥੈ ਅਗੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਖਾਈ ॥੧॥
ऐथै अगै हरि नामु सखाई ॥१॥
Aithai agai har nām sakẖā▫ī. ||1||
Here and hereafter, the Lord's Name is our Companion. ||1||

ਰਾਮ ਪੜਹੁ ਮਨਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
राम पड़हु मनि करहु बीचारु ॥
Rām paṛahu man karahu bīcẖār.
Learn of the Lord, and contemplate Him in your mind.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮੈਲੁ ਉਤਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
गुर परसादी मैलु उतारु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Gur parsādī mail uṯār. ||1|| rahā▫o.
By Guru's Grace, your filth shall be washed away. ||1||Pause||
|
ਵਾਦਿ ਵਿਰੋਧਿ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
वादि विरोधि न पाइआ जाइ ॥
vāḏ viroḏẖ na pā▫i▫ā jā▫e.
Through argument and debate, He cannot be found.
|
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਫੀਕਾ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ॥
मनु तनु फीका दूजै भाइ ॥
Man ṯan fīkā ḏūjai bẖā▫e.
The mind and body are made insipid through the love of duality.
|
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਚਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੨॥
गुर कै सबदि सचि लिव लाइ ॥२॥
Gur kai sabaḏ sacẖ liv lā▫e. ||2||
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, lovingly attune yourself to the True Lord. ||2||
|
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲਾ ਇਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
हउमै मैला इहु संसारा ॥
Ha▫umai mailā ih sansārā.
This world is polluted with egotism.
|
ਨਿਤ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਵੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਾ ॥
नित तीरथि नावै न जाइ अहंकारा ॥
Niṯ ṯirath nāvai na jā▫e ahaʼnkārā.
By taking cleansing baths daily at sacred shrines of pilgrimage, egotism is not eliminated.
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਜਮੁ ਕਰੇ ਖੁਆਰਾ ॥੩॥
बिनु गुर भेटे जमु करे खुआरा ॥३॥
Bin gur bẖete jam kare kẖu▫ārā. ||3||
Without meeting the Guru, they are tortured by Death. ||3||
|
ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਜਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੈ ॥
सो जनु साचा जि हउमै मारै ॥
So jan sācẖā jė ha▫umai mārai.
Those humble beings are true, who conquer their ego.
|
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪੰਚ ਸੰਘਾਰੈ ॥
गुर कै सबदि पंच संघारै ॥
Gur kai sabaḏ pancẖ sangẖārai.
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they conquer the five thieves.
|
ਆਪਿ ਤਰੈ ਸਗਲੇ ਕੁਲ ਤਾਰੈ ॥੪॥
आपि तरै सगले कुल तारै ॥४॥
Āp ṯarai sagle kul ṯārai. ||4||
They save themselves, and save all their generations as well. ||4||
|
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਨਟਿ ਬਾਜੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
माइआ मोहि नटि बाजी पाई ॥
Mā▫i▫ā mohi nat bājī pā▫ī.
The Actor has staged the drama of emotional attachment to Maya.
|
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅੰਧ ਰਹੇ ਲਪਟਾਈ ॥
मनमुख अंध रहे लपटाई ॥
Manmukẖ anḏẖ rahe laptā▫ī.
The self-willed manmukhs cling blindly to it.
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਲਿਪਤ ਰਹੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੫॥
गुरमुखि अलिपत रहे लिव लाई ॥५॥
Gurmukẖ alipaṯ rahe liv lā▫ī. ||5||
The Gurmukhs remain detached, and lovingly attune themselves to the Lord. ||5||
|
ਬਹੁਤੇ ਭੇਖ ਕਰੈ ਭੇਖਧਾਰੀ ॥
बहुते भेख करै भेखधारी ॥
Bahuṯe bẖekẖ karai bẖekẖ▫ḏẖārī.
The disguisers put on their various disguises.
|
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤਿਸਨਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥
अंतरि तिसना फिरै अहंकारी ॥
Anṯar ṯisnā firai ahaʼnkārī.
Desire rages within them, and they carry on egotistically.
|
ਆਪੁ ਨ ਚੀਨੈ ਬਾਜੀ ਹਾਰੀ ॥੬॥
आपु न चीनै बाजी हारी ॥६॥
Āp na cẖīnai bājī hārī. ||6||
They do not understand themselves, and they lose the game of life. ||6||
|
ਕਾਪੜ ਪਹਿਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥
कापड़ पहिरि करे चतुराई ॥
Kāpaṛ pahir kare cẖaṯurā▫ī.
Putting on religious robes, they act so clever,
|
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਅਤਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਈ ॥
माइआ मोहि अति भरमि भुलाई ॥
Mā▫i▫ā mohi aṯ bẖaram bẖulā▫ī.
but they are totally deluded by doubt and emotional attachment to Maya.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥੭॥
बिनु गुर सेवे बहुतु दुखु पाई ॥७॥
Bin gur seve bahuṯ ḏukẖ pā▫ī. ||7||
Without serving the Guru, they suffer in terrible pain. ||7||
|
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ॥
नामि रते सदा बैरागी ॥
Nām raṯe saḏā bairāgī.
Those who are attuned to the Naam, the Name of the Lord, remain detached forever.
|
ਗ੍ਰਿਹੀ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਚਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
ग्रिही अंतरि साचि लिव लागी ॥
Garihī anṯar sācẖ liv lāgī.
Even as householders, they lovingly attune themselves to the True Lord.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ॥੮॥੩॥
नानक सतिगुरु सेवहि से वडभागी ॥८॥३॥
Nānak saṯgur sevėh se vadbẖāgī. ||8||3||
O Nanak, those who serve the True Guru are blessed and very fortunate. ||8||3||

ਗਉੜੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
गउड़ी महला ३ ॥

ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਮੂਲੁ ਵੇਦ ਅਭਿਆਸਾ ॥
ब्रहमा मूलु वेद अभिआसा ॥
Barahmā mūl veḏ abẖi▫āsā.
Brahma is the founder of the study of the Vedas.
|
ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਉਪਜੇ ਦੇਵ ਮੋਹ ਪਿਆਸਾ ॥
तिस ते उपजे देव मोह पिआसा ॥
Ŧis ṯe upje ḏev moh pi▫āsā.
From him emanated the gods, enticed by desire.
|
ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਭਰਮੇ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ॥੧॥
त्रै गुण भरमे नाही निज घरि वासा ॥१॥
Ŧarai guṇ bẖarme nāhī nij gẖar vāsā. ||1||
They wander in the three qualities, and they do not dwell within their own home. ||1||
|
ਹਮ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥
हम हरि राखे सतिगुरू मिलाइआ ॥
Ham har rākẖe saṯgurū milā▫i▫ā.
The Lord has saved me; I have met the True Guru.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
अनदिनु भगति हरि नामु द्रिड़ाइआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
An▫ḏin bẖagaṯ har nām driṛ▫ā▫i▫ā. ||1|| rahā▫o.
He has implanted devotional worship of the Lord's Name, night and day. ||1||Pause||

ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਬਾਣੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਜੰਜਾਲਾ ॥
त्रै गुण बाणी ब्रहम जंजाला ॥
Ŧarai guṇ baṇī barahm janjālā.
The songs of Brahma entangle people in the three qualities.
|
ਪੜਿ ਵਾਦੁ ਵਖਾਣਹਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਮਾਰੇ ਜਮਕਾਲਾ ॥
पड़ि वादु वखाणहि सिरि मारे जमकाला ॥
Paṛ vāḏ vakāṇėh sir māre jamkālā.
Reading about the debates and disputes, they are hit over the head by the Messenger of Death.
