ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਜੀਇ ਆਈ ਕਾਰਿ ॥੧॥
Gur kī maṯ jī▫e ā▫ī kār. ||1||
The Guru's Teachings are useful to my soul. ||1||
|
ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਰਾਮ ਰਮਤ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥
In biḏẖ rām ramaṯ man māni▫ā.
Chanting the Lord's Name in this way, my mind is satisfied.
|
ਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਜਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਨਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Gi▫ān anjan gur sabaḏ pacẖẖāni▫ā. ||1|| rahā▫o.
I have obtained the ointment of spiritual wisdom, recognizing the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||1||Pause||
|
ਇਕੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥
Ik sukẖ māni▫ā sahj milā▫i▫ā.
Blended with the One Lord, I enjoy intuitive peace.
|
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਬਾਣੀ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥
Nirmal baṇī bẖaram cẖukā▫i▫ā.
Through the Immaculate Bani of the Word, my doubts have been dispelled.
|
ਲਾਲ ਭਏ ਸੂਹਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
Lāl bẖa▫e sūhā rang mā▫i▫ā.
Instead of the pale color of Maya, I am imbued with the deep crimson color of the Lord's Love.
|
ਨਦਰਿ ਭਈ ਬਿਖੁ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
Naḏar bẖa▫ī bikẖ ṯẖāk rahā▫i▫ā. ||2||
By the Lord's Glance of Grace, the poison has been eliminated. ||2||
|
ਉਲਟ ਭਈ ਜੀਵਤ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਗਿਆ ॥
Ulat bẖa▫ī jīvaṯ mar jāgi▫ā.
When I turned away, and became dead while yet alive, I was awakened.
|
ਸਬਦਿ ਰਵੇ ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗਿਆ ॥
Sabaḏ rave man har si▫o lāgi▫ā.
Chanting the Word of the Shabad, my mind is attached to the Lord.
|
ਰਸੁ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਪਰਹਰਿ ਤਿਆਗਿਆ ॥
Ras sangrahi bikẖ parhar ṯi▫āgi▫ā.
I have gathered in the Lord's sublime essence, and cast out the poison.

ਭਾਇ ਬਸੇ ਜਮ ਕਾ ਭਉ ਭਾਗਿਆ ॥੩॥
Bẖā▫e base jam kā bẖa▫o bẖāgi▫ā. ||3||
Abiding in His Love, the fear of death has run away. ||3||
|
ਸਾਦ ਰਹੇ ਬਾਦੰ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਾ ॥
Sāḏ rahe bāḏaʼn ahaʼnkārā.
My taste for pleasure ended, along with conflict and egotism.
|
ਚਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਰਾਤਾ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
Cẖiṯ har si▫o rāṯā hukam apārā.
My consciousness is attuned to the Lord, by the Order of the Infinite.
|
ਜਾਤਿ ਰਹੇ ਪਤਿ ਕੇ ਆਚਾਰਾ ॥
Jāṯ rahe paṯ ke ācẖārā.
My pursuit for worldy pride and honour is over.
|
ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਭਈ ਸੁਖੁ ਆਤਮ ਧਾਰਾ ॥੪॥
Ḏarisat bẖa▫ī sukẖ āṯam ḏẖārā. ||4||
When He blessed me with His Glance of Grace, peace was established in my soul. ||4||
|
ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਦੇਖਉ ਮੀਤੁ ॥
Ŧujẖ bin ko▫e na ḏekẖ▫a▫u mīṯ.
Without You, I see no friend at all.
|
ਕਿਸੁ ਸੇਵਉ ਕਿਸੁ ਦੇਵਉ ਚੀਤੁ ॥
Kis seva▫o kis ḏeva▫o cẖīṯ.
Whom should I serve? Unto whom should I dedicate my consciousness?
|
ਕਿਸੁ ਪੂਛਉ ਕਿਸੁ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਇ ॥
Kis pūcẖẖa▫o kis lāga▫o pā▫e.
Whom should I ask? At whose feet should I fall?
|
ਕਿਸੁ ਉਪਦੇਸਿ ਰਹਾ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੫॥
Kis upḏes rahā liv lā▫e. ||5||
By whose teachings will I remain absorbed in His Love? ||5||
|
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੀ ਗੁਰ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਇ ॥
Gur sevī gur lāga▫o pā▫e.
I serve the Guru, and I fall at the Guru's Feet.
|
ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੀ ਰਾਚਉ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਇ ॥
Bẖagaṯ karī rācẖa▫o har nā▫e.
I worship Him, and I am absorbed in the Lord's Name.
|
ਸਿਖਿਆ ਦੀਖਿਆ ਭੋਜਨ ਭਾਉ ॥
Sikẖi▫ā ḏīkẖi▫ā bẖojan bẖā▫o.
The Lord's Love is my instruction, sermon and food.
|
ਹੁਕਮਿ ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਉ ॥੬॥
Hukam sanjogī nij gẖar jā▫o. ||6||
Enjoined to the Lord's Command, I have entered the home of my inner self. ||6||
|
ਗਰਬ ਗਤੰ ਸੁਖ ਆਤਮ ਧਿਆਨਾ ॥
Garab gaṯaʼn sukẖ āṯam ḏẖi▫ānā.
With the extinction of pride, my soul has found peace and meditation.
|
ਜੋਤਿ ਭਈ ਜੋਤੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਨਾ ॥
Joṯ bẖa▫ī joṯī māhi samānā.
The Divine Light has dawned, and I am absorbed in the Light.
|
ਲਿਖਤੁ ਮਿਟੈ ਨਹੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਨੀਸਾਨਾ ॥
Likẖaṯ mitai nahī sabaḏ nīsānā.
Pre-ordained destiny cannot be erased; the Shabad is my banner and insignia.
|
ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰਣਾ ਕਰਤਾ ਜਾਨਾ ॥੭॥
Karṯā karṇā karṯā jānā. ||7||
I know the Creator, the Creator of His Creation. ||7||
|
ਨਹ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਨਹ ਚਤੁਰੁ ਸਿਆਨਾ ॥
Nah pandiṯ nah cẖaṯur si▫ānā.
I am not a learned Pandit, I am not clever or wise.
|
ਨਹ ਭੂਲੋ ਨਹ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਨਾ ॥
Nah bẖūlo nah bẖaram bẖulānā.
I do not wander; I am not deluded by doubt.
|
ਕਥਉ ਨ ਕਥਨੀ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਨਾ ॥
Katha▫o na kathnī hukam pacẖẖānā.
I do not speak empty speech; I have recognized the Hukam of His Command.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਨਾ ॥੮॥੧॥
Nānak gurmaṯ sahj samānā. ||8||1||
Nanak is absorbed in intuitive peace through the Guru's Teachings. ||8||1||

ਗਉੜੀ ਗੁਆਰੇਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥
Ga▫oṛī gu▫ārerī mėhlā 1.

ਮਨੁ ਕੁੰਚਰੁ ਕਾਇਆ ਉਦਿਆਨੈ ॥
Man kuncẖar kā▫i▫ā uḏi▫ānai.
The mind is an elephant in the forest of the body.
|
ਗੁਰੁ ਅੰਕਸੁ ਸਚੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਨੀਸਾਨੈ ॥
Gur ankas sacẖ sabaḏ nīsānai.
The Guru is the controlling stick; when the Insignia of the True Shabad is applied,
|
ਰਾਜ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਸੋਭ ਸੁ ਮਾਨੈ ॥੧॥
Rāj ḏu▫ārai sobẖ so mānai. ||1||
one obtains honor in the Court of God the King. ||1||
|
ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਨਹ ਚੀਨਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
Cẖaṯurā▫ī nah cẖīni▫ā jā▫e.
He cannot be known through clever tricks.
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਮਾਰੇ ਕਿਉ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Bin māre ki▫o kīmaṯ pā▫e. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Without subduing the mind, how can His value be estimated? ||1||Pause||

ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਤਸਕਰੁ ਲੇਈ ॥
Gẖar mėh amriṯ ṯaskar le▫ī.
In the house of the self is the Ambrosial Nectar, which is being stolen by the thieves.
|
ਨੰਨਾਕਾਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ਕਰੇਈ ॥
Nannākār na ko▫e kare▫ī.
No one can say no to them.
|
ਰਾਖੈ ਆਪਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੇਈ ॥੨॥
Rākẖai āp vadi▫ā▫ī ḏe▫ī. ||2||
He Himself protects us, and blesses us with greatness. ||2||
|
ਨੀਲ ਅਨੀਲ ਅਗਨਿ ਇਕ ਠਾਈ ॥
Nīl anīl agan ik ṯẖā▫ī.
There are billions, countless billions of fires of desire at the seat of the mind.
|
ਜਲਿ ਨਿਵਰੀ ਗੁਰਿ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
Jal nivrī gur būjẖ bujẖā▫ī.
They are extinguished only with the water of understanding, imparted by the Guru.
|
ਮਨੁ ਦੇ ਲੀਆ ਰਹਸਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਈ ॥੩॥
Man ḏe lī▫ā rahas guṇ gā▫ī. ||3||
Offering my mind, I have attained it, and I joyfully sing His Glorious Praises. ||3||
|
ਜੈਸਾ ਘਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਸੋ ਤੈਸਾ ॥
Jaisā gẖar bāhar so ṯaisā.
Just as He is within the home of the self, so is He beyond.
|
ਬੈਸਿ ਗੁਫਾ ਮਹਿ ਆਖਉ ਕੈਸਾ ॥
Bais gufā mėh ākẖa▫o kaisā.
But how can I describe Him, sitting in a cave?
|
ਸਾਗਰਿ ਡੂਗਰਿ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਐਸਾ ॥੪॥
Sāgar dūgar nirbẖa▫o aisā. ||4||
The Fearless Lord is in the oceans, just as He is in the mountains. ||4||
|
ਮੂਏ ਕਉ ਕਹੁ ਮਾਰੇ ਕਉਨੁ ॥
Mū▫e ka▫o kaho māre ka▫un.
Tell me, who can kill someone who is already dead?
|
ਨਿਡਰੇ ਕਉ ਕੈਸਾ ਡਰੁ ਕਵਨੁ ॥
Nidre ka▫o kaisā dar kavan.
What does he fear? Who can frighten the fearless one?
|
ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਨੈ ਤੀਨੇ ਭਉਨ ॥੫॥
Sabaḏ pacẖẖānai ṯīne bẖa▫un. ||5||
He recognizes the Word of the Shabad, throughout the three worlds. ||5||
|
ਜਿਨਿ ਕਹਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਕਹਨੁ ਵਖਾਨਿਆ ॥
Jin kahi▫ā ṯin kahan vakẖāni▫ā.
One who speaks, merely describes speech.
|
ਜਿਨਿ ਬੂਝਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਪਛਾਨਿਆ ॥
Jin būjẖi▫ā ṯin sahj pacẖẖāni▫ā.
But one who understands, intuitively realizes.
|
ਦੇਖਿ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥੬॥
Ḏekẖ bīcẖār merā man māni▫ā. ||6||
Seeing and reflecting upon it, my mind surrenders. ||6||
|
ਕੀਰਤਿ ਸੂਰਤਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਇਕ ਨਾਈ ॥
Kīraṯ sūraṯ mukaṯ ik nā▫ī.
Praise, beauty and liberation are in the One Name.
|
ਤਹੀ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥
Ŧahī niranjan rahi▫ā samā▫ī.
In it, the Immaculate Lord is permeating and pervading.
|
ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਬਿਆਪਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਨਿਜ ਠਾਈ ॥੭॥
Nij gẖar bi▫āp rahi▫ā nij ṯẖā▫ī. ||7||
He dwells in the home of the self, and in His own sublime place. ||7||
|
ਉਸਤਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਕੇਤੇ ਮੁਨਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥
Usṯaṯ karahi keṯe mun parīṯ.
The many silent sages lovingly praise Him.
