ਚਾਰੇ ਅਗਨਿ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ਮਰੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਲੁ ਪਾਇ ॥
चारे अगनि निवारि मरु गुरमुखि हरि जलु पाइ ॥
Chaaré agan nivaar mar gurmukʰ har jal paa▫é.
By obtaining the water of God’s Name, through the Guru, quench the four fires (of cruelty, wordly-love, anger and greed) and remain dead in life.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕਮਲੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਭਰਿਆ ਅਘਾਇ ॥
अंतरि कमलु प्रगासिआ अमृतु भरिआ अघाइ ॥
Anṫar kamal pargaasi▫aa amriṫ bʰari▫aa agʰaa▫é.
Thus, the heart-lotus blossom be filled with Nectar and thou shalt be satiated.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਮੀਤੁ ਕਰਿ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਜਾਇ ॥੪॥੨੦॥
नानक सतगुरु मीतु करि सचु पावहि दरगह जाइ ॥४॥२०॥
Naanak saṫgur meeṫ kar sach paavahi ḋargėh jaa▫é. ||4||20||
Nanak make the True Guru thy friend, then going to His Court thou shalt obtain the True One.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਹੁ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਬੋਲਿ ॥
हरि हरि जपहु पिआरिआ गुरमति ले हरि बोलि ॥
Har har japahu pi▫aari▫aa gurmaṫ lé har bol.
Obtain Guru’s instruction, O my dear! repeat God’s Name and contemplate over Lord God.

ਮਨੁ ਸਚ ਕਸਵਟੀ ਲਾਈਐ ਤੁਲੀਐ ਪੂਰੈ ਤੋਲਿ ॥
मनु सच कसवटी लाईऐ तुलीऐ पूरै तोलि ॥
Man sach kasvatee laa▫ee▫æ ṫulee▫æ pooræ ṫol.
Apply the touch-stone of Truthfulness to thy soul, and see if it weighs its full weight.

ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਰਿਦ ਮਾਣਕ ਮੋਲਿ ਅਮੋਲਿ ॥੧॥
कीमति किनै न पाईऐ रिद माणक मोलि अमोलि ॥१॥
Keemaṫ kinæ na paa▫ee▫æ riḋ maaṇak mol amol. ||1||
No one has found its worth. Invaluable is the value of the soul emerald.

ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਹੀਰਾ ਗੁਰ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
भाई रे हरि हीरा गुर माहि ॥
Bʰaa▫ee ré har heeraa gur maahi.
O Brother! God, the jewel, resides in the Guru.

ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਲਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
सतसंगति सतगुरु पाईऐ अहिनिसि सबदि सलाहि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Saṫsangaṫ saṫgur paa▫ee▫æ ahinis sabaḋ salaahi. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
In the society of saints, the True Guru is obtained. Day and night praise God’s Name, (O; Man!). Pause.

ਸਚੁ ਵਖਰੁ ਧਨੁ ਰਾਸਿ ਲੈ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਗਾਸਿ ॥
सचु वखरु धनु रासि लै पाईऐ गुर परगासि ॥
Sach vakʰar ḋʰan raas læ paa▫ee▫æ gur pargaas.
By obtaining light from the Guru, acquire the true wealth and real merchandise.
|
ਜਿਉ ਅਗਨਿ ਮਰੈ ਜਲਿ ਪਾਇਐ ਤਿਉ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸਿ ॥
जिउ अगनि मरै जलि पाइऐ तिउ त्रिसना दासनि दासि ॥
Ji▫o agan maræ jal paa▫i▫æ ṫi▫o ṫarisnaa ḋaasan ḋaas.
As fire is extinguished by pouring water, similarly the desire becomes the slave of (is quenched by) God’s slaves.

ਜਮ ਜੰਦਾਰੁ ਨ ਲਗਈ ਇਉ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਤਰੈ ਤਰਾਸਿ ॥੨॥
जम जंदारु न लगई इउ भउजलु तरै तरासि ॥२॥
Jam janḋaar na lag▫ee i▫o bʰa▫ojal ṫaræ ṫaraas. ||2||
The courier of death shall touch thee not and like this thou shalt cross and causes others to cross the terrible life ocean.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕੂੜੁ ਨ ਭਾਵਈ ਸਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਚ ਭਾਇ ॥
गुरमुखि कूड़ु न भावई सचि रते सच भाइ ॥
Gurmukʰ kooṛ na bʰaav▫ee sach raṫé sach bʰaa▫é.
The Guru’s slaves like not untruth. With sincere love they are dyed in nothing but Truth.

ਸਾਕਤ ਸਚੁ ਨ ਭਾਵਈ ਕੂੜੈ ਕੂੜੀ ਪਾਂਇ ॥
साकत सचु न भावई कूड़ै कूड़ी पांइ ॥
Saakaṫ sach na bʰaav▫ee kooṛæ kooṛee paaⁿ▫é.
The mammon-worshiper likes not Truthfulness. False is the foundation of the false.
|
ਸਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਲਿਐ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੩॥
सचि रते गुरि मेलिऐ सचे सचि समाइ ॥३॥
Sach raṫé gur méli▫æ saché sach samaa▫é. ||3||
Being tainted with Truth, one meets the Guru, The true persons are absorbed in the True Lord.

ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਮਾਣਕੁ ਲਾਲੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਹੀਰੁ ॥
मन महि माणकु लालु नामु रतनु पदारथु हीरु ॥
Man mėh maaṇak laal naam raṫan paḋaaraṫʰ heer.
In the mind are emerald, rubies pearls, valuables and jewels of God’s Name.
|
ਸਚੁ ਵਖਰੁ ਧਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰੁ ॥
सचु वखरु धनु नामु है घटि घटि गहिर ग्मभीरु ॥
Sach vakʰar ḋʰan naam hæ gʰat gʰat gahir gambʰeer.
The True merchandise and wealth is the Name of the infinitely deep Lord, who permeates all the hearts.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਦਇਆ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਹੀਰੁ ॥੪॥੨੧॥
नानक गुरमुखि पाईऐ दइआ करे हरि हीरु ॥४॥२१॥
Naanak gurmukʰ paa▫ee▫æ ḋa▫i▫aa karé har heer. ||4||21||
Nanak were God, the Gem, to show favour, He is obtained through the Exalted Guru.

ਭਰਮੇ ਭਾਹਿ ਨ ਵਿਝਵੈ ਜੇ ਭਵੈ ਦਿਸੰਤਰ ਦੇਸੁ ॥
भरमे भाहि न विझवै जे भवै दिसंतर देसु ॥
Bʰarmé bʰaahi na vijʰvæ jé bʰavæ disanṫar ḋés.
The fire of doubt extinguishes not, even though man may wander in foreign lands and countries.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਵੇਸੁ ॥
अंतरि मैलु न उतरै ध्रिगु जीवणु ध्रिगु वेसु ॥
Anṫar mæl na uṫræ ḋʰarig jeevaṇ ḋʰarig vés.
Accursed is the life and doomed the religious garb of him, whose heart’s filth is not removed.

ਹੋਰੁ ਕਿਤੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ ॥੧॥
होरु कितै भगति न होवई बिनु सतिगुर के उपदेस ॥१॥
Hor kiṫæ bʰagaṫ na hova▫ee bin saṫgur ké upḋés. ||1||
Except through the True Guru’s instruction, there is no other way to perform Lord’s devotional service.
|
ਮਨ ਰੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਗਨਿ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ॥
मन रे गुरमुखि अगनि निवारि ॥
Man ré gurmukʰ agan nivaar.
O my soul! extinguish the fire through the Guru.
|
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਕਹਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਮਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
गुर का कहिआ मनि वसै हउमै त्रिसना मारि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Gur kaa kahi▫aa man vasæ ha▫umæ ṫarisnaa maar. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
Abide by Guru’s word within thy mind and still thy ego and desire. Pause.
|
ਮਨੁ ਮਾਣਕੁ ਨਿਰਮੋਲੁ ਹੈ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਇ ॥
मनु माणकु निरमोलु है राम नामि पति पाइ ॥
Man maaṇak nirmol hæ raam naam paṫ paa▫é.
The mind jewel is priceless, but it is through Lord’s Name that it attains honour.

ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
मिलि सतसंगति हरि पाईऐ गुरमुखि हरि लिव लाइ ॥
Mil saṫsangaṫ har paa▫ee▫æ gurmukʰ har liv laa▫é.
By Guru’s grace, embrace love for God and by associating with the true congregation, obtain the Lord.

ਆਪੁ ਗਇਆ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਲਲੈ ਸਲਲ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥
आपु गइआ सुखु पाइआ मिलि सललै सलल समाइ ॥२॥
Aap ga▫i▫aa sukʰ paa▫i▫aa mil sallæ salal samaa▫é. ||2||
By erasing self-conceit man attains peace and like water merging with water, blends (with the Lord).

ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਿਓ ਸੁ ਅਉਗੁਣਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
जिनि हरि हरि नामु न चेतिओ सु अउगुणि आवै जाइ ॥
Jin har har naam na chéṫi▫o so a▫oguṇ aavæ jaa▫é.
Those who have not contemplated over the Name of Lord God they are without merits and continue coming and going.

ਜਿਸੁ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੁ ਭਉਜਲਿ ਪਚੈ ਪਚਾਇ ॥
जिसु सतगुरु पुरखु न भेटिओ सु भउजलि पचै पचाइ ॥
Jis saṫgur purakʰ na bʰéti▫o so bʰa▫ojal pachæ pachaa▫é.
He who has not met the Divine True Guru bothers and suffers in the terrible life-ocean.

ਇਹੁ ਮਾਣਕੁ ਜੀਉ ਨਿਰਮੋਲੁ ਹੈ ਇਉ ਕਉਡੀ ਬਦਲੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥
इहु माणकु जीउ निरमोलु है इउ कउडी बदलै जाइ ॥३॥
Ih maaṇak jee▫o nirmol hæ i▫o ka▫udee baḋlæ jaa▫é. ||3||
This soul jewel is priceless, in this way it is being lost in exchange for a shell.

ਜਿੰਨਾ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਰਸਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਪੁਰਖ ਸੁਜਾਣ ॥
जिंना सतगुरु रसि मिलै से पूरे पुरख सुजाण ॥
Jinna saṫgur ras milæ sé pooré purakʰ sujaaṇ.
Whom the True Guru joyfully meets, they are the perfectly wise persons.
|
ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਲੰਘੀਐ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਤਿ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
गुर मिलि भउजलु लंघीऐ दरगह पति परवाणु ॥
Gur mil bʰa▫ojal langʰee▫æ ḋargėh paṫ parvaaṇ.
By meeting the Guru, the terrible world-ocean is crossed and man’s honour becomes acceptable in God’s Court.

ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲੇ ਧੁਨਿ ਉਪਜੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥੪॥੨੨॥
नानक ते मुख उजले धुनि उपजै सबदु नीसाणु ॥४॥२२॥
Naanak ṫé mukʰ ujlé ḋʰun upjæ sabaḋ neesaaṇ. ||4||22||
O Nanak! Bright are the faces of those within whose mind the music of Gurbani is apparently struck.

ਵਣਜੁ ਕਰਹੁ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਹੋ ਵਖਰੁ ਲੇਹੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥
वणजु करहु वणजारिहो वखरु लेहु समालि ॥
vaṇaj karahu vaṇjaariho vakʰar lého samaal.
O traders! strike the bargain, and take care of (the True) merchandise.
|
ਤੈਸੀ ਵਸਤੁ ਵਿਸਾਹੀਐ ਜੈਸੀ ਨਿਬਹੈ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
तैसी वसतु विसाहीऐ जैसी निबहै नालि ॥
Ṫæsee vasaṫ visaahee▫æ jæsee nibhæ naal.
Purchase such goods as may last with Thee.

ਅਗੈ ਸਾਹੁ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ਹੈ ਲੈਸੀ ਵਸਤੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੧॥
अगै साहु सुजाणु है लैसी वसतु समालि ॥१॥
Agæ saahu sujaaṇ hæ læsee vasaṫ samaal. ||1||
In the next world the wise Merchant will take and preserve the genuine article.
|
ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਰਾਮੁ ਕਹਹੁ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥
भाई रे रामु कहहु चितु लाइ ॥
Bʰaa▫ee ré raam kahhu chiṫ laa▫é.
O Brother! repeat God’s Name by fixing thy attention.

ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਵਖਰੁ ਲੈ ਚਲਹੁ ਸਹੁ ਦੇਖੈ ਪਤੀਆਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
हरि जसु वखरु लै चलहु सहु देखै पतीआइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Har jas vakʰar læ chalhu saho ḋékʰæ paṫee▫aa▫é. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
Take and depart with the merchandise of God’s praises. The Spouse shall view and be satisfied with it. Pause.3
