ਕਵਨ ਗੁਨੁ ਜੋ ਤੁਝੁ ਲੈ ਗਾਵਉ ॥
Kavan gun jo ṯujẖ lai gāva▫o.
What is that virtue, by which I may sing of You?

ਕਵਨ ਬੋਲ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਰੀਝਾਵਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Kavan bol pārbarahm rījẖāva▫o. ||1|| rahā▫o.
What is that speech, by which I may please the Supreme Lord God? ||1||Pause||
|
ਕਵਨ ਸੁ ਪੂਜਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਕਰਉ ॥
Kavan so pūjā ṯerī kara▫o.
What worship service shall I perform for You?
|
ਕਵਨ ਸੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਭਵਜਲ ਤਰਉ ॥੨॥
Kavan so biḏẖ jiṯ bẖavjal ṯara▫o. ||2||
How can I cross over the terrifying world-ocean? ||2||
|
ਕਵਨ ਤਪੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਤਪੀਆ ਹੋਇ ॥
Kavan ṯap jiṯ ṯapī▫ā ho▫e.
What is that penance, by which I may become a penitent?
|
ਕਵਨੁ ਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਲੁ ਖੋਇ ॥੩॥
Kavan so nām ha▫umai mal kẖo▫e. ||3||
What is that Name, by which the filth of egotism may be washed away? ||3||
|
ਗੁਣ ਪੂਜਾ ਗਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਗਲ ਘਾਲ ॥
Guṇ pūjā gi▫ān ḏẖi▫ān Nānak sagal gẖāl.
Virtue, worship, spiritual wisdom, meditation and all service, O Nanak,
|
ਜਿਸੁ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਦਇਆਲ ॥੪॥
Jis kar kirpā saṯgur milai ḏa▫i▫āl. ||4||
are obtained from the True Guru, when, in His Mercy and Kindness, He meets us. ||4||
|
ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਗੁਨੁ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
Ŧis hī gun ṯin hī parabẖ jāṯā.
They alone receive this merit, and they alone know God,
|
ਜਿਸ ਕੀ ਮਾਨਿ ਲੇਇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੩੬॥੧੦੫॥
Jis kī mān le▫e sukẖ▫ḏāṯa. ||1|| rahā▫o ḏūjā. ||36||105||
who are approved by the Giver of peace. ||1||Second. Pause||36||105||

Gauree, Fifth Mehl:

ਆਪਨ ਤਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਜਾ ਕੋ ਗਰਬਾ ॥
Āpan ṯan nahī jā ko garbā.
The body which you are so proud of, does not belong to you.
|
ਰਾਜ ਮਿਲਖ ਨਹੀ ਆਪਨ ਦਰਬਾ ॥੧॥
Rāj milakẖ nahī āpan ḏarbā. ||1||
Power, property and wealth are not yours. ||1||
|
ਆਪਨ ਨਹੀ ਕਾ ਕਉ ਲਪਟਾਇਓ ॥
Āpan nahī kā ka▫o laptā▫i▫o.
They are not yours, so why do you cling to them?
|
ਆਪਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਇਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Āpan nām saṯgur ṯe pā▫i▫o. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Only the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is yours; it is received from the True Guru. ||1||Pause||
|
ਸੁਤ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਆਪਨ ਨਹੀ ਭਾਈ ॥
Suṯ baniṯā āpan nahī bẖā▫ī.
Children, spouse and siblings are not yours.
|
ਇਸਟ ਮੀਤ ਆਪ ਬਾਪੁ ਨ ਮਾਈ ॥੨॥
Isat mīṯ āp bāp na mā▫ī. ||2||
Dear friends, mother and father are not yours. ||2||
|
ਸੁਇਨਾ ਰੂਪਾ ਫੁਨਿ ਨਹੀ ਦਾਮ ॥
Su▫inā rūpā fun nahī ḏām.
Gold, silver and money are not yours.
|
ਹੈਵਰ ਗੈਵਰ ਆਪਨ ਨਹੀ ਕਾਮ ॥੩॥
Haivar gaivar āpan nahī kām. ||3||
Fine horses and magnificent elephants are of no use to you. ||3||
|
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੋ ਗੁਰਿ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥
Kaho Nānak jo gur bakẖas milā▫i▫ā.
Says Nanak, those whom the Guru forgives, meet with the Lord.

ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੩੭॥੧੦੬॥
Ŧis kā sabẖ kicẖẖ jis kā har rā▫i▫ā. ||4||37||106||
Everything belongs to those who have the Lord as their King. ||4||37||106||

ਗਉੜੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
Ga▫oṛī mėhlā 5.
Gauree, Fifth Mehl:
|
ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਊਪਰਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਥੇ ॥
Gur ke cẖaraṇ ūpar mere māthe.
I place the Guru's Feet on my forehead,
|
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਦੁਖ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਗਲੇ ਲਾਥੇ ॥੧॥
Ŧā ṯe ḏukẖ mere sagle lāthe. ||1||
and all my pains are gone. ||1||
|
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕਉ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੀ ॥
Saṯgur apune ka▫o kurbānī.
I am a sacrifice to my True Guru.
|
ਆਤਮ ਚੀਨਿ ਪਰਮ ਰੰਗ ਮਾਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Āṯam cẖīn param rang mānī. ||1|| rahā▫o.
I have come to understand my soul, and I enjoy supreme bliss. ||1||Pause||
|
ਚਰਣ ਰੇਣੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਮੁਖਿ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
Cẖaraṇ reṇ gur kī mukẖ lāgī.
I have applied the dust of the Guru's Feet to my face,
|
ਅਹੰਬੁਧਿ ਤਿਨਿ ਸਗਲ ਤਿਆਗੀ ॥੨॥
Ahaʼn▫buḏẖ ṯin sagal ṯi▫āgī. ||2||
which has removed all my arrogant intellect. ||2||
|
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਲਗੋ ਮਨਿ ਮੀਠਾ ॥
Gur kā sabaḏ lago man mīṯẖā.
The Word of the Guru's Shabad has become sweet to my mind,
|
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਤਾ ਤੇ ਮੋਹਿ ਡੀਠਾ ॥੩॥
Pārbarahm ṯā ṯe mohi dīṯẖā. ||3||
and I behold the Supreme Lord God. ||3||
|
ਗੁਰੁ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥
Gur sukẖ▫ḏāṯa gur karṯār.
The Guru is the Giver of peace; the Guru is the Creator.
|
ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰੁ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥੪॥੩੮॥੧੦੭॥
Jī▫a parāṇ Nānak gur āḏẖār. ||4||38||107||
O Nanak, the Guru is the Support of the breath of life and the soul. ||4||38||107||

Gauree, Fifth Mehl:

ਰੇ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਤੂੰ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਆਹਿ ॥
Re man mere ṯūʼn ṯā ka▫o āhi.
O my mind, seek the One,
|
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਊਣਾ ਕਛਹੂ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
Jā kai ūṇā kacẖẖhū nāhi. ||1||
who lacks nothing. ||1||
|
ਹਰਿ ਸਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਕਰਿ ਮਨ ਮੀਤ ॥
Har sā parīṯam kar man mīṯ.
Make the Beloved Lord your friend.
|
ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰੁ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਸਦ ਚੀਤ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Parān aḏẖār rākẖo saḏ cẖīṯ. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Keep Him constantly in your mind; He is the Support of the breath of life. ||1||Pause||
|
ਰੇ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਤੂੰ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਸੇਵਿ ॥
Re man mere ṯūʼn ṯā ka▫o sev.
O my mind, serve Him;
|
ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਅਪਰੰਪਰ ਦੇਵ ॥੨॥
Āḏ purakẖ aprampar ḏev. ||2||
He is the Primal Being, the Infinite Divine Lord. ||2||
|
ਤਿਸੁ ਊਪਰਿ ਮਨ ਕਰਿ ਤੂੰ ਆਸਾ ॥
Ŧis ūpar man kar ṯūʼn āsā.
Place your hopes in the One
|
ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਭਰਵਾਸਾ ॥੩॥
Āḏ jugāḏ jā kā bẖarvāsā. ||3||
who is the Support of all beings, from the very beginning of time, and throughout the ages. ||3||
|
ਜਾ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
Jā kī parīṯ saḏā sukẖ ho▫e.
His Love brings eternal peace;
|
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਗਾਵੈ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਸੋਇ ॥੪॥੩੯॥੧੦੮॥
Nānak gāvai gur mil so▫e. ||4||39||108||
meeting the Guru, Nanak sings His Glorious Praises. ||4||39||108||

Ga▫oṛī mėhlā 5.
Gauree, Fifth Mehl:
|
ਮੀਤੁ ਕਰੈ ਸੋਈ ਹਮ ਮਾਨਾ ॥
Mīṯ karai so▫ī ham mānā.
Whatever my Friend does, I accept.
|
ਮੀਤ ਕੇ ਕਰਤਬ ਕੁਸਲ ਸਮਾਨਾ ॥੧॥
Mīṯ ke karṯab kusal samānā. ||1||
My Friend's actions are pleasing to me. ||1||
|
ਏਕਾ ਟੇਕ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਚੀਤ ॥
Ėkā tek merai man cẖīṯ.
Within my conscious mind, the One Lord is my only Support.
|
ਜਿਸੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਣਾ ਸੁ ਹਮਰਾ ਮੀਤ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Jis kicẖẖ karṇā so hamrā mīṯ. ||1|| rahā▫o.
One who does this is my Friend. ||1||Pause||
|
ਮੀਤੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹਾ ॥
Mīṯ hamārā veparvāhā.
My Friend is Carefree.
|
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਮੋਹਿ ਅਸਨਾਹਾ ॥੨॥
Gur kirpā ṯe mohi asnāhā. ||2||
By Guru's Grace, I give my love to Him. ||2||
|
ਮੀਤੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥
Mīṯ hamārā anṯarjāmī.
My Friend is the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts.
|
ਸਮਰਥ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥੩॥
Samrath purakẖ pārbarahm su▫āmī. ||3||
He is the All-powerful Being, the Supreme Lord and Master. ||3||
|
ਹਮ ਦਾਸੇ ਤੁਮ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਮੇਰੇ ॥
Ham ḏāse ṯum ṯẖākur mere.
I am Your servant; You are my Lord and Master.
