ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਜਾਣੈ ਇਹੁ ਤਨੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
Parāṇī jāṇai ih ṯan merā.
The mortal claims this body as his own.
|
ਬਹੁਰਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਉਆਹੂ ਲਪਟੇਰਾ ॥
Bahur bahur u▫āhū lapterā.
Again and again, he clings to it.
|
ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕਲਤ੍ਰ ਗਿਰਸਤ ਕਾ ਫਾਸਾ ॥
Puṯar kalṯar girsaṯ kā fāsā.
He is entangled with his children, his wife and household affairs.
|
ਹੋਨੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਰਾਮ ਕੇ ਦਾਸਾ ॥੧॥
Hon na pā▫ī▫ai rām ke ḏāsā. ||1||
He cannot be the slave of the Lord. ||1||
|
ਕਵਨ ਸੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਰਾਮ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥
Kavan so biḏẖ jiṯ rām guṇ gā▫e.
What is that way, by which the Lord's Praises might be sung?
|
ਕਵਨ ਸੁ ਮਤਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਤਰੈ ਇਹ ਮਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Kavan so maṯ jiṯ ṯarai ih mā▫e. ||1|| rahā▫o.
What is that intellect, by which this person might swim across, O mother? ||1||Pause||
|
ਜੋ ਭਲਾਈ ਸੋ ਬੁਰਾ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
Jo bẖalā▫ī so burā jānai.
That which is for his own good, he thinks is evil.
|
ਸਾਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਸੋ ਬਿਖੈ ਸਮਾਨੈ ॥
Sācẖ kahai so bikẖai samānai.
If someone tells him the truth, he looks upon that as poison.
|
ਜਾਣੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਜੀਤ ਅਰੁ ਹਾਰ ॥
Jāṇai nāhī jīṯ ar hār.
He cannot tell victory from defeat.
|
ਇਹੁ ਵਲੇਵਾ ਸਾਕਤ ਸੰਸਾਰ ॥੨॥
Ih valevā sākaṯ sansār. ||2||
This is the way of life in the world of the faithless cynic. ||2||
|
ਜੋ ਹਲਾਹਲ ਸੋ ਪੀਵੈ ਬਉਰਾ ॥
Jo halāhal so pīvai ba▫urā.
The demented fool drinks in the deadly poison,
|
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਾਨੈ ਕਰਿ ਕਉਰਾ ॥
Amriṯ nām jānai kar ka▫urā.
while he believes the Ambrosial Naam to be bitter.
|
ਸਾਧਸੰਗ ਕੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਨੇਰਿ ॥
Sāḏẖsang kai nāhī ner.
He does not even approach the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy;
|
ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਭ੍ਰਮਤਾ ਫੇਰਿ ॥੩॥
Lakẖ cẖa▫orāsīh bẖarmaṯā fer. ||3||
he wanders lost through 8.4 million incarnations. ||3||
|
ਏਕੈ ਜਾਲਿ ਫਹਾਏ ਪੰਖੀ ॥
Ėkai jāl fahā▫e pankẖī.
The birds are caught in the net of Maya;
|
ਰਸਿ ਰਸਿ ਭੋਗ ਕਰਹਿ ਬਹੁ ਰੰਗੀ ॥
Ras ras bẖog karahi baho rangī.
immersed in the pleasures of love, they frolic in so many ways.
|
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਭਏ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ॥
Kaho Nānak jis bẖa▫e kirpāl.
Says Nanak, unto whom the Lord has shown His Mercy,
|
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਕਾਟੇ ਜਾਲ ॥੪॥੧੩॥੮੨॥
Gur pūrai ṯā ke kāte jāl. ||4||13||82||
the Perfect Guru has cut away the noose of those. ||4||13||82||

ਗਉੜੀ ਗੁਆਰੇਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
Ga▫oṛī gu▫ārerī mėhlā 5.
Gauree Gwaarayree, Fifth Mehl:

ਤਉ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
Ŧa▫o kirpā ṯe mārag pā▫ī▫ai.
By Your Grace, we find the Way.
|
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥
Parabẖ kirpā ṯe nām ḏẖi▫ā▫ī▫ai.
By God's Grace, we meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
|
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਛੁਟੈ ॥
Parabẖ kirpā ṯe banḏẖan cẖẖutai.
By God's Grace, we are released from our bondage.
|
ਤਉ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਤੁਟੈ ॥੧॥
Ŧa▫o kirpā ṯe ha▫umai ṯutai. ||1||
By Your Grace, egotism is eradicated. ||1||
|
ਤੁਮ ਲਾਵਹੁ ਤਉ ਲਾਗਹ ਸੇਵ ॥
Ŧum lāvhu ṯa▫o lāgah sev.
As You assign me, so I take to Your service.
|
ਹਮ ਤੇ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਦੇਵ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Ham ṯe kacẖẖū na hovai ḏev. ||1|| rahā▫o.
By myself, I cannot do anything at all, O Divine Lord. ||1||Pause||
|
ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਗਾਵਾ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
Ŧuḏẖ bẖāvai ṯā gāvā baṇī.
If it pleases You, then I sing the Word of Your Bani.
|
ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਸਚੁ ਵਖਾਣੀ ॥
Ŧuḏẖ bẖāvai ṯā sacẖ vakẖāṇī.
If it pleases You, then I speak the Truth.
|
ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਇਆ ॥
Ŧuḏẖ bẖāvai ṯā saṯgur ma▫i▫ā.
If it pleases You, then the True Guru showers His Mercy upon me.
|
ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਦਇਆ ॥੨॥
Sarab sukẖā parabẖ ṯerī ḏa▫i▫ā. ||2||
All peace comes by Your Kindness, God. ||2||
|
ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਕਰਮਾ ॥
Jo ṯuḏẖ bẖāvai so nirmal karmā.
Whatever pleases You is a pure action of karma.
|
ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਸਚੁ ਧਰਮਾ ॥
Jo ṯuḏẖ bẖāvai so sacẖ ḏẖarmā.
Whatever pleases You is the true faith of Dharma.
|
ਸਰਬ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਗੁਣ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਪਾਸਿ ॥
Sarab niḏẖān guṇ ṯum hī pās.
The treasure of all excellence is with You.
|
ਤੂੰ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸੇਵਕ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥੩॥
Ŧūʼn sāhib sevak arḏās. ||3||
Your servant prays to You, O Lord and Master. ||3||
|
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਇ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ॥
Man ṯan nirmal ho▫e har rang.
The mind and body become immaculate through the Lord's Love.
|
ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖਾ ਪਾਵਉ ਸਤਸੰਗਿ ॥
Sarab sukẖā pāva▫o saṯsang.
All peace is found in the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation.
|
ਨਾਮਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਰਹੈ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ॥
Nām ṯerai rahai man rāṯā.
My mind remains attuned to Your Name;
|
ਇਹੁ ਕਲਿਆਣੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਤਾ ॥੪॥੧੪॥੮੩॥
Ih kali▫āṇ Nānak kar jāṯā. ||4||14||83||
Nanak affirms this as his greatest pleasure. ||4||14||83||

ਗਉੜੀ ਗੁਆਰੇਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
Ga▫oṛī gu▫ārerī mėhlā 5.
Gauree Gwaarayree, Fifth Mehl:

ਆਨ ਰਸਾ ਜੇਤੇ ਤੈ ਚਾਖੇ ॥
Ān rasā jeṯe ṯai cẖākẖe.
You may taste the other flavors,
|
ਨਿਮਖ ਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਲਾਥੇ ॥
Nimakẖ na ṯarisnā ṯerī lāthe.
but your thirst shall not depart, even for an instant.
|
ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਕਾ ਤੂੰ ਚਾਖਹਿ ਸਾਦੁ ॥
Har ras kā ṯūʼn cẖākẖahi sāḏ.
But when you taste the sweet flavor the Lord's sublime essence -
|
ਚਾਖਤ ਹੋਇ ਰਹਹਿ ਬਿਸਮਾਦੁ ॥੧॥
Cẖākẖaṯ ho▫e rahėh bismāḏ. ||1||
upon tasting it, you shall be wonder-struck and amazed. ||1||
|
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਰਸਨਾ ਪੀਉ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥
Amriṯ rasnā pī▫o pi▫ārī.
O dear beloved tongue, drink in the Ambrosial Nectar.
|
ਇਹ ਰਸ ਰਾਤੀ ਹੋਇ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Ih ras rāṯī ho▫e ṯaripṯārī. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Imbued with this sublime essence, you shall be satisfied. ||1||Pause||
|
ਹੇ ਜਿਹਵੇ ਤੂੰ ਰਾਮ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ॥
He jihve ṯūʼn rām guṇ gā▫o.
O tongue, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
|
ਨਿਮਖ ਨਿਮਖ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਉ ॥
Nimakẖ nimakẖ har har har ḏẖi▫ā▫o.
Each and every moment, meditate on the Lord, Har, Har, Har.
|
ਆਨ ਨ ਸੁਨੀਐ ਕਤਹੂੰ ਜਾਈਐ ॥
Ān na sunī▫ai kaṯahūʼn jā▫ī▫ai.
Do not listen to any other, and do not go anywhere else.
|
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੨॥
Sāḏẖsangaṯ vadbẖāgī pā▫ī▫ai. ||2||
By great good fortune, you shall find the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||2||
|
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਜਿਹਵੇ ਆਰਾਧਿ ॥
Āṯẖ pahar jihve ārāḏẖ.
O tongue, dwell upon God, twenty-four hours a day,
|
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਆਗਾਧਿ ॥
Pārbarahm ṯẖākur āgāḏẖ.
the Unfathomable, Supreme Lord and Master.
|
ਈਹਾ ਊਹਾ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਹੇਲੀ ॥
Īhā ūhā saḏā suhelī.
Here and hereafter, you shall be happy forever.
|
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਤ ਰਸਨ ਅਮੋਲੀ ॥੩॥
Har guṇ gāvaṯ rasan amolī. ||3||
Chanting the Glorious Praises of the Lord, O tongue, you shall become priceless. ||3||
|
ਬਨਸਪਤਿ ਮਉਲੀ ਫਲ ਫੁਲ ਪੇਡੇ ॥
Banaspaṯ ma▫ulī fal ful pede.
All the vegetation will blossom forth for you, flowering in fruition;
|
ਇਹ ਰਸ ਰਾਤੀ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਛੋਡੇ ॥
Ih ras rāṯī bahur na cẖẖode.
imbued with this sublime essence, you shall never leave it again.
|
ਆਨ ਨ ਰਸ ਕਸ ਲਵੈ ਨ ਲਾਈ ॥
Ān na ras kas lavai na lā▫ī.
No other sweet and tasty flavors can compare to it.
|
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਭਏ ਹੈ ਸਹਾਈ ॥੪॥੧੫॥੮੪॥
Kaho Nānak gur bẖa▫e hai sahā▫ī. ||4||15||84||
Says Nanak, the Guru has become my Support. ||4||15||84||
