ਏਕਸੁ ਚਰਣੀ ਜੇ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਹਿ ਲਬਿ ਲੋਭਿ ਕੀ ਧਾਵਸਿਤਾ ॥੩॥
Ėkas cẖarṇī je cẖiṯ lāvėh lab lobẖ kī ḏẖāvsiṯā. ||3||
If you focus your consciousness on the Feet of the One Lord, what reason would you have to chase after greed? ||3||

ਜਪਸਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਰਚਸਿ ਮਨਾ ॥
Japas niranjan racẖas manā.
Meditate on the Immaculate Lord, and saturate your mind with Him.

ਕਾਹੇ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਜੋਗੀ ਕਪਟੁ ਘਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Kāhe bolėh jogī kapat gẖanā. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Why, O Yogi, do you make so many false and deceptive claims? ||1||Pause||
|
ਕਾਇਆ ਕਮਲੀ ਹੰਸੁ ਇਆਣਾ ਮੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਰਤ ਬਿਹਾਣੀਤਾ ॥
Kā▫i▫ā kamlī hans i▫āṇā merī merī karaṯ bihāṇīṯā.
The body is wild, and the mind is foolish. Practicing egotism, selfishness and conceit, your life is passing away.

ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਨਾਗੀ ਦਾਝੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਾਛੈ ਪਛੁਤਾਣੀਤਾ ॥੪॥੩॥੧੫॥
Paraṇvaṯ Nānak nāgī ḏājẖai fir pācẖẖai pacẖẖuṯāṇīṯā. ||4||3||15||
Prays Nanak, when the naked body is cremated, then you will come to regret and repent. ||4||3||15||

ਅਉਖਧ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਮੂਲੁ ਮਨ ਏਕੈ ਜੇ ਕਰਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੁ ਚਿਤੁ ਕੀਜੈ ਰੇ ॥
A▫ukẖaḏẖ manṯar mūl man ekai je kar ḏariṛ cẖiṯ kījai re.
O mind, there is only the One medicine, mantra and healing herb - center your consciousness firmly on the One Lord.

ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਪਾਪ ਕਰਮ ਕੇ ਕਾਟਨਹਾਰਾ ਲੀਜੈ ਰੇ ॥੧॥
Janam janam ke pāp karam ke kataṇhārā lījai re. ||1||
Take to the Lord, the Destroyer of the sins and karma of past incarnations. ||1||
|
ਮਨ ਏਕੋ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ॥
Man eko sāhib bẖā▫ī re.
The One Lord and Master is pleasing to my mind.

ਤੇਰੇ ਤੀਨਿ ਗੁਣਾ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ਸਮਾਵਹਿ ਅਲਖੁ ਨ ਲਖਣਾ ਜਾਈ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Ŧere ṯīn guṇā sansār samāvėh alakẖ na lakẖ▫ṇā jā▫ī re. ||1|| rahā▫o.
In Your three qualities, the world is engrossed; the Unknowable cannot be known. ||1||Pause||

ਸਕਰ ਖੰਡੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਤਨਿ ਮੀਠੀ ਹਮ ਤਉ ਪੰਡ ਉਚਾਈ ਰੇ ॥
Sakar kẖand mā▫i▫ā ṯan mīṯẖī ham ṯa▫o pand ucẖā▫ī re.
Maya is so sweet to the body, like sugar or molasses. We all carry loads of it.

ਰਾਤਿ ਅਨੇਰੀ ਸੂਝਸਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਲਜੁ ਟੂਕਸਿ ਮੂਸਾ ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ॥੨॥
Rāṯ anerī sūjẖas nāhī laj tūkas mūsā bẖā▫ī re. ||2||
In the dark of the night, nothing can be seen. The mouse of death is gnawing away at the rope of life, O Siblings of Destiny! ||2||

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਤੇਤਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਾਈ ਰੇ ॥
Manmukẖ karahi ṯeṯā ḏukẖ lāgai gurmukẖ milai vadā▫ī re.
As the self-willed manmukhs act, they suffer in pain. The Gurmukh obtains honor and greatness.

ਜੋ ਤਿਨਿ ਕੀਆ ਸੋਈ ਹੋਆ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਨ ਮੇਟਿਆ ਜਾਈ ਰੇ ॥੩॥
Jo ṯin kī▫ā so▫ī ho▫ā kiraṯ na meti▫ā jā▫ī re. ||3||
Whatever He does, that alone happens; past actions cannot be erased. ||3||
|
ਸੁਭਰ ਭਰੇ ਨ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਊਣੇ ਜੋ ਰਾਤੇ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਈ ਰੇ ॥
Subẖar bẖare na hovėh ūṇe jo rāṯe rang lā▫ī re.
Those who are imbued with, and committed to the Lord's Love, are filled to overflowing; they never lack anything.

ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਪੰਕ ਹੋਵੈ ਜੇ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਉ ਮੂੜਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਪਾਈ ਰੇ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੬॥
Ŧin kī pank hovai je Nānak ṯa▫o mūṛā kicẖẖ pā▫ī re. ||4||4||16||
If Nanak could be the dust of their feet, then he, the ignorant one, might also obtain some. ||4||4||16||

ਕਤ ਕੀ ਮਾਈ ਬਾਪੁ ਕਤ ਕੇਰਾ ਕਿਦੂ ਥਾਵਹੁ ਹਮ ਆਏ ॥
Kaṯ kī mā▫ī bāp kaṯ kerā kiḏū thāvhu ham ā▫e.
Who is our mother, and who is our father? Where did we come from?

ਅਗਨਿ ਬਿੰਬ ਜਲ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਨਿਪਜੇ ਕਾਹੇ ਕੰਮਿ ਉਪਾਏ ॥੧॥
Agan bimb jal bẖīṯar nipje kāhe kamm upā▫e. ||1||
We are formed from the fire of the womb within, and the bubble of water of the sperm. For what purpose are we created? ||1||
|
ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਿਬਾ ਕਉਣੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਗੁਣ ਤੇਰੇ ॥
Mere sāhibā ka▫uṇ jāṇai guṇ ṯere.
O my Master, who can know Your Glorious Virtues?

ਕਹੇ ਨ ਜਾਨੀ ਅਉਗਣ ਮੇਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Kahe na jānī a▫ugaṇ mere. ||1|| rahā▫o.
My own demerits cannot be counted. ||1||Pause||

ਕੇਤੇ ਰੁਖ ਬਿਰਖ ਹਮ ਚੀਨੇ ਕੇਤੇ ਪਸੂ ਉਪਾਏ ॥
Keṯe rukẖ birakẖ ham cẖīne keṯe pasū upā▫e.
I took the form of so many plants and trees, and so many animals.

ਕੇਤੇ ਨਾਗ ਕੁਲੀ ਮਹਿ ਆਏ ਕੇਤੇ ਪੰਖ ਉਡਾਏ ॥੨॥
Keṯe nāg kulī mėh ā▫e keṯe pankẖ udā▫e. ||2||
Many times I entered the families of snakes and flying birds. ||2||
|
ਹਟ ਪਟਣ ਬਿਜ ਮੰਦਰ ਭੰਨੈ ਕਰਿ ਚੋਰੀ ਘਰਿ ਆਵੈ ॥
Hat pataṇ bij manḏar bẖannai kar cẖorī gẖar āvai.
I broke into the shops of the city and well-guarded palaces; stealing from them, I come home again.

ਅਗਹੁ ਦੇਖੈ ਪਿਛਹੁ ਦੇਖੈ ਤੁਝ ਤੇ ਕਹਾ ਛਪਾਵੈ ॥੩॥
Agahu ḏekẖai picẖẖahu ḏekẖai ṯujẖ ṯe kahā cẖẖapāvai. ||3||
I looked in front of me, and I looked behind me, but where could I hide from You? ||3||
|
ਤਟ ਤੀਰਥ ਹਮ ਨਵ ਖੰਡ ਦੇਖੇ ਹਟ ਪਟਣ ਬਾਜਾਰਾ ॥
Ŧat ṯirath ham nav kẖand ḏekẖe hat pataṇ bājārā.
I saw the banks of sacred rivers, the nine continents, the shops and bazaars of the cities.

ਲੈ ਕੈ ਤਕੜੀ ਤੋਲਣਿ ਲਾਗਾ ਘਟ ਹੀ ਮਹਿ ਵਣਜਾਰਾ ॥੪॥
Lai kai ṯakṛī ṯolaṇ lāgā gẖat hī mėh vaṇjārā. ||4||
Taking the scale, the merchant begins to weigh his actions within his own heart. ||4||
|
ਜੇਤਾ ਸਮੁੰਦੁ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਨੀਰਿ ਭਰਿਆ ਤੇਤੇ ਅਉਗਣ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥
Jeṯā samunḏ sāgar nīr bẖari▫ā ṯeṯe a▫ugaṇ hamāre.
As the seas and the oceans are overflowing with water, so vast are my own sins.

ਦਇਆ ਕਰਹੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਮਿਹਰ ਉਪਾਵਹੁ ਡੁਬਦੇ ਪਥਰ ਤਾਰੇ ॥੫॥
Ḏa▫i▫ā karahu kicẖẖ mihar upāvhu dubḏe pathar ṯāre. ||5||
Please, shower me with Your Mercy, and take pity upon me. I am a sinking stone - please carry me across! ||5||
|
ਜੀਅੜਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਬਰਾਬਰਿ ਤਪੈ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਵਗੈ ਕਾਤੀ ॥
Jī▫aṛā agan barābar ṯapai bẖīṯar vagai kāṯī.
My soul is burning like fire, and the knife is cutting deep.

ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ॥੬॥੫॥੧੭॥
Paraṇvaṯ Nānak hukam pacẖẖāṇai sukẖ hovai ḏin rāṯī. ||6||5||17||
Prays Nanak, recognizing the Lord's Command, I am at peace, day and night. ||6||5||17||

ਗਉੜੀ ਬੈਰਾਗਣਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥
Ga▫oṛī bairāgaṇ mėhlā 1.
Gauree Bairaagan, First Mehl:

ਰੈਣਿ ਗਵਾਈ ਸੋਇ ਕੈ ਦਿਵਸੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਖਾਇ ॥
Raiṇ gavā▫ī so▫e kai ḏivas gavā▫i▫ā kẖā▫e.
The nights are wasted sleeping, and the days are wasted eating.

ਹੀਰੇ ਜੈਸਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਹੈ ਕਉਡੀ ਬਦਲੇ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
Hīre jaisā janam hai ka▫udī baḏle jā▫e. ||1||
Human life is such a precious jewel, but it is being lost in exchange for a mere shell. ||1||
|
ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਰਾਮ ਕਾ ॥
Nām na jāni▫ā rām kā.
You do not know the Name of the Lord.
|
ਮੂੜੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਾਛੈ ਪਛੁਤਾਹਿ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Mūṛe fir pācẖẖai pacẖẖuṯāhi re. ||1|| rahā▫o.
You fool - you shall regret and repent in the end! ||1||Pause||
|
ਅਨਤਾ ਧਨੁ ਧਰਣੀ ਧਰੇ ਅਨਤ ਨ ਚਾਹਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
Anṯā ḏẖan ḏẖarṇī ḏẖare anaṯ na cẖāhi▫ā jā▫e.
You bury your temporary wealth in the ground, but how can you love that which is temporary?
|
ਅਨਤ ਕਉ ਚਾਹਨ ਜੋ ਗਏ ਸੇ ਆਏ ਅਨਤ ਗਵਾਇ ॥੨॥
Anaṯ ka▫o cẖāhan jo ga▫e se ā▫e anaṯ gavā▫e. ||2||
Those who have departed, after craving for temporary wealth, have returned home without this temporary wealth. ||2||
|
ਆਪਣ ਲੀਆ ਜੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਭਾਗਠੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
Āpaṇ lī▫ā je milai ṯā sabẖ ko bẖāgaṯẖ ho▫e.
If people could gather it in by their own efforts, then everyone would be so lucky.
