ਦਯਿ ਵਿਗੋਏ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਵਿਗੁਤੇ ਫਿਟਾ ਵਤੈ ਗਲਾ ॥
Ḏa▫yi vigo▫e firėh viguṯe fitā vaṯai galā.
Ruined by God, they walk about disgraced and their entire multitude goes contaminated.

ਜੀਆ ਮਾਰਿ ਜੀਵਾਲੇ ਸੋਈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਰਖੈ ॥
Jī▫ā mār jīvāle so▫ī avar na ko▫ī rakẖai.
The beings that Lord alone kills and restores to life. None else can protect them.

ਦਾਨਹੁ ਤੈ ਇਸਨਾਨਹੁ ਵੰਜੇ ਭਸੁ ਪਈ ਸਿਰਿ ਖੁਥੈ ॥
Ḏānhu ṯai isnānhu vanje bẖas pa▫ī sir kẖuthai.
They go without giving alms and performing ablutions. The dust alights on their plucked heads.

ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਰਤਨ ਉਪੰਨੇ ਮੇਰੁ ਕੀਆ ਮਾਧਾਣੀ ॥
Pāṇī vicẖahu raṯan upanne mer kī▫ā māḏẖāṇī.
From within water came out the jewel, when the mountain of gold was made the churning staff.

ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਦੇਵੀ ਥਾਪੇ ਪੁਰਬੀ ਲਗੈ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
Aṯẖsaṯẖ ṯirath ḏevī thāpe purbī lagai baṇī.
The gods appointed the sixty-eight places of pilgrimage, where festivals are celebrated and hymns are recited.

ਨਾਇ ਨਿਵਾਜਾ ਨਾਤੈ ਪੂਜਾ ਨਾਵਨਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਜਾਣੀ ॥
Nā▫e nivājā nāṯai pūjā nāvan saḏā sujāṇī.
After ablution the Muslims say prayers after wash the Hindus perform worship and the wise ever bathe.

ਮੁਇਆ ਜੀਵਦਿਆ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਜਾਂ ਸਿਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਪਾਣੀ ॥
Mu▫i▫ā jīvḏi▫ā gaṯ hovai jāʼn sir pā▫ī▫ai pāṇī.
The dead and the living are purified when water is poured on their heads.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਿਰਖੁਥੇ ਸੈਤਾਨੀ ਏਨਾ ਗਲ ਨ ਭਾਣੀ ॥
Nānak sirkẖuṯe saiṯānī enā gal na bẖāṇī.
Nanak, the head-plucked are devils. This word of advice pleases them not.

ਵੁਠੈ ਹੋਇਐ ਹੋਇ ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਜੀਆ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥
vuṯẖai ho▫i▫ai ho▫e bilāval jī▫ā jugaṯ samāṇī.
When it rains, there is happiness. The key to the life of beings is contained in water.

ਵੁਠੈ ਅੰਨੁ ਕਮਾਦੁ ਕਪਾਹਾ ਸਭਸੈ ਪੜਦਾ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
vuṯẖai ann kamāḏ kapāhā sabẖsai paṛ▫ḏā hovai.
When it rains there is corn sugar cane and cotton which affords covering to all.
|
ਵੁਠੈ ਘਾਹੁ ਚਰਹਿ ਨਿਤਿ ਸੁਰਹੀ ਸਾ ਧਨ ਦਹੀ ਵਿਲੋਵੈ ॥
vuṯẖai gẖāhu cẖarėh niṯ surhī sā ḏẖan ḏahī vilovai.
When it rains the cows ever graze grass and the women churn the curd of their milk.

ਤਿਤੁ ਘਿਇ ਹੋਮ ਜਗ ਸਦ ਪੂਜਾ ਪਇਐ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਸੋਹੈ ॥
Ŧiṯ gẖi▫e hom jag saḏ pūjā pa▫i▫ai kāraj sohai.
By putting that clarified butter havan, sacred feasts and worships are ever performed and other ceremonies are adorned.

ਗੁਰੂ ਸਮੁੰਦੁ ਨਦੀ ਸਭਿ ਸਿਖੀ ਨਾਤੈ ਜਿਤੁ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
Gurū samunḏ naḏī sabẖ sikẖī nāṯai jiṯ vadi▫ā▫ī.
The Guru is the ocean and all his teachings are the river by bathing where-in greatness is obtained.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜੇ ਸਿਰਖੁਥੇ ਨਾਵਨਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਤਾ ਸਤ ਚਟੇ ਸਿਰਿ ਛਾਈ ॥੧॥
Nānak je sirkẖuṯe nāvan nāhī ṯā saṯ cẖate sir cẖẖā▫ī. ||1||
Nanak, if the plucked-heads bathe not, then seven handfuls of ashes be on their heads.

ਅਗੀ ਪਾਲਾ ਕਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੂਰਜ ਕੇਹੀ ਰਾਤਿ ॥
Agī pālā kė kare sūraj kehī rāṯ.
What can cold do to fire and how can night affect the sun?
|
ਚੰਦ ਅਨੇਰਾ ਕਿ ਕਰੇ ਪਉਣ ਪਾਣੀ ਕਿਆ ਜਾਤਿ ॥
Cẖanḏ anerā kė kare pa▫uṇ pāṇī ki▫ā jāṯ.
What effect can darkness have on the moon? What effect has caste on air and water?
|
ਧਰਤੀ ਚੀਜੀ ਕਿ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
Ḏẖarṯī cẖījī kė kare jis vicẖ sabẖ kicẖẖ ho▫e.
What should the earth do with chattels, where-in all the things are produced?
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਪਤਿ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਜਾ ਪਤਿ ਰਖੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੨॥
Nānak ṯā paṯ jāṇī▫ai jā paṯ rakẖai so▫e. ||2||
Nanak then alone the mortal is deemed honourable when that lord preserves his honour.

ਤੁਧੁ ਸਚੇ ਸੁਬਹਾਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਕਲਾਣਿਆ ॥
Ŧuḏẖ sacẖe sub▫hān saḏā kalāṇi▫ā.
Thine, O my wonderous True Lord! I have ever sung the praises.
|
ਤੂੰ ਸਚਾ ਦੀਬਾਣੁ ਹੋਰਿ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਿਆ ॥
Ŧūʼn sacẖā ḏībāṇ hor āvaṇ jāṇi▫ā.
Thou alone hast the eternal court. All others are subject to coming and going.
|
ਸਚੁ ਜਿ ਮੰਗਹਿ ਦਾਨੁ ਸਿ ਤੁਧੈ ਜੇਹਿਆ ॥
Sacẖ jė mangėh ḏān sė ṯuḏẖai jehi▫ā.
They, who ask for the gift of the True Name, are like Thee.
|
ਸਚੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਫੁਰਮਾਨੁ ਸਬਦੇ ਸੋਹਿਆ ॥
Sacẖ ṯerā furmān sabḏe sohi▫ā.
True is Thine command. With Thine Name the Man is bedecked.
|
ਮੰਨਿਐ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਤੁਧੈ ਤੇ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Mani▫ai gi▫ān ḏẖi▫ān ṯuḏẖai ṯe pā▫i▫ā.
Believing in Thee, O Lord! man receives from Thee Divine knowledge and Thy meditation.
|
ਕਰਮਿ ਪਵੈ ਨੀਸਾਨੁ ਨ ਚਲੈ ਚਲਾਇਆ ॥
Karam pavai nīsān na cẖalai cẖalā▫i▫ā.
By Thine grace, man obtains the mark of honour which cannot be effaced by effacing.

ਤੂੰ ਸਚਾ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ਨਿਤ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਚੜਹਿ ਸਵਾਇਆ ॥
Ŧūʼn sacẖā ḏāṯār niṯ ḏevėh cẖaṛėh savā▫i▫ā.
Thou the True Bestower ever givest. Thine gifts become more and more.
|
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮੰਗੈ ਦਾਨੁ ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਇਆ ॥੨੬॥
Nānak mangai ḏān jo ṯuḏẖ bẖā▫i▫ā. ||26||
Nanak asks for the gift which is pleasing unto Thee, O Lord!

|
ਦੀਖਿਆ ਆਖਿ ਬੁਝਾਇਆ ਸਿਫਤੀ ਸਚਿ ਸਮੇਉ ॥
Ḏīkẖi▫ā ākẖ bujẖā▫i▫ā sifṯī sacẖ same▫o.
They, whom the instruction (of Guru Nanak) has taught and put on the right path remain absorbed in the praises of the True Lord.

ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਕਿਆ ਉਪਦੇਸੀਐ ਜਿਨ ਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਉ ॥੧॥
Ŧin ka▫o ki▫ā upḏesī▫ai jin gur Nānak ḏe▫o. ||1||
What instruction can be imparted to them, who have God-incarnate Nanak as their Guru?

First Guru.
|
ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਸੋਈ ਬੂਝੈ ॥
Āp bujẖā▫e so▫ī būjẖai.
He, whom He Himself causes to understand understands Him.
|
ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਸੁਝਾਏ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੂਝੈ ॥
Jis āp sujẖā▫e ṯis sabẖ kicẖẖ sūjẖai.
Whom the Lord Himself gives knowledge, he comes to know every thing.
|
ਕਹਿ ਕਹਿ ਕਥਨਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਲੂਝੈ ॥
Kahi kahi kathnā mā▫i▫ā lūjẖai.
The preacher regularly preaches and sermons but longs for wealth.
|
ਹੁਕਮੀ ਸਗਲ ਕਰੇ ਆਕਾਰ ॥
Hukmī sagal kare ākār.
The Commander has created the entire creation.
|
ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਸਰਬ ਵੀਚਾਰ ॥
Āpe jāṇai sarab vīcẖār.
He Himself understands the mental out-look of all.
|
ਅਖਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਖਿਓ ਆਪਿ ॥
Akẖar Nānak akẖi▫o āp.
Nanak, the Lord Himself has uttered forth the Word.
|
ਲਹੈ ਭਰਾਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਦਾਤਿ ॥੨॥
Lahai bẖarāṯ hovai jis ḏāṯ. ||2||
Doubt departs from Him who receives the gift.

ਹਉ ਢਾਢੀ ਵੇਕਾਰੁ ਕਾਰੈ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
Ha▫o dẖādẖī vekār kārai lā▫i▫ā.
Me, the bard out of work, the Lord has applied to His service.
|
ਰਾਤਿ ਦਿਹੈ ਕੈ ਵਾਰ ਧੁਰਹੁ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਆ ॥
Rāṯ ḏihai kai vār ḏẖarahu furmā▫i▫ā.
In the very beginning He gave me the order to sing His praises night and day.
|
ਢਾਢੀ ਸਚੈ ਮਹਲਿ ਖਸਮਿ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ ॥
Dẖādẖī sacẖai mahal kẖasam bulā▫i▫ā.
The Master summoned the minstrel to His True Court.
|
ਸਚੀ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਪੜਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Sacẖī sifaṯ sālāh kapṛā pā▫i▫ā.
He clothed me with the robe of His true Honour and eulogy.
|
ਸਚਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਆਇਆ ॥
Sacẖā amriṯ nām bẖojan ā▫i▫ā.
Since then the True Name has become my ambrosial food.
|
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਖਾਧਾ ਰਜਿ ਤਿਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Gurmaṯī kẖāḏẖā raj ṯin sukẖ pā▫i▫ā.
They, who under the Guru's instruction, eat this food to their satisfaction, obtain peace.
|
ਢਾਢੀ ਕਰੇ ਪਸਾਉ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਜਾਇਆ ॥
Dẖādẖī kare pasā▫o sabaḏ vajā▫i▫ā.
By singing the Guru's hymns, I the minstrel spread the Lord's glory.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨੭॥ ਸੁਧੁ
Nānak sacẖ sālāhi pūrā pā▫i▫ā. ||27|| suḏẖu
Nanak, by praising the True Name I have obtained the perfect Lord.
|
