ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ਕਾਲੁ ਵਿਧਉਸਿਆ ॥
Sacẖā sabaḏ bīcẖār kāl viḏẖ▫usi▫ā.
By meditating on the True Name, the fear of death is annulled.

ਢਾਢੀ ਕਥੇ ਅਕਥੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਵਾਰਿਆ ॥
Dẖādẖī kathe akath sabaḏ savāri▫ā.
The eulogist utters the ineffable Lord, and is adorned with His Name.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਣ ਗਹਿ ਰਾਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਮਿਲੇ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ॥੨੩॥
Nānak guṇ gėh rās har jī▫o mile pi▫āri▫ā. ||23||
By holding fast the capital of virtue. Nanak has met the venerable Beloved Lord.

|
ਖਤਿਅਹੁ ਜੰਮੇ ਖਤੇ ਕਰਨਿ ਤ ਖਤਿਆ ਵਿਚਿ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
Kẖaṯi▫ahu jamme kẖaṯe karan ṯa kẖaṯi▫ā vicẖ pāhi.
Born from the sins and by committing sins man ever falls into sins.

ਧੋਤੇ ਮੂਲਿ ਨ ਉਤਰਹਿ ਜੇ ਸਉ ਧੋਵਣ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
Ḏẖoṯe mūl na uṯrėh je sa▫o ḏẖovaṇ pāhi.
By washing the sins are never removed, even though hundreds of washings be had.

ਨਾਨਕ ਬਖਸੇ ਬਖਸੀਅਹਿ ਨਾਹਿ ਤ ਪਾਹੀ ਪਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
Nānak bakẖse bakẖsī▫ahi nāhi ṯa pāhī pāhi. ||1||
Nanak, if the Master forgives the mortals are forgiven, otherwise they are shoe-beaten.

First Guru.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਬੋਲਣੁ ਝਖਣਾ ਦੁਖ ਛਡਿ ਮੰਗੀਅਹਿ ਸੁਖ ॥
Nānak bolaṇ jẖakẖ▫ṇā ḏukẖ cẖẖad mangī▫ah sukẖ.
Absurd is the request, O Nanak to ask for weal by abandoning woe.

ਸੁਖੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਦੁਇ ਦਰਿ ਕਪੜੇ ਪਹਿਰਹਿ ਜਾਇ ਮਨੁਖ ॥
Sukẖ ḏukẖ ḏu▫e ḏar kapṛe pahirahi jā▫e manukẖ.
Pleasure and pain are the two raiments given to the mortal from the Lord's Court to be worn.

ਜਿਥੈ ਬੋਲਣਿ ਹਾਰੀਐ ਤਿਥੈ ਚੰਗੀ ਚੁਪ ॥੨॥
Jithai bolaṇ hārī▫ai ṯithai cẖangī cẖup. ||2||
Where one is bond to lose by utterance, it is good to keep mum there.

|
ਚਾਰੇ ਕੁੰਡਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਅੰਦਰੁ ਭਾਲਿਆ ॥
Cẖāre kundā ḏekẖ anḏar bẖāli▫ā.
Looking around in four directions I searched my inner-self.
|
ਸਚੈ ਪੁਰਖਿ ਅਲਖਿ ਸਿਰਜਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿਆ ॥
Sacẖai purakẖ alakẖ siraj nihāli▫ā.
There I saw the invisible True Lord, the Creator.
|
ਉਝੜਿ ਭੁਲੇ ਰਾਹ ਗੁਰਿ ਵੇਖਾਲਿਆ ॥
Ujẖaṛ bẖule rāh gur vekẖāli▫ā.
I strayed in the wilderness. The Guru has shown me the way.
|
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਚੇ ਵਾਹੁ ਸਚੁ ਸਮਾਲਿਆ ॥
Saṯgur sacẖe vāhu sacẖ samāli▫ā.
Hail unto the True Sat Guru through whom I have remembered the True Lord.
|
ਪਾਇਆ ਰਤਨੁ ਘਰਾਹੁ ਦੀਵਾ ਬਾਲਿਆ ॥
Pā▫i▫ā raṯan gẖarāhu ḏīvā bāli▫ā.
The Guru has lighted the lamp and within my home I have found the emerald.

ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਲਾਹਿ ਸੁਖੀਏ ਸਚ ਵਾਲਿਆ ॥
Sacẖai sabaḏ salāhi sukẖī▫e sacẖ vāli▫ā.
The True Persons who praise the True Name remain in peace.

ਨਿਡਰਿਆ ਡਰੁ ਲਗਿ ਗਰਬਿ ਸਿ ਗਾਲਿਆ ॥
Nidri▫ā dar lag garab sė gāli▫ā.
Awe overtakes them who are without the Lord's fear. They are destroyed by self-conceit.

ਨਾਵਹੁ ਭੁਲਾ ਜਗੁ ਫਿਰੈ ਬੇਤਾਲਿਆ ॥੨੪॥
Nāvhu bẖulā jag firai beṯāli▫ā. ||24||
Having forgotten the Name the world is roaming about like a demon.

|
ਭੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਜੰਮੈ ਭੈ ਮਰੈ ਭੀ ਭਉ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
Bẖai vicẖ jammai bẖai marai bẖī bẖa▫o man mėh ho▫e.
In fear the man is born, in fear he dies and fear ever abides within his mind.

ਨਾਨਕ ਭੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਜੇ ਮਰੈ ਸਹਿਲਾ ਆਇਆ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥
Nānak bẖai vicẖ je marai sahilā ā▫i▫ā so▫e. ||1||
Nanak if man dies in the Lord's fear, fruitful becomes his advent.

Third Guru.
|
ਭੈ ਵਿਣੁ ਜੀਵੈ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਖੁਸੀਆ ਖੁਸੀ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
Bẖai viṇ jīvai bahuṯ bahuṯ kẖusī▫ā kẖusī kamā▫e.
Without God's fear the mortal lives very long and enjoys pleasure of pleasures.

ਨਾਨਕ ਭੈ ਵਿਣੁ ਜੇ ਮਰੈ ਮੁਹਿ ਕਾਲੈ ਉਠਿ ਜਾਇ ॥੨॥
Nānak bẖai viṇ je marai muhi kālai uṯẖ jā▫e. ||2||
Nanak, if he dies without God's fear he will get up and depart with the blackened face.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਹੋਇ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਤ ਸਰਧਾ ਪੂਰੀਐ ॥
Saṯgur ho▫e ḏa▫i▫āl ṯa sarḏẖā pūrī▫ai.
When the True Guru becomes merciful, desire is fulfilled then.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਹੋਇ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਨ ਕਬਹੂੰ ਝੂਰੀਐ ॥
Saṯgur ho▫e ḏa▫i▫āl na kabahūʼn jẖūrī▫ai.
When the True Guru becomes merciful, man grieves not ever.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਹੋਇ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਤਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੀਐ ॥
Saṯgur ho▫e ḏa▫i▫āl ṯā ḏukẖ na jāṇī▫ai.
When the True Guru becomes merciful, man knows no pain then.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਹੋਇ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਾਣੀਐ ॥
Saṯgur ho▫e ḏa▫i▫āl ṯā har rang māṇī▫ai.
When the True Guru becomes merciful then man enjoys God's love.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਹੋਇ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਤਾ ਜਮ ਕਾ ਡਰੁ ਕੇਹਾ ॥
Saṯgur ho▫e ḏa▫i▫āl ṯā jam kā dar kehā.
When the True Guru becomes merciful, then what fear has man of death?

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਹੋਇ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਤਾ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਦੇਹਾ ॥
Saṯgur ho▫e ḏa▫i▫āl ṯā saḏ hī sukẖ ḏehā.
When the True Guru becomes merciful then the body is ever in peace.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਹੋਇ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਤਾ ਨਵ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
Saṯgur ho▫e ḏa▫i▫āl ṯā nav niḏẖ pā▫ī▫ai.
When the True Guru becomes merciful then the nine treasures are obtained.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਹੋਇ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਤ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਈਐ ॥੨੫॥
Saṯgur ho▫e ḏa▫i▫āl ṯa sacẖ samā▫ī▫ai. ||25||
When the True Guru becomes merciful then is the man absorbed in the True Lord.

Slok First Guru.
|
ਸਿਰੁ ਖੋਹਾਇ ਪੀਅਹਿ ਮਲਵਾਣੀ ਜੂਠਾ ਮੰਗਿ ਮੰਗਿ ਖਾਹੀ ॥
Sir kẖohā▫e pī▫ah malvāṇī jūṯẖā mang mang kẖāhī.
They have their heads plucked, drink dirty water and repeatedly beg and eat other's leavings.
|
ਫੋਲਿ ਫਦੀਹਤਿ ਮੁਹਿ ਲੈਨਿ ਭੜਾਸਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੇਖਿ ਸਗਾਹੀ ॥
Fol faḏīhaṯ muhi lain bẖaṛāsā pāṇī ḏekẖ sagāhī.
They spread out ordure with their mouths suck its ordure and dread to look at water.
|
ਭੇਡਾ ਵਾਗੀ ਸਿਰੁ ਖੋਹਾਇਨਿ ਭਰੀਅਨਿ ਹਥ ਸੁਆਹੀ ॥
Bẖedā vāgī sir kẖohā▫in bẖarī▫an hath su▫āhī.
With hands smeared with ashes, they have their heads plucked like sheep.

ਮਾਊ ਪੀਊ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਗਵਾਇਨਿ ਟਬਰ ਰੋਵਨਿ ਧਾਹੀ ॥
Mā▫ū pī▫ū kiraṯ gavā▫in tabar rovan ḏẖāhī.
The daily routine of their mothers and fathers they give up and their kith and kin bewail loudly.

ਓਨਾ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਨ ਪਤਲਿ ਕਿਰਿਆ ਨ ਦੀਵਾ ਮੁਏ ਕਿਥਾਊ ਪਾਹੀ ॥
Onā pind na paṯal kiri▫ā na ḏīvā mu▫e kithā▫ū pāhī.
For them none gives barley rolls and food on leaves nor performs last rites nor lights earthen lamp. After death where shall thy be cast?

ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਦੇਨਿ ਨ ਢੋਈ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਣ ਅੰਨੁ ਨ ਖਾਹੀ ॥
Aṯẖsaṯẖ ṯirath ḏen na dẖo▫ī barahmaṇ ann na kẖāhī.
The sixty-eight places of pilgrimage grant them no refuge, and Pandits eat not their food.
|
ਸਦਾ ਕੁਚੀਲ ਰਹਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਮਥੈ ਟਿਕੇ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
Saḏā kucẖīl rahėh ḏin rāṯī mathai tike nāhī.
They ever remain filthy day and night and bear not sacrificial marks on their brow.

ਝੁੰਡੀ ਪਾਇ ਬਹਨਿ ਨਿਤਿ ਮਰਣੈ ਦੜਿ ਦੀਬਾਣਿ ਨ ਜਾਹੀ ॥
Jẖundī pā▫e bahan niṯ marṇai ḏaṛ ḏībāṇ na jāhī.
They ever sit in groups as if in mourning and go not into the True Court.
|
ਲਕੀ ਕਾਸੇ ਹਥੀ ਫੁੰਮਣ ਅਗੋ ਪਿਛੀ ਜਾਹੀ ॥
Lakī kāse hathī fummaṇ ago picẖẖī jāhī.
With begging bowls slung round their loins and a clew in their hands they walk in single file.

ਨਾ ਓਇ ਜੋਗੀ ਨਾ ਓਇ ਜੰਗਮ ਨਾ ਓਇ ਕਾਜੀ ਮੁੰਲਾ ॥
Nā o▫e jogī nā o▫e jangam nā o▫e kājī muʼnlā.
They are neither disciples of Gorakh nor adorers of Shiva nor Muslim judges and Muslim preachers.
