ਪਰਬਤੁ ਸੁਇਨਾ ਰੁਪਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਹੀਰੇ ਲਾਲ ਜੜਾਉ
परबतु सुइना रुपा होवै हीरे लाल जड़ाउ ॥
Parbaṯ su▫inā rupā hovai hīre lāl jaṛā▫o.
if the mountains became gold and silver, studded with gems and jewels -

ਭੀ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਸਾਲਾਹਣਾ ਆਖਣ ਲਹੈ ਚਾਉ ॥੧॥
भी तूंहै सालाहणा आखण लहै न चाउ ॥१॥
Bẖī ṯūʼnhai salāhṇā ākẖaṇ lahai na cẖā▫o. ||1||
even then, I would worship and adore You, and my longing to chant Your Praises would not decrease. ||1||

Mėhlā 1.
First Mehl:

ਭਾਰ ਅਠਾਰਹ ਮੇਵਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਗਰੁੜਾ ਹੋਇ ਸੁਆਉ
भार अठारह मेवा होवै गरुड़ा होइ सुआउ ॥
Bẖār aṯẖārah mevā hovai garuṛā ho▫e su▫ā▫o.
If all the eighteen loads of vegetation became fruits and the growing grass became sweet rice;

ਚੰਦੁ ਸੂਰਜੁ ਦੁਇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਰਖੀਅਹਿ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਥਾਉ
चंदु सूरजु दुइ फिरदे रखीअहि निहचलु होवै थाउ ॥
Cẖanḏ sūraj ḏu▫e firḏe rakẖī▫ahi nihcẖal hovai thā▫o.
if I were able to stop the sun and the moon in their orbits and hold them perfectly steady -

ਭੀ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਸਾਲਾਹਣਾ ਆਖਣ ਲਹੈ ਚਾਉ ॥੨॥
भी तूंहै सालाहणा आखण लहै न चाउ ॥२॥
Bẖī ṯūʼnhai salāhṇā ākẖaṇ lahai na cẖā▫o. ||2||
even then, I would worship and adore You, and my longing to chant Your Praises would not decrease. ||2||

Mėhlā 1.
First Mehl:

ਜੇ ਦੇਹੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਈਐ ਪਾਪ ਗਰਹ ਦੁਇ ਰਾਹੁ
जे देहै दुखु लाईऐ पाप गरह दुइ राहु ॥
Je ḏehai ḏukẖ lā▫ī▫ai pāp garah ḏu▫e rāhu.
If my body were afflicted with pain, under the evil influence of unlucky stars;

ਰਤੁ ਪੀਣੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਸਿਰੈ ਉਪਰਿ ਰਖੀਅਹਿ ਏਵੈ ਜਾਪੈ ਭਾਉ
रतु पीणे राजे सिरै उपरि रखीअहि एवै जापै भाउ ॥
Raṯ pīṇe rāje sirai upar rakẖī▫ahi evai jāpai bẖā▫o.
and if the blood-sucking kings were to hold power over me -

ਭੀ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਸਾਲਾਹਣਾ ਆਖਣ ਲਹੈ ਚਾਉ ॥੩॥
भी तूंहै सालाहणा आखण लहै न चाउ ॥३॥
Bẖī ṯūʼnhai salāhṇā ākẖaṇ lahai na cẖā▫o. ||3||
even if this were my condition, I would still worship and adore You, and my longing to chant Your Praises would not decrease. ||3||

मः १ ॥
Mėhlā 1.
First Mehl:

ਅਗੀ ਪਾਲਾ ਕਪੜੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਖਾਣਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਵਾਉ
अगी पाला कपड़ु होवै खाणा होवै वाउ ॥
Agī pālā kapaṛ hovai kẖāṇā hovai vā▫o.
If fire and ice were my clothes, and the wind was my food;

ਸੁਰਗੈ ਦੀਆ ਮੋਹਣੀਆ ਇਸਤਰੀਆ ਹੋਵਨਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਭੋ ਜਾਉ
सुरगै दीआ मोहणीआ इसतरीआ होवनि नानक सभो जाउ ॥
Surgai ḏī▫ā mohṇī▫ā isṯarī▫ā hovan Nānak sabẖo jā▫o.
and even if the enticing heavenly beauties were my wives, O Nanak-all this shall pass away!

ਭੀ ਤੂਹੈ ਸਾਲਾਹਣਾ ਆਖਣ ਲਹੈ ਚਾਉ ॥੪॥
भी तूहै सालाहणा आखण लहै न चाउ ॥४॥
Bẖī ṯūhai salāhṇā ākẖaṇ lahai na cẖā▫o. ||4||
Even then, I would worship and adore You, and my longing to chant Your Praises would not decrease. ||4||

ਪਵੜੀ
पवड़ी ॥
Pavṛī.
Pauree:

ਬਦਫੈਲੀ ਗੈਬਾਨਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਜਾਣਈ
बदफैली गैबाना खसमु न जाणई ॥
Baḏfailī gaibānā kẖasam na jāṇ▫ī.
The foolish demon, who does evil deeds, does not know his Lord and Master.

ਸੋ ਕਹੀਐ ਦੇਵਾਨਾ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਈ
सो कहीऐ देवाना आपु न पछाणई ॥
So kahī▫ai ḏevānā āp na pacẖẖāṇ▫ī.
Call him a mad-man, if he does not understand himself.

ਕਲਹਿ ਬੁਰੀ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ਵਾਦੇ ਖਪੀਐ
कलहि बुरी संसारि वादे खपीऐ ॥
Kalėh burī sansār vāḏe kẖapī▫ai.
The strife of this world is evil; these struggles are consuming it.

ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਵੇਕਾਰਿ ਭਰਮੇ ਪਚੀਐ
विणु नावै वेकारि भरमे पचीऐ ॥
viṇ nāvai vekār bẖarme pacẖī▫ai.
Without the Lord's Name, life is worthless. Through doubt, the people are being destroyed.

ਰਾਹ ਦੋਵੈ ਇਕੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਸੋਈ ਸਿਝਸੀ
राह दोवै इकु जाणै सोई सिझसी ॥
Rāh ḏovai ik jāṇai so▫ī sijẖsī.
One who recognizes that all spiritual paths lead to the One shall be emancipated.

ਕੁਫਰ ਗੋਅ ਕੁਫਰਾਣੈ ਪਇਆ ਦਝਸੀ
कुफर गोअ कुफराणै पइआ दझसी ॥
Kufar go▫a kufrāṇai pa▫i▫ā ḏajẖsī.
One who speaks lies shall fall into hell and burn.

ਸਭ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਸੁਬਹਾਨੁ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਈਐ
सभ दुनीआ सुबहानु सचि समाईऐ ॥
Sabẖ ḏunī▫ā sub▫hān sacẖ samā▫ī▫ai.
In all the world, the most blessed and sanctified are those who remain absorbed in Truth.

ਸਿਝੈ ਦਰਿ ਦੀਵਾਨਿ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਈਐ ॥੯॥
सिझै दरि दीवानि आपु गवाईऐ ॥९॥
Sijẖai ḏar ḏīvān āp gavā▫ī▫ai. ||9||
One who eliminates selfishness and conceit is redeemed in the Court of the Lord. ||9||

ਮਃ ਸਲੋਕੁ
मः १ सलोकु ॥
Mėhlā 1 salok.
First Mehl, Shalok:

ਸੋ ਜੀਵਿਆ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸੋਇ
सो जीविआ जिसु मनि वसिआ सोइ ॥
So jīvi▫ā jis man vasi▫ā so▫e.
They alone are truly alive, whose minds are filled with the Lord.

ਨਾਨਕ ਅਵਰੁ ਜੀਵੈ ਕੋਇ
नानक अवरु न जीवै कोइ ॥
Nānak avar na jīvai ko▫e.
O Nanak, no one else is truly alive;

ਜੇ ਜੀਵੈ ਪਤਿ ਲਥੀ ਜਾਇ
जे जीवै पति लथी जाइ ॥
Je jīvai paṯ lathī jā▫e.
those who merely live shall depart in dishonor;

ਸਭੁ ਹਰਾਮੁ ਜੇਤਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਖਾਇ
सभु हरामु जेता किछु खाइ ॥
Sabẖ harām jeṯā kicẖẖ kẖā▫e.
everything they eat is impure.

ਰਾਜਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਾਲਿ ਰੰਗੁ
राजि रंगु मालि रंगु ॥
Rāj rang māl rang.
Intoxicated with power and thrilled with wealth,

ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤਾ ਨਚੈ ਨੰਗੁ
रंगि रता नचै नंगु ॥
Rang raṯā nacẖai nang.
they delight in their pleasures, and dance about shamelessly.

ਨਾਨਕ ਠਗਿਆ ਮੁਠਾ ਜਾਇ
नानक ठगिआ मुठा जाइ ॥
Nānak ṯẖagi▫ā muṯẖā jā▫e.
O Nanak, they are deluded and defrauded.

ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਪਤਿ ਗਇਆ ਗਵਾਇ ॥੧॥
विणु नावै पति गइआ गवाइ ॥१॥
viṇ nāvai paṯ ga▫i▫ā gavā▫e. ||1||
Without the Lord's Name, they lose their honor and depart. ||1||

ਮਃ
मः १ ॥

ਕਿਆ ਖਾਧੈ ਕਿਆ ਪੈਧੈ ਹੋਇ
किआ खाधै किआ पैधै होइ ॥
Ki▫ā kẖāḏẖai ki▫ā paiḏẖai ho▫e.
What good is food, and what good are clothes,

ਜਾ ਮਨਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਇ
जा मनि नाही सचा सोइ ॥
Jā man nāhī sacẖā so▫e.
if the True Lord does not abide within the mind?

ਕਿਆ ਮੇਵਾ ਕਿਆ ਘਿਉ ਗੁੜੁ ਮਿਠਾ ਕਿਆ ਮੈਦਾ ਕਿਆ ਮਾਸੁ
किआ मेवा किआ घिउ गुड़ु मिठा किआ मैदा किआ मासु ॥
Ki▫ā mevā ki▫ā gẖi▫o guṛ miṯẖā ki▫ā maiḏā ki▫ā mās.
What good are fruits, what good is ghee, sweet jaggery, what good is flour, and what good is meat?

ਕਿਆ ਕਪੜੁ ਕਿਆ ਸੇਜ ਸੁਖਾਲੀ ਕੀਜਹਿ ਭੋਗ ਬਿਲਾਸ
किआ कपड़ु किआ सेज सुखाली कीजहि भोग बिलास ॥
Ki▫ā kapaṛ ki▫ā sej sukẖālī kījėh bẖog bilās.
What good are clothes, and what good is a soft bed, to enjoy pleasures and sensual delights?

ਕਿਆ ਲਸਕਰ ਕਿਆ ਨੇਬ ਖਵਾਸੀ ਆਵੈ ਮਹਲੀ ਵਾਸੁ
किआ लसकर किआ नेब खवासी आवै महली वासु ॥
Ki▫ā laskar ki▫ā neb kẖavāsī āvai mahlī vās.
What good is an army, and what good are soldiers, servants and mansions to live in?

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਣੁ ਸਭੇ ਟੋਲ ਵਿਣਾਸੁ ॥੨॥
नानक सचे नाम विणु सभे टोल विणासु ॥२॥
Nānak sacẖe nām viṇ sabẖe tol viṇās. ||2||
O Nanak, without the True Name, all this paraphernalia shall disappear. ||2||

ਪਵੜੀ
पवड़ी ॥
Pavṛī.
Pauree:

ਜਾਤੀ ਦੈ ਕਿਆ ਹਥਿ ਸਚੁ ਪਰਖੀਐ
जाती दै किआ हथि सचु परखीऐ ॥
Jāṯī ḏai ki▫ā hath sacẖ parkẖī▫ai.
What good is social class and status? Truthfulness is measured within.

ਮਹੁਰਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਹਥਿ ਮਰੀਐ ਚਖੀਐ
महुरा होवै हथि मरीऐ चखीऐ ॥
Mahurā hovai hath marī▫ai cẖakẖī▫ai.
Pride in one's status is like poison-holding it in your hand and eating it, you shall die.

ਸਚੇ ਕੀ ਸਿਰਕਾਰ ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਜਾਣੀਐ
सचे की सिरकार जुगु जुगु जाणीऐ ॥
Sacẖe kī sirkār jug jug jāṇī▫ai.
The True Lord's Sovereign Rule is known throughout the ages.

ਹੁਕਮੁ ਮੰਨੇ ਸਿਰਦਾਰੁ ਦਰਿ ਦੀਬਾਣੀਐ
हुकमु मंने सिरदारु दरि दीबाणीऐ ॥
Hukam manne sirḏār ḏar ḏībāṇī▫ai.
One who respects the Hukam of the Lord's Command is honored and respected in the Court of the Lord.

ਫੁਰਮਾਨੀ ਹੈ ਕਾਰ ਖਸਮਿ ਪਠਾਇਆ
फुरमानी है कार खसमि पठाइआ ॥
Furmānī hai kār kẖasam paṯẖā▫i▫ā.
By the Order of our Lord and Master, we have been brought into this world.

ਤਬਲਬਾਜ ਬੀਚਾਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ
तबलबाज बीचार सबदि सुणाइआ ॥
Ŧabalbāj bīcẖār sabaḏ suṇā▫i▫ā.
The Drummer, the Guru, has announced the Lord's meditation, through the Word of the Shabad.

ਇਕਿ ਹੋਏ ਅਸਵਾਰ ਇਕਨਾ ਸਾਖਤੀ
इकि होए असवार इकना साखती ॥
Ik ho▫e asvār iknā sākẖ▫ṯī.
Some have mounted their horses in response, and others are saddling up.

ਇਕਨੀ ਬਧੇ ਭਾਰ ਇਕਨਾ ਤਾਖਤੀ ॥੧੦॥
इकनी बधे भार इकना ताखती ॥१०॥
Iknī baḏẖe bẖār iknā ṯākẖ▫ṯī. ||10||
Some have tied up their bridles, and others have already ridden off. ||10||

ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਃ
सलोकु मः १ ॥
Salok mėhlā 1.
Shalok, First Mehl:

ਜਾ ਪਕਾ ਤਾ ਕਟਿਆ ਰਹੀ ਸੁ ਪਲਰਿ ਵਾੜਿ
जा पका ता कटिआ रही सु पलरि वाड़ि ॥
Jā pakā ṯā kati▫ā rahī so palar vāṛ.
When the crop is ripe, then it is cut down; only the stalks are left standing.

ਸਣੁ ਕੀਸਾਰਾ ਚਿਥਿਆ ਕਣੁ ਲਇਆ ਤਨੁ ਝਾੜਿ
सणु कीसारा चिथिआ कणु लइआ तनु झाड़ि ॥
Saṇ kīsārā cẖithi▫ā kaṇ la▫i▫ā ṯan jẖāṛ.
The corn on the cob is put into the thresher, and the kernels are separated from the cobs.

ਦੁਇ ਪੁੜ ਚਕੀ ਜੋੜਿ ਕੈ ਪੀਸਣ ਆਇ ਬਹਿਠੁ
दुइ पुड़ चकी जोड़ि कै पीसण आइ बहिठु ॥
Ḏu▫e puṛ cẖakī joṛ kai pīsaṇ ā▫e bahiṯẖ.
Placing the kernels between the two mill-stones, people sit and grind the corn.

ਜੋ ਦਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਸੁ ਉਬਰੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਜਬੁ ਡਿਠੁ ॥੧॥
जो दरि रहे सु उबरे नानक अजबु डिठु ॥१॥
Jo ḏar rahe so ubre Nānak ajab diṯẖ. ||1||
Those kernels which stick to the central axle are spared-Nanak has seen this wonderful vision! ||1||

ਮਃ

ਵੇਖੁ ਜਿ ਮਿਠਾ ਕਟਿਆ ਕਟਿ ਕੁਟਿ ਬਧਾ ਪਾਇ
वेखु जि मिठा कटिआ कटि कुटि बधा पाइ ॥
vekẖ jė miṯẖā kati▫ā kat kut baḏẖā pā▫e.
Look, and see how the sugar-cane is cut down. After cutting away its branches, its feet are bound together into bundles,
