ਆਇਆ ਗਇਆ ਮੁਇਆ ਨਾਉ ॥
आइआ गइआ मुइआ नाउ ॥
Ā▫i▫ā ga▫i▫ā mu▫i▫ā nā▫o.
He came and departed and even his Name is dead.
|
ਪਿਛੈ ਪਤਲਿ ਸਦਿਹੁ ਕਾਵ ॥
पिछै पतलि सदिहु काव ॥
Picẖẖai paṯal saḏihu kāv.
After him food is offered on leaves and the crows are called.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਧੁ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
नानक मनमुखि अंधु पिआरु ॥
Nānak manmukẖ anḏẖ pi▫ār.
Nanak, the wayward love the spiritual darkness.
|
ਬਾਝੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਡੁਬਾ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
बाझु गुरू डुबा संसारु ॥२॥
Bājẖ gurū dubā sansār. ||2||
Without the Guru the world is drowned.
|

Mėhlā 1.
First Guru.
|
ਦਸ ਬਾਲਤਣਿ ਬੀਸ ਰਵਣਿ ਤੀਸਾ ਕਾ ਸੁੰਦਰੁ ਕਹਾਵੈ ॥
दस बालतणि बीस रवणि तीसा का सुंदरु कहावै ॥
Ḏas bālṯaṇ bīs ravaṇ ṯīsā kā sunḏar kahāvai.
At ten one is a child at twenty a youth and at thirty he is called handsome.
|
ਚਾਲੀਸੀ ਪੁਰੁ ਹੋਇ ਪਚਾਸੀ ਪਗੁ ਖਿਸੈ ਸਠੀ ਕੇ ਬੋਢੇਪਾ ਆਵੈ ॥
चालीसी पुरु होइ पचासी पगु खिसै सठी के बोढेपा आवै ॥
Cẖālīsī pur ho▫e pacẖāsī pag kẖisai saṯẖī ke bodẖepā āvai.
At forty he is full at fifty his foot falls back and at sixty old age comes on.

ਸਤਰਿ ਕਾ ਮਤਿਹੀਣੁ ਅਸੀਹਾਂ ਕਾ ਵਿਉਹਾਰੁ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
सतरि का मतिहीणु असीहां का विउहारु न पावै ॥
Saṯar kā maṯihīṇ asīhāʼn kā vi▫uhār na pāvai.
At seventy he loses his intellect and at eighty he cannot perform his duties.
|
ਨਵੈ ਕਾ ਸਿਹਜਾਸਣੀ ਮੂਲਿ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਅਪ ਬਲੁ ॥
नवै का सिहजासणी मूलि न जाणै अप बलु ॥
Navai kā sihjāsṇī mūl na jāṇai ap bal.
At ninety his seat is on the cot, and being weak he absolutely understand not what strength is
|
ਢੰਢੋਲਿਮੁ ਢੂਢਿਮੁ ਡਿਠੁ ਮੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਗੁ ਧੂਏ ਕਾ ਧਵਲਹਰੁ ॥੩॥
ढंढोलिमु ढूढिमु डिठु मै नानक जगु धूए का धवलहरु ॥३॥
Dẖandẖolim dẖūdẖim diṯẖ mai Nānak jag ḏẖū▫e kā ḏẖavalhar. ||3||
Searching and seeking I have seen, O Nanak! that the world is a mansion of smoke.

|
ਤੂੰ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਗੰਮੁ ਹੈ ਆਪਿ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਤੀ ॥
तूं करता पुरखु अगमु है आपि स्रिसटि उपाती ॥
Ŧūʼn karṯā purakẖ agamm hai āp sarisat upāṯī.
Thou, O omnipotent and unapproachable Creator! Thyself hast created the universe.
|
ਰੰਗ ਪਰੰਗ ਉਪਾਰਜਨਾ ਬਹੁ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਭਾਤੀ ॥
रंग परंग उपारजना बहु बहु बिधि भाती ॥
Rang parang upārjanā baho baho biḏẖ bẖāṯī.
In good many ways Thou hast fashioned the creation of various colours, wonderful dyes and kinds.
|
ਤੂੰ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਉਪਾਈਐ ਸਭੁ ਖੇਲੁ ਤੁਮਾਤੀ ॥
तूं जाणहि जिनि उपाईऐ सभु खेलु तुमाती ॥
Ŧūʼn jāṇėh jin upā▫ī▫ai sabẖ kẖel ṯumāṯī.
Thou, who hast made it, understandest it. It is all a play of Thine.
|
ਇਕਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਇਕਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਉਠਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਤੀ ॥
इकि आवहि इकि जाहि उठि बिनु नावै मरि जाती ॥
Ik āvahi ik jāhi uṯẖ bin nāvai mar jāṯī.
Some are born, others get up and depart. Without the Name all die away.
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਚਲੂਲਿਆ ਰੰਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੀ ॥
गुरमुखि रंगि चलूलिआ रंगि हरि रंगि राती ॥
Gurmukẖ rang cẖalūli▫ā rang har rang rāṯī.
The Guruwards have poppy flower like dye. They are imbued with the colour of God's love.
|
ਸੋ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਸਤਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੋ ਹਰਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਬਿਧਾਤੀ ॥
सो सेवहु सति निरंजनो हरि पुरखु बिधाती ॥
So sevhu saṯ niranjano har purakẖ biḏẖāṯī.
Serve that True and Pure God who is All-powerful and the Destiny -scribe.

ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ਹੈ ਵਡ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਵਡਾਤੀ ॥
तूं आपे आपि सुजाणु है वड पुरखु वडाती ॥
Ŧūʼn āpe āp sujāṇ hai vad purakẖ vadāṯī.
Thou Thyself art wise O Lord! Of the great Thine is the greatest personality.
|
ਜੋ ਮਨਿ ਚਿਤਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਧਿਆਇਦੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਚਿਆ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਜਾਤੀ ॥੧॥
जो मनि चिति तुधु धिआइदे मेरे सचिआ बलि बलि हउ तिन जाती ॥१॥
Jo man cẖiṯ ṯuḏẖ ḏẖi▫ā▫iḏe mere sacẖi▫ā bal bal ha▫o ṯin jāṯī. ||1||
I am a sacrifice and devoted unto those who O My True Lord! remember Thee within their hearts and minds.

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੧ ॥
सलोक मः १ ॥
Salok mėhlā 1.
Slok, First Guru.
|
ਜੀਉ ਪਾਇ ਤਨੁ ਸਾਜਿਆ ਰਖਿਆ ਬਣਤ ਬਣਾਇ ॥
जीउ पाइ तनु साजिआ रखिआ बणत बणाइ ॥
Jī▫o pā▫e ṯan sāji▫ā rakẖi▫ā baṇaṯ baṇā▫e.
Having created the body the Creator infused Life therein and made arrangements to protect it.

ਅਖੀ ਦੇਖੈ ਜਿਹਵਾ ਬੋਲੈ ਕੰਨੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
अखी देखै जिहवा बोलै कंनी सुरति समाइ ॥
Akẖī ḏekẖai jihvā bolai kannī suraṯ samā▫e.
Man sees with his eyes speaks with his tongue and fixes his attention by gearing with his ears.
|
ਪੈਰੀ ਚਲੈ ਹਥੀ ਕਰਣਾ ਦਿਤਾ ਪੈਨੈ ਖਾਇ ॥
पैरी चलै हथी करणा दिता पैनै खाइ ॥
Pairī cẖalai hathī karṇā ḏiṯā painai kẖā▫e.
He walks with feet, works with hands and wears and eats what is given to him.
|
ਜਿਨਿ ਰਚਿ ਰਚਿਆ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਅੰਧਾ ਅੰਧੁ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
जिनि रचि रचिआ तिसहि न जाणै अंधा अंधु कमाइ ॥
Jin racẖ racẖi▫ā ṯisėh na jāṇai anḏẖā anḏẖ kamā▫e.
He knows not Him who made the make. The blind man does dark deeds.
|
ਜਾ ਭਜੈ ਤਾ ਠੀਕਰੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਘਾੜਤ ਘੜੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
जा भजै ता ठीकरु होवै घाड़त घड़ी न जाइ ॥
Jā bẖajai ṯā ṯẖīkar hovai gẖāṛaṯ gẖaṛī na jā▫e.
When the pitcher breaks it crumbles into pot-pieces then and its mould cannot be remoulded.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਹਿ ਪਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਵਿਣੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥
नानक गुर बिनु नाहि पति पति विणु पारि न पाइ ॥१॥
Nānak gur bin nāhi paṯ paṯ viṇ pār na pā▫e. ||1||
Nanak, without the Guru there is no honour and without this honour one cannot ferry across.
|

Mėhlā 2.
Second Guru.
|
ਦੇਂਦੇ ਥਾਵਹੁ ਦਿਤਾ ਚੰਗਾ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਐਸਾ ਜਾਣੀਐ ॥
देंदे थावहु दिता चंगा मनमुखि ऐसा जाणीऐ ॥
Ḏeʼnḏe thāvhu ḏiṯā cẖanga manmukẖ aisā jāṇī▫ai.
The gift is preferable to the Giver. Understand the perverse person to be such.
|
ਸੁਰਤਿ ਮਤਿ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਿ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣੀਐ ॥
सुरति मति चतुराई ता की किआ करि आखि वखाणीऐ ॥
Suraṯ maṯ cẖaṯurā▫ī ṯā kī ki▫ā kar ākẖ vakẖāṇī▫ai.
What should be said and told regarding his intelligence, understanding and cleverness?
|
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਹਿ ਕੈ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਚਹੁ ਕੁੰਡੀ ਜਾਣੀਐ ॥
अंतरि बहि कै करम कमावै सो चहु कुंडी जाणीऐ ॥
Anṯar bahi kai karam kamāvai so cẖahu kundī jāṇī▫ai.
The deeds which the mortal commits sitting inside they are known in four directions.
|
ਜੋ ਧਰਮੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਧਰਮ ਨਾਉ ਹੋਵੈ ਪਾਪਿ ਕਮਾਣੈ ਪਾਪੀ ਜਾਣੀਐ ॥
जो धरमु कमावै तिसु धरम नाउ होवै पापि कमाणै पापी जाणीऐ ॥
Jo ḏẖaram kamāvai ṯis ḏẖaram nā▫o hovai pāp kamāṇai pāpī jāṇī▫ai.
He, who practises virtue goes by the Name of virtuous and he who commits sins is known a sinner.
|
ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਖੇਲ ਕਰਹਿ ਸਭਿ ਕਰਤੇ ਕਿਆ ਦੂਜਾ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣੀਐ ॥
तूं आपे खेल करहि सभि करते किआ दूजा आखि वखाणीऐ ॥
Ŧūʼn āpe kẖel karahi sabẖ karṯe ki▫ā ḏūjā ākẖ vakẖāṇī▫ai.
Thou Thyself performest the entire play, O Creator! Why to speak and talk of another?

ਜਿਚਰੁ ਤੇਰੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਤਿਚਰੁ ਜੋਤੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਤੂੰ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਵਿਣੁ ਜੋਤੀ ਕੋਈ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਿਹੁ ਦਿਖਾ ਸਿਆਣੀਐ ॥
जिचरु तेरी जोति तिचरु जोती विचि तूं बोलहि विणु जोती कोई किछु करिहु दिखा सिआणीऐ ॥
Jicẖar ṯerī joṯ ṯicẖar joṯī vicẖ ṯūʼn bolėh viṇ joṯī ko▫ī kicẖẖ karihu ḏikẖā si▫āṇī▫ai.
O Lord! as long as Thy light is in the body so long Thou speakest in the illumined body. If some one shows that he has accomplished something without Thy light I would call him wise.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਦਰੀ ਆਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਇਕੋ ਸੁਘੜੁ ਸੁਜਾਣੀਐ ॥੨॥
नानक गुरमुखि नदरी आइआ हरि इको सुघड़ु सुजाणीऐ ॥२॥
Nānak gurmukẖ naḏrī ā▫i▫ā har iko sugẖaṛ sujāṇī▫ai. ||2||
Nanak, God who alone is accomplished and omniscient is made manifest by the Guru's instruction.

|
ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪੇ ਜਗਤੁ ਉਪਾਇ ਕੈ ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪੇ ਧੰਧੈ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
तुधु आपे जगतु उपाइ कै तुधु आपे धंधै लाइआ ॥
Ŧuḏẖ āpe jagaṯ upā▫e kai ṯuḏẖ āpe ḏẖanḏẖai lā▫i▫ā.
Thou Thyself created the world and Thou Thyself put it to work.
|
ਮੋਹ ਠਗਉਲੀ ਪਾਇ ਕੈ ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪਹੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਖੁਆਇਆ ॥
मोह ठगउली पाइ कै तुधु आपहु जगतु खुआइआ ॥
Moh ṯẖag▫ulī pā▫e kai ṯuḏẖ āphu jagaṯ kẖu▫ā▫i▫ā.
Giving to eat the intoxicating herb of worldly love, Thou Thyself hast led astray the world.
|
ਤਿਸਨਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਅਗਨਿ ਹੈ ਨਹ ਤਿਪਤੈ ਭੁਖਾ ਤਿਹਾਇਆ ॥
तिसना अंदरि अगनि है नह तिपतै भुखा तिहाइआ ॥
Ŧisnā anḏar agan hai nah ṯipṯai bẖukẖā ṯihā▫i▫ā.
Within the mortal is the fire of desire. He gets not satiated and remains hungry and thirsty.
|
ਸਹਸਾ ਇਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮੈ ਆਇਆ ਜਾਇਆ ॥
सहसा इहु संसारु है मरि जमै आइआ जाइआ ॥
Sahsā ih sansār hai mar jammai ā▫i▫ā jā▫i▫ā.
Illusion is this world. It perishes, is reborn, comes and goes.
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮੋਹੁ ਨ ਤੁਟਈ ਸਭਿ ਥਕੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥
बिनु सतिगुर मोहु न तुटई सभि थके करम कमाइआ ॥
Bin saṯgur moh na ṯut▫ī sabẖ thake karam kamā▫i▫ā.
Without the True Guru secular attachment sunders not. All have grown weary of performing rituals.

ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਸੁਖਿ ਰਜਾ ਜਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
गुरमती नामु धिआईऐ सुखि रजा जा तुधु भाइआ ॥
Gurmaṯī nām ḏẖi▫ā▫ī▫ai sukẖ rajā jā ṯuḏẖ bẖā▫i▫ā.
When it pleases Thee, O Lord! the mortal is sated with joy by remembering the Name under the Guru's instruction.

ਕੁਲੁ ਉਧਾਰੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਧੰਨੁ ਜਣੇਦੀ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
कुलु उधारे आपणा धंनु जणेदी माइआ ॥
Kul uḏẖāre āpṇā ḏẖan jaṇeḏī mā▫i▫ā.
He saves his lineage. Blest is the mother who gave birth to him.
