ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਜਾਗ੍ਰਣੁ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਪਵਈ ਥਾਇ ॥
हउमै विचि जाग्रणु न होवई हरि भगति न पवई थाइ ॥
Ha▫umai vicẖ jāgraṇ na hova▫ī har bẖagaṯ na pav▫ī thā▫e.
In egotism, one cannot remain awake and aware, and one's devotional worship of the Lord is not accepted.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਦਰਿ ਢੋਈ ਨਾ ਲਹਹਿ ਭਾਇ ਦੂਜੈ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥੪॥
मनमुख दरि ढोई ना लहहि भाइ दूजै करम कमाइ ॥४॥
Manmukẖ ḏar dẖo▫ī nā lahėh bẖā▫e ḏūjai karam kamā▫e. ||4||
The self-willed manmukhs find no place in the Court of the Lord; they do their deeds in the love of duality. ||4||

ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਖਾਣਾ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਪੈਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਣਾ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
ध्रिगु खाणा ध्रिगु पैन्हणा जिन्हा दूजै भाइ पिआरु ॥
Ḏẖarig kẖāṇā ḏẖarig painĥṇā jinĥā ḏūjai bẖā▫e pi▫ār.
Cursed is the food, and cursed are the clothes, of those who are attached to the love of duality.

ਬਿਸਟਾ ਕੇ ਕੀੜੇ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਰਾਤੇ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਹੋਹਿ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥੫॥
बिसटा के कीड़े बिसटा राते मरि जमहि होहि खुआरु ॥५॥
Bistā ke kīṛe bistā rāṯe mar jamėh hohi kẖu▫ār. ||5||
They are like maggots in manure, sinking into manure. In death and rebirth, they are wasted away to ruin. ||5||

ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਤਿਨਾ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥
जिन कउ सतिगुरु भेटिआ तिना विटहु बलि जाउ ॥
Jin ka▫o saṯgur bẖeti▫ā ṯinā vitahu bal jā▫o.
I am a sacrifice to those who meet with the True Guru.

ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹਾਂ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਉ ॥੬॥
तिन की संगति मिलि रहां सचे सचि समाउ ॥६॥
Ŧin kī sangaṯ mil rahāʼn sacẖe sacẖ samā▫o. ||6||
I shall continue to associate with them; devoted to Truth, I am absorbed in Truth. ||6||

ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਉਪਾਇ ਕਿਤੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
पूरै भागि गुरु पाईऐ उपाइ कितै न पाइआ जाइ ॥
Pūrai bẖāg gur pā▫ī▫ai upā▫e kiṯai na pā▫i▫ā jā▫e.
By perfect destiny, the Guru is found. He cannot be found by any efforts.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸਹਜੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਇ ॥੭॥
सतिगुर ते सहजु ऊपजै हउमै सबदि जलाइ ॥७॥
Saṯgur ṯe sahj ūpjai ha▫umai sabaḏ jalā▫e. ||7||
Through the True Guru, intuitive wisdom wells up; through the Word of the Shabad, egotism is burnt away. ||7||

ਹਰਿ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਭਜੁ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਣੈ ਜੋਗੁ ॥
हरि सरणाई भजु मन मेरे सभ किछु करणै जोगु ॥
Har sarṇā▫ī bẖaj man mere sabẖ kicẖẖ karṇai jog.
O my mind, hurry to the Sanctuary of the Lord; He is Potent to do everything.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੈ ਸੁ ਹੋਗੁ ॥੮॥੨॥੭॥੨॥੯॥
नानक नामु न वीसरै जो किछु करै सु होगु ॥८॥२॥७॥२॥९॥
Nānak nām na vīsrai jo kicẖẖ karai so hog. ||8||2||7||2||9||
O Nanak, never forget the Naam, the Name of the Lord. Whatever He does, comes to pass. ||8||2||7||2||9||

ਚੂਗਹਿ ਚੋਗ ਅਨੰਦ ਸਿਉ ਜੁਗਤਾ ॥
चूगहि चोग अनंद सिउ जुगता ॥

ਉਰਝਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਮਨ ਮੀਠ ਮੋੁਹਾਰਾ ॥
उरझि परिओ मन मीठ मोहारा ॥
Urajẖ pari▫o man mīṯẖ mohārā.
The mind is entangled in sweet emotional attachment.

ਗੁਨ ਗਾਹਕ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥੧॥
गुन गाहक मेरे प्रान अधारा ॥१॥
Gun gāhak mere parān aḏẖārā. ||1||
Those who seek God's Glorious Virtues are the support of my breath of life. ||1||
|
ਏਕੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥
एकु हमारा अंतरजामी ॥
Ėk hamārā anṯarjāmī.
My One Lord is the Inner-Knower, the Searcher of hearts.

ਧਰ ਏਕਾ ਮੈ ਟਿਕ ਏਕਸੁ ਕੀ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਾਹਾ ਵਡ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
धर एका मै टिक एकसु की सिरि साहा वड पुरखु सुआमी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Ḏẖar ekā mai tik ekas kī sir sāhā vad purakẖ su▫āmī. ||1|| rahā▫o.
He alone is my Support; He is my only Protection. My Great Lord and Master is over and above the heads of kings. ||1||Pause||

ਛਲ ਨਾਗਨਿ ਸਿਉ ਮੇਰੀ ਟੂਟਨਿ ਹੋਈ ॥
छल नागनि सिउ मेरी टूटनि होई ॥
Cẖẖal nāgan si▫o merī tūtan ho▫ī.
I have broken my ties to that deceitful serpent.

ਗੁਰਿ ਕਹਿਆ ਇਹ ਝੂਠੀ ਧੋਹੀ ॥
गुरि कहिआ इह झूठी धोही ॥
Gur kahi▫ā ih jẖūṯẖī ḏẖohī.
The Guru has told me that it is false and fraudulent.

ਮੁਖਿ ਮੀਠੀ ਖਾਈ ਕਉਰਾਇ ॥
मुखि मीठी खाई कउराइ ॥
Mukẖ mīṯẖī kẖā▫ī ka▫urā▫e.
Its face is sweet, but it tastes very bitter.
|
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਨੁ ਰਹਿਆ ਅਘਾਇ ॥੨॥
अम्रित नामि मनु रहिआ अघाइ ॥२॥
Amriṯ nām man rahi▫ā agẖā▫e. ||2||
My mind remains satisfied with the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||2||
|
ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਸਿਉ ਗਈ ਵਿਖੋਟਿ ॥
लोभ मोह सिउ गई विखोटि ॥
Lobẖ moh si▫o ga▫ī vikẖot.
I have broken my ties with greed and emotional attachment.
|
ਗੁਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਕੀਨੀ ਛੋਟਿ ॥
गुरि क्रिपालि मोहि कीनी छोटि ॥
Gur kirpāl mohi kīnī cẖẖot.
The Merciful Guru has rescued me from them.
|
ਇਹ ਠਗਵਾਰੀ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਘਰ ਗਾਲੇ ॥
इह ठगवारी बहुतु घर गाले ॥
Ih ṯẖagvārī bahuṯ gẖar gāle.
These cheating thieves have plundered so many homes.
|
ਹਮ ਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਏ ਕਿਰਪਾਲੇ ॥੩॥
हम गुरि राखि लीए किरपाले ॥३॥
Ham gur rākẖ lī▫e kirpāle. ||3||
The Merciful Guru has protected and saved me. ||3||
|
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਸਿਉ ਠਾਟੁ ਨ ਬਨਿਆ ॥
काम क्रोध सिउ ठाटु न बनिआ ॥
Kām kroḏẖ si▫o ṯẖāt na bani▫ā.
I have no dealings whatsoever with sexual desire and anger.
|
ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਕਾਨੀ ਸੁਨਿਆ ॥
गुर उपदेसु मोहि कानी सुनिआ ॥
Gur upḏes mohi kānī suni▫ā.
I listen to the Guru's Teachings.

ਜਹ ਦੇਖਉ ਤਹ ਮਹਾ ਚੰਡਾਲ ॥
जह देखउ तह महा चंडाल ॥
Jah ḏekẖ▫a▫u ṯah mahā cẖandāl.
Wherever I look, I see the most horrible goblins.
|
ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਏ ਅਪੁਨੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥੪॥
राखि लीए अपुनै गुरि गोपाल ॥४॥
Rākẖ lī▫e apunai gur gopāl. ||4||
My Guru, the Lord of the World, has saved me from them. ||4||

ਦਸ ਨਾਰੀ ਮੈ ਕਰੀ ਦੁਹਾਗਨਿ ॥
दस नारी मै करी दुहागनि ॥
Ḏas nārī mai karī ḏuhāgan.
I have made widows of the ten sensory organs.
|
ਗੁਰਿ ਕਹਿਆ ਏਹ ਰਸਹਿ ਬਿਖਾਗਨਿ ॥
गुरि कहिआ एह रसहि बिखागनि ॥
Gur kahi▫ā eh rasėh bikẖāgan.
The Guru has told me that these pleasures are the fires of corruption.

ਇਨ ਸਨਬੰਧੀ ਰਸਾਤਲਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
इन सनबंधी रसातलि जाइ ॥
In sanbanḏẖī rasāṯal jā▫e.
Those who associate with them go to hell.
|
ਹਮ ਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੫॥
हम गुरि राखे हरि लिव लाइ ॥५॥
Ham gur rākẖe har liv lā▫e. ||5||
The Guru has saved me; I am lovingly attuned to the Lord. ||5||
|
ਅਹੰਮੇਵ ਸਿਉ ਮਸਲਤਿ ਛੋਡੀ ॥
अहमेव सिउ मसलति छोडी ॥
Ahaʼnmev si▫o maslaṯ cẖẖodī.
I have forsaken the advice of my ego.
|
ਗੁਰਿ ਕਹਿਆ ਇਹੁ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਹੋਡੀ ॥
गुरि कहिआ इहु मूरखु होडी ॥
Gur kahi▫ā ih mūrakẖ hodī.
The Guru has told me that this is foolish stubbornness.
|
ਇਹੁ ਨੀਘਰੁ ਘਰੁ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥
इहु नीघरु घरु कही न पाए ॥
Ih nīgẖar gẖar kahī na pā▫e.
This ego is homeless; it shall never find a home.
|
ਹਮ ਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਏ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥੬॥
हम गुरि राखि लीए लिव लाए ॥६॥
Ham gur rākẖ lī▫e liv lā▫e. ||6||
The Guru has saved me; I am lovingly attuned to the Lord. ||6||
|
ਇਨ ਲੋਗਨ ਸਿਉ ਹਮ ਭਏ ਬੈਰਾਈ ॥
इन लोगन सिउ हम भए बैराई ॥
In logan si▫o ham bẖa▫e bairā▫ī.
I have become alienated from these people.
|
ਏਕ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਮਹਿ ਦੁਇ ਨ ਖਟਾਂਈ ॥
एक ग्रिह महि दुइ न खटांई ॥
Ėk garih mėh ḏu▫e na kẖatāʼn▫ī.
We cannot both live together in one home.
|
ਆਏ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਹਿ ਅੰਚਰਿ ਲਾਗਿ ॥
आए प्रभ पहि अंचरि लागि ॥
Ā▫e parabẖ pėh ancẖar lāg.
Grasping the hem of the Guru's Robe, I have come to God.

ਕਰਹੁ ਤਪਾਵਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਬਾਗਿ ॥੭॥
करहु तपावसु प्रभ सरबागि ॥७॥
Karahu ṯapāvas parabẖ sarbāg. ||7||
Please be fair with me, All-knowing Lord God. ||7||

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਹਸਿ ਬੋਲੇ ਕੀਏ ਨਿਆਂਏਂ ॥
प्रभ हसि बोले कीए निआंएं ॥
Parabẖ has bole kī▫e ni▫āʼn▫eʼn.
God smiled at me and spoke, passing judgment.

ਸਗਲ ਦੂਤ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਏ ॥
सगल दूत मेरी सेवा लाए ॥
Sagal ḏūṯ merī sevā lā▫e.
He made all the demons perform service for me.
|
ਤੂੰ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਇਹੁ ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਸਭੁ ਤੇਰਾ ॥
तूं ठाकुरु इहु ग्रिहु सभु तेरा ॥
Ŧūʼn ṯẖākur ih garihu sabẖ ṯerā.
You are my Lord and Master; all this home belongs to You.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਿ ਕੀਆ ਨਿਬੇਰਾ ॥੮॥੧॥
कहु नानक गुरि कीआ निबेरा ॥८॥१॥
Kaho Nānak gur kī▫ā niberā. ||8||1||
Says Nanak, the Guru has passed judgment. ||8||1||
