ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੀਐ ਲਗੈ ਸਚਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
गुरमुखि आपु वीचारीऐ लगै सचि पिआरु ॥
Gurmukẖ āp vīcẖārī▫ai lagai sacẖ pi▫ār.
The Gurmukh reflects on the self, lovingly attached to the True Lord.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਖੀਐ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੧੦॥
नानक किस नो आखीऐ आपे देवणहारु ॥१०॥
Nānak kis no ākẖī▫ai āpe ḏevaṇhār. ||10||
O Nanak, whom can we ask? He Himself is the Great Giver. ||10||

ਬਾਬੀਹਾ ਏਹੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਹੈ ਮਤ ਕੋ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇ ॥
बाबीहा एहु जगतु है मत को भरमि भुलाइ ॥
Bābīhā ehu jagaṯ hai maṯ ko bẖaram bẖulā▫e.
This world is a rainbird; let no one be deluded by doubt.

ਇਹੁ ਬਾਬੀਂਹਾ ਪਸੂ ਹੈ ਇਸ ਨੋ ਬੂਝਣੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
इहु बाबींहा पसू है इस नो बूझणु नाहि ॥
Ih bābīʼnhā pasū hai is no būjẖaṇ nāhi.
This rainbird is an animal; it has no understanding at all.

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਤੁ ਪੀਤੈ ਤਿਖ ਜਾਇ ॥
अम्रितु हरि का नामु है जितु पीतै तिख जाइ ॥
Amriṯ har kā nām hai jiṯ pīṯai ṯikẖ jā▫e.
The Name of the Lord is Ambrosial Nectar; drinking it in, thirst is quenched.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਪੀਆ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਲਾਗੀ ਆਇ ॥੧॥
नानक गुरमुखि जिन्ह पीआ तिन्ह बहुड़ि न लागी आइ ॥१॥
Nānak gurmukẖ jinĥ pī▫ā ṯinĥ bahuṛ na lāgī ā▫e. ||1||
O Nanak, those Gurmukhs who drink it in shall never again be afflicted by thirst. ||1||

ਮਲਾਰੁ ਸੀਤਲ ਰਾਗੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇਐ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
मलारु सीतल रागु है हरि धिआइऐ सांति होइ ॥
Malār sīṯal rāg hai har ḏẖi▫ā▫i▫ai sāʼnṯ ho▫e.
Malaar is a calming and soothing raga; meditating on the Lord brings peace and tranquility.

ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਅਪਣੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ ਵਰਤੈ ਸਭ ਲੋਇ ॥
हरि जीउ अपणी क्रिपा करे तां वरतै सभ लोइ ॥
Har jī▫o apṇī kirpā kare ṯāʼn varṯai sabẖ lo▫e.
When the Dear Lord grants His Grace, then the rain falls on all the people of the world.
|
ਵੁਠੈ ਜੀਆ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਧਰਣੀ ਨੋ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
वुठै जीआ जुगति होइ धरणी नो सीगारु होइ ॥
vuṯẖai jī▫ā jugaṯ ho▫e ḏẖarṇī no sīgār ho▫e.
From this rain, all creatures find the ways and means to live, and the earth is embellished.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਸਭੁ ਜਲੁ ਹੈ ਜਲ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਕੋਇ ॥
नानक इहु जगतु सभु जलु है जल ही ते सभ कोइ ॥
Nānak ih jagaṯ sabẖ jal hai jal hī ṯe sabẖ ko▫e.
O Nanak, this world is all water; everything came from water.
|
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਕੋ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੂਝੈ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਸਦਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
गुर परसादी को विरला बूझै सो जनु मुकतु सदा होइ ॥२॥
Gur parsādī ko virlā būjẖai so jan mukaṯ saḏā ho▫e. ||2||
By Guru's Grace, a rare few realize the Lord; such humble beings are liberated forever. ||2||

ਸਚਾ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ਇਕੋ ਤੂ ਧਣੀ ॥
सचा वेपरवाहु इको तू धणी ॥
Sacẖā veparvāhu iko ṯū ḏẖaṇī.
O True and Independent Lord God, You alone are my Lord and Master.
|
ਤੂ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਦੂਜੇ ਕਿਸੁ ਗਣੀ ॥
तू सभु किछु आपे आपि दूजे किसु गणी ॥
Ŧū sabẖ kicẖẖ āpe āp ḏūje kis gaṇī.
You Yourself are everything; who else is of any account?
|
ਮਾਣਸ ਕੂੜਾ ਗਰਬੁ ਸਚੀ ਤੁਧੁ ਮਣੀ ॥
माणस कूड़ा गरबु सची तुधु मणी ॥
Māṇas kūṛā garab sacẖī ṯuḏẖ maṇī.
False is the pride of man. True is Your glorious greatness.
|
ਆਵਾ ਗਉਣੁ ਰਚਾਇ ਉਪਾਈ ਮੇਦਨੀ ॥
आवा गउणु रचाइ उपाई मेदनी ॥
Āvā ga▫oṇ racẖā▫e upā▫ī meḏnī.
Coming and going in reincarnation, the beings and species of the world came into being.
|
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਇਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਗਣੀ ॥
सतिगुरु सेवे आपणा आइआ तिसु गणी ॥
Saṯgur seve āpṇā ā▫i▫ā ṯis gaṇī.
But if the mortal serves his True Guru, his coming into the world is judged to be worthwhile.
|
ਜੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਇ ਤ ਕੇਹੀ ਗਣਤ ਗਣੀ ॥
जे हउमै विचहु जाइ त केही गणत गणी ॥
Je ha▫umai vicẖahu jā▫e ṯa kehī gaṇaṯ gaṇī.
And if he eradicates egotism from within himself, then how can he be judged?

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੋਹਿ ਗੁਬਾਰਿ ਜਿਉ ਭੁਲਾ ਮੰਝਿ ਵਣੀ ॥
मनमुख मोहि गुबारि जिउ भुला मंझि वणी ॥
Manmukẖ mohi gubār ji▫o bẖulā manjẖ vaṇī.
The self-willed manmukh is lost in the darkness of emotional attachment, like the man lost in the wilderness.

ਕਟੇ ਪਾਪ ਅਸੰਖ ਨਾਵੈ ਇਕ ਕਣੀ ॥੧੧॥
कटे पाप असंख नावै इक कणी ॥११॥
Kate pāp asaʼnkẖ nāvai ik kaṇī. ||11||
Countless sins are erased, by even a tiny particle of the Lord's Name. ||11||

ਬਾਬੀਹਾ ਖਸਮੈ ਕਾ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਹੀ ਮਹਲੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਪਾਇ ॥
बाबीहा खसमै का महलु न जाणही महलु देखि अरदासि पाइ ॥
Bābīhā kẖasmai kā mahal na jāṇhī mahal ḏekẖ arḏās pā▫e.
O rainbird, you do not know the Mansion of your Lord and Master's Presence. Offer your prayers to see this Mansion.

ਆਪਣੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਬੋਲਿਆ ਥਾਇ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥
आपणै भाणै बहुता बोलहि बोलिआ थाइ न पाइ ॥
Āpṇai bẖāṇai bahuṯā bolėh boli▫ā thā▫e na pā▫e.
You speak as you please, but your speech is not accepted.

ਖਸਮੁ ਵਡਾ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਇਛੇ ਸੋ ਫਲ ਪਾਇ ॥
खसमु वडा दातारु है जो इछे सो फल पाइ ॥
Kẖasam vadā ḏāṯār hai jo icẖẖe so fal pā▫e.
Your Lord and Master is the Great Giver; whatever you desire, you shall receive from Him.

ਬਾਬੀਹਾ ਕਿਆ ਬਪੁੜਾ ਜਗਤੈ ਕੀ ਤਿਖ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
बाबीहा किआ बपुड़ा जगतै की तिख जाइ ॥१॥
Bābīhā ki▫ā bapuṛā jagṯai kī ṯikẖ jā▫e. ||1||
Not only the thirst of the poor rainbird, but the thirst of the whole world is quenched. ||1||

ਬਾਬੀਹਾ ਭਿੰਨੀ ਰੈਣਿ ਬੋਲਿਆ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਚਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
बाबीहा भिंनी रैणि बोलिआ सहजे सचि सुभाइ ॥
Bābīhā bẖinnī raiṇ boli▫ā sėhje sacẖ subẖā▫e.
The night is wet with dew; the rainbird sings the True Name with intuitive ease.

ਇਹੁ ਜਲੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਜੀਉ ਹੈ ਜਲ ਬਿਨੁ ਰਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
इहु जलु मेरा जीउ है जल बिनु रहणु न जाइ ॥
Ih jal merā jī▫o hai jal bin rahaṇ na jā▫e.
This water is my very soul; without water, I cannot survive.
|
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਜਲੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
गुर सबदी जलु पाईऐ विचहु आपु गवाइ ॥
Gur sabḏī jal pā▫ī▫ai vicẖahu āp gavā▫e.
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, this water is obtained, and egotism is eradicated from within.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਚਸਾ ਨ ਜੀਵਦੀ ਸੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੨॥
नानक जिसु बिनु चसा न जीवदी सो सतिगुरि दीआ मिलाइ ॥२॥
Nānak jis bin cẖasā na jīvḏī so saṯgur ḏī▫ā milā▫e. ||2||
O Nanak, I cannot live without Him, even for a moment; the True Guru has led me to meet Him. ||2||

|
ਖੰਡ ਪਤਾਲ ਅਸੰਖ ਮੈ ਗਣਤ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
खंड पताल असंख मै गणत न होई ॥
Kẖand paṯāl asaʼnkẖ mai gaṇaṯ na ho▫ī.
There are countless worlds and nether regions; I cannot calculate their number.
|
ਤੂ ਕਰਤਾ ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ਤੁਧੁ ਸਿਰਜੀ ਤੁਧੈ ਗੋਈ ॥
तू करता गोविंदु तुधु सिरजी तुधै गोई ॥
Ŧū karṯā govinḏ ṯuḏẖ sirjī ṯuḏẖai go▫ī.
You are the Creator, the Lord of the Universe; You create it, and You destroy it.
|
ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਮੇਦਨੀ ਤੁਝ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਹੋਈ ॥
लख चउरासीह मेदनी तुझ ही ते होई ॥
Lakẖ cẖa▫orāsīh meḏnī ṯujẖ hī ṯe ho▫ī.
The 8.4 million species of beings issued forth from You.
|
ਇਕਿ ਰਾਜੇ ਖਾਨ ਮਲੂਕ ਕਹਹਿ ਕਹਾਵਹਿ ਕੋਈ ॥
इकि राजे खान मलूक कहहि कहावहि कोई ॥
Ik rāje kẖān malūk kahėh kahāvėh ko▫ī.
Some are called kings, emperors and nobles.
|
ਇਕਿ ਸਾਹ ਸਦਾਵਹਿ ਸੰਚਿ ਧਨੁ ਦੂਜੈ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਈ ॥
इकि साह सदावहि संचि धनु दूजै पति खोई ॥
Ik sāh saḏāvėh sancẖ ḏẖan ḏūjai paṯ kẖo▫ī.
Some claim to be bankers and accumulate wealth, but in duality they lose their honor.
|
ਇਕਿ ਦਾਤੇ ਇਕ ਮੰਗਤੇ ਸਭਨਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਸੋਈ ॥
इकि दाते इक मंगते सभना सिरि सोई ॥
Ik ḏāṯe ik mangṯe sabẖnā sir so▫ī.
Some are givers, and some are beggars; God is above the heads of all.
|
ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਬਾਜਾਰੀਆ ਭੀਹਾਵਲਿ ਹੋਈ ॥
विणु नावै बाजारीआ भीहावलि होई ॥
viṇ nāvai bājārī▫ā bẖīhāval ho▫ī.
Without the Name, they are vulgar, dreadful and wretched.
|
ਕੂੜ ਨਿਖੁਟੇ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਸਚੁ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੧੨॥
कूड़ निखुटे नानका सचु करे सु होई ॥१२॥
Kūṛ nikẖute nānkā sacẖ kare so ho▫ī. ||12||
Falsehood shall not last, O Nanak; whatever the True Lord does, comes to pass. ||12||

ਬਾਬੀਹਾ ਗੁਣਵੰਤੀ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਉਗਣਵੰਤੀ ਦੂਰਿ ॥
बाबीहा गुणवंती महलु पाइआ अउगणवंती दूरि ॥
Bābīhā guṇvanṯī mahal pā▫i▫ā a▫ugaṇvanṯī ḏūr.
O rainbird, the virtuous soul-bride attains the Mansion of her Lord's Presence; the unworthy, unvirtuous one is far away.
|
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਹਜੂਰਿ ॥
अंतरि तेरै हरि वसै गुरमुखि सदा हजूरि ॥
Anṯar ṯerai har vasai gurmukẖ saḏā hajūr.
Deep within your inner being, the Lord abides. The Gurmukh beholds Him ever-present.
|
ਕੂਕ ਪੁਕਾਰ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਨਦਰੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥
कूक पुकार न होवई नदरी नदरि निहाल ॥
Kūk pukār na hova▫ī naḏrī naḏar nihāl.
When the Lord bestows His Glance of Grace, the mortal no longer weeps and wails.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਹਜੇ ਮਿਲੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਕੈ ਘਾਲ ॥੧॥
नानक नामि रते सहजे मिले सबदि गुरू कै घाल ॥१॥
Nānak nām raṯe sėhje mile sabaḏ gurū kai gẖāl. ||1||
O Nanak, those who are imbued with the Naam intuitively merge with the Lord; they practice the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||1||
