ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਕਰਣੀ ਊਤਮ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਜਗਿ ਬਿਸਥਾਰਿ ॥੩॥
हरि जन करणी ऊतम है हरि कीरति जगि बिसथारि ॥३॥
Har jan karṇī ūṯam hai har kīraṯ jag bisthār. ||3||
The lifestyle of the Lord's humble servant is exalted and sublime. He spreads the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises throughout the world. ||3||

ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
क्रिपा क्रिपा करि ठाकुर मेरे हरि हरि हरि उर धारि ॥
Kirpā kirpā kar ṯẖākur mere har har har ur ḏẖār.
O my Lord and Master, please be merciful, merciful to me, that I may enshrine the Lord, Har, Har, Har, within my heart.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਨਿ ਜਪਿਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥੪॥੯॥
नानक सतिगुरु पूरा पाइआ मनि जपिआ नामु मुरारि ॥४॥९॥
Nānak saṯgur pūrā pā▫i▫ā man japi▫ā nām murār. ||4||9||
Nanak has found the Perfect True Guru; in his mind, he chants the Name of the Lord. ||4||9||

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਗਿਰਹੀ ਕਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਉਦਾਸੀ ॥
इहु मनु गिरही कि इहु मनु उदासी ॥
Ih man girhī kė ih man uḏāsī.
Is this mind a householder, or is this mind a detached renunciate?
|
ਕਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਅਵਰਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਅਵਿਨਾਸੀ ॥
कि इहु मनु अवरनु सदा अविनासी ॥
Kė ih man avran saḏā avināsī.
Is this mind beyond social class, eternal and unchanging?

ਕਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਚੰਚਲੁ ਕਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ॥
कि इहु मनु चंचलु कि इहु मनु बैरागी ॥
Kė ih man cẖancẖal kė ih man bairāgī.
Is this mind fickle, or is this mind detached?

ਇਸੁ ਮਨ ਕਉ ਮਮਤਾ ਕਿਥਹੁ ਲਾਗੀ ॥੧॥
इसु मन कउ ममता किथहु लागी ॥१॥
Is man ka▫o mamṯā kithhu lāgī. ||1||
How has this mind been gripped by possessiveness? ||1||
|
ਪੰਡਿਤ ਇਸੁ ਮਨ ਕਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
पंडित इसु मन का करहु बीचारु ॥
Pandiṯ is man kā karahu bīcẖār.
O Pandit, O religious scholar, reflect on this in your mind.

ਅਵਰੁ ਕਿ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਪੜਹਿ ਉਠਾਵਹਿ ਭਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
अवरु कि बहुता पड़हि उठावहि भारु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Avar kė bahuṯā paṛėh uṯẖāvėh bẖār. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Why do you read so many other things, and carry such a heavy load? ||1||Pause||
|
ਮਾਇਆ ਮਮਤਾ ਕਰਤੈ ਲਾਈ ॥
माइआ ममता करतै लाई ॥
Mā▫i▫ā mamṯā karṯai lā▫ī.
The Creator has attached it to Maya and possessiveness.
|
ਏਹੁ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਕਰਿ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਈ ॥
एहु हुकमु करि स्रिसटि उपाई ॥
Ėhu hukam kar sarisat upā▫ī.
Enforcing His Order, He created the world.
|
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਬੂਝਹੁ ਭਾਈ ॥
गुर परसादी बूझहु भाई ॥
Gur parsādī būjẖhu bẖā▫ī.
By Guru's Grace, understand this, O Siblings of Destiny.
|
ਸਦਾ ਰਹਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੨॥
सदा रहहु हरि की सरणाई ॥२॥
Saḏā rahhu har kī sarṇā▫ī. ||2||
Remain forever in the Sanctuary of the Lord. ||2||
|
ਸੋ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਜੋ ਤਿਹਾਂ ਗੁਣਾ ਕੀ ਪੰਡ ਉਤਾਰੈ ॥
सो पंडितु जो तिहां गुणा की पंड उतारै ॥
So pandiṯ jo ṯihāʼn guṇā kī pand uṯārai.
He alone is a Pandit, who sheds the load of the three qualities.
|
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ॥
अनदिनु एको नामु वखाणै ॥
An▫ḏin eko nām vakẖāṇai.
Night and day, he chants the Name of the One Lord.
|
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਓਹੁ ਦੀਖਿਆ ਲੇਇ ॥
सतिगुर की ओहु दीखिआ लेइ ॥
Saṯgur kī oh ḏīkẖi▫ā le▫e.
He accepts the Teachings of the True Guru.
|
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਆਗੈ ਸੀਸੁ ਧਰੇਇ ॥
सतिगुर आगै सीसु धरेइ ॥
Saṯgur āgai sīs ḏẖare▫e.
He offers his head to the True Guru.
|
ਸਦਾ ਅਲਗੁ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੁ ॥
सदा अलगु रहै निरबाणु ॥
Saḏā alag rahai nirbāṇ.
He remains forever unattached in the state of Nirvaanaa.
|
ਸੋ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥੩॥
सो पंडितु दरगह परवाणु ॥३॥
So pandiṯ ḏargėh parvāṇ. ||3||
Such a Pandit is accepted in the Court of the Lord. ||3||
|
ਸਭਨਾਂ ਮਹਿ ਏਕੋ ਏਕੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ॥
सभनां महि एको एकु वखाणै ॥
Sabẖnāʼn mėh eko ek vakẖāṇai.
He preaches that the One Lord is within all beings.
|
ਜਾਂ ਏਕੋ ਵੇਖੈ ਤਾਂ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
जां एको वेखै तां एको जाणै ॥
Jāʼn eko vekẖai ṯāʼn eko jāṇai.
As he sees the One Lord, he knows the One Lord.
|
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਬਖਸੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਸੋਇ ॥
जा कउ बखसे मेले सोइ ॥
Jā ka▫o bakẖse mele so▫e.
That person, whom the Lord forgives, is united with Him.
|
ਐਥੈ ਓਥੈ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥
ऐथै ओथै सदा सुखु होइ ॥४॥
Aithai othai saḏā sukẖ ho▫e. ||4||
He finds eternal peace, here and hereafter. ||4||
|
ਕਹਤ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਵਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਕਰੇ ਕਿਆ ਕੋਇ ॥
कहत नानकु कवन बिधि करे किआ कोइ ॥
Kahaṯ Nānak kavan biḏẖ kare ki▫ā ko▫e.
Says Nanak, what can anyone do?

ਸੋਈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
सोई मुकति जा कउ किरपा होइ ॥
So▫ī mukaṯ jā ka▫o kirpā ho▫e.
He alone is liberated, whom the Lord blesses with His Grace.
|
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥
अनदिनु हरि गुण गावै सोइ ॥
An▫ḏin har guṇ gāvai so▫e.
Night and day, he sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
|
ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਬੇਦ ਕੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਕੂਕ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੫॥੧॥੧੦॥
सासत्र बेद की फिरि कूक न होइ ॥५॥१॥१०॥
Sāsṯar beḏ kī fir kūk na ho▫e. ||5||1||10||
Then, he no longer bothers with the proclamations of the Shaastras or the Vedas. ||5||1||10||

Malaar, Third Mehl:

ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭਰਮਾਈ ॥
भ्रमि भ्रमि जोनि मनमुख भरमाई ॥
Bẖaram bẖaram jon manmukẖ bẖarmā▫ī.
The self-willed manmukhs wander lost in reincarnation, confused and deluded by doubt.
|
ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਮਾਰੇ ਨਿਤ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥
जमकालु मारे नित पति गवाई ॥
Jamkāl māre niṯ paṯ gavā▫ī.
The Messenger of Death constantly beats them and disgraces them.
|
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਕਾਣਿ ਚੁਕਾਈ ॥
सतिगुर सेवा जम की काणि चुकाई ॥
Saṯgur sevā jam kī kāṇ cẖukā▫ī.
Serving the True Guru, the mortal's subservience to Death is ended.

ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਮਹਲੁ ਘਰੁ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥
हरि प्रभु मिलिआ महलु घरु पाई ॥१॥
Har parabẖ mili▫ā mahal gẖar pā▫ī. ||1||
He meets the Lord God, and enters the Mansion of His Presence. ||1||
|
ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥
प्राणी गुरमुखि नामु धिआइ ॥
Parāṇī gurmukẖ nām ḏẖi▫ā▫e.
O mortal, as Gurmukh, meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਖੋਇਆ ਕਉਡੀ ਬਦਲੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
जनमु पदारथु दुबिधा खोइआ कउडी बदलै जाइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Janam paḏārath ḏubiḏẖā kẖo▫i▫ā ka▫udī baḏlai jā▫e. ||1|| rahā▫o.
In duality, you are ruining and wasting this priceless human life. You trade it away in exchange for a shell. ||1||Pause||
|
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਲਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
करि किरपा गुरमुखि लगै पिआरु ॥
Kar kirpā gurmukẖ lagai pi▫ār.
The Gurmukh falls in love with the Lord, by His Grace.
|
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੁ ॥
अंतरि भगति हरि हरि उरि धारु ॥
Anṯar bẖagaṯ har har ur ḏẖār.
He enshrines loving devotion to the Lord, Har, Har, deep within his heart.
|
ਭਵਜਲੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਲੰਘਾਵਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
भवजलु सबदि लंघावणहारु ॥
Bẖavjal sabaḏ langẖāvaṇhār.
The Word of the Shabad carries him across the terrifying world-ocean.
|
ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਦਿਸੈ ਸਚਿਆਰੁ ॥੨॥
दरि साचै दिसै सचिआरु ॥२॥
Ḏar sācẖai ḏisai sacẖiār. ||2||
He appears true in the True Court of the Lord. ||2||
|
ਬਹੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
बहु करम करे सतिगुरु नही पाइआ ॥
Baho karam kare saṯgur nahī pā▫i▫ā.
Performing all sorts of rituals, they do not find the True Guru.
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੂਲੇ ਬਹੁ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
बिनु गुर भरमि भूले बहु माइआ ॥
Bin gur bẖaram bẖūle baho mā▫i▫ā.
Without the Guru, so many wander lost and confused in Maya.
|
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਮਤਾ ਬਹੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਵਧਾਇਆ ॥
हउमै ममता बहु मोहु वधाइआ ॥
Ha▫umai mamṯā baho moh vaḏẖā▫i▫ā.
Egotism, possessiveness and attachment rise up and increase within them.
|
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
दूजै भाइ मनमुखि दुखु पाइआ ॥३॥
Ḏūjai bẖā▫e manmukẖ ḏukẖ pā▫i▫ā. ||3||
In the love of duality, the self-willed manmukhs suffer in pain. ||3||
|
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਅਗਮ ਅਥਾਹਾ ॥
आपे करता अगम अथाहा ॥
Āpe karṯā agam athāhā.
The Creator Himself is Inaccessible and Infinite.
|
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਜਪੀਐ ਸਚੁ ਲਾਹਾ ॥
गुर सबदी जपीऐ सचु लाहा ॥
Gur sabḏī japī▫ai sacẖ lāhā.
Chant the Word of the Guru's Shabad, and earn the true profit.
|
ਹਾਜਰੁ ਹਜੂਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹਾ ॥
हाजरु हजूरि हरि वेपरवाहा ॥
Hājar hajūr har veparvāhā.
The Lord is Independent, Ever-present, here and now.
