ਦੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਦੋਊ ਸਮ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਨੈ ਬੁਰਾ ਭਲਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ
दुख सुख दोऊ सम करि जानै बुरा भला संसार ॥
Ḏukẖ sukẖ ḏo▫ū sam kar jānai burā bẖalā sansār.
He sees pleasure and pain as both the same, along with good and bad in the world.

ਸੁਧਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਪਿਆਰ ॥੨॥
सुधि बुधि सुरति नामि हरि पाईऐ सतसंगति गुर पिआर ॥२॥
Suḏẖ buḏẖ suraṯ nām har pā▫ī▫ai saṯsangaṯ gur pi▫ār. ||2||
Wisdom, understanding and awareness are found in the Name of the Lord. In the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, embrace love for the Guru. ||2||

ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਲਾਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰੁ
अहिनिसि लाहा हरि नामु परापति गुरु दाता देवणहारु ॥
Ahinis lāhā har nām parāpaṯ gur ḏāṯā ḏevaṇhār.
Day and night, profit is obtained through the Lord's Name. The Guru, the Giver, has given this gift.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਿਖ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਪਾਏ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥੩॥
गुरमुखि सिख सोई जनु पाए जिस नो नदरि करे करतारु ॥३॥
Gurmukẖ sikẖ so▫ī jan pā▫e jis no naḏar kare karṯār. ||3||
That Sikh who becomes Gurmukh obtains it. The Creator blesses him with His Glance of Grace. ||3||

ਕਾਇਆ ਮਹਲੁ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਘਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਖੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਅਪਾਰ
काइआ महलु मंदरु घरु हरि का तिसु महि राखी जोति अपार ॥
Kā▫i▫ā mahal manḏar gẖar har kā ṯis mėh rākẖī joṯ apār.
The body is a mansion, a temple, the home of the Lord; He has infused His Infinite Light into it.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਹਲਿ ਬੁਲਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਮੇਲਣਹਾਰ ॥੪॥੫॥
नानक गुरमुखि महलि बुलाईऐ हरि मेले मेलणहार ॥४॥५॥
Nānak gurmukẖ mahal bulā▫ī▫ai har mele melaṇhār. ||4||5||
O Nanak, the Gurmukh is invited to the Mansion of the Lord's Presence; the Lord unites him in His Union. ||4||5||

ਮਲਾਰ ਮਹਲਾ ਘਰੁ
मलार महला १ घरु २
Malār mėhlā 1 gẖar 2
Malaar, First Mehl, Second House:

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ
ੴ सतिगुर प्रसादि ॥
Ik▫oaʼnkār saṯgur parsāḏ.
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਪਵਣੈ ਪਾਣੀ ਜਾਣੈ ਜਾਤਿ
पवणै पाणी जाणै जाति ॥
Pavṇai pāṇī jāṇai jāṯ.
Know that the creation was formed through air and water;

ਕਾਇਆਂ ਅਗਨਿ ਕਰੇ ਨਿਭਰਾਂਤਿ
काइआं अगनि करे निभरांति ॥
Kā▫i▫āʼn agan kare nibẖrāʼnṯ.
have no doubt that the body was made through fire.

ਜੰਮਹਿ ਜੀਅ ਜਾਣੈ ਜੇ ਥਾਉ
जमहि जीअ जाणै जे थाउ ॥
Jamėh jī▫a jāṇai je thā▫o.
And if you know where the soul comes from,

ਸੁਰਤਾ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਨਾਉ ॥੧॥
सुरता पंडितु ता का नाउ ॥१॥
Surṯā pandiṯ ṯā kā nā▫o. ||1||
you shall be known as a wise religious scholar. ||1||

ਗੁਣ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਜਾਣੀਅਹਿ ਮਾਇ
गुण गोबिंद न जाणीअहि माइ ॥
Guṇ gobinḏ na jāṇī▫ahi mā▫e.
Who can know the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe, O mother?

ਅਣਡੀਠਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਹਣੁ ਜਾਇ
अणडीठा किछु कहणु न जाइ ॥
Aṇdīṯẖā kicẖẖ kahaṇ na jā▫e.
Without seeing Him, we cannot say anything about Him.

ਕਿਆ ਕਰਿ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣੀਐ ਮਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
किआ करि आखि वखाणीऐ माइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Ki▫ā kar ākẖ vakẖāṇī▫ai mā▫e. ||1|| rahā▫o.
How can anyone speak and describe Him, O mother? ||1||Pause||

ਊਪਰਿ ਦਰਿ ਅਸਮਾਨਿ ਪਇਆਲਿ
ऊपरि दरि असमानि पइआलि ॥
Ūpar ḏar asmān pa▫i▫āl.
He is high above the sky, and beneath the nether worlds.

ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਕਹੀਐ ਦੇਹੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ
किउ करि कहीऐ देहु वीचारि ॥
Ki▫o kar kahī▫ai ḏeh vīcẖār.
How can I speak of Him? Let me understand.

ਬਿਨੁ ਜਿਹਵਾ ਜੋ ਜਪੈ ਹਿਆਇ
बिनु जिहवा जो जपै हिआइ ॥
Bin jihvā jo japai hi▫ā▫e.
In the heart, without the tongue is chanted,

ਕੋਈ ਜਾਣੈ ਕੈਸਾ ਨਾਉ ॥੨॥
कोई जाणै कैसा नाउ ॥२॥
Ko▫ī jāṇai kaisā nā▫o. ||2||
who knows what sort of Name? ||2||

ਕਥਨੀ ਬਦਨੀ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਭਰਾਂਤਿ
कथनी बदनी रहै निभरांति ॥
Kathnī baḏnī rahai nibẖrāʼnṯ.
Undoubtedly, words fail me.

ਸੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਹੋਵੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਦਾਤਿ
सो बूझै होवै जिसु दाति ॥
So būjẖai hovai jis ḏāṯ.
He alone understands, who is blessed.

ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ
अहिनिसि अंतरि रहै लिव लाइ ॥
Ahinis anṯar rahai liv lā▫e.
Day and night, deep within, he remains lovingly attuned to the Lord.

ਸੋਈ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਜਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੩॥
सोई पुरखु जि सचि समाइ ॥३॥
So▫ī purakẖ jė sacẖ samā▫e. ||3||
He is the true person, who is merged in the True Lord. ||3||

ਜਾਤਿ ਕੁਲੀਨੁ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਜੇ ਹੋਇ
जाति कुलीनु सेवकु जे होइ ॥
Jāṯ kulīn sevak je ho▫e.
If someone of high social standing becomes a selfless servant,

ਤਾ ਕਾ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਹਹੁ ਕੋਇ
ता का कहणा कहहु न कोइ ॥
Ŧā kā kahṇā kahhu na ko▫e.
then his praises cannot even be expressed.

ਵਿਚਿ ਸਨਾਤੀ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਹੋਇ
विचि सनातीं सेवकु होइ ॥
vicẖ sanāṯīʼn sevak ho▫e.
And if someone from a low social class becomes a selfless servant,

ਨਾਨਕ ਪਣ੍ਹੀਆ ਪਹਿਰੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੪॥੧॥੬॥
नानक पण्हीआ पहिरै सोइ ॥४॥१॥६॥
Nānak paṇĥī▫ā pahirai so▫e. ||4||1||6||
O Nanak, he shall wear shoes of honor. ||4||1||6||

ਮਲਾਰ ਮਹਲਾ
मलार महला १ ॥
Malār mėhlā 1.
Malaar, First Mehl:

ਦੁਖੁ ਵੇਛੋੜਾ ਇਕੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਭੂਖ
दुखु वेछोड़ा इकु दुखु भूख ॥
Ḏukẖ vecẖẖoṛā ik ḏukẖ bẖūkẖ.
The pain of separation - this is the hungry pain I feel.

ਇਕੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਸਕਤਵਾਰ ਜਮਦੂਤ
इकु दुखु सकतवार जमदूत ॥
Ik ḏukẖ sakaṯvār jamḏūṯ.
Another pain is the attack of the Messenger of Death.

ਇਕੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਰੋਗੁ ਲਗੈ ਤਨਿ ਧਾਇ
इकु दुखु रोगु लगै तनि धाइ ॥
Ik ḏukẖ rog lagai ṯan ḏẖā▫e.
Another pain is the disease consuming my body.

ਵੈਦ ਭੋਲੇ ਦਾਰੂ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥
वैद न भोले दारू लाइ ॥१॥
vaiḏ na bẖole ḏārū lā▫e. ||1||
O foolish doctor, don't give me medicine. ||1||

ਵੈਦ ਭੋਲੇ ਦਾਰੂ ਲਾਇ
वैद न भोले दारू लाइ ॥
vaiḏ na bẖole ḏārū lā▫e.
O foolish doctor, don't give me medicine.

ਦਰਦੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਰਹੈ ਸਰੀਰ
दरदु होवै दुखु रहै सरीर ॥
Ḏaraḏ hovai ḏukẖ rahai sarīr.
The pain persists, and the body continues to suffer.

ਐਸਾ ਦਾਰੂ ਲਗੈ ਬੀਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
ऐसा दारू लगै न बीर ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Aisā ḏārū lagai na bīr. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Your medicine has no effect on me. ||1||Pause||

ਖਸਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਕੀਏ ਰਸ ਭੋਗ
खसमु विसारि कीए रस भोग ॥
Kẖasam visār kī▫e ras bẖog.
Forgetting his Lord and Master, the mortal enjoys sensual pleasures;

ਤਾਂ ਤਨਿ ਉਠਿ ਖਲੋਏ ਰੋਗ
तां तनि उठि खलोए रोग ॥
Ŧāʼn ṯan uṯẖ kẖalo▫e rog.
then, disease rises up in his body.

ਮਨ ਅੰਧੇ ਕਉ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਇ
मन अंधे कउ मिलै सजाइ ॥
Man anḏẖe ka▫o milai sajā▫e.
The blind mortal receives his punishment.

ਵੈਦ ਭੋਲੇ ਦਾਰੂ ਲਾਇ ॥੨॥
वैद न भोले दारू लाइ ॥२॥
vaiḏ na bẖole ḏārū lā▫e. ||2||
O foolish doctor, don't give me medicine. ||2||

ਚੰਦਨ ਕਾ ਫਲੁ ਚੰਦਨ ਵਾਸੁ
चंदन का फलु चंदन वासु ॥
Cẖanḏan kā fal cẖanḏan vās.
The value of sandalwood lies in its fragrance.

ਮਾਣਸ ਕਾ ਫਲੁ ਘਟ ਮਹਿ ਸਾਸੁ
माणस का फलु घट महि सासु ॥
Māṇas kā fal gẖat mėh sās.
The value of the human lasts only as long as the breath in the body.

ਸਾਸਿ ਗਇਐ ਕਾਇਆ ਢਲਿ ਪਾਇ
सासि गइऐ काइआ ढलि पाइ ॥
Sās ga▫i▫ai kā▫i▫ā dẖal pā▫e.
When the breath is taken away, the body crumbles into dust.

ਤਾ ਕੈ ਪਾਛੈ ਕੋਇ ਖਾਇ ॥੩॥
ता कै पाछै कोइ न खाइ ॥३॥
Ŧā kai pācẖẖai ko▫e na kẖā▫e. ||3||
After that, no one takes any food. ||3||

ਕੰਚਨ ਕਾਇਆ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੰਸੁ
कंचन काइआ निरमल हंसु ॥
Kancẖan kā▫i▫ā nirmal hans.
The mortal's body is golden, and the soul-swan is immaculate and pure,

ਜਿਸੁ ਮਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਅੰਸੁ
जिसु महि नामु निरंजन अंसु ॥
Jis mėh nām niranjan aʼns.
if even a tiny particle of the Immaculate Naam is within.

ਦੂਖ ਰੋਗ ਸਭਿ ਗਇਆ ਗਵਾਇ
दूख रोग सभि गइआ गवाइ ॥
Ḏūkẖ rog sabẖ ga▫i▫ā gavā▫e.
All pain and disease are eradicated.

ਨਾਨਕ ਛੂਟਸਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ॥੪॥੨॥੭॥
नानक छूटसि साचै नाइ ॥४॥२॥७॥
Nānak cẖẖūtas sācẖai nā▫e. ||4||2||7||
O Nanak, the mortal is saved through the True Name. ||4||2||7||

ਮਲਾਰ ਮਹਲਾ
मलार महला १ ॥

Malaar, First Mehl:

ਦੁਖ ਮਹੁਰਾ ਮਾਰਣ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ
दुख महुरा मारण हरि नामु ॥
Ḏukẖ mahurā māraṇ har nām.
Pain is the poison. The Lord's Name is the antidote.

ਸਿਲਾ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਪੀਸਣੁ ਹਥਿ ਦਾਨੁ
सिला संतोख पीसणु हथि दानु ॥
Silā sanṯokẖ pīsaṇ hath ḏān.
Grind it up in the mortar of contentment, with the pestle of charitable giving.
