मः १ ॥
Mėhlā 1.
First Mehl:

ਮਨਹੁ ਜਿ ਅੰਧੇ ਕੂਪ ਕਹਿਆ ਬਿਰਦੁ ਜਾਣਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ
मनहु जि अंधे कूप कहिआ बिरदु न जाणन्ही ॥
Manhu jė anḏẖe kūp kahi▫ā biraḏ na jāṇanĥī.
Those mortals whose minds are like deep dark pits do not understand the purpose of life, even when it is explained to them.

ਮਨਿ ਅੰਧੈ ਊਂਧੈ ਕਵਲਿ ਦਿਸਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਖਰੇ ਕਰੂਪ
मनि अंधै ऊंधै कवलि दिसन्हि खरे करूप ॥
Man anḏẖai ūʼnḏẖai kaval ḏisniĥ kẖare karūp.
Their minds are blind, and their heart-lotuses are upside-down; they look totally ugly.

ਇਕਿ ਕਹਿ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਕਹਿਆ ਬੁਝਹਿ ਤੇ ਨਰ ਸੁਘੜ ਸਰੂਪ
इकि कहि जाणहि कहिआ बुझहि ते नर सुघड़ सरूप ॥
Ik kahi jāṇėh kahi▫ā bujẖėh ṯe nar sugẖaṛ sarūp.
Some know how to speak, and understand what they are told. They are wise and beautiful.

ਇਕਨਾ ਨਾਦ ਬੇਦ ਗੀਅ ਰਸੁ ਰਸ ਕਸ ਜਾਣੰਤਿ
इकना नाद न बेद न गीअ रसु रस कस न जाणंति ॥
Iknā nāḏ na beḏ na gī▫a ras ras kas na jāṇanṯ.
Some do not understand about the Sound-current of the Naad or the Vedas, music, virtue or vice.

ਇਕਨਾ ਸੁਧਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਅਕਲਿ ਸਰ ਅਖਰ ਕਾ ਭੇਉ ਲਹੰਤਿ
इकना सुधि न बुधि न अकलि सर अखर का भेउ न लहंति ॥
Iknā suḏẖ na buḏẖ na akal sar akẖar kā bẖe▫o na lāhanṯ.
Some are not blessed with understanding, intelligence, or sublime intellect; they do not grasp the mystery of God's Word.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸੇ ਨਰ ਅਸਲਿ ਖਰ ਜਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਰਬੁ ਕਰੰਤਿ ॥੨॥
नानक से नर असलि खर जि बिनु गुण गरबु करंति ॥२॥
Nānak se nar asal kẖar jė bin guṇ garab karanṯ. ||2||
O Nanak, they are donkeys; they are very proud of themselves, but they have no virtues at all. ||2||

ਪਉੜੀ
पउड़ी ॥
Pa▫oṛī.
Pauree:

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਭ ਪਵਿਤੁ ਹੈ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਪੈ ਮਾਇਆ
गुरमुखि सभ पवितु है धनु स्मपै माइआ ॥
Gurmukẖ sabẖ paviṯ hai ḏẖan sampai mā▫i▫ā.
To the Gurmukh, everything is sacred: wealth, property, Maya.

ਹਰਿ ਅਰਥਿ ਜੋ ਖਰਚਦੇ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ
हरि अरथि जो खरचदे देंदे सुखु पाइआ ॥
Har arath jo kẖarcẖaḏe ḏeʼnḏe sukẖ pā▫i▫ā.
Those who spend the wealth of the Lord find peace through giving.

ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਦੇ ਤਿਨ ਤੋਟਿ ਆਇਆ
जो हरि नामु धिआइदे तिन तोटि न आइआ ॥
Jo har nām ḏẖi▫ā▫iḏe ṯin ṯot na ā▫i▫ā.
Those who meditate on the Lord's Name shall never be deprived.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨਦਰੀ ਆਵਦਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਸੁਟਿ ਪਾਇਆ
गुरमुखां नदरी आवदा माइआ सुटि पाइआ ॥
Gurmukẖāʼn naḏrī āvḏā mā▫i▫ā sut pā▫i▫ā.
The Gurmukhs come to see the Lord, and leave behind the things of Maya.

ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਹੋਰੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਵਈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੨੨॥
नानक भगतां होरु चिति न आवई हरि नामि समाइआ ॥२२॥
Nānak bẖagṯāʼn hor cẖiṯ na āvī har nām samā▫i▫ā. ||22||
O Nanak, the devotees do not think of anything else; they are absorbed in the Name of the Lord. ||22||

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ
सलोक मः ४ ॥
Salok mėhlā 4.
Shalok, Fourth Mehl:

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ
सतिगुरु सेवनि से वडभागी ॥
Saṯgur sevan se vadbẖāgī.
Those who serve the True Guru are very fortunate.

ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਏਕ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ
सचै सबदि जिन्हा एक लिव लागी ॥
Sacẖai sabaḏ jinĥā ek liv lāgī.
They are lovingly attuned to the True Shabad, the Word of the One God.

ਗਿਰਹ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਮਹਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਧੀ
गिरह कुट्मब महि सहजि समाधी ॥
Girah kutamb mėh sahj samāḏẖī.
In their own household and family, they are in natural Samaadhi.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਸਚੇ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ॥੧॥
नानक नामि रते से सचे बैरागी ॥१॥
Nānak nām raṯe se sacẖe bairāgī. ||1||
O Nanak, those who are attuned to the Naam are truly detached from the world. ||1||

ਮਃ
मः ४ ॥
Mėhlā 4.
Fourth Mehl:

ਗਣਤੈ ਸੇਵ ਹੋਵਈ ਕੀਤਾ ਥਾਇ ਪਾਇ
गणतै सेव न होवई कीता थाइ न पाइ ॥
Gaṇṯai sev na hova▫ī kīṯā thā▫e na pā▫e.
Calculated service is not service at all, and what is done is not approved.

ਸਬਦੈ ਸਾਦੁ ਆਇਓ ਸਚਿ ਲਗੋ ਭਾਉ
सबदै सादु न आइओ सचि न लगो भाउ ॥
Sabḏai sāḏ na ā▫i▫o sacẖ na lago bẖā▫o.
The flavor of the Shabad, the Word of God, is not tasted if the mortal is not in love with the True Lord God.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲਗਈ ਮਨਹਠਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ
सतिगुरु पिआरा न लगई मनहठि आवै जाइ ॥
Saṯgur pi▫ārā na lag▫ī manhaṯẖ āvai jā▫e.
The stubborn-minded person does not even like the True Guru; he comes and goes in reincarnation.

ਜੇ ਇਕ ਵਿਖ ਅਗਾਹਾ ਭਰੇ ਤਾਂ ਦਸ ਵਿਖਾਂ ਪਿਛਾਹਾ ਜਾਇ
जे इक विख अगाहा भरे तां दस विखां पिछाहा जाइ ॥
Je ik vikẖ agāhā bẖare ṯāʼn ḏas vikẖāʼn picẖẖāhā jā▫e.
He takes one step forward, and ten steps back.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਜੇ ਚਲਹਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ
सतिगुर की सेवा चाकरी जे चलहि सतिगुर भाइ ॥
Saṯgur kī sevā cẖākrī je cẖalėh saṯgur bẖā▫e.
The mortal works to serve the True Guru, if he walks in harmony with the True Guru's Will.

ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੋ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਇ
आपु गवाइ सतिगुरू नो मिलै सहजे रहै समाइ ॥
Āp gavā▫e saṯgurū no milai sėhje rahai samā▫e.
He loses his self-conceit, and meets the True Guru; he remains intuitively absorbed in the Lord.

ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਸਚੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੨॥
नानक तिन्हा नामु न वीसरै सचे मेलि मिलाइ ॥२॥
Nānak ṯinĥā nām na vīsrai sacẖe mel milā▫e. ||2||
O Nanak, they never forget the Naam, the Name of the Lord; they are united in Union with the True Lord. ||2||

ਪਉੜੀ
पउड़ी ॥
Pa▫oṛī.
Pauree:

ਖਾਨ ਮਲੂਕ ਕਹਾਇਦੇ ਕੋ ਰਹਣੁ ਪਾਈ
खान मलूक कहाइदे को रहणु न पाई ॥
Kẖān malūk kahā▫iḏe ko rahaṇ na pā▫ī.
They call themselves emperors and rulers, but none of them will be allowed to stay.

ਗੜ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਮੰਦਰ ਗਚ ਗੀਰੀਆ ਕਿਛੁ ਸਾਥਿ ਜਾਈ
गड़्ह मंदर गच गीरीआ किछु साथि न जाई ॥
Gaṛĥ manḏar gacẖ gīrī▫ā kicẖẖ sāth na jā▫ī.
Their sturdy forts and mansions - none of them will go along with them.

ਸੋਇਨ ਸਾਖਤਿ ਪਉਣ ਵੇਗ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ
सोइन साखति पउण वेग ध्रिगु ध्रिगु चतुराई ॥
So▫in sākẖaṯ pa▫uṇ veg ḏẖarig ḏẖarig cẖaṯurā▫ī.
Their gold and horses, fast as the wind, are cursed, and cursed are their clever tricks.

ਛਤੀਹ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪਰਕਾਰ ਕਰਹਿ ਬਹੁ ਮੈਲੁ ਵਧਾਈ
छतीह अम्रित परकार करहि बहु मैलु वधाई ॥
Cẖẖaṯīh amriṯ parkār karahi baho mail vaḏẖā▫ī.
Eating the thirty-six delicacies, they become bloated with pollution.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜੋ ਦੇਵੈ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਜਾਣਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥੨੩॥
नानक जो देवै तिसहि न जाणन्ही मनमुखि दुखु पाई ॥२३॥
Nānak jo ḏevai ṯisėh na jāṇanĥī manmukẖ ḏukẖ pā▫ī. ||23||
O Nanak, the self-willed manmukh does not know the One who gives, and so he suffers in pain. ||23||

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ
सलोक मः ३ ॥
Salok mėhlā 3.
Shalok, Third Mehl:

ਪੜ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਪੜ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਮੋੁਨੀ ਥਕੇ ਦੇਸੰਤਰ ਭਵਿ ਥਕੇ ਭੇਖਧਾਰੀ
पड़्हि पड़्हि पंडित मोनी थके देसंतर भवि थके भेखधारी ॥
Paṛĥ paṛĥ pandiṯ monī thake ḏesanṯar bẖav thake bẖekẖ▫ḏẖārī.
The Pandits, the religious scholars and the silent sages read and recite until they get tired. They wander through foreign lands in their religious robes, until they are exhausted.

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਨਾਉ ਕਦੇ ਪਾਇਨਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਗਾ ਅਤਿ ਭਾਰੀ
दूजै भाइ नाउ कदे न पाइनि दुखु लागा अति भारी ॥
Ḏūjai bẖā▫e nā▫o kaḏe na pā▫in ḏukẖ lāgā aṯ bẖārī.
In love with duality, they never receive the Name. Held in the grasp of pain, they suffer terribly.

ਮੂਰਖ ਅੰਧੇ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੈ ਬਿਉਹਾਰੀ
मूरख अंधे त्रै गुण सेवहि माइआ कै बिउहारी ॥
Mūrakẖ anḏẖe ṯarai guṇ sevėh mā▫i▫ā kai bi▫uhārī.
The blind fools serve the three gunas, the three dispositions; they deal only with Maya.

ਅੰਦਰਿ ਕਪਟੁ ਉਦਰੁ ਭਰਣ ਕੈ ਤਾਈ ਪਾਠ ਪੜਹਿ ਗਾਵਾਰੀ
अंदरि कपटु उदरु भरण कै ताई पाठ पड़हि गावारी ॥
Anḏar kapat uḏar bẖaraṇ kai ṯā▫ī pāṯẖ paṛėh gāvārī.
With deception in their hearts, the fools read sacred texts to fill their bellies.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਸੋ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਜਿਨ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਮਾਰੀ
सतिगुरु सेवे सो सुखु पाए जिन हउमै विचहु मारी ॥
Saṯgur seve so sukẖ pā▫e jin ha▫umai vicẖahu mārī.
One who serves the True Guru finds peace; he eradicates egotism from within.

ਨਾਨਕ ਪੜਣਾ ਗੁਨਣਾ ਇਕੁ ਨਾਉ ਹੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
नानक पड़णा गुनणा इकु नाउ है बूझै को बीचारी ॥१॥
Nānak paṛ▫ṇā gunṇā ik nā▫o hai būjẖai ko bīcẖārī. ||1||
O Nanak, there is One Name to chant and dwell on; how rare are those who reflect on this and understand. ||1||

ਮਃ
मः ३ ॥
Mėhlā 3.
Third Mehl:

ਨਾਂਗੇ ਆਵਣਾ ਨਾਂਗੇ ਜਾਣਾ ਹਰਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਕਿਆ ਕੀਜੈ
नांगे आवणा नांगे जाणा हरि हुकमु पाइआ किआ कीजै ॥
Nāʼnge āvṇā nāʼnge jāṇā har hukam pā▫i▫ā ki▫ā kījai.
Naked we come, and naked we go. This is by the Lord's Command; what else can we do?

ਜਿਸ ਕੀ ਵਸਤੁ ਸੋਈ ਲੈ ਜਾਇਗਾ ਰੋਸੁ ਕਿਸੈ ਸਿਉ ਕੀਜੈ
जिस की वसतु सोई लै जाइगा रोसु किसै सिउ कीजै ॥
Jis kī vasaṯ so▫ī lai jā▫igā ros kisai si▫o kījai.
The object belongs to Him; He shall take it away; with whom should one be angry.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨੇ ਸਹਜੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਜੈ
गुरमुखि होवै सु भाणा मंने सहजे हरि रसु पीजै ॥
Gurmukẖ hovai so bẖāṇā manne sėhje har ras pījai.
One who becomes Gurmukh accepts God's Will; he intuitively drinks in the Lord's sublime essence.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਲਾਹਿਹੁ ਰਸਨਾ ਰਾਮੁ ਰਵੀਜੈ ॥੨॥
नानक सुखदाता सदा सलाहिहु रसना रामु रवीजै ॥२॥
Nānak sukẖ▫ḏāṯa saḏā salāhihu rasnā rām ravījai. ||2||
O Nanak, praise the Giver of peace forever; with your tongue, savor the Lord. ||2||
