गुर परसादी घटि चानणा आन्हेरु गवाइआ ॥
Gur parsādī gẖat cẖānṇā ānĥer gavā▫i▫ā.
By Guru's Grace, the heart is illumined, and darkness is dispelled.
|
|
लोहा पारसि भेटीऐ कंचनु होइ आइआ ॥
Lohā pāras bẖetī▫ai kancẖan ho▫e ā▫i▫ā.
Iron is transformed into gold, when it touches the Philosopher's Stone.
|
|
नानक सतिगुरि मिलिऐ नाउ पाईऐ मिलि नामु धिआइआ ॥
Nānak saṯgur mili▫ai nā▫o pā▫ī▫ai mil nām ḏẖi▫ā▫i▫ā.
O Nanak, meeting with the True Guru, the Name is obtained. Meeting Him, the mortal meditates on the Name.

जिन्ह कै पोतै पुंनु है तिन्ही दरसनु पाइआ ॥१९॥
Jinĥ kai poṯai punn hai ṯinĥī ḏarsan pā▫i▫ā. ||19||
Those who have virtue as their treasure, obtain the Blessed Vision of His Darshan. ||19||

Salok mėhlā 1.
Shalok, First Mehl:
|
|
ध्रिगु तिना का जीविआ जि लिखि लिखि वेचहि नाउ ॥
Ḏẖarig ṯinā kā jīvi▫ā jė likẖ likẖ vecẖėh nā▫o.
Cursed are the lives of those who read and write the Lord's Name to sell it.
|
|
खेती जिन की उजड़ै खलवाड़े किआ थाउ ॥
Kẖeṯī jin kī ujṛai kẖalvāṛe ki▫ā thā▫o.
Their crop is devastated - what harvest will they have?
|
|
सचै सरमै बाहरे अगै लहहि न दादि ॥
Sacẖai sarmai bāhre agai lahėh na ḏāḏ.
Lacking truth and humility, they shall not be appreciated in the world hereafter.
|
|
अकलि एह न आखीऐ अकलि गवाईऐ बादि ॥
Akal eh na ākẖī▫ai akal gavā▫ī▫ai bāḏ.
Wisdom which leads to arguments is not called wisdom.
|
|
अकली साहिबु सेवीऐ अकली पाईऐ मानु ॥
Aklī sāhib sevī▫ai aklī pā▫ī▫ai mān.
Wisdom leads us to serve our Lord and Master; through wisdom, honor is obtained.
|
|
अकली पड़्हि कै बुझीऐ अकली कीचै दानु ॥
Aklī paṛĥ kai bujẖī▫ai aklī kīcẖai ḏān.
Wisdom does not come by reading textbooks; wisdom inspires us to give in charity.
|
|
नानकु आखै राहु एहु होरि गलां सैतानु ॥१॥
Nānak ākẖai rāhu ehu hor galāʼn saiṯān. ||1||
Says Nanak, this is the Path; other things lead to Satan. ||1||
|
|
मः २ ॥
Mėhlā 2.
Second Mehl:
|
|
जैसा करै कहावै तैसा ऐसी बनी जरूरति ॥
Jaisā karai kahāvai ṯaisā aisī banī jarūraṯ.
Mortals are known by their actions; this is the way it has to be.
|
|
होवहि लिंङ झिंङ नह होवहि ऐसी कहीऐ सूरति ॥
Hovėh liń jẖiń nah hovėh aisī kahī▫ai sūraṯ.
They should show goodness, and not be deformed by their actions; this is how they are called beautiful.
|
|
जो ओसु इछे सो फलु पाए तां नानक कहीऐ मूरति ॥२॥
Jo os icẖẖe so fal pā▫e ṯāʼn Nānak kahī▫ai mūraṯ. ||2||
Whatever they desire, they shall receive; O Nanak, they become the very image of God. ||2||

|
सतिगुरु अम्रित बिरखु है अम्रित रसि फलिआ ॥
Saṯgur amriṯ birakẖ hai amriṯ ras fali▫ā.
The True Guru is the tree of ambrosia. it bears the fruit of sweet nectar.
|
|
जिसु परापति सो लहै गुर सबदी मिलिआ ॥
Jis parāpaṯ so lahai gur sabḏī mili▫ā.
He alone receives it, who is so pre-destined, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
|
|
सतिगुर कै भाणै जो चलै हरि सेती रलिआ ॥
Saṯgur kai bẖāṇai jo cẖalai har seṯī rali▫ā.
One who walks in harmony with the Will of the True Guru, is blended with the Lord.
|
|
जमकालु जोहि न सकई घटि चानणु बलिआ ॥
Jamkāl johi na sak▫ī gẖat cẖānaṇ bali▫ā.
The Messenger of Death cannot even see him; his heart is illumined with God's Light.
|
|
नानक बखसि मिलाइअनु फिरि गरभि न गलिआ ॥२०॥
Nānak bakẖas milā▫i▫an fir garabẖ na gali▫ā. ||20||
O Nanak, God forgives him, and blends him with Himself; he does not rot away in the womb of reincarnation ever again. ||20||

सलोक मः १ ॥
Salok mėhlā 1.
Shalok, First Mehl:
|
|
सचु वरतु संतोखु तीरथु गिआनु धिआनु इसनानु ॥
Sacẖ varaṯ sanṯokẖ ṯirath gi▫ān ḏẖi▫ān isnān.
Those who have truth as their fast, contentment as their sacred shrine of pilgrimage, spiritual wisdom and meditation as their cleansing bath,
|
|
दइआ देवता खिमा जपमाली ते माणस परधान ॥
Ḏa▫i▫ā ḏevṯā kẖimā japmālī ṯe māṇas parḏẖān.
kindness as their deity, and forgiveness as their chanting beads - they are the most excellent people.
|
|
जुगति धोती सुरति चउका तिलकु करणी होइ ॥
Jugaṯ ḏẖoṯī suraṯ cẖa▫ukā ṯilak karṇī ho▫e.
Those who take the Way as their loincloth, and intuitive awareness their ritualistically purified enclosure, with good deeds their ceremonial forehead mark,
|
|
भाउ भोजनु नानका विरला त कोई कोइ ॥१॥
Bẖā▫o bẖojan nānkā virlā ṯa ko▫ī ko▫e. ||1||
and love their food - O Nanak, they are very rare. ||1||
|
|
महला ३ ॥
Mėhlā 3.
Third Mehl:
|
|
नउमी नेमु सचु जे करै ॥
Na▫umī nem sacẖ je karai.
On the ninth day of the month, make a vow to speak the Truth,
|
|
काम क्रोधु त्रिसना उचरै ॥
Kām kroḏẖ ṯarisnā ucẖrai.
and your sexual desire, anger and desire shall be eaten up.
|
|
दसमी दसे दुआर जे ठाकै एकादसी एकु करि जाणै ॥
Ḏasmī ḏase ḏu▫ār je ṯẖākai ekāḏasī ek kar jāṇai.
On the tenth day, regulate your ten doors; on the eleventh day, know that the Lord is One.
|
|
दुआदसी पंच वसगति करि राखै तउ नानक मनु मानै ॥
Ḏu▫āḏasī pancẖ vasgaṯ kar rākẖai ṯa▫o Nānak man mānai.
On the twelfth day, the five thieves are subdued, and then, O Nanak, the mind is pleased and appeased.

|
ऐसा वरतु रहीजै पाडे होर बहुतु सिख किआ दीजै ॥२॥
Aisā varaṯ rahījai pāde hor bahuṯ sikẖ ki▫ā ḏījai. ||2||
Observe such a fast as this, O Pandit, O religious scholar; of what use are all the other teachings? ||2||

|
भूपति राजे रंग राइ संचहि बिखु माइआ ॥
Bẖūpaṯ rāje rang rā▫e saʼncẖėh bikẖ mā▫i▫ā.
Kings, rulers and monarchs enjoy pleasures and gather the poison of Maya.
|
|
करि करि हेतु वधाइदे पर दरबु चुराइआ ॥
Kar kar heṯ vaḏẖā▫iḏe par ḏarab cẖurā▫i▫ā.
In love with it, they collect more and more, stealing the wealth of others.
|
|
पुत्र कलत्र न विसहहि बहु प्रीति लगाइआ ॥
Puṯar kalṯar na vishahi baho parīṯ lagā▫i▫ā.
They do not trust their own children or spouses; they are totally attached to the love of Maya.
|
|
वेखदिआ ही माइआ धुहि गई पछुतहि पछुताइआ ॥
vekẖ▫ḏi▫ā hī mā▫i▫ā ḏẖuhi ga▫ī pacẖẖuṯėh pacẖẖuṯā▫i▫ā.
But even as they look on, Maya cheats them, and they come to regret and repent.

|
जम दरि बधे मारीअहि नानक हरि भाइआ ॥२१॥
Jam ḏar baḏẖe mārī▫ah Nānak har bẖā▫i▫ā. ||21||
Bound and gagged at Death's door, they are beaten and punished; O Nanak, it pleases the Will of the Lord. ||21||

सलोक मः १ ॥

Shalok, First Mehl:
|
|
गिआन विहूणा गावै गीत ॥
Gi▫ān vihūṇā gāvai gīṯ.
The one who lacks spiritual wisdom sings religious songs.
|
|
भुखे मुलां घरे मसीति ॥
Bẖukẖe mulāʼn gẖare masīṯ.
The hungry Mullah turns his home into a mosque.
|
|
मखटू होइ कै कंन पड़ाए ॥
Makẖtū ho▫e kai kann paṛā▫e.
The lazy unemployed has his ears pierced to look like a Yogi.
|
|
फकरु करे होरु जाति गवाए ॥
Fakar kare hor jāṯ gavā▫e.
Someone else becomes a pan-handler, and loses his social status.
|
|
गुरु पीरु सदाए मंगण जाइ ॥
Gur pīr saḏā▫e mangaṇ jā▫e.
One who calls himself a guru or a spiritual teacher, while he goes around begging
|
|
ता कै मूलि न लगीऐ पाइ ॥
Ŧā kai mūl na lagī▫ai pā▫e.
- don't ever touch his feet.
|
|
घालि खाइ किछु हथहु देइ ॥
Gẖāl kẖā▫e kicẖẖ hathahu ḏe▫e.
One who works for what he eats, and gives some of what he has
|
|
नानक राहु पछाणहि सेइ ॥१॥
Nānak rāhu pacẖẖāṇėh se▫e. ||1||
- O Nanak, he knows the Path. ||1||
