ਬੇਦੁ ਵਪਾਰੀ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਰਾਸਿ ਕਰਮੀ ਪਲੈ ਹੋਇ
बेदु वपारी गिआनु रासि करमी पलै होइ ॥
Beḏ vapārī gi▫ān rās karmī palai ho▫e.
The Vedas are only merchants; spiritual wisdom is the capital; by His Grace, it is received.

ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਸੀ ਬਾਹਰਾ ਲਦਿ ਚਲਿਆ ਕੋਇ ॥੨॥
नानक रासी बाहरा लदि न चलिआ कोइ ॥२॥
Nānak rāsī bāhrā laḏ na cẖali▫ā ko▫e. ||2||
O Nanak, without capital, no one has ever departed with profit. ||2||

ਪਉੜੀ
पउड़ी ॥
Pa▫oṛī.
Pauree:

ਨਿੰਮੁ ਬਿਰਖੁ ਬਹੁ ਸੰਚੀਐ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਇਆ
निमु बिरखु बहु संचीऐ अम्रित रसु पाइआ ॥
Nimm birakẖ baho sancẖī▫ai amriṯ ras pā▫i▫ā.
You can water a bitter neem tree with ambrosial nectar.

ਬਿਸੀਅਰੁ ਮੰਤ੍ਰਿ ਵਿਸਾਹੀਐ ਬਹੁ ਦੂਧੁ ਪੀਆਇਆ
बिसीअरु मंत्रि विसाहीऐ बहु दूधु पीआइआ ॥
Bisī▫ar manṯar visāhī▫ai baho ḏūḏẖ pī▫ā▫i▫ā.
You can feed a venomous snake lots of milk.

ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਅਭਿੰਨੁ ਭਿਜਈ ਪਥਰੁ ਨਾਵਾਇਆ
मनमुखु अभिंनु न भिजई पथरु नावाइआ ॥
Manmukẖ abẖinn na bẖij▫ī pathar navā▫i▫ā.
The self-willed manmukh is resistant; he cannot be softened. You might as well water a stone.

ਬਿਖੁ ਮਹਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਸਿੰਚੀਐ ਬਿਖੁ ਕਾ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ
बिखु महि अम्रितु सिंचीऐ बिखु का फलु पाइआ ॥
Bikẖ mėh amriṯ sincẖī▫ai bikẖ kā fal pā▫i▫ā.
Irrigating a poisonous plant with ambrosial nectar, only poisonous fruit is obtained.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਭ ਬਿਖੁ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਇਆ ॥੧੬॥
नानक संगति मेलि हरि सभ बिखु लहि जाइआ ॥१६॥
Nānak sangaṯ mel har sabẖ bikẖ lėh jā▫i▫ā. ||16||
O Lord, please unite Nanak with the Sangat, the Holy Congregation, so that he may be rid of all poison. ||16||

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ
सलोक मः १ ॥
Salok mėhlā 1.
Shalok, First Mehl:

ਮਰਣਿ ਮੂਰਤੁ ਪੁਛਿਆ ਪੁਛੀ ਥਿਤਿ ਵਾਰੁ
मरणि न मूरतु पुछिआ पुछी थिति न वारु ॥
Maraṇ na mūraṯ pucẖẖi▫ā pucẖẖī thiṯ na vār.
Death does not ask the time; it does not ask the date or the day of the week.

ਇਕਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਲਦਿਆ ਇਕਿ ਲਦਿ ਚਲੇ ਇਕਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਬਧੇ ਭਾਰ
इकन्ही लदिआ इकि लदि चले इकन्ही बधे भार ॥
Iknĥī laḏi▫ā ik laḏ cẖale iknĥī baḏẖe bẖār.
Some have packed up, and some who have packed up have gone.

ਇਕਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਹੋਈ ਸਾਖਤੀ ਇਕਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਹੋਈ ਸਾਰ
इकन्हा होई साखती इकन्हा होई सार ॥
Iknĥā ho▫ī sākẖ▫ṯī iknĥā ho▫ī sār.
Some are severely punished, and some are taken care of.

ਲਸਕਰ ਸਣੈ ਦਮਾਮਿਆ ਛੁਟੇ ਬੰਕ ਦੁਆਰ
लसकर सणै दमामिआ छुटे बंक दुआर ॥
Laskar saṇai ḏamāmi▫ā cẖẖute bank ḏu▫ār.
They must leave their armies and drums, and their beautiful mansions.

ਨਾਨਕ ਢੇਰੀ ਛਾਰੁ ਕੀ ਭੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਹੋਈ ਛਾਰ ॥੧॥
नानक ढेरी छारु की भी फिरि होई छार ॥१॥
Nānak dẖerī cẖẖār kī bẖī fir ho▫ī cẖẖār. ||1||
O Nanak, the pile of dust is once again reduced to dust. ||1||

ਮਃ
मः १ ॥
Mėhlā 1.
First Mehl:

ਨਾਨਕ ਢੇਰੀ ਢਹਿ ਪਈ ਮਿਟੀ ਸੰਦਾ ਕੋਟੁ
नानक ढेरी ढहि पई मिटी संदा कोटु ॥
Nānak dẖerī dẖėh pa▫ī mitī sanḏā kot.
O Nanak, the pile shall fall apart; the fortress of the body is made of dust.

ਭੀਤਰਿ ਚੋਰੁ ਬਹਾਲਿਆ ਖੋਟੁ ਵੇ ਜੀਆ ਖੋਟੁ ॥੨॥
भीतरि चोरु बहालिआ खोटु वे जीआ खोटु ॥२॥
Bẖīṯar cẖor bahāli▫ā kẖot ve jī▫ā kẖot. ||2||
The thief has settled within you; O soul, your life is false. ||2||

ਪਉੜੀ
पउड़ी ॥
Pa▫oṛī.
Pauree:

ਜਿਨ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਦੁਸਟੁ ਹੈ ਨਕ ਵਢੇ ਨਕ ਵਢਾਇਆ
जिन अंदरि निंदा दुसटु है नक वढे नक वढाइआ ॥
Jin anḏar ninḏā ḏusat hai nak vadẖe nak vaḏẖā▫i▫ā.
Those who are filled with vicious slander, shall have their noses cut, and be shamed.

ਮਹਾ ਕਰੂਪ ਦੁਖੀਏ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਲੇ ਮੁਹ ਮਾਇਆ
महा करूप दुखीए सदा काले मुह माइआ ॥
Mahā karūp ḏukẖī▫e saḏā kāle muh mā▫i▫ā.
They are totally ugly, and always in pain. Their faces are blackened by Maya.

ਭਲਕੇ ਉਠਿ ਨਿਤ ਪਰ ਦਰਬੁ ਹਿਰਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਚੁਰਾਇਆ
भलके उठि नित पर दरबु हिरहि हरि नामु चुराइआ ॥
Bẖalke uṯẖ niṯ par ḏarab hirėh har nām cẖurā▫i▫ā.
They rise early in the morning, to cheat and steal from others; they hide from the Lord's Name.

ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਤ ਕਰਹੁ ਰਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇਆ
हरि जीउ तिन की संगति मत करहु रखि लेहु हरि राइआ ॥
Har jī▫o ṯin kī sangaṯ maṯ karahu rakẖ leho har rā▫i▫ā.
O Dear Lord, let me not even associate with them; save me from them, O my Sovereign Lord King.

ਨਾਨਕ ਪਇਐ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਕਮਾਵਦੇ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧੭॥
नानक पइऐ किरति कमावदे मनमुखि दुखु पाइआ ॥१७॥
Nānak pa▫i▫ai kiraṯ kamāvḏe manmukẖ ḏukẖ pā▫i▫ā. ||17||
O Nanak, the self-willed manmukhs act according to their past deeds, producing nothing but pain. ||17||

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ
सलोक मः ४ ॥
Salok mėhlā 4.
Shalok, Fourth Mehl:

ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ਹੈ ਖਸਮ ਕਾ ਖਸਮਹੁ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਹੋਇ
सभु कोई है खसम का खसमहु सभु को होइ ॥
Sabẖ ko▫ī hai kẖasam kā kẖasmahu sabẖ ko ho▫e.
Everyone belongs to our Lord and Master. Everyone came from Him.

ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਖਸਮ ਕਾ ਤਾ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਕੋਇ
हुकमु पछाणै खसम का ता सचु पावै कोइ ॥
Hukam pacẖẖāṇai kẖasam kā ṯā sacẖ pāvai ko▫e.
Only by realizing the Hukam of His Command, is Truth obtained.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੀਐ ਬੁਰਾ ਦੀਸੈ ਕੋਇ
गुरमुखि आपु पछाणीऐ बुरा न दीसै कोइ ॥
Gurmukẖ āp pacẖẖāṇī▫ai burā na ḏīsai ko▫e.
The Gurmukh realizes his own self; no one appears evil to him.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਸਹਿਲਾ ਆਇਆ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥
नानक गुरमुखि नामु धिआईऐ सहिला आइआ सोइ ॥१॥
Nānak gurmukẖ nām ḏẖi▫ā▫ī▫ai sahilā ā▫i▫ā so▫e. ||1||
O Nanak, the Gurmukh meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. Fruitful is his coming into the world. ||1||

ਮਃ
मः ४ ॥
Mėhlā 4.
Fourth Mehl:

ਸਭਨਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਆਪਿ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਣਹਾਰੁ
सभना दाता आपि है आपे मेलणहारु ॥
Sabẖnā ḏāṯā āp hai āpe melaṇhār.
He Himself is the Giver of all; He unites all with Himself.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਵਿਛੁੜਹਿ ਜਿਨਾ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
नानक सबदि मिले न विछुड़हि जिना सेविआ हरि दातारु ॥२॥
Nānak sabaḏ mile na vicẖẖuṛėh jinā sevi▫ā har ḏāṯār. ||2||
O Nanak, they are united with the Word of the Shabad; serving the Lord, the Great Giver, they shall never be separated from Him again. ||2||

ਪਉੜੀ
पउड़ी ॥
Pa▫oṛī.
Pauree:

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਹੈ ਨਾਉ ਉਗਵਿ ਆਇਆ
गुरमुखि हिरदै सांति है नाउ उगवि आइआ ॥
Gurmukẖ hirḏai sāʼnṯ hai nā▫o ugav ā▫i▫ā.
Peace and tranquility fill the heart of the Gurmukh; the Name wells up within them.

ਜਪ ਤਪ ਤੀਰਥ ਸੰਜਮ ਕਰੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਇਆ
जप तप तीरथ संजम करे मेरे प्रभ भाइआ ॥
Jap ṯap ṯirath sanjam kare mere parabẖ bẖā▫i▫ā.
Chanting and meditation, penance and self-discipline, and bathing at sacred shrines of pilgrimage - the merits of these come by pleasing my God.

ਹਿਰਦਾ ਸੁਧੁ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਦੇ ਸੋਹਹਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ
हिरदा सुधु हरि सेवदे सोहहि गुण गाइआ ॥
Hirḏā suḏẖ har sevḏe sohėh guṇ gā▫i▫ā.
So serve the Lord with a pure heart; singing His Glorious Praises, you shall be embellished and exalted.

ਮੇਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਏਵੈ ਭਾਵਦਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤਰਾਇਆ
मेरे हरि जीउ एवै भावदा गुरमुखि तराइआ ॥
Mere har jī▫o evai bẖāvḏā gurmukẖ ṯarā▫i▫ā.
My Dear Lord is pleased by this; he carries the Gurmukh across.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੇਲਿਅਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਿ ਸੋਹਾਇਆ ॥੧੮॥
नानक गुरमुखि मेलिअनु हरि दरि सोहाइआ ॥१८॥
Nānak gurmukẖ meli▫an har ḏar sohā▫i▫ā. ||18||
O Nanak, the Gurmukh is merged with the Lord; he is embellished in His Court. ||18||

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ
सलोक मः १ ॥
Salok mėhlā 1.
Shalok, First Mehl:

ਧਨਵੰਤਾ ਇਵ ਹੀ ਕਹੈ ਅਵਰੀ ਧਨ ਕਉ ਜਾਉ
धनवंता इव ही कहै अवरी धन कउ जाउ ॥
Ḏẖanvanṯā iv hī kahai avrī ḏẖan ka▫o jā▫o.
Thus speaks the wealthy man: I should go and get more wealth.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਨਿਰਧਨੁ ਤਿਤੁ ਦਿਨਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਦਿਨਿ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਨਾਉ ॥੧॥
नानकु निरधनु तितु दिनि जितु दिनि विसरै नाउ ॥१॥
Nānak nirḏẖan ṯiṯ ḏin jiṯ ḏin visrai nā▫o. ||1||
Nanak becomes poor on that day when he forgets the Lord's Name. ||1||

ਮਃ
मः १ ॥
Mėhlā 1.
First Mehl:

ਸੂਰਜੁ ਚੜੈ ਵਿਜੋਗਿ ਸਭਸੈ ਘਟੈ ਆਰਜਾ
सूरजु चड़ै विजोगि सभसै घटै आरजा ॥
Sūraj cẖaṛai vijog sabẖsai gẖatai ārjā.
The sun rises and sets, and the lives of all run out.

ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਰਤਾ ਭੋਗਿ ਕੋਈ ਹਾਰੈ ਕੋ ਜਿਣੈ
तनु मनु रता भोगि कोई हारै को जिणै ॥
Ŧan man raṯā bẖog ko▫ī hārai ko jiṇai.
The mind and body experience pleasures; one loses, and another wins.

ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਭਰਿਆ ਫੂਕਿ ਆਖਣਿ ਕਹਣਿ ਥੰਮ੍ਹ੍ਹੀਐ
सभु को भरिआ फूकि आखणि कहणि न थम्हीऐ ॥
Sabẖ ko bẖari▫ā fūk ākẖaṇ kahaṇ na thamĥ▫ī▫ai.
Everyone is puffed up with pride; even after they are spoken to, they do not stop.

ਨਾਨਕ ਵੇਖੈ ਆਪਿ ਫੂਕ ਕਢਾਏ ਢਹਿ ਪਵੈ ॥੨॥
नानक वेखै आपि फूक कढाए ढहि पवै ॥२॥
Nānak vekẖai āp fūk kadẖā▫e dẖėh pavai. ||2||
O Nanak, the Lord Himself sees all; when He takes the air out of the balloon, the body falls. ||2||

ਪਉੜੀ
पउड़ी ॥

Pauree:

ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਥਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ
सतसंगति नामु निधानु है जिथहु हरि पाइआ ॥
Saṯsangaṯ nām niḏẖān hai jithahu har pā▫i▫ā.
The treasure of the Name is in the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation. There, the Lord is found.
