Slok 2nd Guru.

ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਏ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਆਪੇ ਰਖੈ ਵੇਕ ॥
आपि उपाए नानका आपे रखै वेक ॥
Āp upā▫e nānkā āpe rakẖai vek.
God Himself creates and Himself keeps the creatures in different places.
|
ਮੰਦਾ ਕਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਖੀਐ ਜਾਂ ਸਭਨਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਏਕੁ ॥
मंदा किस नो आखीऐ जां सभना साहिबु एकु ॥
Manḏā kis no ākẖī▫ai jāʼn sabẖnā sāhib ek.
Who should we call bed, when all have one and the same Lord?
|
ਸਭਨਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਵੇਖੈ ਧੰਧੈ ਲਾਇ ॥
सभना साहिबु एकु है वेखै धंधै लाइ ॥
Sabẖnā sāhib ek hai vekẖai ḏẖanḏẖai lā▫e.
The Lord of all is One and the same, He jokes each to his task and watches over him.

ਕਿਸੈ ਥੋੜਾ ਕਿਸੈ ਅਗਲਾ ਖਾਲੀ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
किसै थोड़ा किसै अगला खाली कोई नाहि ॥
Kisai thoṛā kisai aglā kẖālī ko▫ī nāhi.
Some the Lord blesses with more and some with less, but no one departs unrewarded.

ਆਵਹਿ ਨੰਗੇ ਜਾਹਿ ਨੰਗੇ ਵਿਚੇ ਕਰਹਿ ਵਿਥਾਰ ॥
आवहि नंगे जाहि नंगे विचे करहि विथार ॥
Āvahi nange jāhi nange vicẖe karahi vithār.
The mortals come naked, they depart naked and in-between they make ostentations.

ਨਾਨਕ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਅਗੈ ਕਾਈ ਕਾਰ ॥੧॥
नानक हुकमु न जाणीऐ अगै काई कार ॥१॥
Nānak hukam na jāṇī▫ai agai kā▫ī kār. ||1||
Nanak, man knows not the Lord's will nor what, work, the Lord shall make him do hereafter.

ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥
महला १ ॥
Mėhlā 1.
1st Guru.
|
ਜਿਨਸਿ ਥਾਪਿ ਜੀਆਂ ਕਉ ਭੇਜੈ ਜਿਨਸਿ ਥਾਪਿ ਲੈ ਜਾਵੈ ॥
जिनसि थापि जीआं कउ भेजै जिनसि थापि लै जावै ॥
Jinas thāp jī▫āʼn ka▫o bẖejai jinas thāp lai jāvai.
Creating the miscellaneous beings, the Lord sends them and the so miscellaneously created beings, He ultimately takes away.

ਆਪੇ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪੈ ਆਪੇ ਏਤੇ ਵੇਸ ਕਰਾਵੈ ॥
आपे थापि उथापै आपे एते वेस करावै ॥
Āpe thāp uthāpai āpe eṯe ves karāvai.
He Himself establishes and Himself disestablishes and makes men assume various forms.
|
ਜੇਤੇ ਜੀਅ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਅਉਧੂਤੀ ਆਪੇ ਭਿਖਿਆ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
जेते जीअ फिरहि अउधूती आपे भिखिआ पावै ॥
Jeṯe jī▫a firėh a▫uḏẖūṯī āpe bẖikẖi▫ā pāvai.
As many beings as walk about as beggars, to so many, He Himself blesses with His alms.

ਲੇਖੈ ਬੋਲਣੁ ਲੇਖੈ ਚਲਣੁ ਕਾਇਤੁ ਕੀਚਹਿ ਦਾਵੇ ॥
लेखै बोलणु लेखै चलणु काइतु कीचहि दावे ॥
Lekẖai bolaṇ lekẖai cẖalaṇ kā▫iṯ kīcẖėh ḏāve.
In account man utters and in account he walks. Then what for does he make excessive pretensions?

ਮੂਲੁ ਮਤਿ ਪਰਵਾਣਾ ਏਹੋ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥
मूलु मति परवाणा एहो नानकु आखि सुणाए ॥
Mūl maṯ parvāṇā eho Nānak ākẖ suṇā▫e.
This alone is the real wisdom, which the Lord approves and this is what Nanak proclaims and preaches.
|
ਕਰਣੀ ਉਪਰਿ ਹੋਇ ਤਪਾਵਸੁ ਜੇ ਕੋ ਕਹੈ ਕਹਾਏ ॥੨॥
करणी उपरि होइ तपावसु जे को कहै कहाए ॥२॥
Karṇī upar ho▫e ṯapāvas je ko kahai kahā▫e. ||2||
Only on one's deeds, justice is administered. If some body says and utters aught else; that is all a prattle.

Pauri.
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਚਲਤੁ ਰਚਾਇਓਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਪਰਗਟੀ ਆਇਆ ॥
गुरमुखि चलतु रचाइओनु गुण परगटी आइआ ॥
Gurmukẖ cẖalaṯ racẖā▫i▫on guṇ pargatī ā▫i▫ā.
The great God has created the world play and through virtues, He becomes manifest.
|
ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਸਦ ਉਚਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥
गुरबाणी सद उचरै हरि मंनि वसाइआ ॥
Gurbāṇī saḏ ucẖrai har man vasā▫i▫ā.
Whosoever for ever utters Guru's word; he enshrines the Lord in his mind.
|
ਸਕਤਿ ਗਈ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਕਟਿਆ ਸਿਵ ਜੋਤਿ ਜਗਾਇਆ ॥
सकति गई भ्रमु कटिआ सिव जोति जगाइआ ॥
Sakaṯ ga▫ī bẖaram kati▫ā siv joṯ jagā▫i▫ā.
He is rid of mammon, his doubt is dispelled and the Lord's Light shines within him.

ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਪੋਤੈ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥
जिन कै पोतै पुंनु है गुरु पुरखु मिलाइआ ॥
Jin kai poṯai punn hai gur purakẖ milā▫i▫ā.
They, in whose treasure virtue is, meet with the Omnipotent Guru.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
नानक सहजे मिलि रहे हरि नामि समाइआ ॥२॥
Nānak sėhje mil rahe har nām samā▫i▫ā. ||2||
Nanak, they merge in the Lord's Name and easily remain blended with it.

ਸਾਹ ਚਲੇ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਦੇਵੈ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
साह चले वणजारिआ लिखिआ देवै नालि ॥
Sāh cẖale vaṇjāri▫ā likẖi▫ā ḏevai nāl.
The traders come from God, the Merchant. He sends their destiny with them.

ਲਿਖੇ ਉਪਰਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਹੋਇ ਲਈਐ ਵਸਤੁ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਲਿ ॥
लिखे उपरि हुकमु होइ लईऐ वसतु सम्हालि ॥
Likẖe upar hukam ho▫e la▫ī▫ai vasaṯ samĥāl.
On the basis of the writ, the order is issued and each one takes care of the goods, he is endowed with.

ਵਸਤੁ ਲਈ ਵਣਜਾਰਈ ਵਖਰੁ ਬਧਾ ਪਾਇ ॥
वसतु लई वणजारई वखरु बधा पाइ ॥
vasaṯ la▫ī vaṇjāra▫ī vakẖar baḏẖā pā▫e.
The traders have purchased their merchandise and have packed up their cargo.
|
ਕੇਈ ਲਾਹਾ ਲੈ ਚਲੇ ਇਕਿ ਚਲੇ ਮੂਲੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
केई लाहा लै चले इकि चले मूलु गवाइ ॥
Ke▫ī lāhā lai cẖale ik cẖale mūl gavā▫e.
Some depart after earning profit and some go losing even their capital.
|
ਥੋੜਾ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਮੰਗਿਓ ਕਿਸੁ ਕਹੀਐ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ॥
थोड़ा किनै न मंगिओ किसु कहीऐ साबासि ॥
Thoṛā kinai na mangi▫o kis kahī▫ai sābās.
No one asks for less. Whom should we acclaim then?
|
ਨਦਰਿ ਤਿਨਾ ਕਉ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜਿ ਸਾਬਤੁ ਲਾਏ ਰਾਸਿ ॥੧॥
नदरि तिना कउ नानका जि साबतु लाए रासि ॥१॥
Naḏar ṯinā ka▫o nānkā jė sābaṯ lā▫e rās. ||1||
Nanak, the Lord looks with favour on those, who have kept their stock-in-trade intact.
|

|
ਜੁੜਿ ਜੁੜਿ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਵਿਛੁੜਿ ਜੁੜੇ ॥
जुड़ि जुड़ि विछुड़े विछुड़ि जुड़े ॥
Juṛ juṛ vicẖẖuṛe vicẖẖuṛ juṛe.
Uniting together, the soul and body separate and having separated they unite again.
|
ਜੀਵਿ ਜੀਵਿ ਮੁਏ ਮੁਏ ਜੀਵੇ ॥
जीवि जीवि मुए मुए जीवे ॥
Jīv jīv mu▫e mu▫e jīve.
Mortal lives, lives to die and he dies to be born again,
|
ਕੇਤਿਆ ਕੇ ਬਾਪ ਕੇਤਿਆ ਕੇ ਬੇਟੇ ਕੇਤੇ ਗੁਰ ਚੇਲੇ ਹੂਏ ॥
केतिआ के बाप केतिआ के बेटे केते गुर चेले हूए ॥
Keṯi▫ā ke bāp keṯi▫ā ke bete keṯe gur cẖele hū▫e.
He becomes the father of many, the son of many and the Guru and the disciple of many.
|
ਆਗੈ ਪਾਛੈ ਗਣਤ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਕਿਆ ਜਾਤੀ ਕਿਆ ਹੁਣਿ ਹੂਏ ॥
आगै पाछै गणत न आवै किआ जाती किआ हुणि हूए ॥
Āgai pācẖẖai gaṇaṯ na āvai ki▫ā jāṯī ki▫ā huṇ hū▫e.
One can make not the count of the future and the past. What know I what I was in the past and what I shall be in the past and what I shall be in future?

ਸਭੁ ਕਰਣਾ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਕਰਿ ਲਿਖੀਐ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਕਰੇ ॥
सभु करणा किरतु करि लिखीऐ करि करि करता करे करे ॥
Sabẖ karṇā kiraṯ kar likī▫ai kar kar karṯā kare kare.
All the doings and deeds that one does, are recorded. This is what the Creator has been doing and shall continue to do.

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਮਰੀਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤਰੀਐ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ॥੨॥
मनमुखि मरीऐ गुरमुखि तरीऐ नानक नदरी नदरि करे ॥२॥
Manmukẖ marī▫ai gurmukẖ ṯarī▫ai Nānak naḏrī naḏar kare. ||2||
The mind-ward dies and the Guru-ward is saved and on him is the mercy of the Merciful Master, O Nanak.

ਪਉੜੀ ॥
पउड़ी ॥
Pa▫oṛī.
Pauri.
|
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਰਮੁ ਹੈ ਦੂਜੈ ਲੋਭਾਇਆ ॥
मनमुखि दूजा भरमु है दूजै लोभाइआ ॥
Manmukẖ ḏūjā bẖaram hai ḏūjai lobẖā▫i▫ā.
The egocentric wanders in duality and doubt and is bewitched by another's love.
|
ਕੂੜੁ ਕਪਟੁ ਕਮਾਵਦੇ ਕੂੜੋ ਆਲਾਇਆ ॥
कूड़ु कपटु कमावदे कूड़ो आलाइआ ॥
Kūṛ kapat kamāvḏe kūṛo ālā▫i▫ā.
He practises falsehood and deception and utters falsehood.
|
ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕਲਤ੍ਰੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਹੇਤੁ ਹੈ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥
पुत्र कलत्रु मोहु हेतु है सभु दुखु सबाइआ ॥
Puṯar kalaṯar moh heṯ hai sabẖ ḏukẖ sabā▫i▫ā.
The love and affection of sons and wife is misery all in all.
|
ਜਮ ਦਰਿ ਬਧੇ ਮਾਰੀਅਹਿ ਭਰਮਹਿ ਭਰਮਾਇਆ ॥
जम दरि बधे मारीअहि भरमहि भरमाइआ ॥
Jam ḏar baḏẖe mārī▫ah bẖarmėh bẖarmā▫i▫ā.
Bound at the door of the death's courier, he is punished and rambles and roams in existences.

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
मनमुखि जनमु गवाइआ नानक हरि भाइआ ॥३॥
Manmukẖ janam gavā▫i▫ā Nānak har bẖā▫i▫ā. ||3||
The egocentric loses his human life, while Nanak loves his God.

ਜਿਨ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਤੇ ਰਤੇ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
जिन वडिआई तेरे नाम की ते रते मन माहि ॥
Jin vadi▫ā▫ī ṯere nām kī ṯe raṯe man māhi.
They who are blessed with the glory of Thy Name, O Lord; they remain imbued with bliss in their mind.

ਨਾਨਕ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
नानक अम्रितु एकु है दूजा अम्रितु नाहि ॥
Nānak amriṯ ek hai ḏūjā amriṯ nāhi.
Nanak, there is but one Name-Nectar. Any other Nectar there is not.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਮਨੈ ਮਾਹਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
नानक अम्रितु मनै माहि पाईऐ गुर परसादि ॥
Nānak amriṯ manai māhi pā▫ī▫ai gur parsāḏ.
Nanak, the elixir of the Name is within the mind and is obtained by the Guru's grace.

ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਪੀਤਾ ਰੰਗ ਸਿਉ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕਉ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਆਦਿ ॥੧॥
तिन्ही पीता रंग सिउ जिन्ह कउ लिखिआ आदि ॥१॥
Ŧinĥī pīṯā rang si▫o jinĥ ka▫o likẖi▫ā āḏ. ||1||
They alone quaff it with love, who are so destined by the Primal Lord.
