ਚਰਣੀ ਚਲਉ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕੈ ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ॥੨॥
चरणी चलउ मारगि ठाकुर कै रसना हरि गुण गाए ॥२॥
Cẖarṇī cẖala▫o mārag ṯẖākur kai rasnā har guṇ gā▫e. ||2||
With my feet, I walk on my Lord and Mater's Path. With my tongue, I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||2||

ਦੇਖਿਓ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਰਬ ਮੰਗਲ ਰੂਪ ਉਲਟੀ ਸੰਤ ਕਰਾਏ ॥
देखिओ द्रिसटि सरब मंगल रूप उलटी संत कराए ॥
Ḏekẖi▫o ḏarisat sarab mangal rūp ultī sanṯ karā▫e.
With my eyes, I see the Lord, the Embodiment of Absolute Bliss; the Saint has turned away from the world.

ਪਾਇਓ ਲਾਲੁ ਅਮੋਲੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਛੋਡਿ ਨ ਕਤਹੂ ਜਾਏ ॥੩॥
पाइओ लालु अमोलु नामु हरि छोडि न कतहू जाए ॥३॥
Pā▫i▫o lāl amol nām har cẖẖod na kaṯhū jā▫e. ||3||
I have found the Priceless Name of the Beloved Lord; it never leaves me or goes anywhere else. ||3||

ਕਵਨ ਉਪਮਾ ਕਉਨ ਬਡਾਈ ਕਿਆ ਗੁਨ ਕਹਉ ਰੀਝਾਏ ॥
कवन उपमा कउन बडाई किआ गुन कहउ रीझाए ॥
Kavan upmā ka▫un badā▫ī ki▫ā gun kaha▫o rījẖā▫e.
What praise, what glory and what virtues should I utter, in order to please the Lord?

ਹੋਤ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਦਸਾਏ ॥੪॥੮॥
होत क्रिपाल दीन दइआ प्रभ जन नानक दास दसाए ॥४॥८॥
Hoṯ kirpāl ḏīn ḏa▫i▫ā parabẖ jan Nānak ḏās ḏasā▫e. ||4||8||
That humble being, unto whom the Merciful Lord is kind - O servant Nanak, he is the slave of God's slaves. ||4||8||

Saarang, Fifth Mehl:

ਓੁਇ ਸੁਖ ਕਾ ਸਿਉ ਬਰਨਿ ਸੁਨਾਵਤ ॥
ओइ सुख का सिउ बरनि सुनावत ॥
O▫e sukẖ kā si▫o baran sunāvaṯ.
Who can I tell, and with whom can I speak, about this state of peace and bliss?

ਅਨਦ ਬਿਨੋਦ ਪੇਖਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਰਸਨ ਮਨਿ ਮੰਗਲ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵਤ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
अनद बिनोद पेखि प्रभ दरसन मनि मंगल गुन गावत ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Anaḏ binoḏ pekẖ parabẖ ḏarsan man mangal gun gāvaṯ. ||1|| rahā▫o.
I am in ecstasy and delight, gazing upon the Blessed Vision of God's Darshan. My mind sings His Songs of Joy and His Glories. ||1||Pause||

ਬਿਸਮ ਭਈ ਪੇਖਿ ਬਿਸਮਾਦੀ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਕਿਰਪਾਵਤ ॥
बिसम भई पेखि बिसमादी पूरि रहे किरपावत ॥
Bisam bẖa▫ī pekẖ bismāḏī pūr rahe kirpāvaṯ.
I am wonderstruck, gazing upon the Wondrous Lord. The Merciful Lord is All-pervading everywhere.

ਪੀਓ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਮੋਲਕ ਜਿਉ ਚਾਖਿ ਗੂੰਗਾ ਮੁਸਕਾਵਤ ॥੧॥
पीओ अम्रित नामु अमोलक जिउ चाखि गूंगा मुसकावत ॥१॥
Pī▫o amriṯ nām amolak ji▫o cẖākẖ gūngā muskāvaṯ. ||1||
I drink in the Invaluable Nectar of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. Like the mute, I can only smile - I cannot speak of its flavor. ||1||
|
ਜੈਸੇ ਪਵਨੁ ਬੰਧ ਕਰਿ ਰਾਖਿਓ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਆਵਤ ਜਾਵਤ ॥
जैसे पवनु बंध करि राखिओ बूझ न आवत जावत ॥
Jaise pavan banḏẖ kar rākẖi▫o būjẖ na āvaṯ jāvaṯ.
As the breath is held in bondage, no one can understand its coming in and going out.
|
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਰਿਦੈ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ਭਇਓ ਹਰਿ ਉਆ ਕੀ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਕਹਾਵਤ ॥੨॥
जा कउ रिदै प्रगासु भइओ हरि उआ की कही न जाइ कहावत ॥२॥
Jā ka▫o riḏai pargās bẖa▫i▫o har u▫ā kī kahī na jā▫e kahāvaṯ. ||2||
So is that person, whose heart is enlightened by the Lord - his story cannot be told. ||2||
|
ਆਨ ਉਪਾਵ ਜੇਤੇ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਹੀਅਹਿ ਤੇਤੇ ਸੀਖੇ ਪਾਵਤ ॥
आन उपाव जेते किछु कहीअहि तेते सीखे पावत ॥
Ān upāv jeṯe kicẖẖ kahī▫ahi ṯeṯe sīkẖe pāvaṯ.
As many other efforts as you can think of - I have seen them and studied them all.

ਅਚਿੰਤ ਲਾਲੁ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਿਓ ਅਗਮ ਜੈਸੇ ਪਰਖਾਵਤ ॥੩॥
अचिंत लालु ग्रिह भीतरि प्रगटिओ अगम जैसे परखावत ॥३॥
Acẖinṯ lāl garih bẖīṯar pargati▫o agam jaise parkẖāvaṯ. ||3||
My Beloved, Carefree Lord has revealed Himself within the home of my own heart; thus I have realized the Inaccessible Lord. ||3||

ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਅਤੁਲੋ ਤੁਲਿਓ ਨ ਜਾਵਤ ॥
निरगुण निरंकार अबिनासी अतुलो तुलिओ न जावत ॥
Nirguṇ nirankār abẖināsī aṯulo ṯuli▫o na jāvaṯ.
The Absolute, Formless, Eternally Unchanging, Immeasurable Lord cannot be measured.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਜਰੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਰਿਆ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਕਉ ਬਨਿ ਆਵਤ ॥੪॥੯॥
कहु नानक अजरु जिनि जरिआ तिस ही कउ बनि आवत ॥४॥९॥
Kaho Nānak ajar jin jari▫ā ṯis hī ka▫o ban āvaṯ. ||4||9||
Says Nanak, whoever endures the unendurable - this state belongs to him alone. ||4||9||

Sārag mėhlā 5.
Saarang, Fifth Mehl:

ਬਿਖਈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਇਵ ਹੀ ਗੁਦਾਰੈ ॥
बिखई दिनु रैनि इव ही गुदारै ॥
Bikẖ▫ī ḏin rain iv hī guḏārai.
The corrupt person passes his days and nights uselessly.

ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ਨ ਭਜੈ ਅਹੰਬੁਧਿ ਮਾਤਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਜੂਐ ਜਿਉ ਹਾਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
गोबिंदु न भजै अह्मबुधि माता जनमु जूऐ जिउ हारै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Gobinḏ na bẖajai ahaʼn▫buḏẖ māṯā janam jū▫ai ji▫o hārai. ||1|| rahā▫o.
He does not vibrate and meditate on the Lord of the Universe; he is intoxicated with egotistical intellect. He loses his life in the gamble. ||1||Pause||
|
ਨਾਮੁ ਅਮੋਲਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਤਿਸ ਸਿਉ ਪਰ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਹਿਤਕਾਰੈ ॥
नामु अमोला प्रीति न तिस सिउ पर निंदा हितकारै ॥
Nām amolā parīṯ na ṯis si▫o par ninḏā hiṯkārai.
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is priceless, but he is not in love with it. He loves only to slander others.

ਛਾਪਰੁ ਬਾਂਧਿ ਸਵਾਰੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਣ ਕੋ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਪਾਵਕੁ ਜਾਰੈ ॥੧॥
छापरु बांधि सवारै त्रिण को दुआरै पावकु जारै ॥१॥
Cẖẖāpar bāʼnḏẖ savārai ṯariṇ ko ḏu▫ārai pāvak jārai. ||1||
Weaving the grass, he builds his house of straw. At the door, he builds a fire. ||1||
|
ਕਾਲਰ ਪੋਟ ਉਠਾਵੈ ਮੂੰਡਹਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਡਾਰੈ ॥
कालर पोट उठावै मूंडहि अम्रितु मन ते डारै ॥
Kālar pot uṯẖāvai mūʼndėh amriṯ man ṯe dārai.
He carries a load of sulfur on his head, and drives the Ambrosial Nectar out of his mind.

ਓਢੈ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਕਾਜਰ ਮਹਿ ਪਰਿਆ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਝਾਰੈ ॥੨॥
ओढै बसत्र काजर महि परिआ बहुरि बहुरि फिरि झारै ॥२॥
Odẖai basṯar kājar mėh pari▫ā bahur bahur fir jẖārai. ||2||
Wearing his good clothes, the mortal falls into the coal-pit; again and again, he tries to shake it off. ||2||
|
ਕਾਟੈ ਪੇਡੁ ਡਾਲ ਪਰਿ ਠਾਢੌ ਖਾਇ ਖਾਇ ਮੁਸਕਾਰੈ ॥
काटै पेडु डाल परि ठाढौ खाइ खाइ मुसकारै ॥
Kātai ped dāl par ṯẖādẖou kẖā▫e kẖā▫e muskārai.
Standing on the branch, eating and eating and smiling, he cuts down the tree.

ਗਿਰਿਓ ਜਾਇ ਰਸਾਤਲਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਛਿਟੀ ਛਿਟੀ ਸਿਰ ਭਾਰੈ ॥੩॥
गिरिओ जाइ रसातलि परिओ छिटी छिटी सिर भारै ॥३॥
Giri▫o jā▫e rasāṯal pari▫o cẖẖitī cẖẖitī sir bẖārai. ||3||
He falls down head-first and is shattered into bits and pieces. ||3||
|
ਨਿਰਵੈਰੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਵੈਰੁ ਰਚਾਏ ਪਹੁਚਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਗਵਾਰੈ ॥
निरवैरै संगि वैरु रचाए पहुचि न सकै गवारै ॥
Nirvairai sang vair racẖā▫e pahucẖ na sakai gavārai.
He bears vengeance against the Lord who is free of vengeance. The fool is not up to the task.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਤਨ ਕਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੈ ॥੪॥੧੦॥
कहु नानक संतन का राखा पारब्रहमु निरंकारै ॥४॥१०॥
Kaho Nānak sanṯan kā rākẖā pārbarahm nirankārai. ||4||10||
Says Nanak, the Saving Grace of the Saints is the Formless, Supreme Lord God. ||4||10||

Saarang, Fifth Mehl:

ਅਵਰਿ ਸਭਿ ਭੂਲੇ ਭ੍ਰਮਤ ਨ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥
अवरि सभि भूले भ्रमत न जानिआ ॥
Avar sabẖ bẖūle bẖarmaṯ na jāni▫ā.
All the others are deluded by doubt; they do not understand.

ਏਕੁ ਸੁਧਾਖਰੁ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਬੇਦਹਿ ਤਤੁ ਪਛਾਨਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
एकु सुधाखरु जा कै हिरदै वसिआ तिनि बेदहि ततु पछानिआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Ėk suḏẖākẖar jā kai hirḏai vasi▫ā ṯin beḏėh ṯaṯ pacẖẖāni▫ā. ||1|| rahā▫o.
That person, within whose heart the One Pure Word abides, realizes the essence of the Vedas. ||1||Pause||

ਪਰਵਿਰਤਿ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਜੇਤਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਈਐ ਤੇਤਾ ਲੋਗ ਪਚਾਰਾ ॥
परविरति मारगु जेता किछु होईऐ तेता लोग पचारा ॥
Parviraṯ mārag jeṯā kicẖẖ ho▫ī▫ai ṯeṯā log pacẖārā.
He walks in the ways of the world, trying to please people.
|
ਜਉ ਲਉ ਰਿਦੈ ਨਹੀ ਪਰਗਾਸਾ ਤਉ ਲਉ ਅੰਧ ਅੰਧਾਰਾ ॥੧॥
जउ लउ रिदै नही परगासा तउ लउ अंध अंधारा ॥१॥
Ja▫o la▫o riḏai nahī pargāsā ṯa▫o la▫o anḏẖ anḏẖārā. ||1||
But as long as his heart is not enlightened, he is stuck in pitch black darkness. ||1||
|
ਜੈਸੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਸਾਧੈ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਬੀਜੈ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਂਮੈ ॥
जैसे धरती साधै बहु बिधि बिनु बीजै नही जांमै ॥
Jaise ḏẖarṯī sāḏẖai baho biḏẖ bin bījai nahī jāʼnmai.
The land may be prepared in every way, but nothing sprouts without being planted.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਤੁਟੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੈ ॥੨॥
राम नाम बिनु मुकति न होई है तुटै नाही अभिमानै ॥२॥
Rām nām bin mukaṯ na ho▫ī hai ṯutai nāhī abẖimānai. ||2||
Just so, without the Lord's Name, no one is liberated, nor is egotistical pride eradicated. ||2||
|
ਨੀਰੁ ਬਿਲੋਵੈ ਅਤਿ ਸ੍ਰਮੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਨੈਨੂ ਕੈਸੇ ਰੀਸੈ ॥
नीरु बिलोवै अति स्रमु पावै नैनू कैसे रीसै ॥
Nīr bilovai aṯ saram pāvai nainū kaise rīsai.
The mortal may churn water until he is sore, but how can butter be produced?

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਮਿਲਤ ਨਹੀ ਜਗਦੀਸੈ ॥੩॥
बिनु गुर भेटे मुकति न काहू मिलत नही जगदीसै ॥३॥
Bin gur bẖete mukaṯ na kāhū milaṯ nahī jagḏīsai. ||3||
Without meeting the Guru, no one is liberated, and the Lord of the Universe is not met. ||3||
