ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਹਿ ਆਪੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
गुर सबदु बीचारहि आपु जाइ ॥
Gur sabaḏ bīcẖārėh āp jā▫e.
Reflecting on the Guru's word, thy ego shall be stilled,
|
ਸਾਚ ਜੋਗੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਆਇ ॥੮॥
साच जोगु मनि वसै आइ ॥८॥
Sācẖ jog man vasai ā▫e. ||8||
and the 'True Yog shall come and abide within thy mind.
|
ਜਿਨਿ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਦਿਤਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
जिनि जीउ पिंडु दिता तिसु चेतहि नाहि ॥
Jin jī▫o pind ḏiṯā ṯis cẖīṯėh nāhi.
Thou remember not Him, who has blessed thee with soul and body.

ਮੜੀ ਮਸਾਣੀ ਮੂੜੇ ਜੋਗੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੯॥
मड़ी मसाणी मूड़े जोगु नाहि ॥९॥
Maṛī masāṇī mūṛe jog nāhi. ||9||
O unwise man, abiding at graveyards and cremation grounds union with God is obtained not.

ਗੁਣ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬੋਲੈ ਭਲੀ ਬਾਣਿ ॥
गुण नानकु बोलै भली बाणि ॥
Guṇ Nānak bolai bẖalī bāṇ.
Nanak utters the meritorious and sublime Gurbani.

ਤੁਮ ਹੋਹੁ ਸੁਜਾਖੇ ਲੇਹੁ ਪਛਾਣਿ ॥੧੦॥੫॥
तुम होहु सुजाखे लेहु पछाणि ॥१०॥५॥
Ŧum hohu sujākẖe leho pacẖẖāṇ. ||10||5||
See thou with thine eyes and realise its worth.

ਬਸੰਤੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥
बसंतु महला १ ॥
Basanṯ mėhlā 1.
Basant 1st Guru.
|
ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਅਧੁਲੀ ਕਾਰ ॥
दुबिधा दुरमति अधुली कार ॥
Ḏubiḏẖā ḏurmaṯ aḏẖulī kār.
Through duality and evil-intellect the mortal does blind deeds.
|
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਭਰਮੈ ਮਝਿ ਗੁਬਾਰ ॥੧॥
मनमुखि भरमै मझि गुबार ॥१॥
Manmukẖ bẖarmai majẖ gubār. ||1||
The egocentric wanders in darkness.
|
ਮਨੁ ਅੰਧੁਲਾ ਅੰਧੁਲੀ ਮਤਿ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
मनु अंधुला अंधुली मति लागै ॥
Man anḏẖulā anḏẖulī maṯ lāgai.
The blind man follows the blind counsel.
|
ਗੁਰ ਕਰਣੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਨ ਭਾਗੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
गुर करणी बिनु भरमु न भागै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Gur karṇī bin bẖaram na bẖāgai. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Without going the Guru's way, one's doubt is dispelled not. Pause.
|
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨ ਭਾਈ ॥
मनमुखि अंधुले गुरमति न भाई ॥
Manmukẖ anḏẖule gurmaṯ na bẖā▫ī.
The wayward person is blind and likes not the Guru's instruction.
|
ਪਸੂ ਭਏ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੨॥
पसू भए अभिमानु न जाई ॥२॥
Pasū bẖa▫e abẖimān na jā▫ī. ||2||
He has become a beast and is rid not of his self-conceit.
|
ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਜੰਤ ਉਪਾਏ ॥
लख चउरासीह जंत उपाए ॥
Lakẖ cẖa▫orāsīh janṯ upā▫e.
God has created eighty four Lakh species of beings.
|
ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਭਾਣੇ ਸਿਰਜਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੩॥
मेरे ठाकुर भाणे सिरजि समाए ॥३॥
Mere ṯẖākur bẖāṇe siraj samā▫e. ||3||
In His will my Lord creates and destroys them.
|
ਸਗਲੀ ਭੂਲੈ ਨਹੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਚਾਰੁ ॥
सगली भूलै नही सबदु अचारु ॥
Saglī bẖūlai nahī sabaḏ acẖār.
Everyone, who owns not the Name and good conduct goes astray.
|
ਸੋ ਸਮਝੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥੪॥
सो समझै जिसु गुरु करतारु ॥४॥
So samjẖai jis gur karṯār. ||4||
He alone is instructed, whom the Guru-God blesses.
|
ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਾਕਰ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਭਾਣੇ ॥
गुर के चाकर ठाकुर भाणे ॥
Gur ke cẖākar ṯẖākur bẖāṇe.
The Guru's servants are pleasing to the Lord.
|
ਬਖਸਿ ਲੀਏ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਮ ਕਾਣੇ ॥੫॥
बखसि लीए नाही जम काणे ॥५॥
Bakẖas lī▫e nāhī jam kāṇe. ||5||
Them the Lord forgives and for them the fear of Death's courier is no more.
|
ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਏਕੋ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
जिन कै हिरदै एको भाइआ ॥
Jin kai hirḏai eko bẖā▫i▫ā.
They who heartily love the One Lord;
|
ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥੬॥
आपे मेले भरमु चुकाइआ ॥६॥
Āpe mele bẖaram cẖukā▫i▫ā. ||6||
dispelling their doubt, the Lord unites them with Himself.
|
ਬੇਮੁਹਤਾਜੁ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
बेमुहताजु बेअंतु अपारा ॥
Bemuhṯāj be▫anṯ apārā.
Fear-free, Limitless and Infinite is the Lord.
|
ਸਚਿ ਪਤੀਜੈ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰਾ ॥੭॥
सचि पतीजै करणैहारा ॥७॥
Sacẖ paṯījai karnaihārā. ||7||
He, the Creator is pleased with truth.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਭੂਲੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਮਝਾਵੈ ॥
नानक भूले गुरु समझावै ॥
Nānak bẖūle gur samjẖāvai.
O Nanak, the Guru instructs the erring one,
|
ਏਕੁ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ਸਾਚਿ ਟਿਕਾਵੈ ॥੮॥੬॥
एकु दिखावै साचि टिकावै ॥८॥६॥
Ėk ḏikẖāvai sācẖ tikāvai. ||8||6||
and enshrining truth within him, shows him the Unique Lord.

ਬਸੰਤੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥
बसंतु महला १ ॥
Basanṯ mėhlā 1.
Basant 1st Guru.
|
ਆਪੇ ਭਵਰਾ ਫੂਲ ਬੇਲਿ ॥
आपे भवरा फूल बेलि ॥
Āpe bẖavrā fūl bel.
Lord Himself is the bumblebee, the flower and the creeper,
|
ਆਪੇ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮੀਤ ਮੇਲਿ ॥੧॥
आपे संगति मीत मेलि ॥१॥
Āpe sangaṯ mīṯ mel. ||1||
and He Himself unites man with society of the Guru, the friend.
|
ਐਸੀ ਭਵਰਾ ਬਾਸੁ ਲੇ ॥
ऐसी भवरा बासु ले ॥
Aisī bẖavrā bās le.
O bumble-bee, suck thou such fragrance,
|
ਤਰਵਰ ਫੂਲੇ ਬਨ ਹਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
तरवर फूले बन हरे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Ŧarvar fūle ban hare. ||1|| rahā▫o.
by which the trees may flower and the woods may reverdure. Pause.
|
ਆਪੇ ਕਵਲਾ ਕੰਤੁ ਆਪਿ ॥
आपे कवला कंतु आपि ॥
Āpe kavlā kanṯ āp.
The Lord Himself is the Lakhshmi and Himself her Spouse.
|
ਆਪੇ ਰਾਵੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਥਾਪਿ ॥੨॥
आपे रावे सबदि थापि ॥२॥
Āpe rāve sabaḏ thāp. ||2||
Installing the world, He Himself enjoys it.
|
ਆਪੇ ਬਛਰੂ ਗਊ ਖੀਰੁ ॥
आपे बछरू गऊ खीरु ॥
Āpe bacẖẖrū ga▫ū kẖīr.
God Himself is the calf, cow and the milk.
|
ਆਪੇ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਥੰਮ੍ਹ੍ਹੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ॥੩॥
आपे मंदरु थम्हु सरीरु ॥३॥
Āpe manḏar thamh sarīr. ||3||
He Himself is the support of the body mansion.
|
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਣੀ ਕਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
आपे करणी करणहारु ॥
Āpe karṇī karanhār.
He Himself is the Deed and the Doer,
|
ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਰਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥੪॥
आपे गुरमुखि करि बीचारु ॥४॥
Āpe gurmukẖ kar bīcẖār. ||4||
and Himself booming the Guru-ward reflects upon Himself.
|
ਤੂ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖਹਿ ਕਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
तू करि करि देखहि करणहारु ॥
Ŧū kar kar ḏekẖėh karanhār.
Creating the world, Thou behold it, O my Creator-Lord.
|
ਜੋਤਿ ਜੀਅ ਅਸੰਖ ਦੇਇ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥੫॥
जोति जीअ असंख देइ अधारु ॥५॥
Joṯ jī▫a asaʼnkẖ ḏe▫e aḏẖār. ||5||
Thou give support to the light of the numberless beings.
|
ਤੂ ਸਰੁ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਹੀਰੁ ॥
तू सरु सागरु गुण गहीरु ॥
Ŧū sar sāgar guṇ gahīr.
Thou, O Lord, are like the ocean of unfathomable virtues.
|
ਤੂ ਅਕੁਲ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਪਰਮ ਹੀਰੁ ॥੬॥
तू अकुल निरंजनु परम हीरु ॥६॥
Ŧū akul niranjan param hīr. ||6||
Thou are the Unknowable and Immaculate most sublime jewel.
|
ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰਣ ਜੋਗੁ ॥
तू आपे करता करण जोगु ॥
Ŧū āpe karṯā karaṇ jog.
Thou Thyself are the Creator, potent to do anything,
|
ਨਿਹਕੇਵਲੁ ਰਾਜਨ ਸੁਖੀ ਲੋਗੁ ॥੭॥
निहकेवलु राजन सुखी लोगु ॥७॥
Nihkeval rājan sukẖī log. ||7||
and the independent King whose subjects are in peace.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਧ੍ਰਾਪੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਆਦਿ ॥
नानक ध्रापे हरि नाम सुआदि ॥
Nānak ḏẖarāpe har nām su▫āḏ.
Nanak is satiated with the relish of the Lord's Name.
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਜਨਮੁ ਬਾਦਿ ॥੮॥੭॥
बिनु हरि गुर प्रीतम जनमु बादि ॥८॥७॥
Bin har gur parīṯam janam bāḏ. ||8||7||
Vain is one's life without the beloved Guru-God.
|
ਬਸੰਤੁ ਹਿੰਡੋਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਘਰੁ ੨
बसंतु हिंडोलु महला १ घरु २
Basanṯ hindol mėhlā 1 gẖar 2
Basant Hindol. 1st Guru.
|
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ੴ सतिगुर प्रसादि ॥
Ik▫oaʼnkār saṯgur parsāḏ.
There is but One God, By the True Guru's grace, He is attained.
|
ਨਉ ਸਤ ਚਉਦਹ ਤੀਨਿ ਚਾਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਮਹਲਤਿ ਚਾਰਿ ਬਹਾਲੀ ॥
नउ सत चउदह तीनि चारि करि महलति चारि बहाली ॥
Na▫o saṯ cẖa▫oḏah ṯīn cẖār kar mahlaṯ cẖār bahālī.
Establishing the nine regions, seven continents, fourteen worlds three qualities, four ages and the four sources of creation, the Lord has seated them all in His mansion.

ਚਾਰੇ ਦੀਵੇ ਚਹੁ ਹਥਿ ਦੀਏ ਏਕਾ ਏਕਾ ਵਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
चारे दीवे चहु हथि दीए एका एका वारी ॥१॥
Cẖāre ḏīve cẖahu hath ḏī▫e ekā ekā vārī. ||1||
He put the four lamps one by one into the hands of the four ages.
|
ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਮਧੁਸੂਦਨ ਮਾਧੌ ਐਸੀ ਸਕਤਿ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
मिहरवान मधुसूदन माधौ ऐसी सकति तुम्हारी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Miharvān maḏẖusūḏan māḏẖou aisī sakaṯ ṯumĥārī. ||1|| rahā▫o.
O my merciful Master, the slayer of Madh demon and the Lord of Lakhshmi, such is Thine power. Pause.

ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਲਸਕਰੁ ਪਾਵਕੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਧਰਮੁ ਕਰੇ ਸਿਕਦਾਰੀ ॥
घरि घरि लसकरु पावकु तेरा धरमु करे सिकदारी ॥
Gẖar gẖar laskar pāvak ṯerā ḏẖaram kare sikḏārī.
The fire in every home is Thy army and righteousness exercises chieftainship.

ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇਗ ਮਿਲੈ ਇਕ ਵੇਰਾ ਭਾਗੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਭੰਡਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
धरती देग मिलै इक वेरा भागु तेरा भंडारी ॥२॥
Ḏẖarṯī ḏeg milai ik verā bẖāg ṯerā bẖandārī. ||2||
The earth is Thy big cooking-pot and the being receive it but once. Destiny is Thy store-keeper.
|
ਨਾ ਸਾਬੂਰੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਮੰਗੈ ਨਾਰਦੁ ਕਰੇ ਖੁਆਰੀ ॥
ना साबूरु होवै फिरि मंगै नारदु करे खुआरी ॥
Nā sābūr hovai fir mangai nāraḏ kare kẖu▫ārī.
Becoming non-content, man begs again and the mercurial mind humiliates him.
