ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਜਨੁ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥੭॥
हरि रसि राता जनु परवाणु ॥७॥
Har ras rāṯā jan parvāṇ. ||7||
He, who is imbued with the God's elixir; that man is approved by the Lord.
|
ਇਤ ਉਤ ਦੇਖਉ ਸਹਜੇ ਰਾਵਉ ॥
इत उत देखउ सहजे रावउ ॥
Iṯ uṯ ḏekẖ▫a▫u sėhje rāva▫o.
I see the Lord everywhere, and naturally meditate I on Him.
|
ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਭਾਵਉ ॥
तुझ बिनु ठाकुर किसै न भावउ ॥
Ŧujẖ bin ṯẖākur kisai na bẖāva▫o.
Without Thee, O Lord, I love not any other.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉਮੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਇਆ ॥
नानक हउमै सबदि जलाइआ ॥
Nānak ha▫umai sabaḏ jalā▫i▫ā.
Nanak, I have burnt my ego with the Name,
|
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਦਰਸੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥੮॥੩॥
सतिगुरि साचा दरसु दिखाइआ ॥८॥३॥
Saṯgur sācẖā ḏaras ḏikẖā▫i▫ā. ||8||3||
and the True Guru has shown me the True Guru has shown me the True Lord's vision.

ਬਸੰਤੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥
बसंतु महला १ ॥
Basanṯ mėhlā 1.
Basant 1st Guru.
|
ਚੰਚਲੁ ਚੀਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਪਾਰਾ ॥
चंचलु चीतु न पावै पारा ॥
Cẖancẖal cẖīṯ na pāvai pārā.
The mercurial mind can find not the Lord's limit.
|
ਆਵਤ ਜਾਤ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਬਾਰਾ ॥
आवत जात न लागै बारा ॥
Āvaṯ jāṯ na lāgai bārā.
In coming and going it makes not any delay.
|
ਦੂਖੁ ਘਣੋ ਮਰੀਐ ਕਰਤਾਰਾ ॥
दूखु घणो मरीऐ करतारा ॥
Ḏūkẖ gẖaṇo marī▫ai karṯārā.
My Creator-Lord, I am dying of immense pain.
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਕੋ ਕਰੈ ਨ ਸਾਰਾ ॥੧॥
बिनु प्रीतम को करै न सारा ॥१॥
Bin parīṯam ko karai na sārā. ||1||
Without my beloved, no one takes care of me.
|
ਸਭ ਊਤਮ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖਉ ਹੀਨਾ ॥
सभ ऊतम किसु आखउ हीना ॥
Sabẖ ūṯam kis ākẖa▫o hīnā.
All are sublime, whom should I call low?
|
ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤੀ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਪਤੀਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
हरि भगती सचि नामि पतीना ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Har bẖagṯī sacẖ nām paṯīnā. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Through the Lord's meditation and the True Name, I am satiated. Pause.
|
ਅਉਖਧ ਕਰਿ ਥਾਕੀ ਬਹੁਤੇਰੇ ॥
अउखध करि थाकी बहुतेरे ॥
A▫ukẖaḏẖ kar thākī bahuṯere.
I have grown weary of treating myself with many medicines.
|
ਕਿਉ ਦੁਖੁ ਚੂਕੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮੇਰੇ ॥
किउ दुखु चूकै बिनु गुर मेरे ॥
Ki▫o ḏukẖ cẖūkai bin gur mere.
How can the disease be eradicated without my Guru?
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੂਖ ਘਣੇਰੇ ॥
बिनु हरि भगती दूख घणेरे ॥
Bin har bẖagṯī ḏūkẖ gẖaṇere.
Without the Lord's love-worship, Many miseries befall the mortal.
|
ਦੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਦਾਤੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਮੇਰੇ ॥੨॥
दुख सुख दाते ठाकुर मेरे ॥२॥
Ḏukẖ sukẖ ḏāṯe ṯẖākur mere. ||2||
My Lord is the Giver of pain and pleasure.
|
ਰੋਗੁ ਵਡੋ ਕਿਉ ਬਾਂਧਉ ਧੀਰਾ ॥
रोगु वडो किउ बांधउ धीरा ॥
Rog vado ki▫o bāʼnḏẖa▫o ḏẖīrā.
Acute is my malady. How shall I comfort myself?
|
ਰੋਗੁ ਬੁਝੈ ਸੋ ਕਾਟੈ ਪੀਰਾ ॥
रोगु बुझै सो काटै पीरा ॥
Rog bujẖai so kātai pīrā.
He, who knows the malady; he alone can rid me of the pain,
|
ਮੈ ਅਵਗਣ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਰੀਰਾ ॥
मै अवगण मन माहि सरीरा ॥
Mai avgaṇ man māhi sarīrā.
Within my mind and body are the demerits.
|
ਢੂਢਤ ਖੋਜਤ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਬੀਰਾ ॥੩॥
ढूढत खोजत गुरि मेले बीरा ॥३॥
Dẖūdẖaṯ kẖojaṯ gur mele bīrā. ||3||
Searching and seeking I met with my Guru, O brother.
|
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਦਾਰੂ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥
गुर का सबदु दारू हरि नाउ ॥
Gur kā sabaḏ ḏārū har nā▫o.
The Guru's word and the God's Name are the penacea of all ills.
|
ਜਿਉ ਤੂ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਤਿਵੈ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
जिउ तू राखहि तिवै रहाउ ॥
Ji▫o ṯū rākẖahi ṯivai rahā▫o.
As Thou keep me, O Lord, so do I live,
|
ਜਗੁ ਰੋਗੀ ਕਹ ਦੇਖਿ ਦਿਖਾਉ ॥
जगु रोगी कह देखि दिखाउ ॥
Jag rogī kah ḏekẖ ḏikẖā▫o.
The whole world itself is sick, thus whom should I seek and search to cure me?
|
ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਾਇਲੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਾਉ ॥੪॥
हरि निरमाइलु निरमलु नाउ ॥४॥
Har nirmā▫il nirmal nā▫o. ||4||
Immaculate is my God and Immaculate is His Name.
|
ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਘਰੁ ਜੋ ਦੇਖਿ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ॥
घर महि घरु जो देखि दिखावै ॥
Gẖar mėh gẖar jo ḏekẖ ḏikẖāvai.
One who sees and shows the Lord's abode in very mind;
|
ਗੁਰ ਮਹਲੀ ਸੋ ਮਹਲਿ ਬੁਲਾਵੈ ॥
गुर महली सो महलि बुलावै ॥
Gur mahlī so mahal bulāvai.
he the Guru, ushers the bride into her Lord's presence.
|
ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਮਨੂਆ ਚਿਤ ਮਹਿ ਚੀਤਾ ॥
मन महि मनूआ चित महि चीता ॥
Man mėh manū▫ā cẖiṯ mėh cẖīṯā.
Their soul stays within their soul and attention within their attention,
|
ਐਸੇ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਲੋਗ ਅਤੀਤਾ ॥੫॥
ऐसे हरि के लोग अतीता ॥५॥
Aise har ke log aṯīṯā. ||5||
such are the detached men of God.
|
ਹਰਖ ਸੋਗ ਤੇ ਰਹਹਿ ਨਿਰਾਸਾ ॥
हरख सोग ते रहहि निरासा ॥
Harakẖ sog ṯe rahėh nirāsā.
They remain free of desire of weal and woe,
|
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਚਾਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਵਾਸਾ ॥
अम्रितु चाखि हरि नामि निवासा ॥
Amriṯ cẖākẖ har nām nivāsā.
and tasting Nectar abide in the Lord's Name.
|
ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਿ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗਾ ॥
आपु पछाणि रहै लिव लागा ॥
Āp pacẖẖāṇ rahai liv lāgā.
They recognise themselves and remain attuned to the Lord.
|
ਜਨਮੁ ਜੀਤਿ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਭਾਗਾ ॥੬॥
जनमु जीति गुरमति दुखु भागा ॥६॥
Janam jīṯ gurmaṯ ḏukẖ bẖāgā. ||6||
They win the battle of life and their pain hastens away through the Guru's instruction.
|
ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਸਚੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਵਉ ॥
गुरि दीआ सचु अम्रितु पीवउ ॥
Gur ḏī▫ā sacẖ amriṯ pīva▫o.
I in-drink the Nectar of truth; that the Guru has given me,
|
ਸਹਜਿ ਮਰਉ ਜੀਵਤ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਉ ॥
सहजि मरउ जीवत ही जीवउ ॥
Sahj mara▫o jīvaṯ hī jīva▫o.
and easily dying to myself, live I the true life.
|
ਅਪਣੋ ਕਰਿ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
अपणो करि राखहु गुर भावै ॥
Apṇo kar rākẖo gur bẖāvai.
If the Guru so wills, Thou, O Lord protect me as Thy own.
|
ਤੁਮਰੋ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੭॥
तुमरो होइ सु तुझहि समावै ॥७॥
Ŧumro ho▫e so ṯujẖėh samāvai. ||7||
He, who becomes Thine, merges in Thee, O Lord.
|
ਭੋਗੀ ਕਉ ਦੁਖੁ ਰੋਗ ਵਿਆਪੈ ॥
भोगी कउ दुखु रोग विआपै ॥
Bẖogī ka▫o ḏukẖ rog vi▫āpai.
An agnosing ailment overtakes the lustful man.
|
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਪੈ ॥
घटि घटि रवि रहिआ प्रभु जापै ॥
Gẖat gẖat rav rahi▫ā parabẖ jāpai.
The Lord is seen pervading all the hearts.
|
ਸੁਖ ਦੁਖ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਅਤੀਤਾ ॥
सुख दुख ही ते गुर सबदि अतीता ॥
Sukẖ ḏukẖ hī ṯe gur sabaḏ aṯīṯā.
Through the Guru's instruction, one remains detached from pleasure and pain,
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਮੁ ਰਵੈ ਹਿਤ ਚੀਤਾ ॥੮॥੪॥
नानक रामु रवै हित चीता ॥८॥४॥
Nānak rām ravai hiṯ cẖīṯā. ||8||4||
O Nanak, who with hearty love, contemplates his Lord.
|
ਬਸੰਤੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਇਕ ਤੁਕੀਆ ॥
बसंतु महला १ इक तुकीआ ॥
Basanṯ mėhlā 1 ik ṯukī▫ā.
Basant 1st Guru. Ik-tukia.
|
ਮਤੁ ਭਸਮ ਅੰਧੂਲੇ ਗਰਬਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
मतु भसम अंधूले गरबि जाहि ॥
Maṯ bẖasam anḏẖūle garab jāhi.
O blind man, pride thou not on besmearing thy body with ashes.
|
ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਨਾਗੇ ਜੋਗੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
इन बिधि नागे जोगु नाहि ॥१॥
In biḏẖ nāge jog nāhi. ||1||
This wise, O naked man, thou shall unite not with thy Lord.
|
ਮੂੜ੍ਹ੍ਹੇ ਕਾਹੇ ਬਿਸਾਰਿਓ ਤੈ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ॥
मूड़्हे काहे बिसारिओ तै राम नाम ॥
Mūṛĥe kāhe bisāri▫o ṯai rām nām.
O feel why has thou forgotten the Lord's Name?
|
ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਆਵੈ ਕਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
अंत कालि तेरै आवै काम ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Anṯ kāl ṯerai āvai kām. ||1|| rahā▫o.
At the last moment, it shall be of avail to thee. Pause.
|
ਗੁਰ ਪੂਛਿ ਤੁਮ ਕਰਹੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
गुर पूछि तुम करहु बीचारु ॥
Gur pūcẖẖ ṯum karahu bīcẖār.
Consulting the Guru, reflect thou on the Name.
|
ਜਹ ਦੇਖਉ ਤਹ ਸਾਰਿਗਪਾਣਿ ॥੨॥
जह देखउ तह सारिगपाणि ॥२॥
Jah ḏekẖ▫a▫u ṯah sārigpāṇ. ||2||
Wherever I see, I see the Lord of the earth there.
|
ਕਿਆ ਹਉ ਆਖਾ ਜਾਂ ਕਛੂ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
किआ हउ आखा जां कछू नाहि ॥
Ki▫ā ha▫o ākẖā jāʼn kacẖẖū nāhi.
What can I say, when I myself am nothing?
|
ਜਾਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਇ ॥੩॥
जाति पति सभ तेरै नाइ ॥३॥
Jāṯ paṯ sabẖ ṯerai nā▫e. ||3||
All my caste and honour are through Thy Name.
|
ਕਾਹੇ ਮਾਲੁ ਦਰਬੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਗਰਬਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
काहे मालु दरबु देखि गरबि जाहि ॥
Kāhe māl ḏarab ḏekẖ garab jāhi.
Why take thou pride on beholding thine property and wealth?
|
ਚਲਤੀ ਬਾਰ ਤੇਰੋ ਕਛੂ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੪॥
चलती बार तेरो कछू नाहि ॥४॥
Cẖalṯī bār ṯero kacẖẖū nāhi. ||4||
Nothing shall be thine at the time of departure.
|
ਪੰਚ ਮਾਰਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਰਖਹੁ ਥਾਇ ॥
पंच मारि चितु रखहु थाइ ॥
Pancẖ mār cẖiṯ rakẖahu thā▫e.
Subdue thou thy five demons, and keep thy mind in its place.
|
ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਕੀ ਇਹੈ ਪਾਂਇ ॥੫॥
जोग जुगति की इहै पांइ ॥५॥
Jog jugaṯ kī ihai pāʼn▫e. ||5||
This alone is the foundation of the way to union with God.
|
ਹਉਮੈ ਪੈਖੜੁ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨੈ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
हउमै पैखड़ु तेरे मनै माहि ॥
Ha▫umai paikẖaṛ ṯere manai māhi.
Thy mind is tethered with the chains of ego (within they mind is the hopper of pride)
|
ਹਰਿ ਨ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਮੂੜੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੬॥
हरि न चेतहि मूड़े मुकति जाहि ॥६॥
Har na cẖīṯėh mūṛe mukaṯ jāhi. ||6||
O blockhead, thou remember not thy God, by which thou can be emancipated.
|
ਮਤ ਹਰਿ ਵਿਸਰਿਐ ਜਮ ਵਸਿ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
मत हरि विसरिऐ जम वसि पाहि ॥
Maṯ har visri▫ai jam vas pāhi.
Forget thou not the Lord, otherwise thou shall fall in the clutches of Yama.
|
ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲਿ ਮੂੜੇ ਚੋਟ ਖਾਹਿ ॥੭॥
अंत कालि मूड़े चोट खाहि ॥७॥
Anṯ kāl mūṛe cẖot kẖāhi. ||7||
At the last moment, O unwise man, thou shall bear the blows.
