ਮਨੁ ਭੂਲਉ ਭਰਮਸਿ ਭਵਰ ਤਾਰ ॥
मनु भूलउ भरमसि भवर तार ॥
Man bʰoola▫o bʰarmas bʰavar ṫaar.
The mind, deluded by doubt, buzzes around like a bumble bee.

ਬਿਲ ਬਿਰਥੇ ਚਾਹੈ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥
बिल बिरथे चाहै बहु बिकार ॥
Bil birṫʰé chaahæ baho bikaar.
The holes of the body are worthless, if the mind is filled with such great desire for corrupt passions.
|
ਮੈਗਲ ਜਿਉ ਫਾਸਸਿ ਕਾਮਹਾਰ ॥
मैगल जिउ फाससि कामहार ॥
Mægal ji▫o faasas kaamhaar.
It is like the elephant, trapped by its own sexual desire.
|
ਕੜਿ ਬੰਧਨਿ ਬਾਧਿਓ ਸੀਸ ਮਾਰ ॥੨॥
कड़ि बंधनि बाधिओ सीस मार ॥२॥
Kaṛ banḋʰan baaḋʰi▫o sees maar. ||2||
It is caught and held tight by the chains, and beaten on its head. ||2||
|
ਮਨੁ ਮੁਗਧੌ ਦਾਦਰੁ ਭਗਤਿਹੀਨੁ ॥
मनु मुगधौ दादरु भगतिहीनु ॥
Man mugḋʰou ḋaaḋar bʰagṫiheen.
The mind is like a foolish frog, without devotional worship.
|
ਦਰਿ ਭ੍ਰਸਟ ਸਰਾਪੀ ਨਾਮ ਬੀਨੁ ॥
दरि भ्रसट सरापी नाम बीनु ॥
Ḋar bʰarsat saraapee naam been.
It is cursed and condemned in the Court of the Lord, without the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਤਾ ਕੈ ਜਾਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਤੀ ਨਾਮ ਲੀਨ ॥
ता कै जाति न पाती नाम लीन ॥
Ṫaa kæ jaaṫ na paaṫee naam leen.
He has no class or honor, and no one even mentions his name.
|
ਸਭਿ ਦੂਖ ਸਖਾਈ ਗੁਣਹ ਬੀਨ ॥੩॥
सभि दूख सखाई गुणह बीन ॥३॥
Sabʰ ḋookʰ sakʰaa▫ee guṇah been. ||3||
That person who lacks virtue - all of his pains and sorrows are his only companions. ||3||
|
ਮਨੁ ਚਲੈ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਾਖੁ ॥
मनु चलै न जाई ठाकि राखु ॥
Man chalæ na jaa▫ee tʰaak raakʰ.
His mind wanders out, and cannot be brought back or restrained.
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਰਾਤੇ ਪਤਿ ਨ ਸਾਖੁ ॥
बिनु हरि रस राते पति न साखु ॥
Bin har ras raaṫé paṫ na saakʰ.
Without being imbued with the sublime essence of the Lord, it has no honor or credit.
|
ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਸੁਰਤਾ ਆਪਿ ਰਾਖੁ ॥
तू आपे सुरता आपि राखु ॥
Ṫoo aapé surṫaa aap raakʰ.
You Yourself are the Listener, Lord, and You Yourself are our Protector.

ਧਰਿ ਧਾਰਣ ਦੇਖੈ ਜਾਣੈ ਆਪਿ ॥੪॥
धरि धारण देखै जाणै आपि ॥४॥
Ḋʰar ḋʰaaraṇ ḋékʰæ jaaṇæ aap. ||4||
You are the Support of the earth; You Yourself behold and understand it. ||4||
|
ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ਕਿਸੁ ਕਹਉ ਜਾਇ ॥
आपि भुलाए किसु कहउ जाइ ॥
Aap bʰulaa▫é kis kaha▫o jaa▫é.
When You Yourself make me wander, unto whom can I complain?
|
ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਕਹਉ ਮਾਇ ॥
गुरु मेले बिरथा कहउ माइ ॥
Gur mélé birṫʰaa kaha▫o maa▫é.
Meeting the Guru, I will tell Him of my pain, O my mother.
|
ਅਵਗਣ ਛੋਡਉ ਗੁਣ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
अवगण छोडउ गुण कमाइ ॥
Avgaṇ chʰoda▫o guṇ kamaa▫é.
Abandoning my worthless demerits, now I practice virtue.
|
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਰਾਤਾ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੫॥
गुर सबदी राता सचि समाइ ॥५॥
Gur sabḋee raaṫaa sach samaa▫é. ||5||
Imbued with the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, I am absorbed in the True Lord. ||5||
|
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਮਤਿ ਊਤਮ ਹੋਇ ॥
सतिगुर मिलिऐ मति ऊतम होइ ॥
Saṫgur mili▫æ maṫ ooṫam ho▫é.
Meeting with the True Guru, the intellect is elevated and exalted.
|
ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਢੈ ਧੋਇ ॥
मनु निरमलु हउमै कढै धोइ ॥
Man nirmal ha▫umæ kadʰæ ḋʰo▫é.
The mind becomes immaculate, and egotism is washed away.
|
ਸਦਾ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਬੰਧਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
सदा मुकतु बंधि न सकै कोइ ॥
Saḋaa mukaṫ banḋʰ na sakæ ko▫é.
He is liberated forever, and no one can put him in bondage.
|
ਸਦਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ਅਉਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੬॥
सदा नामु वखाणै अउरु न कोइ ॥६॥
Saḋaa naam vakʰaaṇæ a▫or na ko▫é. ||6||
He chants the Naam forever, and nothing else. ||6||
|
ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
मनु हरि कै भाणै आवै जाइ ॥
Man har kæ bʰaaṇæ aavæ jaa▫é.
The mind comes and goes according to the Will of the Lord.
|
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਏਕੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
सभ महि एको किछु कहणु न जाइ ॥
Sabʰ mėh éko kichʰ kahaṇ na jaa▫é.
The One Lord is contained amongst all; nothing else can be said.
|
ਸਭੁ ਹੁਕਮੋ ਵਰਤੈ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
सभु हुकमो वरतै हुकमि समाइ ॥
Sabʰ hukmo varṫæ hukam samaa▫é.
The Hukam of His Command pervades everywhere, and all merge in His Command.

ਦੂਖ ਸੂਖ ਸਭ ਤਿਸੁ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੭॥
दूख सूख सभ तिसु रजाइ ॥७॥
Ḋookʰ sookʰ sabʰ ṫis rajaa▫é. ||7||
Pain and pleasure all come by His Will. ||7||
|
ਤੂ ਅਭੁਲੁ ਨ ਭੂਲੌ ਕਦੇ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
तू अभुलु न भूलौ कदे नाहि ॥
Ṫoo abʰul na bʰoolou kaḋé naahi.
You are infallible; You never make mistakes.

ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਏ ਮਤਿ ਅਗਾਹਿ ॥
गुर सबदु सुणाए मति अगाहि ॥
Gur sabaḋ suṇaa▫é maṫ agaahi.
Those who listen to the Word of the Guru’s Shabad - their intellects become deep and profound.
|
ਤੂ ਮੋਟਉ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਸਬਦ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
तू मोटउ ठाकुरु सबद माहि ॥
Ṫoo mota▫o tʰaakur sabaḋ maahi.
You, O my Great Lord and Master, are contained in the Shabad.

ਮਨੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਸਚੁ ਸਲਾਹਿ ॥੮॥੨॥
मनु नानक मानिआ सचु सलाहि ॥८॥२॥
Man Naanak maani▫aa sach salaahi. ||8||2||
O Nanak! My mind is pleased, praising the True Lord. ||8||2||

ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀ ਪਿਆਸ ਜਿਸੁ ਨਰ ਹੋਇ ॥
दरसन की पिआस जिसु नर होइ ॥
Ḋarsan kee pi▫aas jis nar ho▫é.
That person, who thirsts for the Blessed Vision of the Lord’s Darshan,

ਏਕਤੁ ਰਾਚੈ ਪਰਹਰਿ ਦੋਇ ॥
एकतु राचै परहरि दोइ ॥
Ékaṫ raachæ par▫har ḋo▫é.
is absorbed in the One Lord, leaving duality behind.
|
ਦੂਰਿ ਦਰਦੁ ਮਥਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਖਾਇ ॥
दूरि दरदु मथि अमृतु खाइ ॥
Ḋoor ḋaraḋ maṫʰ amriṫ kʰaa▫é.
His pains are taken away, as he churns and drinks in the Ambrosial Nectar.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਏਕ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥
गुरमुखि बूझै एक समाइ ॥१॥
Gurmukʰ boojʰæ ék samaa▫é. ||1||
The Gurmukh understands, and merges in the One Lord. ||1||
|
ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਉ ਕੇਤੀ ਬਿਲਲਾਇ ॥
तेरे दरसन कउ केती बिललाइ ॥
Ṫéré ḋarsan ka▫o kéṫee billaa▫é.
So many cry out for Your Darshan, Lord.

ਵਿਰਲਾ ਕੋ ਚੀਨਸਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
विरला को चीनसि गुर सबदि मिलाइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
virlaa ko cheenas gur sabaḋ milaa▫é. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
How rare are those who realize the Word of the Guru’s Shabad and merge with Him. ||1||Pause||
|
ਬੇਦ ਵਖਾਣਿ ਕਹਹਿ ਇਕੁ ਕਹੀਐ ॥
बेद वखाणि कहहि इकु कहीऐ ॥
Béḋ vakʰaaṇ kahėh ik kahee▫æ.
The Vedas say that we should chant the Name of the One Lord.
|
ਓਹੁ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ਅੰਤੁ ਕਿਨਿ ਲਹੀਐ ॥
ओहु बेअंतु अंतु किनि लहीऐ ॥
Oh bé▫anṫ anṫ kin lahee▫æ.
He is endless; who can find His limits?

ਏਕੋ ਕਰਤਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਗੁ ਕੀਆ ॥
एको करता जिनि जगु कीआ ॥
Éko karṫaa jin jag kee▫aa.
There is only One Creator, who created the world.
|
ਬਾਝੁ ਕਲਾ ਧਰਿ ਗਗਨੁ ਧਰੀਆ ॥੨॥
बाझु कला धरि गगनु धरीआ ॥२॥
Baajʰ kalaa ḋʰar gagan ḋʰaree▫aa. ||2||
Without any pillars, He supports the earth and the sky. ||2||
|
ਏਕੋ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਧੁਨਿ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
एको गिआनु धिआनु धुनि बाणी ॥
Éko gi▫aan ḋʰi▫aan ḋʰun baṇee.
Spiritual wisdom and meditation are contained in the melody of the Bani, the Word of the One Lord.
|
ਏਕੁ ਨਿਰਾਲਮੁ ਅਕਥ ਕਹਾਣੀ ॥
एकु निरालमु अकथ कहाणी ॥
Ék niraalam akaṫʰ kahaaṇee.
The One Lord is Untouched and Unstained; His story is unspoken.
|
ਏਕੋ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਚਾ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥
एको सबदु सचा नीसाणु ॥
Éko sabaḋ sachaa neesaaṇ.
The Shabad, the Word, is the Insignia of the One True Lord.
|
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਜਾਣੁ ॥੩॥
पूरे गुर ते जाणै जाणु ॥३॥
Pooré gur ṫé jaaṇæ jaaṇ. ||3||
Through the Perfect Guru, the Knowing Lord is known. ||3||
|
ਏਕੋ ਧਰਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੈ ਸਚੁ ਕੋਈ ॥
एको धरमु द्रिड़ै सचु कोई ॥
Éko ḋʰaram ḋariṛæ sach ko▫ee.
There is only one religion of Dharma; let everyone grasp this truth.
|
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪੂਰਾ ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਸੋਈ ॥
गुरमति पूरा जुगि जुगि सोई ॥
Gurmaṫ pooraa jug jug so▫ee.
Through the Guru’s Teachings, one becomes perfect, all the ages through.
|
ਅਨਹਦਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਏਕ ਲਿਵ ਤਾਰ ॥
अनहदि राता एक लिव तार ॥
Anhaḋ raaṫaa ék liv ṫaar.
Imbued with the Unmanifest Celestial Lord, and lovingly absorbed in the One,
|
ਓਹੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਅਲਖ ਅਪਾਰ ॥੪॥
ओहु गुरमुखि पावै अलख अपार ॥४॥
Oh gurmukʰ paavæ alakʰ apaar. ||4||
the Gurmukh attains the invisible and infinite. ||4||
|
ਏਕੋ ਤਖਤੁ ਏਕੋ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ॥
एको तखतु एको पातिसाहु ॥
Éko ṫakʰaṫ éko paaṫisaahu.
There is one celestial throne, and One Supreme King.
|
ਸਰਬੀ ਥਾਈ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ॥
सरबी थाई वेपरवाहु ॥
Sarbee ṫʰaa▫ee véparvaahu.
The Independent Lord God is pervading all places.
|
ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਕੀਆ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
तिस का कीआ त्रिभवण सारु ॥
Ṫis kaa kee▫aa ṫaribʰavaṇ saar.
The three worlds are the creation of that Sublime Lord.
|
ਓਹੁ ਅਗਮੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਏਕੰਕਾਰੁ ॥੫॥
ओहु अगमु अगोचरु एकंकारु ॥५॥
Oh agam agochar ékankaar. ||5||
The One Creator of the Creation is Unfathomable and Incomprehensible. ||5||
|
ਏਕਾ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਨਾਉ ॥
एका मूरति साचा नाउ ॥
Ékaa mooraṫ saachaa naa▫o.
His Form is One, and True is His Name.
|
ਤਿਥੈ ਨਿਬੜੈ ਸਾਚੁ ਨਿਆਉ ॥
तिथै निबड़ै साचु निआउ ॥
Ṫiṫʰæ nibṛæ saach ni▫aa▫o.
True justice is administered there.
|
ਸਾਚੀ ਕਰਣੀ ਪਤਿ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
साची करणी पति परवाणु ॥
Saachee karṇee paṫ parvaaṇ.
Those who practice Truth are honored and accepted.
|
ਸਾਚੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਾਵੈ ਮਾਣੁ ॥੬॥
साची दरगह पावै माणु ॥६॥
Saachee ḋargėh paavæ maaṇ. ||6||
They are honored in the Court of the True Lord. ||6||
|
ਏਕਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਏਕੋ ਹੈ ਭਾਉ ॥
एका भगति एको है भाउ ॥
Ékaa bʰagaṫ éko hæ bʰaa▫o.
Devotional worship of the One Lord is the expression of love for the One Lord.
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਭੈ ਭਗਤੀ ਆਵਉ ਜਾਉ ॥
बिनु भै भगती आवउ जाउ ॥
Bin bʰæ bʰagṫee aava▫o jaa▫o.
Without the Fear of God and devotional worship of Him, the mortal comes and goes in reincarnation.
|
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸਮਝਿ ਰਹੈ ਮਿਹਮਾਣੁ ॥
गुर ते समझि रहै मिहमाणु ॥
Gur ṫé samajʰ rahæ mihmaaṇ.
One who obtains this understanding from the Guru dwells like an honored guest in this world.
