ਮਨੁ ਭੂਲਉ ਭਰਮਸਿ ਭਵਰ ਤਾਰ ॥
मनु भूलउ भरमसि भवर तार ॥
Man bẖūla▫o bẖarmas bẖavar ṯār.
The errable mind warders like the black-bee.
|
ਬਿਲ ਬਿਰਥੇ ਚਾਹੈ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥
बिल बिरथे चाहै बहु बिकार ॥
Bil birthe cẖāhai baho bikār.
In vain are the nine body apertures, if the mind greatly desires to commit sins.
|
ਮੈਗਲ ਜਿਉ ਫਾਸਸਿ ਕਾਮਹਾਰ ॥
मैगल जिउ फाससि कामहार ॥
Maigal ji▫o fāsas kāmhār.
The mind is entrapped like the lustful elephant.
|
ਕੜਿ ਬੰਧਨਿ ਬਾਧਿਓ ਸੀਸ ਮਾਰ ॥੨॥
कड़ि बंधनि बाधिओ सीस मार ॥२॥
Kaṛ banḏẖan bāḏẖi▫o sīs mār. ||2||
He is tightly chained with the chains, and bears the brunt of the goad on his head.
|
ਮਨੁ ਮੁਗਧੌ ਦਾਦਰੁ ਭਗਤਿਹੀਨੁ ॥
मनु मुगधौ दादरु भगतिहीनु ॥
Man mugḏẖou ḏāḏar bẖagṯihīn.
Without the Lord's devotion, the mind is foolish like a frog.
|
ਦਰਿ ਭ੍ਰਸਟ ਸਰਾਪੀ ਨਾਮ ਬੀਨੁ ॥
दरि भ्रसट सरापी नाम बीनु ॥
Ḏar bẖarsat sarāpī nām bīn.
Bereft of the Name, the mind is cursed and condemned in the Lord's court.
|
ਤਾ ਕੈ ਜਾਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਤੀ ਨਾਮ ਲੀਨ ॥
ता कै जाति न पाती नाम लीन ॥
Ŧā kai jāṯ na pāṯī nām līn.
They, who are without the Name, have no caste and honour, and none even cares for their Name.
|
ਸਭਿ ਦੂਖ ਸਖਾਈ ਗੁਣਹ ਬੀਨ ॥੩॥
सभि दूख सखाई गुणह बीन ॥३॥
Sabẖ ḏūkẖ sakẖā▫ī guṇah bīn. ||3||
All the sufferings become the comrades of those who are bereft of virtues.
|
ਮਨੁ ਚਲੈ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਾਖੁ ॥
मनु चलै न जाई ठाकि राखु ॥
Man cẖalai na jā▫ī ṯẖāk rākẖ.
The mind wanders and can be stopped and restrained not.
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਰਾਤੇ ਪਤਿ ਨ ਸਾਖੁ ॥
बिनु हरि रस राते पति न साखु ॥
Bin har ras rāṯe paṯ na sākẖ.
Without being imbued with the God's elixir, it has no honour and credit.
|
ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਸੁਰਤਾ ਆਪਿ ਰਾਖੁ ॥
तू आपे सुरता आपि राखु ॥
Ŧū āpe surṯā āp rākẖ.
Thou, O Lord, Thyself are the Listener and Thyself the Protector.
|
ਧਰਿ ਧਾਰਣ ਦੇਖੈ ਜਾਣੈ ਆਪਿ ॥੪॥
धरि धारण देखै जाणै आपि ॥४॥
Ḏẖar ḏẖāraṇ ḏekẖai jāṇai āp. ||4||
Upholding the earth, Thou Thyself behold and understand it.
|
ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ਕਿਸੁ ਕਹਉ ਜਾਇ ॥
आपि भुलाए किसु कहउ जाइ ॥
Āp bẖulā▫e kis kaha▫o jā▫e.
When Thou Thyself strayest me, to whom should I go to complain.
|
ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਕਹਉ ਮਾਇ ॥
गुरु मेले बिरथा कहउ माइ ॥
Gur mele birthā kaha▫o mā▫e.
If Thou make me meet my Guru; to him I will tell my mind's pain, O mother.
|
ਅਵਗਣ ਛੋਡਉ ਗੁਣ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
अवगण छोडउ गुण कमाइ ॥
Avgaṇ cẖẖoda▫o guṇ kamā▫e.
Abandoning sin, I have practised recitation of Thy virtues,
|
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਰਾਤਾ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੫॥
गुर सबदी राता सचि समाइ ॥५॥
Gur sabḏī rāṯā sacẖ samā▫e. ||5||
and being imbued with the Guru's word I am absorbed in the True Lord.
|
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਮਤਿ ਊਤਮ ਹੋਇ ॥
सतिगुर मिलिऐ मति ऊतम होइ ॥
Saṯgur mili▫ai maṯ ūṯam ho▫e.
Meeting with the True Guru, man's intellect becomes sublime,
|
ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਢੈ ਧੋਇ ॥
मनु निरमलु हउमै कढै धोइ ॥
Man nirmal ha▫umai kadẖai ḏẖo▫e.
his mind is rendered immaculate and his ego is washed off.
|
ਸਦਾ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਬੰਧਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
सदा मुकतु बंधि न सकै कोइ ॥
Saḏā mukaṯ banḏẖ na sakai ko▫e.
He is ever emancipated, and none can bind him.
|
ਸਦਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ਅਉਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੬॥
सदा नामु वखाणै अउरु न कोइ ॥६॥
Saḏā nām vakẖāṇai a▫or na ko▫e. ||6||
He ever utters the Name and naught else.
|
ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
मनु हरि कै भाणै आवै जाइ ॥
Man har kai bẖāṇai āvai jā▫e.
Man comes and goes in the God's will.
|
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਏਕੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
सभ महि एको किछु कहणु न जाइ ॥
Sabẖ mėh eko kicẖẖ kahaṇ na jā▫e.
The One Lord is contained amongst all.
|
ਸਭੁ ਹੁਕਮੋ ਵਰਤੈ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
सभु हुकमो वरतै हुकमि समाइ ॥
Sabẖ hukmo varṯai hukam samā▫e.
His writ runs over all, and everyone merges in His will.
|
ਦੂਖ ਸੂਖ ਸਭ ਤਿਸੁ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੭॥
दूख सूख सभ तिसु रजाइ ॥७॥
Ḏūkẖ sūkẖ sabẖ ṯis rajā▫e. ||7||
Pain and pleasure are all in His will.
|
ਤੂ ਅਭੁਲੁ ਨ ਭੂਲੌ ਕਦੇ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
तू अभुलु न भूलौ कदे नाहि ॥
Ŧū abẖul na bẖūlou kaḏe nāhi.
Thou are infallible, no, Thou make no error ever.
|
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਏ ਮਤਿ ਅਗਾਹਿ ॥
गुर सबदु सुणाए मति अगाहि ॥
Gur sabaḏ suṇā▫e maṯ agāhi.
They, who hear the Guru's word, unfathomable becomes their intellect.
|
ਤੂ ਮੋਟਉ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਸਬਦ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
तू मोटउ ठाकुरु सबद माहि ॥
Ŧū mota▫o ṯẖākur sabaḏ māhi.
Thou, O Great Lord, are contained in the Guru's word.
|
ਮਨੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਸਚੁ ਸਲਾਹਿ ॥੮॥੨॥
मनु नानक मानिआ सचु सलाहि ॥८॥२॥
Man Nānak māni▫ā sacẖ salāhi. ||8||2||
Praising the True Lord, Nanak's mind is pleased.
|
ਬਸੰਤੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥
बसंतु महला १ ॥
Basanṯ mėhlā 1.
Basant 1st Guru.
|
ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀ ਪਿਆਸ ਜਿਸੁ ਨਰ ਹੋਇ ॥
दरसन की पिआस जिसु नर होइ ॥
Ḏarsan kī pi▫ās jis nar ho▫e.
The one who longs for the Lord's vision;
|
ਏਕਤੁ ਰਾਚੈ ਪਰਹਰਿ ਦੋਇ ॥
एकतु राचै परहरि दोइ ॥
Ėkaṯ rācẖai parhar ḏo▫e.
he merges in the One alone and discards duality.
|
ਦੂਰਿ ਦਰਦੁ ਮਥਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਖਾਇ ॥
दूरि दरदु मथि अम्रितु खाइ ॥
Ḏūr ḏaraḏ math amriṯ kẖā▫e.
He churns the God's elixir for his feed, and his pain is dispelled.
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਏਕ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥
गुरमुखि बूझै एक समाइ ॥१॥
Gurmukẖ būjẖai ek samā▫e. ||1||
He knows by the Guru's grace, and merges in the One Lord.
|
ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਉ ਕੇਤੀ ਬਿਲਲਾਇ ॥
तेरे दरसन कउ केती बिललाइ ॥
Ŧere ḏarsan ka▫o keṯī billā▫e.
Good many men wail for Thy vision, O Lord.
|
ਵਿਰਲਾ ਕੋ ਚੀਨਸਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
विरला को चीनसि गुर सबदि मिलाइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
virlā ko cẖīnas gur sabaḏ milā▫e. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Through the Guru's word, some rare one realises the Lord and blends with Him. Pause.
|
ਬੇਦ ਵਖਾਣਿ ਕਹਹਿ ਇਕੁ ਕਹੀਐ ॥
बेद वखाणि कहहि इकु कहीऐ ॥
Beḏ vakẖāṇ kahėh ik kahī▫ai.
The Vedas narrate and say, that one should utter the One Lord's Name.
|
ਓਹੁ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ਅੰਤੁ ਕਿਨਿ ਲਹੀਐ ॥
ओहु बेअंतु अंतु किनि लहीऐ ॥
Oh be▫anṯ anṯ kin lahī▫ai.
He is Illimitable, who can find His limit?
|
ਏਕੋ ਕਰਤਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਗੁ ਕੀਆ ॥
एको करता जिनि जगु कीआ ॥
Ėko karṯā jin jag kī▫ā.
There is but One Creator, who has created the world.
|
ਬਾਝੁ ਕਲਾ ਧਰਿ ਗਗਨੁ ਧਰੀਆ ॥੨॥
बाझु कला धरि गगनु धरीआ ॥२॥
Bājẖ kalā ḏẖar gagan ḏẖarī▫ā. ||2||
without any pillar, He has supported the earth and sky.
|
ਏਕੋ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਧੁਨਿ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
एको गिआनु धिआनु धुनि बाणी ॥
Ėko gi▫ān ḏẖi▫ān ḏẖun baṇī.
The Divine knowledge and realisation is contained in hearing the melody of the Gurbani alone.
|
ਏਕੁ ਨਿਰਾਲਮੁ ਅਕਥ ਕਹਾਣੀ ॥
एकु निरालमु अकथ कहाणी ॥
Ėk nirālam akath kahāṇī.
Immaculate is the One Lord, and ineffable is His Story.
|
ਏਕੋ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਚਾ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥
एको सबदु सचा नीसाणु ॥
Ėko sabaḏ sacẖā nīsāṇ.
The Name alone is the True seal of the Lord's approval.
|
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਜਾਣੁ ॥੩॥
पूरे गुर ते जाणै जाणु ॥३॥
Pūre gur ṯe jāṇai jāṇ. ||3||
It is through the Perfect Guru, that the Wise Lord is known.
|
ਏਕੋ ਧਰਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੈ ਸਚੁ ਕੋਈ ॥
एको धरमु द्रिड़ै सचु कोई ॥
Ėko ḏẖaram ḏariṛai sacẖ ko▫ī.
If some one grasps this thing; there is but one religion of Truth.
|
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪੂਰਾ ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਸੋਈ ॥
गुरमति पूरा जुगि जुगि सोई ॥
Gurmaṯ pūrā jug jug so▫ī.
By the Guru's instruction, the mortal is rendered perfect all the ages through.
|
ਅਨਹਦਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਏਕ ਲਿਵ ਤਾਰ ॥
अनहदि राता एक लिव तार ॥
Anhaḏ rāṯā ek liv ṯār.
One who is imbued with the incessant love of unique Limitless Lord;
|
ਓਹੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਅਲਖ ਅਪਾਰ ॥੪॥
ओहु गुरमुखि पावै अलख अपार ॥४॥
Oh gurmukẖ pāvai alakẖ apār. ||4||
by the Guru's grace, he attains unto the Unseeable and Infinite Lord.
|
ਏਕੋ ਤਖਤੁ ਏਕੋ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ॥
एको तखतु एको पातिसाहु ॥
Ėko ṯakẖaṯ eko pāṯisāhu.
There is but One Throne and One King.
|
ਸਰਬੀ ਥਾਈ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ॥
सरबी थाई वेपरवाहु ॥
Sarbī thā▫ī veparvāhu.
The Absolute Lord is contained in all places.
|
ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਕੀਆ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
तिस का कीआ त्रिभवण सारु ॥
Ŧis kā kī▫ā ṯaribẖavaṇ sār.
The three worlds are creation of that sublime Lord.
|
ਓਹੁ ਅਗਮੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਏਕੰਕਾਰੁ ॥੫॥
ओहु अगमु अगोचरु एकंकारु ॥५॥
Oh agam agocẖar ekankār. ||5||
He, the Formless Lord is inaccessible and Inapprehensible.
|
ਏਕਾ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਨਾਉ ॥
एका मूरति साचा नाउ ॥
Ėkā mūraṯ sācẖā nā▫o.
True is the Name of the unique personality.
|
ਤਿਥੈ ਨਿਬੜੈ ਸਾਚੁ ਨਿਆਉ ॥
तिथै निबड़ै साचु निआउ ॥
Ŧithai nibṛai sācẖ ni▫ā▫o.
True justice is administered there.
|
ਸਾਚੀ ਕਰਣੀ ਪਤਿ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
साची करणी पति परवाणु ॥
Sācẖī karṇī paṯ parvāṇ.
They, who practice truth obtain honour and become acceptable,
|
ਸਾਚੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਾਵੈ ਮਾਣੁ ॥੬॥
साची दरगह पावै माणु ॥६॥
Sācẖī ḏargėh pāvai māṇ. ||6||
They are blessed with glory in the True court.
|
ਏਕਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਏਕੋ ਹੈ ਭਾਉ ॥
एका भगति एको है भाउ ॥
Ėkā bẖagaṯ eko hai bẖā▫o.
True is the devotion of One Lord, and true His love alone.
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਭੈ ਭਗਤੀ ਆਵਉ ਜਾਉ ॥
बिनु भै भगती आवउ जाउ ॥
Bin bẖai bẖagṯī āva▫o jā▫o.
Without the Lord's fear and devotional service one comes and goes.
|
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸਮਝਿ ਰਹੈ ਮਿਹਮਾਣੁ ॥
गुर ते समझि रहै मिहमाणु ॥
Gur ṯe samajẖ rahai mihmāṇ.
He who obtains understanding from the Guru, he bides like a guest in the world.
