ਜਾਮਿ ਭੀਜੈ ਸਾਚ ਨਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
जामि न भीजै साच नाइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Jām na bẖījai sācẖ nā▫e. ||1|| rahā▫o.
if you are not drenched with the True Name. ||1||Pause||

ਦਸ ਅਠ ਲੀਖੇ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਪਾਸਿ
दस अठ लीखे होवहि पासि ॥
Ḏas aṯẖ līkẖe hovėh pās.
One may have the eighteen Puraanas written in his own hand;

ਚਾਰੇ ਬੇਦ ਮੁਖਾਗਰ ਪਾਠਿ
चारे बेद मुखागर पाठि ॥
Cẖāre beḏ mukẖāgar pāṯẖ.
he may recite the four Vedas by heart,

ਪੁਰਬੀ ਨਾਵੈ ਵਰਨਾਂ ਕੀ ਦਾਤਿ
पुरबी नावै वरनां की दाति ॥
Purbī nāvai varnāʼn kī ḏāṯ.
and take ritual baths at holy festivals and give charitable donations;

ਵਰਤ ਨੇਮ ਕਰੇ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤਿ ॥੨॥
वरत नेम करे दिन राति ॥२॥
varaṯ nem kare ḏin rāṯ. ||2||
he may observe the ritual fasts, and perform religious ceremonies day and night. ||2||

ਕਾਜੀ ਮੁਲਾਂ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਸੇਖ
काजी मुलां होवहि सेख ॥
Kājī mulāʼn hovėh sekẖ.
He may be a Qazi, a Mullah or a Shaykh,

ਜੋਗੀ ਜੰਗਮ ਭਗਵੇ ਭੇਖ
जोगी जंगम भगवे भेख ॥
Jogī jangam bẖagve bẖekẖ.
a Yogi or a wandering hermit wearing saffron-colored robes;

ਕੋ ਗਿਰਹੀ ਕਰਮਾ ਕੀ ਸੰਧਿ
को गिरही करमा की संधि ॥
Ko girhī karmā kī sanḏẖ.
he may be a householder, working at his job;

ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਸਭ ਖੜੀਅਸਿ ਬੰਧਿ ॥੩॥
बिनु बूझे सभ खड़ीअसि बंधि ॥३॥
Bin būjẖe sabẖ kẖaṛī▫as banḏẖ. ||3||
but without understanding the essence of devotional worship, all people are eventually bound and gagged, and driven along by the Messenger of Death. ||3||

ਜੇਤੇ ਜੀਅ ਲਿਖੀ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਾਰ
जेते जीअ लिखी सिरि कार ॥
Jeṯe jī▫a likẖī sir kār.
Each person's karma is written on his forehead.

ਕਰਣੀ ਉਪਰਿ ਹੋਵਗਿ ਸਾਰ
करणी उपरि होवगि सार ॥
Karṇī upar hovag sār.
According to their deeds, they shall be judged.

ਹੁਕਮੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਮੂਰਖ ਗਾਵਾਰ
हुकमु करहि मूरख गावार ॥
Hukam karahi mūrakẖ gāvār.
Only the foolish and the ignorant issue commands.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚੇ ਕੇ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥੪॥੩॥
नानक साचे के सिफति भंडार ॥४॥३॥
Nānak sācẖe ke sifaṯ bẖandār. ||4||3||
O Nanak, the treasure of praise belongs to the True Lord alone. ||4||3||

ਬਸੰਤੁ ਮਹਲਾ ਤੀਜਾ
बसंतु महला ३ तीजा ॥
Basanṯ mėhlā 3 ṯījā.
Basant, Third Mehl:

ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਉਤਾਰਿ ਦਿਗੰਬਰੁ ਹੋਗੁ
बसत्र उतारि दिग्मबरु होगु ॥
Basṯar uṯār ḏigambar hog.
A person may take off his clothes and be naked.

ਜਟਾਧਾਰਿ ਕਿਆ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਜੋਗੁ
जटाधारि किआ कमावै जोगु ॥
Jatāḏẖār ki▫ā kamāvai jog.
What Yoga does he practice by having matted and tangled hair?

ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਹੀ ਦਸਵੈ ਦੁਆਰ
मनु निरमलु नही दसवै दुआर ॥
Man nirmal nahī ḏasvai ḏu▫ār.
If the mind is not pure, what use is it to hold the breath at the Tenth Gate?

ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਆਵੈ ਮੂੜ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰ ॥੧॥
भ्रमि भ्रमि आवै मूड़्हा वारो वार ॥१॥
Bẖaram bẖaram āvai mūṛĥā vāro vār. ||1||
The fool wanders and wanders, entering the cycle of reincarnation again and again. ||1||

ਏਕੁ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਮੂੜ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਮਨਾ
एकु धिआवहु मूड़्ह मना ॥
Ėk ḏẖi▫āvahu mūṛĥ manā.
Meditate on the One Lord, O my foolish mind,

ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਰਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਇਕ ਖਿਨਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
पारि उतरि जाहि इक खिनां ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Pār uṯar jāhi ik kẖināʼn. ||1|| rahā▫o.
and you shall cross over to the other side in an instant. ||1||Pause||

ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਕਰਹਿ ਵਖਿਆਣ
सिम्रिति सासत्र करहि वखिआण ॥
Simriṯ sāsṯar karahi vakẖi▫āṇ.
Some recite and expound on the Simritees and the Shaastras;

ਨਾਦੀ ਬੇਦੀ ਪੜ੍ਹ੍ਹਹਿ ਪੁਰਾਣ
नादी बेदी पड़्हहि पुराण ॥
Nāḏī beḏī paṛĥahi purāṇ.
some sing the Vedas and read the Puraanas;

ਪਾਖੰਡ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਮਨਿ ਕਪਟੁ ਕਮਾਹਿ
पाखंड द्रिसटि मनि कपटु कमाहि ॥
Pakẖand ḏarisat man kapat kamāhi.
but they practice hypocrisy and deception with their eyes and minds.

ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਰਮਈਆ ਨੇੜਿ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੨॥
तिन कै रमईआ नेड़ि नाहि ॥२॥
Ŧin kai rama▫ī▫ā neṛ nāhi. ||2||
The Lord does not even come near them. ||2||

ਜੇ ਕੋ ਐਸਾ ਸੰਜਮੀ ਹੋਇ
जे को ऐसा संजमी होइ ॥
Je ko aisā sanjmī ho▫e.
Even if someone practices such self-discipline,

ਕ੍ਰਿਆ ਵਿਸੇਖ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰੇਇ
क्रिआ विसेख पूजा करेइ ॥
Kir▫ā visekẖ pūjā kare▫i.
compassion and devotional worship -

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਮਨੁ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਮਾਹਿ
अंतरि लोभु मनु बिखिआ माहि ॥
Anṯar lobẖ man bikẖi▫ā māhi.
if he is filled with greed, and his mind is engrossed in corruption,

ਓਇ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਕੈਸੇ ਪਾਹਿ ॥੩॥
ओइ निरंजनु कैसे पाहि ॥३॥
O▫e niranjan kaise pāhi. ||3||
how can he find the Immaculate Lord? ||3||

ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਆ ਕਰੇ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਇ
कीता होआ करे किआ होइ ॥
Kīṯā ho▫ā kare ki▫ā ho▫e.
What can the created being do?

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪਿ ਚਲਾਏ ਸੋਇ
जिस नो आपि चलाए सोइ ॥
Jis no āp cẖalā▫e so▫e.
The Lord Himself moves him.

ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਏ
नदरि करे तां भरमु चुकाए ॥
Naḏar kare ṯāʼn bẖaram cẖukā▫e.
If the Lord casts His Glance of Grace, then his doubts are dispelled.

ਹੁਕਮੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਚਾ ਪਾਏ ॥੪॥
हुकमै बूझै तां साचा पाए ॥४॥
Hukmai būjẖai ṯāʼn sācẖā pā▫e. ||4||
If the mortal realizes the Hukam of the Lord's Command, he obtains the True Lord. ||4||

ਜਿਸੁ ਜੀਉ ਅੰਤਰੁ ਮੈਲਾ ਹੋਇ
जिसु जीउ अंतरु मैला होइ ॥
Jis jī▫o anṯar mailā ho▫e.
If someone's soul is polluted within,

ਤੀਰਥ ਭਵੈ ਦਿਸੰਤਰ ਲੋਇ
तीरथ भवै दिसंतर लोइ ॥
Ŧirath bẖavai disanṯar lo▫e.
what is the use of his traveling to sacred shrines of pilgrimage all over the world?

ਨਾਨਕ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੰਗ
नानक मिलीऐ सतिगुर संग ॥
Nānak milī▫ai saṯgur sang.
O Nanak, when one joins the Society of the True Guru,

ਤਉ ਭਵਜਲ ਕੇ ਤੂਟਸਿ ਬੰਧ ॥੫॥੪॥
तउ भवजल के तूटसि बंध ॥५॥४॥
Ŧa▫o bẖavjal ke ṯūtas banḏẖ. ||5||4||
then the bonds of the terrifying world-ocean are broken. ||5||4||

ਬਸੰਤੁ ਮਹਲਾ
बसंतु महला १ ॥
Basanṯ mėhlā 1.
Basant, First Mehl:

ਸਗਲ ਭਵਨ ਤੇਰੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ
सगल भवन तेरी माइआ मोह ॥
Sagal bẖavan ṯerī mā▫i▫ā moh.
All the worlds have been fascinated and enchanted by Your Maya, O Lord.

ਮੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਦੀਸੈ ਸਰਬ ਤੋਹ
मै अवरु न दीसै सरब तोह ॥
Mai avar na ḏīsai sarab ṯoh.
I do not see any other at all - You are everywhere.

ਤੂ ਸੁਰਿ ਨਾਥਾ ਦੇਵਾ ਦੇਵ
तू सुरि नाथा देवा देव ॥
Ŧū sur nāthā ḏevā ḏev.
You are the Master of Yogis, the Divinity of the divine.

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨ ਸੇਵ ॥੧॥
हरि नामु मिलै गुर चरन सेव ॥१॥
Har nām milai gur cẖaran sev. ||1||
Serving at the Guru's Feet, the Name of the Lord is received. ||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਲਾਲ
मेरे सुंदर गहिर ग्मभीर लाल ॥
Mere sunḏar gahir gambẖīr lāl.
O my Beauteous, Deep and Profound Beloved Lord.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਏ ਤੂ ਅਪਰੰਪਰੁ ਸਰਬ ਪਾਲ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
गुरमुखि राम नाम गुन गाए तू अपर्मपरु सरब पाल ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Gurmukẖ rām nām gun gā▫e ṯū aprampar sarab pāl. ||1|| rahā▫o.
As Gurmukh, I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord's Name. You are Infinite, the Cherisher of all. ||1||Pause||

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਾਧ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਸੰਗੁ
बिनु साध न पाईऐ हरि का संगु ॥
Bin sāḏẖ na pā▫ī▫ai har kā sang.
Without the Holy Saint, association with the Lord is not obtained.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮੈਲ ਮਲੀਨ ਅੰਗੁ
बिनु गुर मैल मलीन अंगु ॥
Bin gur mail malīn ang.
Without the Guru, one's very fiber is stained with filth.

ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਧੁ ਹੋਇ
बिनु हरि नाम न सुधु होइ ॥
Bin har nām na suḏẖ ho▫e.
Without the Lord's Name, one cannot become pure.

ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਲਾਹੇ ਸਾਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੨॥
गुर सबदि सलाहे साचु सोइ ॥२॥
Gur sabaḏ salāhe sācẖ so▫e. ||2||
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, sing the Praises of the True Lord. ||2||

ਜਾ ਕਉ ਤੂ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਰਖਨਹਾਰ
जा कउ तू राखहि रखनहार ॥
Jā ka▫o ṯū rākẖahi rakẖaṇhār.
O Savior Lord, that person whom You have saved-

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਵਹਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਸਾਰ
सतिगुरू मिलावहि करहि सार ॥
Saṯgurū milāvėh karahi sār.
You lead him to meet the True Guru, and so take care of him.

ਬਿਖੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਮਤਾ ਪਰਹਰਾਇ
बिखु हउमै ममता परहराइ ॥
Bikẖ ha▫umai mamṯā parahrā▫e.
You take away his poisonous egotism and attachment.

ਸਭਿ ਦੂਖ ਬਿਨਾਸੇ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਇ ॥੩॥
सभि दूख बिनासे राम राइ ॥३॥
Sabẖ ḏūkẖ bināse rām rā▫e. ||3||
You dispel all his sufferings, O Sovereign Lord God. ||3||

ਊਤਮ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਸਰੀਰ
ऊतम गति मिति हरि गुन सरीर ॥
Ūṯam gaṯ miṯ har gun sarīr.
His state and condition are sublime; the Lord's Glorious Virtues permeate his body.

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੇ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਹੀਰ
गुरमति प्रगटे राम नाम हीर ॥
Gurmaṯ pargate rām nām hīr.
Through the Word of the Guru's Teachings, the diamond of the Lord's Name is revealed.

ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ਨਾਮਿ ਤਜਿ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ
लिव लागी नामि तजि दूजा भाउ ॥
Liv lāgī nām ṯaj ḏūjā bẖā▫o.
He is lovingly attuned to the Naam; he is rid of the love of duality.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਾਉ ॥੪॥੫॥
जन नानक हरि गुरु गुर मिलाउ ॥४॥५॥
Jan Nānak har gur gur milā▫o. ||4||5||
O Lord, let servant Nanak meet the Guru. ||4||5||

ਬਸੰਤੁ ਮਹਲਾ
बसंतु महला १ ॥
Basanṯ mėhlā 1.
Basant, First Mehl:

ਮੇਰੀ ਸਖੀ ਸਹੇਲੀ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਭਾਇ
मेरी सखी सहेली सुनहु भाइ ॥
Merī sakẖī sahelī sunhu bẖā▫e.
O my friends and companions, listen with love in your heart.

ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਰੀਸਾਲੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਾਇ
मेरा पिरु रीसालू संगि साइ ॥
Merā pir rīsālū sang sā▫e.
My Husband Lord is Incomparably Beautiful; He is always with me.

ਓਹੁ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖੀਐ ਕਹਹੁ ਕਾਇ
ओहु अलखु न लखीऐ कहहु काइ ॥
Oh alakẖ na lakẖī▫ai kahhu kā▫e.
He is Unseen - He cannot be seen. How can I describe Him?
