ਮੂਲ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਾਖਾ ਕਤ ਆਹੈ ॥੧॥
मूल बिना साखा कत आहै ॥१॥
Mūl binā sākẖā kaṯ āhai. ||1||
but without roots, how can there be any branches? ||1||
|
ਗੁਰੁ ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਧਿਆਇ ॥
गुरु गोविंदु मेरे मन धिआइ ॥
Gur govinḏ mere man ḏẖi▫ā▫e.
O my mind! Meditate on the Guru, the Lord of the Universe.

ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੀ ਮੈਲੁ ਉਤਾਰੈ ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਟਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
जनम जनम की मैलु उतारै बंधन काटि हरि संगि मिलाइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Janam janam kī mail uṯārai banḏẖan kāt har sang milā▫e. ||1|| rahā▫o.
The filth of countless incarnations shall be washed away. Breaking your bonds, you shall be united with the Lord. ||1||Pause||
|
ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਇ ਕਹਾ ਸੁਚਿ ਸੈਲੁ ॥
तीरथि नाइ कहा सुचि सैलु ॥
Ŧirath nā▫e kahā sucẖ sail.
How can a stone be purified by bathing at a sacred shrine of pilgrimage?

ਮਨ ਕਉ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ॥
मन कउ विआपै हउमै मैलु ॥
Man ka▫o vi▫āpai ha▫umai mail.
The filth of egotism clings to the mind.
|
ਕੋਟਿ ਕਰਮ ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾ ਮੂਲੁ ॥
कोटि करम बंधन का मूलु ॥
Kot karam banḏẖan kā mūl.
Millions of rituals and actions taken are the root of entanglements.
|
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਭਜਨ ਬਿਨੁ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਪੂਲੁ ॥੨॥
हरि के भजन बिनु बिरथा पूलु ॥२॥
Har ke bẖajan bin birthā pūl. ||2||
Without meditating and vibrating on the Lord, the mortal gathers only worthless bundles of straw. ||2||
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਖਾਏ ਬੂਝੈ ਨਹੀ ਭੂਖ ॥
बिनु खाए बूझै नही भूख ॥
Bin kẖā▫e būjẖai nahī bẖūkẖ.
Without eating, hunger is not satisfied.
|
ਰੋਗੁ ਜਾਇ ਤਾਂ ਉਤਰਹਿ ਦੂਖ ॥
रोगु जाइ तां उतरहि दूख ॥
Rog jā▫e ṯāʼn uṯrėh ḏūkẖ.
When the disease is cured, then the pain goes away.
|
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹਿ ਬਿਆਪਿਆ ॥
काम क्रोध लोभ मोहि बिआपिआ ॥
Kām kroḏẖ lobẖ mohi bi▫āpi▫ā.
The mortal is engrossed in sexual desire, anger, greed and attachment.
|
ਜਿਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕੀਨਾ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਪਿਆ ॥੩॥
जिनि प्रभि कीना सो प्रभु नही जापिआ ॥३॥
Jin parabẖ kīnā so parabẖ nahī jāpi▫ā. ||3||
He does not meditate on God, that God who created him. ||3||
|
ਧਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਸਾਧ ਧੰਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥
धनु धनु साध धंनु हरि नाउ ॥
Ḏẖan ḏẖan sāḏẖ ḏẖan har nā▫o.
Blessed, blessed is the Holy Saint, and blessed is the Name of the Lord.

ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ॥
आठ पहर कीरतनु गुण गाउ ॥
Āṯẖ pahar kīrṯan guṇ gā▫o.
Twenty-four hours a day, sing the Kirtan, the Glorious Praises of the Lord.

ਧਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਧਨੁ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰ ॥
धनु हरि भगति धनु करणैहार ॥
Ḏẖan har bẖagaṯ ḏẖan karṇaihār.
Blessed is the devotee of the Lord, and blessed is the Creator Lord.

ਸਰਣਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪੁਰਖ ਅਪਾਰ ॥੪॥੩੨॥੪੫॥
सरणि नानक प्रभ पुरख अपार ॥४॥३२॥४५॥
Saraṇ Nānak parabẖ purakẖ apār. ||4||32||45||
Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of God, the Primal, the Infinite. ||4||32||45||

भैरउ महला ५ ॥

Bhairao, Fifth Mehl:

ਗੁਰ ਸੁਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋਏ ਭਉ ਗਏ ॥
गुर सुप्रसंन होए भउ गए ॥
Gur suparsan ho▫e bẖa▫o ga▫e.
When the Guru was totally pleased, my fear was taken away.
|
ਨਾਮ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਲਏ ॥
नाम निरंजन मन महि लए ॥
Nām niranjan man mėh la▫e.
I enshrine the Name of the Immaculate Lord within my mind.
|
ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਸਦਾ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ॥
दीन दइआल सदा किरपाल ॥
Ḏīn ḏa▫i▫āl saḏā kirpāl.
He is Merciful to the meek, forever Compassionate.
|
ਬਿਨਸਿ ਗਏ ਸਗਲੇ ਜੰਜਾਲ ॥੧॥
बिनसि गए सगले जंजाल ॥१॥
Binas ga▫e sagle janjāl. ||1||
All my entanglements are finished. ||1||
|
ਸੂਖ ਸਹਜ ਆਨੰਦ ਘਨੇ ॥
सूख सहज आनंद घने ॥
Sūkẖ sahj ānanḏ gẖane.
I have found peace, poise, and myriads of pleasures.
|
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਟੇ ਭੈ ਭਰਮਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਨ ਭਨੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
साधसंगि मिटे भै भरमा अमृतु हरि हरि रसन भने ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Sāḏẖsang mite bẖai bẖarmā amriṯ har har rasan bẖane. ||1|| rahā▫o.
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, fear and doubt are dispelled. My tongue chants the Ambrosial Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1||Pause||
|
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗੋ ਹੇਤੁ ॥
चरन कमल सिउ लागो हेतु ॥
Cẖaran kamal si▫o lāgo heṯ.
I have fallen in love with the Lord’s Lotus Feet.
|
ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਬਿਨਸਿਓ ਮਹਾ ਪਰੇਤੁ ॥
खिन महि बिनसिओ महा परेतु ॥
Kẖin mėh binsi▫o mahā pareṯ.
In an instant, the terrible demons are destroyed.
|
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੁ ਜਾਪਿ ॥
आठ पहर हरि हरि जपु जापि ॥
Āṯẖ pahar har har jap jāp.
Twenty-four hours a day, I meditate and chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.

ਰਾਖਨਹਾਰ ਗੋਵਿਦ ਗੁਰ ਆਪਿ ॥੨॥
राखनहार गोविद गुर आपि ॥२॥
Rākẖanhār goviḏ gur āp. ||2||
The Guru is Himself the Savior Lord, the Lord of the Universe. ||2||
|
ਅਪਨੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਕਉ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਰੈ ॥
अपने सेवक कउ सदा प्रतिपारै ॥
Apne sevak ka▫o saḏā parṯipārai.
He Himself cherishes His servant forever.
|
ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੇ ਸਾਸ ਨਿਹਾਰੈ ॥
भगत जना के सास निहारै ॥
Bẖagaṯ janā ke sās nihārai.
He watches over every breath of His humble devotee.
|
ਮਾਨਸ ਕੀ ਕਹੁ ਕੇਤਕ ਬਾਤ ॥
मानस की कहु केतक बात ॥
Mānas kī kaho keṯak bāṯ.
Tell me, what is the nature of human beings?
|
ਜਮ ਤੇ ਰਾਖੈ ਦੇ ਕਰਿ ਹਾਥ ॥੩॥
जम ते राखै दे करि हाथ ॥३॥
Jam ṯe rākẖai ḏe kar hāth. ||3||
The Lord extends His Hand, and saves them from the Messenger of Death. ||3||
|
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸੋਭਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਰੀਤਿ ॥
निरमल सोभा निरमल रीति ॥
Nirmal sobẖā nirmal rīṯ.
Immaculate is the Glory, and Immaculate is the way of life,
|
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਆਇਆ ਮਨਿ ਚੀਤਿ ॥
पारब्रहमु आइआ मनि चीति ॥
Pārbarahm ā▫i▫ā man cẖīṯ.
of those who remember the Supreme Lord God in their minds.
|
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਨੋ ਦਾਨੁ ॥
करि किरपा गुरि दीनो दानु ॥
Kar kirpā gur ḏīno ḏān.
The Guru, in His Mercy, has granted this Gift.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥੪॥੩੩॥੪੬॥
नानक पाइआ नामु निधानु ॥४॥३३॥४६॥
Nānak pā▫i▫ā nām niḏẖān. ||4||33||46||
Nanak has obtained the treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||4||33||46||

ਭੈਰਉ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
भैरउ महला ५ ॥

Bhairao, Fifth Mehl:

ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
करण कारण समरथु गुरु मेरा ॥
Karaṇ kāraṇ samrath gur merā.
My Guru is the All-powerful Lord, the Creator, the Cause of all causes.
|
ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਨੇਰਾ ॥
जीअ प्राण सुखदाता नेरा ॥
Jī▫a parāṇ sukẖ▫ḏāṯa nerā.
He is the Soul, the Breath of Life, the Giver of Peace, always near.
|
ਭੈ ਭੰਜਨ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਰਾਇ ॥
भै भंजन अबिनासी राइ ॥
Bẖai bẖanjan abẖināsī rā▫e.
He is the Destroyer of fear, the Eternal, Unchanging, Sovereign Lord King.
|
ਦਰਸਨਿ ਦੇਖਿਐ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
दरसनि देखिऐ सभु दुखु जाइ ॥१॥
Ḏarsan ḏekẖi▫ai sabẖ ḏukẖ jā▫e. ||1||
Gazing upon the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, all fear is dispelled. ||1||
|
ਜਤ ਕਤ ਪੇਖਉ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾ ॥
जत कत पेखउ तेरी सरणा ॥
Jaṯ kaṯ pekẖa▫o ṯerī sarṇā.
Wherever I look, is the Protection of Your Sanctuary.
|
ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਚਰਣਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
बलि बलि जाई सतिगुर चरणा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Bal bal jā▫ī saṯgur cẖarṇā. ||1|| rahā▫o.
I am a sacrifice, a sacrifice to the Feet of the True Guru. ||1||Pause||
|
ਪੂਰਨ ਕਾਮ ਮਿਲੇ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ॥
पूरन काम मिले गुरदेव ॥
Pūran kām mile gurḏev.
My tasks are perfectly accomplished, meeting the Divine Guru.
|
ਸਭਿ ਫਲਦਾਤਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸੇਵ ॥
सभि फलदाता निरमल सेव ॥
Sabẖ falḏāṯā nirmal sev.
He is the Giver of all rewards. Serving Him, I am immaculate.
|
ਕਰੁ ਗਹਿ ਲੀਨੇ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਦਾਸ ॥
करु गहि लीने अपुने दास ॥
Kar gėh līne apune ḏās.
He reaches out with His Hand to His slaves.
|
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦ ਦੀਓ ਨਿਵਾਸ ॥੨॥
राम नामु रिद दीओ निवास ॥२॥
Rām nām riḏ ḏī▫o nivās. ||2||
The Name of the Lord abides in their hearts. ||2||
|
ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੋਗੁ ॥
सदा अनंदु नाही किछु सोगु ॥
Saḏā anand nāhī kicẖẖ sog.
They are forever in bliss, and do not suffer at all.
|
ਦੂਖੁ ਦਰਦੁ ਨਹ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਰੋਗੁ ॥
दूखु दरदु नह बिआपै रोगु ॥
Ḏūkẖ ḏaraḏ nah bi▫āpai rog.
No pain, sorrow or disease afflicts them.
|
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਤੂ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰੁ ॥
सभु किछु तेरा तू करणैहारु ॥
Sabẖ kicẖẖ ṯerā ṯū karṇaihār.
Everything is Yours, O Creator Lord.

ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗੁਰ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰ ॥੩॥
पारब्रहम गुर अगम अपार ॥३॥
Pārbarahm gur agam apār. ||3||
The Guru is the Supreme Lord God, the Inaccessible and Infinite. ||3||
|
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸੋਭਾ ਅਚਰਜ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
निरमल सोभा अचरज बाणी ॥
Nirmal sobẖā acẖraj baṇī.
His Glorious Grandeur is immaculate, and the Bani of His Word is wonderful!

ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪੂਰਨ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਣੀ ॥
पारब्रहम पूरन मनि भाणी ॥
Pārbarahm pūran man bẖāṇī.
The Perfect Supreme Lord God is pleasing to my mind.

ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਰਵਿਆ ਸੋਇ ॥
जलि थलि महीअलि रविआ सोइ ॥
Jal thal mahī▫al ravi▫ā so▫e.
He is permeating the waters, the lands and the skies.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੩੪॥੪੭॥
नानक सभु किछु प्रभ ते होइ ॥४॥३४॥४७॥
Nānak sabẖ kicẖẖ parabẖ ṯe ho▫e. ||4||34||47||
O Nanak! Everything comes from God. ||4||34||47||

My mind and body are imbued with the Love of the Lord’s Feet.
