ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੈ ॥
करमु होवै गुरु किरपा करै ॥
Karam hovai gur kirpā karai.
When the mortal has good karma, the Guru grants His Grace.

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਜਾਗੈ ਇਸੁ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਮਰੈ ॥੪॥
इहु मनु जागै इसु मन की दुबिधा मरै ॥४॥
Ih man jāgai is man kī ḏubiḏẖā marai. ||4||
Then this mind is awakened, and the duality of this mind is subdued. ||4||
|
ਮਨ ਕਾ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਸਦਾ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ॥
मन का सुभाउ सदा बैरागी ॥
Man kā subẖā▫o saḏā bairāgī.
It is the innate nature of the mind to remain forever detached.
|
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਵਸੈ ਅਤੀਤੁ ਅਨਰਾਗੀ ॥੫॥
सभ महि वसै अतीतु अनरागी ॥५॥
Sabẖ mėh vasai aṯīṯ anrāgī. ||5||
The Detached, Dispassionate Lord dwells within all. ||5||
|
ਕਹਤ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜੋ ਜਾਣੈ ਭੇਉ ॥
कहत नानकु जो जाणै भेउ ॥
Kahaṯ Nānak jo jāṇai bẖe▫o.
Says Nanak, one who understands this mystery,
|
ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਦੇਉ ॥੬॥੫॥
आदि पुरखु निरंजन देउ ॥६॥५॥
Āḏ purakẖ niranjan ḏe▫o. ||6||5||
becomes the embodiment of the Primal, Immaculate, Divine Lord God. ||6||5||

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਗਤ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ॥
राम नामु जगत निसतारा ॥
Rām nām jagaṯ nisṯārā.
The world is saved through Name of the Lord.
|
ਭਵਜਲੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰਣਹਾਰਾ ॥੧॥
भवजलु पारि उतारणहारा ॥१॥
Bẖavjal pār uṯāraṇhārā. ||1||
It carries the mortal across the terrifying world-ocean. ||1||
|
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਲਿ ॥
गुर परसादी हरि नामु सम्हालि ॥
Gur parsādī har nām samĥāl.
By Guru's Grace, dwell upon the Lord's Name.

ਸਦ ਹੀ ਨਿਬਹੈ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਲਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
सद ही निबहै तेरै नालि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Saḏ hī nibhai ṯerai nāl. ||1|| rahā▫o.
It shall stand by you forever. ||1||Pause||
|
ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਗਾਵਾਰਾ ॥
नामु न चेतहि मनमुख गावारा ॥
Nām na cẖīṯėh manmukẖ gāvārā.
The foolish self-willed manmukhs do not remember the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੈਸੇ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਪਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
बिनु नावै कैसे पावहि पारा ॥२॥
Bin nāvai kaise pāvahi pārā. ||2||
Without the Name, how will they cross over? ||2||
|
ਆਪੇ ਦਾਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ॥
आपे दाति करे दातारु ॥
Āpe ḏāṯ kare ḏāṯār.
The Lord, the Great Giver, Himself gives His Gifts.
|
ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰੇ ਕਉ ਜੈਕਾਰੁ ॥੩॥
देवणहारे कउ जैकारु ॥३॥
Ḏevaṇhāre ka▫o jaikār. ||3||
Celebrate and praise the Great Giver! ||3||
|
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
नदरि करे सतिगुरू मिलाए ॥
Naḏar kare saṯgurū milā▫e.
Granting His Grace, the Lord unites the mortals with the True Guru.

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਾਏ ॥੪॥੬॥
नानक हिरदै नामु वसाए ॥४॥६॥
Nānak hirḏai nām vasā▫e. ||4||6||
O Nanak, the Naam is enshrined within the heart. ||4||6||

ਨਾਮੇ ਉਧਰੇ ਸਭਿ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਲੋਅ ॥
नामे उधरे सभि जितने लोअ ॥
Nāme uḏẖre sabẖ jiṯne lo▫a.
All people are saved through the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਿਨਾ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
गुरमुखि जिना परापति होइ ॥१॥
Gurmukẖ jinā parāpaṯ ho▫e. ||1||
Those who become Gurmukh are blessed to receive It. ||1||
|
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਅਪਣੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
हरि जीउ अपणी क्रिपा करेइ ॥
Har jī▫o apṇī kirpā kare▫i.
When the Dear Lord showers His Mercy,
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੇਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
गुरमुखि नामु वडिआई देइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Gurmukẖ nām vadi▫ā▫ī ḏe▫e. ||1|| rahā▫o.
He blesses the Gurmukh with the glorious greatness of the Naam. ||1||Pause||

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਜਿਨ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
राम नामि जिन प्रीति पिआरु ॥
Rām nām jin parīṯ pi▫ār.
Those who love the Beloved Name of the Lord
|
ਆਪਿ ਉਧਰੇ ਸਭਿ ਕੁਲ ਉਧਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
आपि उधरे सभि कुल उधारणहारु ॥२॥
Āp uḏẖre sabẖ kul uḏẖāraṇhār. ||2||
save themselves, and save all their ancestors. ||2||
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਜਮ ਪੁਰਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
बिनु नावै मनमुख जम पुरि जाहि ॥
Bin nāvai manmukẖ jam pur jāhi.
Without the Name, the self-willed manmukhs go to the City of Death.

ਅਉਖੇ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਹਿ ॥੩॥
अउखे होवहि चोटा खाहि ॥३॥
A▫ukẖe hovėh cẖotā kẖāhi. ||3||
They suffer in pain and endure beatings. ||3||
|
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਦੇਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥
आपे करता देवै सोइ ॥
Āpe karṯā ḏevai so▫e.
When the Creator Himself gives,
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੭॥
नानक नामु परापति होइ ॥४॥७॥
Nānak nām parāpaṯ ho▫e. ||4||7||
O Nanak, then the mortals receive the Naam. ||4||7||

ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਸਨਕਾਦਿਕ ਉਧਾਰੇ ॥
गोविंद प्रीति सनकादिक उधारे ॥
Govinḏ parīṯ sankāḏik uḏẖāre.
Love of the Lord of the Universe saved Sanak and his brother, the sons of Brahma.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
राम नाम सबदि बीचारे ॥१॥
Rām nām sabaḏ bīcẖāre. ||1||
They contemplated the Word of the Shabad, and the Name of the Lord. ||1||
|
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਅਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੁ ॥
हरि जीउ अपणी किरपा धारु ॥
Har jī▫o apṇī kirpā ḏẖār.
O Dear Lord, please shower me with Your Mercy,
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੇ ਲਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
गुरमुखि नामे लगै पिआरु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Gurmukẖ nāme lagai pi▫ār. ||1|| rahā▫o.
that as Gurmukh, I may embrace love for Your Name. ||1||Pause||

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਾਚੀ ਹੋਇ ॥
अंतरि प्रीति भगति साची होइ ॥
Anṯar parīṯ bẖagaṯ sācẖī ho▫e.
Whoever has true loving devotional worship deep within his being
|
ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
पूरै गुरि मेलावा होइ ॥२॥
Pūrai gur melāvā ho▫e. ||2||
meets the Lord, through the Perfect Guru. ||2||
|
ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
निज घरि वसै सहजि सुभाइ ॥
Nij gẖar vasai sahj subẖā▫e.
He naturally, intuitively dwells within the home of his own inner being.
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੩॥
गुरमुखि नामु वसै मनि आइ ॥३॥
Gurmukẖ nām vasai man ā▫e. ||3||
The Naam abides within the mind of the Gurmukh. ||3||
|
ਆਪੇ ਵੇਖੈ ਵੇਖਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
आपे वेखै वेखणहारु ॥
Āpe vekẖai vekẖaṇhār.
The Lord, the Seer, Himself sees.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਖਹੁ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੪॥੮॥
नानक नामु रखहु उर धारि ॥४॥८॥
Nānak nām rakẖahu ur ḏẖār. ||4||8||
O Nanak, enshrine the Naam within your heart. ||4||8||

In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, enshrine the Lord's Name within your heart.

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਮਾਥੈ ਪਾਵੈ ਛਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
बिनु नावै माथै पावै छारु ॥१॥
Bin nāvai māthai pāvai cẖẖār. ||1||
Without the Name, ashes will be blown in your face. ||1||
|
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੁਲਭੁ ਹੈ ਭਾਈ ॥
राम नामु दुलभु है भाई ॥
Rām nām ḏulabẖ hai bẖā▫ī.
The Lord's Name is so difficult to obtain, O Siblings of Destiny.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
गुर परसादि वसै मनि आई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Gur parsāḏ vasai man ā▫ī. ||1|| rahā▫o.
By Guru's Grace, it comes to dwell in the mind. ||1||Pause||
|
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਨ ਭਾਲਹਿ ਸੋਇ ॥
राम नामु जन भालहि सोइ ॥
Rām nām jan bẖālėh so▫e.
That humble being who seeks the Lord's Name,
|
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
पूरे गुर ते प्रापति होइ ॥२॥
Pūre gur ṯe parāpaṯ ho▫e. ||2||
receives it from the Perfect Guru. ||2||
|
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨਹਿ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
हरि का भाणा मंनहि से जन परवाणु ॥
Har kā bẖāṇā manėh se jan parvāṇ.
Those humble beings who accept the Will of the Lord, are approved and accepted.
|
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਾਮ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥੩॥
गुर कै सबदि नाम नीसाणु ॥३॥
Gur kai sabaḏ nām nīsāṇ. ||3||
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they bear the insignia of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||3||
|
ਸੋ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਜੋ ਕਲ ਰਹਿਆ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
सो सेवहु जो कल रहिआ धारि ॥
So sevhu jo kal rahi▫ā ḏẖār.
So serve the One, whose power supports the Universe.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥੪॥੯॥
नानक गुरमुखि नामु पिआरि ॥४॥९॥
Nānak gurmukẖ nām pi▫ār. ||4||9||
O Nanak, the Gurmukh loves the Naam. ||4||9||

ਕਲਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਬਹੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥

Kaljug mėh baho karam kamāhi.
In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, many rituals are performed.
|
ਨਾ ਰੁਤਿ ਨ ਕਰਮ ਥਾਇ ਪਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
ना रुति न करम थाइ पाहि ॥१॥
Nā ruṯ na karam thā▫e pāhi. ||1||
But it is not the time for them, and so they are of no use. ||1||
|
ਕਲਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
कलजुग महि राम नामु है सारु ॥
Kaljug mėh rām nām hai sār.
In Kali Yuga, the Lord's Name is the most sublime.
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਲਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
गुरमुखि साचा लगै पिआरु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Gurmukẖ sācẖā lagai pi▫ār. ||1|| rahā▫o.
As Gurmukh, be lovingly attached to Truth. ||1||Pause||
|
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਖੋਜਿ ਘਰੈ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
तनु मनु खोजि घरै महि पाइआ ॥
Ŧan man kẖoj gẖarai mėh pā▫i▫ā.
Searching my body and mind, I found Him within the home of my own heart.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
गुरमुखि राम नामि चितु लाइआ ॥२॥
Gurmukẖ rām nām cẖiṯ lā▫i▫ā. ||2||
The Gurmukh centers his consciousness on the Lord's Name. ||2||
