ਨਾਨਕ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਰਾਵੈ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਵਰੁ ਥਿਰੁ ਸੋਹਾਗੋ ॥੧੭॥੧॥
नानक अहिनिसि रावै प्रीतमु हरि वरु थिरु सोहागो ॥१७॥१॥
Nānak ahinis rāvai parīṯam har var thir sohāgo. ||17||1||
O Nanak, day and night, my Beloved enjoys me; with the Lord as my Husband, my Marriage is Eternal. ||17||1||

ਪਹਿਲੈ ਪਹਰੈ ਨੈਣ ਸਲੋਨੜੀਏ ਰੈਣਿ ਅੰਧਿਆਰੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
पहिलै पहरै नैण सलोनड़ीए रैणि अंधिआरी राम ॥
Pahilai pahrai naiṇ salonṛī▫e raiṇ anḏẖi▫ārī rām.
In the first watch of the dark night, O bride of splendored eyes,

ਵਖਰੁ ਰਾਖੁ ਮੁਈਏ ਆਵੈ ਵਾਰੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
वखरु राखु मुईए आवै वारी राम ॥
vakẖar rākẖ mu▫ī▫e āvai vārī rām.
protect your riches; your turn is coming soon.

ਵਾਰੀ ਆਵੈ ਕਵਣੁ ਜਗਾਵੈ ਸੂਤੀ ਜਮ ਰਸੁ ਚੂਸਏ ॥
वारी आवै कवणु जगावै सूती जम रसु चूसए ॥
vārī āvai kavaṇ jagāvai sūṯī jam ras cẖūs▫e.
When your turn comes, who will wake you? While you sleep, your juice shall be sucked out by the Messenger of Death.

ਰੈਣਿ ਅੰਧੇਰੀ ਕਿਆ ਪਤਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਚੋਰੁ ਪੜੈ ਘਰੁ ਮੂਸਏ ॥
रैणि अंधेरी किआ पति तेरी चोरु पड़ै घरु मूसए ॥
Raiṇ anḏẖerī ki▫ā paṯ ṯerī cẖor paṛai gẖar mūs▫e.
The night is so dark; what will become of your honor? The thieves will break into your home and rob you.

ਰਾਖਣਹਾਰਾ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰਾ ਸੁਣਿ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਮੇਰੀਆ ॥
राखणहारा अगम अपारा सुणि बेनंती मेरीआ ॥
Rākẖaṇhārā agam apārā suṇ benanṯī merī▫ā.
O Saviour Lord, Inaccessible and Infinite, please hear my prayer.

ਨਾਨਕ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਕਬਹਿ ਨ ਚੇਤੈ ਕਿਆ ਸੂਝੈ ਰੈਣਿ ਅੰਧੇਰੀਆ ॥੧॥
नानक मूरखु कबहि न चेतै किआ सूझै रैणि अंधेरीआ ॥१॥
Nānak mūrakẖ kabėh na cẖeṯai ki▫ā sūjẖai raiṇ anḏẖerī▫ā. ||1||
O Nanak, the fool never remembers Him; what can he see in the dark of night? ||1||

ਦੂਜਾ ਪਹਰੁ ਭਇਆ ਜਾਗੁ ਅਚੇਤੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
दूजा पहरु भइआ जागु अचेती राम ॥
Ḏūjā pahar bẖa▫i▫ā jāg acẖeṯī rām.
The second watch has begun; wake up, you unconscious being!

ਵਖਰੁ ਰਾਖੁ ਮੁਈਏ ਖਾਜੈ ਖੇਤੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
वखरु राखु मुईए खाजै खेती राम ॥
vakẖar rākẖ mu▫ī▫e kẖājai kẖeṯī rām.
Protect your riches, O mortal; your farm is being eaten.

ਰਾਖਹੁ ਖੇਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਹੇਤੀ ਜਾਗਤ ਚੋਰੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
राखहु खेती हरि गुर हेती जागत चोरु न लागै ॥
Rākẖo kẖeṯī har gur heṯī jāgaṯ cẖor na lāgai.
Protect your crops, and love the Lord, the Guru. Stay awake and aware, and the thieves shall not rob you.

ਜਮ ਮਗਿ ਨ ਜਾਵਹੁ ਨਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਜਮ ਕਾ ਡਰੁ ਭਉ ਭਾਗੈ ॥
जम मगि न जावहु ना दुखु पावहु जम का डरु भउ भागै ॥
Jam mag na jāvhu nā ḏukẖ pāvhu jam kā dar bẖa▫o bẖāgai.
You shall not have to go on the path of Death, and you shall not suffer in pain; your fear and terror of death shall run away.

ਰਵਿ ਸਸਿ ਦੀਪਕ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਧਿਆਵਏ ॥
रवि ससि दीपक गुरमति दुआरै मनि साचा मुखि धिआवए ॥
Rav sas ḏīpak gurmaṯ ḏu▫ārai man sācẖā mukẖ ḏẖi▫āv▫e.
The lamps of the sun and the moon are lit by the Guru's Teachings, through His Door, meditating on the True Lord, in the mind and with the mouth.

ਨਾਨਕ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਅਜਹੁ ਨ ਚੇਤੈ ਕਿਵ ਦੂਜੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਏ ॥੨॥
नानक मूरखु अजहु न चेतै किव दूजै सुखु पावए ॥२॥
Nānak mūrakẖ ajahu na cẖeṯai kiv ḏūjai sukẖ pāv▫e. ||2||
O Nanak, the fool still does not remember the Lord. How can he find peace in duality? ||2||

ਤੀਜਾ ਪਹਰੁ ਭਇਆ ਨੀਦ ਵਿਆਪੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
तीजा पहरु भइआ नीद विआपी राम ॥
Ŧījā pahar bẖa▫i▫ā nīḏ vi▫āpī rām.
The third watch has begun, and sleep has set in.

ਮਾਇਆ ਸੁਤ ਦਾਰਾ ਦੂਖਿ ਸੰਤਾਪੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
माइआ सुत दारा दूखि संतापी राम ॥
Mā▫i▫ā suṯ ḏārā ḏūkẖ sanṯāpī rām.
The mortal suffers in pain, from attachment to Maya, children and spouse.

ਮਾਇਆ ਸੁਤ ਦਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਚੋਗ ਚੁਗੈ ਨਿਤ ਫਾਸੈ ॥
माइआ सुत दारा जगत पिआरा चोग चुगै नित फासै ॥
Mā▫i▫ā suṯ ḏārā jagaṯ pi▫ārā cẖog cẖugai niṯ fāsai.
Maya, his children, his wife and the world are so dear to him; he bites the bait, and is caught.

ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵੈ ਤਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਗ੍ਰਾਸੈ ॥
नामु धिआवै ता सुखु पावै गुरमति कालु न ग्रासै ॥
Nām ḏẖi▫āvai ṯā sukẖ pāvai gurmaṯ kāl na garāsai.
Meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, he shall find peace; following the Guru's Teachings, he shall not be seized by death.

ਜੰਮਣੁ ਮਰਣੁ ਕਾਲੁ ਨਹੀ ਛੋਡੈ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸੰਤਾਪੀ ॥
जमणु मरणु कालु नही छोडै विणु नावै संतापी ॥
Jamaṇ maraṇ kāl nahī cẖẖodai viṇ nāvai sanṯāpī.
He cannot escape from birth, dying and death; without the Name, he suffers.

ਨਾਨਕ ਤੀਜੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਬਿਧਿ ਲੋਕਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਵਿਆਪੀ ॥੩॥
नानक तीजै त्रिबिधि लोका माइआ मोहि विआपी ॥३॥
Nānak ṯījai ṯaribaḏẖ lokā mā▫i▫ā mohi vi▫āpī. ||3||
O Nanak, in the third watch of the three-phased Maya, the world is engrossed in attachment to Maya. ||3||
|
ਚਉਥਾ ਪਹਰੁ ਭਇਆ ਦਉਤੁ ਬਿਹਾਗੈ ਰਾਮ ॥
चउथा पहरु भइआ दउतु बिहागै राम ॥
Cẖa▫uthā pahar bẖa▫i▫ā ḏa▫uṯ bihāgai rām.
The fourth watch has begun, and the day is about to dawn.

ਤਿਨ ਘਰੁ ਰਾਖਿਅੜਾ ਜੋੁ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਗੈ ਰਾਮ ॥
तिन घरु राखिअड़ा जो अनदिनु जागै राम ॥
Ŧin gẖar rākẖi▫aṛā jo an▫ḏin jāgai rām.
Those who remain awake and aware, night and day, preserve and protect their homes.
|
ਗੁਰ ਪੂਛਿ ਜਾਗੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਾਗੇ ਤਿਨਾ ਰੈਣਿ ਸੁਹੇਲੀਆ ॥
गुर पूछि जागे नामि लागे तिना रैणि सुहेलीआ ॥
Gur pūcẖẖ jāge nām lāge ṯinā raiṇ suhelī▫ā.
The night is pleasant and peaceful, for those who remain awake; following the Guru's advice, they focus on the Naam.

ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਜਨਮਿ ਨ ਆਵਹਿ ਤਿਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਬੇਲੀਆ ॥
गुर सबदु कमावहि जनमि न आवहि तिना हरि प्रभु बेलीआ ॥
Gur sabaḏ kamāvėh janam na āvahi ṯinā har parabẖ belī▫ā.
Those who practice the Word of the Guru's Shabad are not reincarnated again; the Lord God is their Best Friend.

ਕਰ ਕੰਪਿ ਚਰਣ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਕੰਪੈ ਨੈਣ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਤਨੁ ਭਸਮ ਸੇ ॥
कर क्मपि चरण सरीरु क्मपै नैण अंधुले तनु भसम से ॥
Kar kaʼnp cẖaraṇ sarīr kampai naiṇ anḏẖule ṯan bẖasam se.
The hands shake, the feet and body totter, the vision goes dark, and the body turns to dust.

ਨਾਨਕ ਦੁਖੀਆ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੇ ॥੪॥
नानक दुखीआ जुग चारे बिनु नाम हरि के मनि वसे ॥४॥
Nānak ḏukẖī▫ā jug cẖāre bin nām har ke man vase. ||4||
O Nanak, people are miserable throughout the four ages, if the Name of the Lord does not abide in the mind. ||4||

ਖੂਲੀ ਗੰਠਿ ਉਠੋ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਆਇਆ ਰਾਮ ॥
खूली गंठि उठो लिखिआ आइआ राम ॥
Kẖūlī ganṯẖ uṯẖo likẖi▫ā ā▫i▫ā rām.
The knot has been untied; rise up - the order has come!

ਰਸ ਕਸ ਸੁਖ ਠਾਕੇ ਬੰਧਿ ਚਲਾਇਆ ਰਾਮ ॥
रस कस सुख ठाके बंधि चलाइआ राम ॥
Ras kas sukẖ ṯẖāke banḏẖ cẖalā▫i▫ā rām.
Pleasures and comforts are gone; like a prisoner, you are driven on.
|
ਬੰਧਿ ਚਲਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਇਆ ਨਾ ਦੀਸੈ ਨਾ ਸੁਣੀਐ ॥
बंधि चलाइआ जा प्रभ भाइआ ना दीसै ना सुणीऐ ॥
Banḏẖ cẖalā▫i▫ā jā parabẖ bẖā▫i▫ā nā ḏīsai nā suṇī▫ai.
You shall be bound and gagged, when it pleases God; you will not see or hear it coming.

ਆਪਣ ਵਾਰੀ ਸਭਸੈ ਆਵੈ ਪਕੀ ਖੇਤੀ ਲੁਣੀਐ ॥
आपण वारी सभसै आवै पकी खेती लुणीऐ ॥
Āpaṇ vārī sabẖsai āvai pakī kẖeṯī luṇī▫ai.
Everyone will have their turn; the crop ripens, and then it is cut down.

ਘੜੀ ਚਸੇ ਕਾ ਲੇਖਾ ਲੀਜੈ ਬੁਰਾ ਭਲਾ ਸਹੁ ਜੀਆ ॥
घड़ी चसे का लेखा लीजै बुरा भला सहु जीआ ॥
Gẖaṛī cẖase kā lekẖā lījai burā bẖalā saho jī▫ā.
The account is kept for every second, every instant; the soul suffers for the bad and the good.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਤਿਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕਾਰਣੁ ਕੀਆ ॥੫॥੨॥
नानक सुरि नर सबदि मिलाए तिनि प्रभि कारणु कीआ ॥५॥२॥
Nānak sur nar sabaḏ milā▫e ṯin parabẖ kāraṇ kī▫ā. ||5||2||
O Nanak, the angelic beings are united with the Word of the Shabad; this is the way God made it. ||5||2||

ਤਾਰਾ ਚੜਿਆ ਲੰਮਾ ਕਿਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿਆ ਰਾਮ ॥
तारा चड़िआ लमा किउ नदरि निहालिआ राम ॥
Ŧārā cẖaṛi▫ā lammā ki▫o naḏar nihāli▫ā rām.
The meteor shoots across the sky. How can it be seen with the eyes?

ਸੇਵਕ ਪੂਰ ਕਰੰਮਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਦਿਖਾਲਿਆ ਰਾਮ ॥
सेवक पूर करमा सतिगुरि सबदि दिखालिआ राम ॥
Sevak pūr karammā saṯgur sabaḏ ḏikẖāli▫ā rām.
The True Guru reveals the Word of the Shabad to His servant who has such perfect karma.

ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਦਿਖਾਲਿਆ ਸਚੁ ਸਮਾਲਿਆ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਬੀਚਾਰਿਆ ॥
गुर सबदि दिखालिआ सचु समालिआ अहिनिसि देखि बीचारिआ ॥
Gur sabaḏ ḏikẖāli▫ā sacẖ samāli▫ā ahinis ḏekẖ bīcẖāri▫ā.
The Guru reveals the Shabad; dwelling on the True Lord, day and night, he beholds and reflects on God.

ਧਾਵਤ ਪੰਚ ਰਹੇ ਘਰੁ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਬਿਖੁ ਮਾਰਿਆ ॥
धावत पंच रहे घरु जाणिआ कामु क्रोधु बिखु मारिआ ॥
Ḏẖāvaṯ pancẖ rahe gẖar jāṇi▫ā kām kroḏẖ bikẖ māri▫ā.
The five restless desires are restrained, and he knows the home of his own heart. He conquers sexual desire, anger and corruption.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਭਈ ਗੁਰ ਸਾਖੀ ਚੀਨੇ ਰਾਮ ਕਰੰਮਾ ॥
अंतरि जोति भई गुर साखी चीने राम करमा ॥
Anṯar joṯ bẖa▫ī gur sākẖī cẖīne rām karammā.
His inner being is illuminated, by the Guru's Teachings; He beholds the Lord's play of karma.
