Fifth Mehl:
|
ਸੁਖ ਸਮੂਹਾ ਭੋਗ ਭੂਮਿ ਸਬਾਈ ਕੋ ਧਣੀ ॥
Sukẖ samūhā bẖog bẖūm sabā▫ī ko ḏẖaṇī.
Even if one were to enjoy all pleasures, and be master of the entire earth,
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਭੋ ਰੋਗੁ ਮਿਰਤਕ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹੂਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
Nānak habẖo rog mirṯak nām vihūṇi▫ā. ||2||
O Nanak, all of that is just a disease. Without the Naam, he is dead. ||2||

Fifth Mehl:

ਹਿਕਸ ਕੂੰ ਤੂ ਆਹਿ ਪਛਾਣੂ ਭੀ ਹਿਕੁ ਕਰਿ ॥
Hikas kūʼn ṯū āhi pacẖẖāṇū bẖī hik kar.
Yearn for the One Lord, and make Him your friend.

ਨਾਨਕ ਆਸੜੀ ਨਿਬਾਹਿ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਪਰਥਾਈ ਲਜੀਵਦੋ ॥੩॥
Nānak āsṛī nibāhi mānukẖ parthā▫ī lajīvḏo. ||3||
O Nanak, He alone fulfills your hopes; you should feel embarrassed, visiting other places. ||3||

ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਏਕੁ ਨਰਾਇਣੋ ਹਰਿ ਅਗਮ ਅਗਾਧਾ ॥
Nihcẖal ek nārā▫iṇo har agam agāḏẖā.
The One and only Lord is eternal, imperishable, inaccessible and incomprehensible.

ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਧਾ ॥
Nihcẖal nām niḏẖān hai jis simraṯ har lāḏẖā.
The treasure of the Naam is eternal and imperishable. Meditating in remembrance on Him, the Lord is attained.

ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਾਵਾਧਾ ॥
Nihcẖal kīrṯan guṇ gobinḏ gurmukẖ gāvāḏẖā.
The Kirtan of His Praises is eternal and imperishable; the Gurmukh sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe.

ਸਚੁ ਧਰਮੁ ਤਪੁ ਨਿਹਚਲੋ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਅਰਾਧਾ ॥
Sacẖ ḏẖaram ṯap nihcẖalo ḏin rain arāḏẖā.
Truth, righteousness, Dharma and intense meditation are eternal and imperishable. Day and night, worship the Lord in adoration.

ਦਇਆ ਧਰਮੁ ਤਪੁ ਨਿਹਚਲੋ ਜਿਸੁ ਕਰਮਿ ਲਿਖਾਧਾ ॥
Ḏa▫i▫ā ḏẖaram ṯap nihcẖalo jis karam likẖāḏẖā.
Compassion, righteousness, Dharma and intense meditation are eternal and imperishable; they alone obtain these, who have such pre-ordained destiny.

ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲੇਖੁ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੋ ਟਲੈ ਨ ਟਲਾਧਾ ॥
Nihcẖal masṯak lekẖ likẖi▫ā so talai na talāḏẖā.
The inscription inscribed upon one's forehead is eternal and imperishable; it cannot be avoided by avoidance.

ਨਿਹਚਲ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਾਧ ਜਨ ਬਚਨ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਾਧਾ ॥
Nihcẖal sangaṯ sāḏẖ jan bacẖan nihcẖal gur sāḏẖā.
The Congregation, the Company of the Holy, and the word of the humble, are eternal and imperishable. The Holy Guru is eternal and imperishable.

ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਾ ॥੧੯॥
Jin ka▫o pūrab likẖi▫ā ṯin saḏā saḏā ārāḏẖā. ||19||
Those who have such pre-ordained destiny worship and adore the Lord, forever and ever. ||19||

ਸਲੋਕ ਡਖਣੇ ਮਃ ੫ ॥
Salok dakẖ▫ṇe mėhlā 5.
Shalok, Dakhanay, Fifth Mehl:

ਜੋ ਡੁਬੰਦੋ ਆਪਿ ਸੋ ਤਰਾਏ ਕਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਖੇ ॥
Jo dubanḏo āp so ṯarā▫e kinĥ kẖe.
One who himself has drowned - how can he carry anyone else across?

ਤਾਰੇਦੜੋ ਭੀ ਤਾਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਿਰ ਸਿਉ ਰਤਿਆ ॥੧॥
Ŧāreḏaṛo bẖī ṯār Nānak pir si▫o raṯi▫ā. ||1||
One who is imbued with the Love of the Husband Lord - O Nanak, he himself is saved, and he saves others as well. ||1||

Fifth Mehl:

ਜਿਥੈ ਕੋਇ ਕਥੰਨਿ ਨਾਉ ਸੁਣੰਦੋ ਮਾ ਪਿਰੀ ॥
Jithai ko▫e kathann nā▫o suṇanḏo mā pirī.
Wherever someone speaks and hears the Name of my Beloved Lord,

ਮੂੰ ਜੁਲਾਊਂ ਤਥਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਿਰੀ ਪਸੰਦੋ ਹਰਿਓ ਥੀਓਸਿ ॥੨॥
Mūʼn julā▫ūʼn ṯath Nānak pirī pasanḏo hari▫o thī▫os. ||2||
that is where I go, O Nanak, to see Him, and blossom forth in bliss. ||2||

ਮੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਹਿ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕਲਤ੍ਰ ਸਨੇਹ ॥
Merī merī ki▫ā karahi puṯar kalṯar saneh.
You are in love with your children and your wife; why do you keep calling them your own?

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹੂਣੀਆ ਨਿਮੁਣੀਆਦੀ ਦੇਹ ॥੩॥
Nānak nām vihūṇī▫ā nimuṇī▫āḏī ḏeh. ||3||
O Nanak, without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the human body has no foundation. ||3||

ਨੈਨੀ ਦੇਖਉ ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸਨੋ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਮਥਾ ॥
Nainī ḏekẖ▫a▫u gur ḏarsano gur cẖarṇī mathā.
With my eyes, I gaze upon the Blessed Vision of the Guru's Darshan; I touch my forehead to the Guru's feet.

ਪੈਰੀ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਗੁਰ ਚਲਦਾ ਪਖਾ ਫੇਰੀ ਹਥਾ ॥
Pairī mārag gur cẖalḏā pakẖā ferī hathā.
With my feet I walk on the Guru's Path; with my hands, I wave the fan over Him.

ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਧਿਆਇਦਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਜਪੰਥਾ ॥
Akāl mūraṯ riḏai ḏẖi▫ā▫iḏā ḏin rain japanthā.
I meditate on Akaal Moorat, the undying form, within my heart; day and night, I meditate on Him.

ਮੈ ਛਡਿਆ ਸਗਲ ਅਪਾਇਣੋ ਭਰਵਾਸੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਮਰਥਾ ॥
Mai cẖẖadi▫ā sagal apā▫iṇo bẖarvāsai gur samrathā.
I have given up all egoism, and have placed my faith in the all-powerful Guru.

ਗੁਰਿ ਬਖਸਿਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਸਭੋ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਥਾ ॥
Gur bakẖsi▫ā nām niḏẖān sabẖo ḏukẖ lathā.
The Guru has blessed me with the treasure of the Naam; I am rid of all sufferings.

ਭੋਗਹੁ ਭੁੰਚਹੁ ਭਾਈਹੋ ਪਲੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਗਥਾ ॥
Bẖogahu bẖuncẖahu bẖā▫īho palai nām agthā.
Eat and enjoy the Naam, the Name of the indescribable Lord, O Siblings of Destiny.

ਨਾਮੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ਦਿੜੁ ਸਦਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਕਥਾ ॥
Nām ḏān isnān ḏiṛ saḏā karahu gur kathā.
Confirm your faith in the Naam, charity and self-purification; chant the Guru's sermon forever.

ਸਹਜੁ ਭਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਮ ਕਾ ਭਉ ਲਥਾ ॥੨੦॥
Sahj bẖa▫i▫ā parabẖ pā▫i▫ā jam kā bẖa▫o lathā. ||20||
Blessed with intuitive poise, I have found God; I am rid of the fear of the Messenger of Death. ||20||

ਸਲੋਕ ਡਖਣੇ ਮਃ ੫ ॥
Salok dakẖ▫ṇe mėhlā 5.
Shalok, Dakhanay, Fifth Mehl:

ਲਗੜੀਆ ਪਿਰੀਅੰਨਿ ਪੇਖੰਦੀਆ ਨਾ ਤਿਪੀਆ ॥
Lagṛī▫ā pirī▫ann pekẖanḏī▫ā nā ṯipī▫ā.
I am centered and focused on my Beloved, but I am not satisfied, even by seeing Him.

ਹਭ ਮਝਾਹੂ ਸੋ ਧਣੀ ਬਿਆ ਨ ਡਿਠੋ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥
Habẖ majẖāhū so ḏẖaṇī bi▫ā na diṯẖo ko▫e. ||1||
The Lord and Master is within all; I do not see any other. ||1||

ਕਥੜੀਆ ਸੰਤਾਹ ਤੇ ਸੁਖਾਊ ਪੰਧੀਆ ॥
Kathṛī▫ā sanṯāh ṯe sukẖā▫ū panḏẖī▫ā.
The sayings of the Saints are the paths of peace.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਲਧੜੀਆ ਤਿੰਨਾਹ ਜਿਨਾ ਭਾਗੁ ਮਥਾਹੜੈ ॥੨॥
Nānak laḏẖ▫ṛī▫ā ṯinnāh jinā bẖāg mathāhaṛai. ||2||
O Nanak, they alone obtain them, upon whose foreheads such destiny is written. ||2||

ਡੂੰਗਰਿ ਜਲਾ ਥਲਾ ਭੂਮਿ ਬਨਾ ਫਲ ਕੰਦਰਾ ॥
Dūngar jalā thalā bẖūm banā fal kanḏrā.
He is totally permeating the mountains, oceans, deserts, lands, forests, orchards, caves,

ਪਾਤਾਲਾ ਆਕਾਸ ਪੂਰਨੁ ਹਭ ਘਟਾ ॥
Pāṯālā ākās pūran habẖ gẖatā.
the nether regions of the underworld, the Akaashic ethers of the skies, and all hearts.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਪੇਖਿ ਜੀਓ ਇਕਤੁ ਸੂਤਿ ਪਰੋਤੀਆ ॥੩॥
Nānak pekẖ jī▫o ikaṯ sūṯ paroṯī▫ā. ||3||
Nanak sees that they are all strung on the same thread. ||3||

ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਮਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਪਿਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਕ ॥
Har jī māṯā har jī piṯā har jī▫o parṯipālak.
The Dear Lord is my mother, the Dear Lord is my father; the Dear Lord cherishes and nurtures me.

ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਸਾਰ ਕਰੇ ਹਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਬਾਲਕ ॥
Har jī merī sār kare ham har ke bālak.
The Dear Lord takes care of me; I am the child of the Lord.
|
ਸਹਜੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਖਿਲਾਇਦਾ ਨਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਆਲਕ ॥
Sėhje sahj kẖilā▫iḏā nahī karḏā ālak.
Slowly and steadily, He feeds me; He never fails.
|
ਅਉਗਣੁ ਕੋ ਨ ਚਿਤਾਰਦਾ ਗਲ ਸੇਤੀ ਲਾਇਕ ॥
A▫ugaṇ ko na cẖiṯārḏā gal seṯī lā▫ik.
He does not remind me of my faults; He hugs me close in His embrace.

ਮੁਹਿ ਮੰਗਾਂ ਸੋਈ ਦੇਵਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਇਕ ॥
Muhi mangāʼn so▫ī ḏevḏā har piṯā sukẖ▫ḏā▫ik.
Whatever I ask for, He give me; the Lord is my peace-giving father.
